Pulled pork sandwich and creamed corn
    Lauren V.

Stopped by here for a quick lunch by a family members recommendation. There was no line, and the staff were friendly and helpful when answering our questions about the menu. I got a pulled pork sandwich and cream corn, the pulled pork was very tender, though it wasn't the *best* I've had in the world. Their spicy barbecue sauce Definitely kicked it up a notch though. And with the portion size I got it was definitely worth the value, as the sandwich was huge. The cream corn was great! My husband has celiac and got a plain slice of brisket and a slice of pork belly with a side of cream corn (all naturally gluten free). According to him, the pork belly was the best he's ever had and it was mind blowing!

So glad they have this new location, place is very chill, great music and full bar! Everything here is delicious but my favorite by far is the Wagyu Picahna with Steak Frites! It's only available on certain days until sold out, so check their social media. Service is great, staff makes excellent recommendations! Highly recommend!

While we came in looking for a good juicy burger I'm pretty sure the star of the show here is their Texas BBQ -which I'm definitely coming back to try. The juicy and soft brisket in their grilled cheese gave me an idea of what we're workin with here. I've heard good things about their smoked gouda mac n' cheese, brisket by the pound, and pork tri-tips. Outside of their traditional BBQ they serve sandwiches, loaded nachos, pork tacos (pulled or pastor), and more! We love the variety this place is definitely worth checking out -keep an eye out for their Happy Hour (TH/Fri 2-6pm). Plenty of parking and indoor+patio seating! Came in on a Fri late afternoon 4pmish, no line -we ordered and our food came out within the next 10-15 minutes. service was nice and quick, and the food was delicious. I definitely see this being the big BBQ spot this summer!

I came here to get a quick lunch. I wanted the beans made with tallow and there was a 15 minute wait on that. So, I went straight carnivore. Forget the carbs. I had a 1/3 pound fatty brisket. $39,99? What?! More expensive than Burnt Bean?! It was really good as one would expect.. The young man asked if I wanted the "burnt ends", and it's usually not my thing. I'm glad I said yes because he was gonna toss them., It was delicious. I also had a chicken leg and thigh to keep the cost down. This is where I wasn't as impressed, as it was sub par to what I cook on my pit boss at home. I feel like the chicken was rushed and needed more time on the pit. It was seasoned ok. I had a cup of water to wash it down. Super expensive for what little I got.

We've now hit Moreno's BBQ back-to-back -- Saturday around 12:20pm and Sunday at 9:30am -- both times for pickup with zero line. Fast casual setup with indoor and outdoor seating, super easy in-and-out spot, at least on our trip. We had our first bite of their pork belly at Smoke & Fire Festival (which we remember it being stellar) and then our second bite at Burger Fest where we tried their 1/2lb burger bite. (Which we remember it being thick and hearty, but lacking the smoke flavor and a pretty course grind.) So we wanted to come back and really dive into the BBQ side of things since we heard great things. Service was a little inconsistent. Saturday they forgot our sauce, but the cashier ran it out to us (appreciated that hustle). Sunday, different cashier, initially missed 1/2 lb of barbacoa, tortillas, and sauce. We caught the meat and tortillas before leaving, but didn't realize until we got home that the sauce was still missing. Definitely check your order before heading out -- unfortunately it seemed to be a theme for both of our visits. Now for the meat: * Moist Brisket - Texturally on point. Tender, pull-apart, juicy. But the smoke profile was also lighter than expected. We were hoping for a deeper smoke penetration. * Turkey - Moist with solid seasoning. Would get again. * Smoked Akaushi Barbacoa - Super tender, but noticeably salty. Once we added beans and avocado which we had at home, it balanced out beautifully. On its own, it needed that contrast in our opinion. * Jalapeño Sausage - Great snap, nice spice, and got some smoke. * Tallow Tortillas - Good texture, but again we were hoping for more smoky character. The absolute standout? Randomly, the Spicy BBQ Sauce. This is not your typical sweet, sticky sauce. It's thick, bold, almost mole like -- feels like a chile-forward sauce made from dried peppers with a real kick. It's unique, complex, and honestly one of the more impressive sauces we've had at a BBQ spot. They should bottle and sell it immediately if they don't. We were genuinely bummed when it was left out Sunday. And then there's the El Chingón Breakfast Taco -- easily the most IMPRESSIVE bite we had across both visits. MASSIVE, flavorful, and just works as a whole. That alone is worth a return trip and we can understand why it's $13! Overall, texture and cook for everything was great, but the smoke depth didn't quite hit like you'd expect from Texas BBQ. That said, we'd absolutely go back for the breakfast taco and that standout spicy sauce. Like WOW, those are addicting!

    Brisket, Egg & Potato Taco

Breakfast tacos are a must on any trip to Austin, Texas. On this trip I checked out Moreno Barbecue located in Southpark Meadows. They do breakfast on Sundays only from my understanding and it is worth stopping in. I ordered a brisket, egg and cheese taco and added potatoes, along with a chorizo and egg taco, both on fresh homemade flour tortillas. These were exceptional and really hit the spot. I also ordered their El Chingon Breakfast Burrito, a flour shell loaded with tender brisket, bacon, eggs, papas, refried beans and cheese, then topped with queso, tomatillo salsa and pico de gallo. This was out of bounds tasty and well worth getting. Overall the meal was exactly what I wanted. Tex Mex and BBQ for breakfast is always a winner. I will be back to check out Moreno's for more of their great BBQ on a future trip to ATX.

