Not too shabby, this places takes after the famous Stubbs who's the pit boss in the olden days. Famous to the bbq sauces they sell all across the country. The BBQ wasn't too bad. I ordered the chicken wings and three pork ribs. Suffice to say that the wings were cooked too far in advance that the wings were shrunken and lost a lot of the flavor. The buffalo sauce was ok not medium to my Buffalo native roots liking... the ribs were a significant upgrade. Enjoyed the meaty slabs nice and pink with a great smoke ring. It came with Cole slaw and onion rings. Again I think they made the rings too far in advance, it was cold and tough. Service was fair. Nothing to write home about I was t expecting anything on my first day back to Austin for a third leg of the business trip. My mind was elsewhere but this is what was memorable. One and done. Stubbs is one of my least favorite venues in Austin. It used to be okay but ever since C3 took over, the security just got Fort Knox level and drinks started to cost $17. They do get some good shows though. This place was horrible food wise! We got sick eating here. Its a BBQ joint but they bake everything and they did not even do that right! The decor was historic, it will not hurt for them to turn this into a bar only and there outdoors is big enough to park Food trucks in. The waiter was absolutely kind and accommodating. I did my history before I went here but disregarded the obvious reviews just to invest in Mr Stubbs dream. I had a lot of great BBQ while in Austin. Unfortunately, this wasn't included among it. Stubb's was a name I recognized because I actually like their BBQ sauce a lot, and buy it at home to adorn all sorts of meats I make myself. This spot was close to my hotel, and on my departure day, I decided to have one last hit of Q. It's a big restaurant, and it appears to also be quite the music venue. When I went, a little on the early side for a Friday dinner, there was not a wait and I was sat immediately. My server was attentive, and got me in, fed, and back out in plenty of time to catch my already delayed flight. I ordered their 3 meat combo plate, which also came with two sides, and added on a piece of cornbread. I chose brisket of course, as well as turkey and sausage. The server recommended the serrano pepper spinach (like a creamed spinach) and onion rings, and I took those recs. The best of the three meats was the turkey. Not a good sign. It was moist and tender, though not particularly smokey. Even so, I enjoyed it more than the brisket and sausage, which I would have guessed the reverse when ordering. The brisket was on the dry side and kind of bland, it did not smack of being freshly carved. The Stubbs BBQ sauce helped me eat some of it... now I see why they are famous for their sauce. I had a couple bites of the sausage and pushed it aside, I didn't enjoy their recipe on that at all. It was cooked seemingly well, but the blend of spices and meat they use wasn't pleasant to me. The sides, the onion rings were very crispy which I like, but again... something in the batter. Maybe even the oil they were cooked in, I did not enjoy as much. The spinach was actually quite enjoyable, maybe even a little rich. I think if it were warmer, if might help milden out some of that. It was really thick. The cornbread wasn't worth the add-on. No sweetness or anything to make it memorable. Vessel for butter. The portion was massive, and I had leftover food, but did not take it... and that would have been the case even if I wasn't headed to the airport. I wouldn't recommend this spot. read more

If you're looking for some Austin BBQ without all the waits of other spots, Stubb's is a solid option Downtown. My friend and I went on a Friday during peak dinner hours and didn't have to wait for a table. Unlike other places, this is a full table service spot. They also have tons of great event spaces - the amphitheater area looked very cool. Our server was so friendly and food all came out very quickly at Stubb's. We had seen Stubb's BBQ sauce in stores prior so were excited to try their eats, and found them to be decent. I was surprised they just had 1 BBQ Sauce offering knowing they have a line, and also it wasn't on every table but had to be asked for. While the flavor of the brisket and pork ribs were tasty, the brisket was too lean and way too dry. I just can't with dry barbeque! The Mac N Cheese was also decent, but not deliciously fantastic, same with the coleslaw. All the food we had was just A-OK without any standout items or bites. It was a weekend during the 'free music' week in January so was PACKED! I mean packed! Only seating available was outside but they did have heaters on. Still chilly, but it's January, so what do you expect. Staff were friendly. Attentive. Order came quickly..... however...... it was already cold. I know we were outside, but we went to eat it straight away and it wasn't hot for my liking. Food. Chicken wings were tasty. Not a fan of the pulled pork as too dry for me. Ribs were good. Sausage was okay. Mac n cheese was too cold to get a yummy bite. Coleslaw, okay. Not mind blowing food but not awful. Good music was playing, however as mentioned too packed for my liking. I thought I would share my experience of a VIP experience here as a regular, everyday person. I didn't receive any information about the VIP ticket so I called and asked if Doors: 7:00pm meant that food would be available before or after. I was told 3 different answers. Fine, I would play it safe by going at 7:30pm. I was the 13th person there. No one was eating. Those working the VIP entrance did not tell me anything as well so I asked the average-looking VIP person how it worked. The stage furthest from the stage is for food and a more relaxed experience. The VIP overlook is more for seeing the artist's facial pores. I couldn't stand the bartender at the back stage as he was crass and didn't want to be there. He couldn't even get me a Rambler on ice with a lime. His replacement was nicer. The food situation is very misleading. For the price of the ticket, I was expecting more than two taco options to be free and for more than ACL Music Water, Nestle, Rambler, and canned soda water to be on the free NA list. I expected too much. VIP is not worth it in my opinion -- vibes are off for sure. read more

