P5. Boat Noodles, P1. Crab Fried Rice, Papaya Salad

One of my favorite Thai places in Austin! Their boat noodles are always a highlight & very authentic. Fast service & not too busy, definitely more on the casual side.

Lunch special, veggie spring roll and Tom Yum soup
Christine G.

We found this place while exploring Google Maps and were drawn to the Thai food. As soon as we sat down, I had a strong feeling that I was in for an authentic meal when I noticed the restaurant playing Thai pop music. Monday was a great day to visit, as they offered a weekday lunch special: $14 for a spring roll, a soup, and an entrée. We both decided to go for the special after discovering that the soup of the day was Tom Yum! One of us chose tofu, and the other chose chicken. The vegetarian spring roll was crispy and paired really well with the semi-sweet sauce. The sourness of the Tom Yum soup was the perfect appetizer to kickstart our appetite. I want to mention the surprising amount of food packed into this seemingly small cup of soup: a big chunk of tomato, onions, mushroom chunks, and 4 pieces of tofu! I wasn't expecting such a hearty portion and was pleasantly surprised. The amount of soup in the cup was also more than enough. As we were finishing our appetizers, our entrées arrived. We ordered Chicken Pad See Ew with 2 chili (spicy) and Chicken Massaman Curry with 3 chili (medium spicy). The Chicken Pad See Ew was heavily flavored--maybe a little salty--but it smelled wonderful and absolutely delicious. The thick noodles were packed with flavor, making for a satisfying combination with the protein and vegetables. The curry sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, but once again, the bowl was filled with food. The portion of chicken was generous, the potatoes were cut into large pieces and cooked just right, and I especially enjoyed the crunchy peanuts that added extra texture. The server was friendly and attentive, checking on us several times throughout the meal. I also appreciated the slice of lemon in the ice water. When I inquired about vegetarian options, I was told they offer vegetable stock-based sauces that can make the dishes vegetarian! We cleaned all our plates and bowls except for the curry. I'd definitely want to visit again and maybe try other à la carte dishes, appetizers, or desserts next time!

Best Thai Food in TEXAS. Great family friendly staff and atmosphere. A Must try in the Central Texas region.

P1. Crab Fried Rice

When my go-to spot for takeout was closed and we were looking for something nearby, we ended up picking up food from here instead. It was a rainy night, and I appreciated that there was dedicated to-go parking in the back, making it convenient to get in and out. I can't speak much about dining inside, but it looks quite intimate with a few tables, and I believe they also have an outdoor patio. In terms of food, we ordered a bit of everything and still had some leftovers for the next day. The green curry was very flavorful and I liked the addition of eggplants and bamboo shoots. The crab fried rice had flakes of crab you could see and the flavor was also good, if not a bit strong. This dish also comes with a side of spicy vinegar/fish sauce if you are looking for even more flavor. The Khao Soi Gai was another curry based dish and would strongly recommend mixing it all together if you get it to go. The Pad Kee Mao was also tasty with a good amount of noodles. We enjoyed most everything we had, but would caution ordering the choo chee salmon which didn't taste the freshest. The salmon also lacked flavor as it seemed the curry was just poured over it. All the proteins we ordered were also a bit overcooked but this could have been because it was sitting for over half an hour until it was consumed. However, overall the flavors of all the dishes were good and will come back since it's so close.

When I want Thai curry, I expect Thai eggplant...not the Italian ones; that's a totally different flavor and pissed me off. And cucumbers? Instead of the squash. I know different places use different ingredients but this was a big disappointment; but the heat level and curry flavor was good and so were the egg rolls; but yea... won't be getting my curry fix from them anymore.

Lunch Pad Kra Pow (pork) - A white round plate contains a mound of steamed white rice and a portion of stir-fried minced meat with vegetables including bell peppers, onions, and garlic. The dish appears to be a Thai-style stir-fry, presented on a wooden table surface, with part of another dish visible in the background.

Updating my review because I've been back to Thai Lada several times. I think I've been dining in or ordering take out from here at least every few weeks. It has become my new frequent Thai spot in this area. In addition to the dishes from my previous review, I've now also tried their fried rice, pad kee mao, tom yum, boat noodles, mango sticky rice, and more. The food is consistently delicious, and the flavors are well balanced. The prices are so reasonable.