Moreno Barbecue's new location (former GM site). Nicely updated. It seems larger. Grab a beer and get in line to order at the counter or sit at the bar to order directly off a smaller menu. Plenty of seating inside and on the covered patio. I judge TX BBQ joints on brisket. This brisket is good. Nice bark, smoke ring, and pull. It could be a little "beefier." Not the best I've ever had but certainly not the worst. Pulled pork and sausage are both good. Like the charro beans and Gouda Mac sides. I'll try the chicken and turkey next time.

Chopped Beef Sandwich and a frito pie.
    Marcus R.

I visited this place with my family today. I usually come here for lunch from to time to time. The food here is delicious. You cannot go wrong at all from any thing you pick. My to order usually is a frito Pie fully dressed and chopped beef sandwich with everything on it. My only complaint about my Chopped bef sandwich is I wished their BBQ sauce was already mixed in it.

Brisket sandwich, two meat plate (brisket, ribs, charro beans, potato salad), brisket taco, bean and cheese taco, coleslaw
    Estefanía D.

It had been a while since my last visit to Moreno Barbecue (back when they were still on Menchaca before rebranding that location to Moreno Burger) so I was excited to finally return. Overall, the food was great. I got the brisket taco, bean & cheese taco, and coleslaw, which ended up being plenty of food for me. Next time I'll probably stick to just one brisket taco. The coleslaw was light and refreshing, which was a nice contrast to the richness of the meat and beans. The flour tortillas were also delicious. I added avocado to my brisket taco which was $2 extra. I wish they added more than three slivers to better balance it out. Next time I'll probably just order guacamole to add on myself. The meat itself was the star: flavorful and well-seasoned, and our whole group agreed on that. My dad ordered the brisket sandwich, which was a bit smaller than he expected so I gave him some of my food. My mom enjoyed the charro beans! Parking and seating are plentiful, which is a plus.

    Half chicken & sides
    Allison S.

Everything we ordered was amazing. We had the chicken, smoked burger, mac n cheese, green beans and coleslaw. Unfortunately we took pork ribs home (they had a $25 take home special) and they were extremely over-seasoned, which took away from the meat itself, and we ended up throwing the rest away.

    Menu Board of Specials

The staff were friendly and pleasant for the most part. The prices are too high for the quality of meat you get. The moist brisket was decent, but had been overcooked to dryness away from the fat. Pork belly was not impressive as it was overcooked and lost flavor. The ribs were fine except there was too much pepper seasoning. The sauce is not true BBQ and you mostly taste the vinegar. They had several TV's on showing different sports with the sound muted.

When I tell you these ribs were a religious experience I am not embellishing. Full disclosure: I do not currently live in the south so I don't consider myself a BBQ connoisseur, but I did spend 4 years in the south and have sampled many BBQ joints in the meantime. Take this review as someone who really enjoys BBQ (and any slow cooked meat for that matter) but who could not list more than 10 BBQ restaurants they have eaten at in the last 5 years. So the beef ribs. Great texture, tender meat but still had a bite to it. Expertly seasoned so they were not wet with sauce but still moist. I would consider 1 beef rib a snack, 2 a small meal. I also tried the chopped brisket (brisket and burnt ends sitting in a soup of BBQ sauce). That was also delicious (and more reasonably priced), but I could have done with slightly less sauce. It really was like a soup and while the sauce was tasty, there was too much of it. I went later in the afternoon (around 2/2:30pm) and got their last two beef ribs so going earlier is better. The chicken was perfectly friend and breaded in my opinion while keeping the white meat tender -- it was still like that even after I put the leftovers in the air fryer the next day. The baked beans were very flavorful and the sweetness complimented the savory chicken well. The cheer on top moment was the fact that the chicken was seasoned with a spicy seasoning so there was a bit of a subtle spicy aftertaste in each bite! I'll definitely be back again! :)

The chicken we had was dry enough that the crust felt like the only source of moisture. Flavor-wise, it never really arrived -- just basic chicken, none of that deep, savory, robust profile you expect from a place that claims world‑famous status. It wasn't offensive, just forgettable, which is almost worse for a fried‑chicken joint. Service was fine -- not warm, not cold, just functional. But being out of sweet tea, a southern staple and practically part of the cultural contract of fried chicken, didn't help the mood. And honestly, even if they'd had it, the chicken wasn't good enough for sweet tea to save the experience. Overall, Gus's felt like a place coasting on reputation rather than execution. Dry chicken, muted flavor, and missing sweet tea make it hard to justify a return visit.

Brisket - This was definitely the best item eaten of the day. It was tender and juicy while adding the BBQ sauce giving that extra bite. The BBQ sauce was great regardless, a little bit of sweet and smoky flavor going on. Pulled Pork - This was another solid meat choice. I did not think it was as tender as the brisket, but it was still enjoyable especially with that BBQ sauce, which was key throughout the meal. Sausage - This was not bad. The snap on this threw me off a little, but it was not too bad. They were large links and had plenty of flavor. Gouda Mac & Cheese with Smoked Bacon - This was actually penne pasta with little pieces of the bacon. I actually preferred this pasta choice here. It really soaked up the cheese sauce. The sauce was not too over powerful and was just right. Beans with Smoked Bacon - These were not too bad. I thought they were a little liquidity, but the added bacon pieces definitely helped. Banana Pudding - This came in individual cups, which was nice. The pudding was thick with a little meringue or whipped cream present and a few wafer cookies on top. It was a satisfying ending to a very good meal. Will I go back? Yes.