Not the Stubbs i used to know. Went for early dinner. Hardly any patrons. I now know why. First tell should have been after I ordered a red river Rita and got it within 20 seconds. Who made that Rita that fast? Furthest thing from a fresh bar made Rita I have ever had. When I have I ever finished a margarita? Last night. Watered down and terrible. On to the food. I've had better bbq at HEB. Sausage and Brisket were cooler than Luke warm, no flavor and the brisket was dry. My wife's review of the turkey and chicken were the same as mine. They close at 9pm, but I had plenty of time to enjoy my meal. I opted for an Angus Brisket Sandwich & it was packed full of meat. At each table is a bottle of Stubbs BBQ sauce. Needed for all this meat to go down. My two sides were creamed Spinach & their homemade potato salad. Tasty. I also added a mini loaf of their cornbread. I was so full that I didn't get a chance to eat it. It's a ToGo box for me to my hotel. Ambiance. This is an iconic music venue, but honestly I hate it. Lol. Still I have to give it three stars. Standing on the uneven gravely ground is awful in your 20s, and of course it gets even worse as you get older. I have only been here for shows and not actually tried any of the food. However, I have been told that the pulled pork sandwich is really good, and is a great snack during a show. But the stage is basically in the corner, it sticks out in a triangular shape, and the views can get so difficult with the trees and such in the way. I try to stand behind the sound folks since the GA area is on a hill so I can be a little bit elevated. The bar staff is always fast and friendly though, and I have never had an issue with them. The pricing for drinks is fine and it's important you get yourself a water if you're doing an outdoor show in Texas. Make sure you hydrate! read more

Attended an event that was hosted at Stubb's and had an amazing time!!! We had brisket, ribs, sausages, chicken and salmon for protein. Sides included potato salad, green beans, slaw, and biscuits; pecan pie for dessert. Honestly came into the event with somewhat low expectations for food, but was definitely blown away! The ribs were the highlight for me -- fall off the bone tender! Brisket in my opinion was average (wouldn't go back for seconds), and chicken was just in between. Potato salad was also solid. The actual event space was great, supers spacious, lots of good seating available and the two bars outside had fast service too. The batter on the onion rings was like a beer batter. They were good. I got creamed spinach on the side and it was delicious. They only gave us ONE piece of bread for a two meat plate!!!! We ordered the 3-meats combo, which turned out to be a perfect choice for two hungry adults. The 3 sides are great choices as well, they helped to change the palate between different bites of the meats. We were able to make a reservation ahead of time since we had a big group. We showed up for our reserved time and they had our table ready, complete with waters for each person and pitchers full of extra water on the table. We ordered some appetizers which were brought out promptly. Everyone got one of their bbq combo plates for dinner that each come with two sides. The favorite meats were brisket and pulled pork! The meat was juicy and the different bbq sauces they have on the table made them extra tasty. My husband was a big fan of his ribs, the meat fell off the bone and was very tender. We tried a variety of different sides and the Mac n cheese stole the show! I got fried okra as well, it was served with so many pieces and some great ranch for dipping. The combos are a bit pricey at $25+ per plate, but it comes with a ton of food which made it feel worth it. The service was pretty good, we were never waiting around for our server or drink refills. I've been to several different bbq joints in Austin over the years visiting and it's always a massive line and being served bbq on a plastic tray. I enjoyed the brisket I got, it was moist, maybe could use little bit more salt but overall was fall off the "bone" and tender.
