Half curry half Zabb I plated at home
Audrey K.

We ordered the Kai Zabb as well as the chicken curry and I would come back for the Kai Zabb but the curry didn't have flavor. It smelt like a great Japanese Golden Curry but like I said, had no taste. The Kai Zabb on the other hand was packed with flavor and the freshness really complimented the heaviness of the fried chicken. Overall, service was kind, and the wait for the food really depends on how many people are there. There were 3 people ahead of us and it took about 25 minutes. So if you're willing to wait if it's busy, you should try it here! It's located in the Pink Flamingo food truck park and parking can be right. Seating is all outdoors, theres a few picnic tables. Ambiance is country like, very casual.

This is a really cute food truck area, with picnic tables that have a little covering, perfect for shade during the hot seasons, and good enough to fend off a slight rain drizzle. If you don't go at a busy time, food takes about 15 min to come out because everything is made fresh to order, but I would still definitely recommend ordering online first. I got the kaeng panaeng, and it was so delicious! Servings are pretty big, and the chicken is so hot and crispy, while maintaining a really nice juiciness. It comes with a refreshing salad which I really appreciate too! I love the flavor of the curry too, it's so deep and rich. I got the medium spiciness level and it was perfect, as someone who enjoys a good amount of spice. The worker was also super friendly, keeping me updated about the wait time and making sure everyone was ok.

Came here with my boyfriend for lunch and we both were super impressed with this spot! The owner is so so nice and takes such pride in the food he's making. We got the Kai Zabb and the Kra Prao and both were fantastic and came with a side salad. The salad was good and the dressing was homemade and very tasty. Both dishes were super good but I think we both liked the Kra Prao the most! The chicken is perfectly crispy and comes with a good portion. The medium spice was perfect and the basil added such a nice flavor. The Kai Zabb was also fantastic but had a lighter sauce that was maybe a little more vinegary. Overall, I think anyone would love this place and there are so many great food trucks on this lot! Super cute vibe and lots of great seating.

Kai Zabb is dangerously addictive. Thai-inspired fried chicken that's light, crispy, and fried perfectly. The rice is high quality (which is rare), and the Kai Zabb sauce is next-level delicious.

Kai Zabb is an absolute hidden gem (tuck in the back of the McNeil food-truck park)! This food truck is serving up one of the most unique and delicious fried chicken dishes with a Thai twist my husband and I ever had. Their fried chicken with curry (kaeng panaeng and kaeng kari) hits different--crispy, juicy (not oily), perfectly seasoned, and paired with a rich, flavorful curry that's comforting and addicting. Definitely a perfect choice for anyone who's a fan of the Japanese chicken curry dish. You can also tell they use only the freshest and highest quality ingredients--the flavors are vibrant, and everything tastes so thoughtfully prepared. It's comfort food elevated to the next level! Not to mention their Thai tea and fried banana dessert slap--the tea doesn't taste water down like many places in Austin and the dessert is a sweet, warm hug in your mouth. Also, it's a small detail, but I appreciated that their food is packed inside a sturdy paper container rather than in a styrofoam or plastic, which makes it easier to reheat later in the microwave as well as reduce the exposure to microplastics. All in all, this food truck is run by the original owners of Dang Hot 89. Thus, if you're a fan of the food prior to it moving to the East side you will not be disappointed with this new concept. All in all, if anyone is looking for something special and crave-worthy, Kai Zabb is a must-try! Trust me--you'll be thinking about that chicken and curry combo long after your last bite (in fact, I'm salivating right now as I'm writing this).

Menu

Just amazing. You can tell that everything is fresh and made with care and love. I believe good food is in the small details and these guys really have it down, not only is the chicken perfectly cooked. The sauces are transcendental. I went with my wife and daughter, and we all got something different and tried each other's. I got the Kra Prao, spicy. I like spicy food, not kill you spicy but spicy and hot. This was perfect. The portions were huge. It comes with rice and a salad so it's basically a full meal plus you're gonna have leftovers. The owner was a joy to meet and you can tell if this is her passion and the setting under the outdoor patio was cozy and complete.

Kaeng Kari and Thai Tea

Super tasty! The owner and chef is super friendly. The chicken was fantastic, really juicy with a very light breading, not at all greasy. I loved the curry. It reminded me a lot of a spicier version of Japanese curry. Meal also comes with a great salad. In front of the truck is a nicely shaded area with tables. Pretty comfy despite it being 95 out. Highly recommend! *photo is with the meal half eaten already. They give a lot more chicken than shown.

Such a cool area to eat! It was much cooler under this covered area (which is also under some tree coverage).

I arrived just before they closed and he had already closed the food prep area. I was ok with trying it another time, but he insisted that it was no issue and made me food anyhow. Everything on the menu has fried chicken. I think everything looked good, and I went for the coconut curry dish with fried chicken and rice. It also came with a side salad which I did not expect but I always appreciate a good side salad with quality lettuce. The curry was so good! I liked it more than the same type of curry at the regular brick and mortar Thai place I've been going to for years. The fried chicken was nice and crispy and the meat juicy. Excellent experience!!! Can't wait to try the other food trucks near by!

Parking & Service: Arrival was stress-free thanks to the massive parking lot in the strip mall. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great recommendations. The Spice Factor: Interestingly, they offer two spice tiers: 1-10 and 10-15. We usually prefer a heavy heat, but found that levels 8 and 9 were still relatively mild. If you're a true spice lover, you might want to venture into the double digits! The Food: Portions are very generous and perfect for family-style dining. Everything was flavorful, though my one small note for the kitchen is that some dishes leaned a bit heavy on the salt. The service has always been great--servers are attentive, friendly, and quick to clear plates, which we've always appreciated. It's part of why we kept coming back. We usually order the fried pompano, and it's always been a favorite. But the last couple of times, the fish has been noticeably smaller--like almost half the size it used to be. That was already a letdown. What really did it for us, though, was finding a plastic to-go cup lid inside one of our drink glasses. It was buried in there, and completely threw us off. At that point, we were just done. It's a bummer because we've liked this place for a long time, but between the smaller portions and that experience, we won't be coming back.

Just enough serrano to whisper heat instead of scream at you. The zucchini, eggplant, and bamboo strips all held their own -- nothing mushy, nothing fighting for attention. Every bite felt intentional and served with white rice. It was pickup, but I stepped inside to grab my order, and that place was spotless. Clean like somebody's mama was doing inspections. Both sauces are great to dip in and the chicken goes great with the rice. If you can handle spice, the boat noodles are a great option too.
