I got level 3 spice which definitely had a kick, and it also came with a platter of pickled greens, fresh red onions, a slice of lime, and chili oil. The soup itself was really creamy and good, with a slight Malaysian curry flavor. The noodles themselves were thin egg noodles that were slightly soggy but it also came topped with fried crunchy noodles, which provided the crisp. The spice paired well with a creamy Thai iced tea! Good thing they put the Andaman Seafood in a plastic bag, because it spilled and was messy to take out. When we picked up our food, the staff asked if we wanted any utensils or sauce which was nice Chu-Chi Salmon ($22): Not a lot of curry, which was a letdown. The salmon itself was a generous portion but didn't taste like anything special. I did like the carrot slices though. The salmon came with rice so I chose brown rice but it turned out to be purple rice. Son in Law Eggs ($9): Comes with 6 fried egg halves. The tamarind sauce and toppings were great, but I didn't like whatever the outer shell around the egg was. Andaman Seafood ($22): Cane with rice, so we got steamed white rice. The Chinese broccoli was plentiful in my dish and I was really pleased with the tofu. It was the fried variety so it had more texture than the regular firm variety. Best affordable Thai delivery in central Austin. I've pretty much have ordered every Thai food within a 5 miles radius of me, and they are consistently better than everyone that has the same price point. I will say that I am a bit of a pepper head so spice is an important factor to me, and Mai Thai are the only ones who have come close to brutalizing me in the best way possible. Pad Thai, Tom Yum, and Num Tok- Spice level 5 are my go-to's. I loved it, idk why this place has a bad review. The food is actually really good and has GREAT flavor. My guess why the food is rated bad is because white people gave the review. I've noticed while being in Texas, places that cater to the ethnicity that the food is for are given a lover rating then if the food was white washed. Food is really great. In two visits in four days it must be good. Only one dish was disappointing and all the others were excellent. First of all, we can't rave enough about the Tom Yum soup. It's excellent even this time with the chicken. Although I personally preferred it with shrimp Today we tried the spring rolls which were good filled with a lot of lettuce and veggies just the way we like it. The Thai food here is solid. I think there are better Thai places in Austin but given there's a dearth of Asian food in Downtown, mai Thai is a great option. Restaurant was a decent size and cozy. I loved the art on the wall. Server was very attentive, despite all the calls he had to answer and orders that he hand over for pickup. Potions were decent. I ate about half and took the other half to go (which was perfect for my late night dinner later that night hehe). We ordered the Mai Thai noodles and Pad Thai as well as the chicken wing appetizers. Good first visit to Mai Thai. Appreciate the downtown location being so close to quite a few offices nearby, and it was not very crowded at all during the early lunch time on a Friday.