Pad See-Ew

Review is for pickup via GrubHub with a 15 minute travel time. We ordered the Pad See-Ew and the Boat Noodles (Spicy 3). Pad See-Ew: 2/5. The portions were okay but there wasn't enough meat. Some kind of flavor in the noodles was overwhelming - I think it was either oily or buttery. I would recommend some spice to offset this flavor. We ordered with zero spice and I couldn't take more than a few bites. Drunken Boat Noodles (4/5). Not enough noodle at all for the dish and way too much basil in the package (I'd suggest adding maybe half the basil). The soup had overwhelmingly salty flavor with hints of spice and more complex flavors. The pork rinds went pretty well with it, actually. The spice was packaged separately and I couldn't tell if the soup was already spicy or if I had to add it all in to reach the desired spice level. Overall, it's an okay Thai establishment that is quite pricey for the portions. I hope to try the boat Noodles in person next time.

Dumplings. Had a creamy sauce on top and another sauce on the bottom.

Ordered take out from here and it was a good amount of food. I ordered tofu pad Thai, crab fried rice, chicken wings, and dumplings. The pad Thai was really flavorful and filled with tofu pieces. The crab fried rice had so much crab in it, this was probably my favorite dish. I had the Thai flavored wings and love the tamarind powder dusted on the wings. I would say the dumplings were my least favorite, solely because of the amount of sauce on the dumplings,

N1. Pad Thai Noodle - The image shows a white oval plate filled with Pad Thai noodles, garnished with bean sprouts, chopped peanuts, and a lime wedge. The noodles are stir-fried with a brown sauce, and the bean sprouts are placed on top. The plate is set on a beige surface, and the photo is taken from above, capturing the dish's details clearly.

I went here with a friend and it was pretty decent. The pad Thai wasn't too bad. The spice level was pretty good for a 3 but i guess I like my pad Thai slightly more sweet (?). I'm not really sure what flavor it is, but this place didn't have it. The crab fried rice tasted yummy from the bite I had and the staff were super attentive.

The food here was decent! The Green Curry with Tofu was amazing, the flavor was really good. However, the thickness of the curry could be a little thicker. The curry felt super thin and watery. For the Tofu House Fried Rice, the flavor was really good, it has an eggy flavor if you do get the eggs - which can taste great depending on preference. The miss here were the noodle dishes. Both the Pad Thai and the Pad Kee Mao was very dry and needed more sauce. There did not seem much flavor in these so it was a bit disappointing. I do recommend getting the Thai Tea as it hits the spot for good Thai Tea. We went here on a Thursday and it was a bit empty during dinner hours. The service was great and the waiter was super patient and kind. I would come back again and try something else!

Parking & Service: Arrival was stress-free thanks to the massive parking lot in the strip mall. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great recommendations. The Spice Factor: Interestingly, they offer two spice tiers: 1-10 and 10-15. We usually prefer a heavy heat, but found that levels 8 and 9 were still relatively mild. If you're a true spice lover, you might want to venture into the double digits! The Food: Portions are very generous and perfect for family-style dining. Everything was flavorful, though my one small note for the kitchen is that some dishes leaned a bit heavy on the salt. Overall, a great spot with big flavors.

The service has always been great--servers are attentive, friendly, and quick to clear plates, which we've always appreciated. It's part of why we kept coming back. We usually order the fried pompano, and it's always been a favorite. But the last couple of times, the fish has been noticeably smaller--like almost half the size it used to be. That was already a letdown. What really did it for us, though, was finding a plastic to-go cup lid inside one of our drink glasses. It was buried in there, and completely threw us off. At that point, we were just done. It's a bummer because we've liked this place for a long time, but between the smaller portions and that experience, we won't be coming back.

Just enough serrano to whisper heat instead of scream at you. The zucchini, eggplant, and bamboo strips all held their own -- nothing mushy, nothing fighting for attention. Every bite felt intentional and served with white rice. It was pickup, but I stepped inside to grab my order, and that place was spotless. Clean like somebody's mama was doing inspections. The combo plate is the way to go if you want to try the poached and fried chicken. You get a variety of textures and flavors, both juicy and crunchy. Both sauces are great to dip in and the chicken goes great with the rice. If you can handle spice, the boat noodles are a great option too.
