First review where I'm kinda speechless idk. Went for a birthday and was told it was dinner and they do karaoke for $40. The food was fine but I was a little sketched out when I came in and saw the way they had the buffet style food set out and just the party disco flashing lights and loud music at a place where I'm eating hot food in general. But I was like ok this IS a karaoke thing so it's fine. Ummm that was not karaoke though idk if we were confused or what but apparently on previous occasions from those in our party this WAS karaoke. No order to the que of what table had aux for the "karaoke" so of the 4 huge party tables we actually never got to play a song and then the other 2 tables that did didn't even sing? So I'm really not sure why they wanted aux just to play really loud club music while they ate off paper plates? Genuinely felt terrible for the workers though because one of the party tables was actually horrific and seemed out of their minds wasted and wouldn't leave. Sorry to y'all and also I think you should stop marketing and offering this karaoke or whatever it is supposed to be as a bit in your restaurant. read more

My eggplant dish was standard. Nothing extraordinary but it came to me served piping hot. The eggplant was a tad mushy and it lacked in basil (as I ordered), but it was eggplant, so I was fine. I asked for Jasmine green tea and they gave me a big ol' pot full of it and then refilled my hot water. YAAAAASS...Points for that. The server was very attentive. Almost TOO attentive. I was on a date and wanted a little privacy talking to my handsome fellow but we were interrupted a few too many times. However, on the flip side, I guess that's nothing to be upset about. I'd rather that they be too attentive than lacking in attentiveness altogether. We had the whole dining room to ourselves. I decided to pay a visit to this restaurant the other night for an early dinner. As soon as I arrived, I noticed the light were off and takeout orders were only being placed on the phone. The hostess gave me a funny look when I asked if the dining room was open and said sure. I was seated and given a huff and puff by the waiter as he placed my menu on the table and turned on the lights I decided to get the chicken garlic dinner special. The food was pretty savory- I really enjoyed the egg drop soup and fried wonton noodles. My chicken was a little over cooked and sparse in quantity. The white rice was cooked to perfection- very fluffy and sticky. I was a little sketched out by how fast my order came out. The people that were ordering takeout had their order come out fast too and made a comment about it. It made me ponder on how fresh the food actually was. Next time, I will be getting takeout. Maybe I came on an off day but quality of service is a big part of the restaurant business. Do yourself a favor and don't bother dining in. read more

The fourth star is for being one of the few Chinese restaurants open during COVID-19. In fact, aside from the staff wearing masks, you'd hardly even know there was a change, which I appreciated. The food still comes out on actual plates, there's real silverware, and there's sweetener for the tea. First things first. The staff is friendly, efficient, and happy to customize orders. As far as customizing orders, I'd also note that the menu lists what's on every entree -- which, as a picky eater, I really appreciate. Also, the food comes out quick. Very quick -- as in approaching fast food speeds. Let's talk about the food. Fried pork potstickers. Classic Americanized Chinese food goodness. Unlike a lot of restaurants using the same food service product, these are the real deal -- steamed, then a quick pan fry before serving. And they're also larger than average. Combine these with the sauce and the chili oil (served on request) and you have a great appetizer to share or even a small plate for one. I also tried the General Tso's Chicken. Spicy Szechuan brags about serving all white meat chicken and it shows. As much as I know the quality of white meat is better, it also makes for a dryer entree. As such, I'd have appreciated a bit more sauce on the chicken. The large bowl of white rice was cooked correctly and made a perfect accompaniment for the chicken. All in all, it's perfectly good Americanized Chinese food -- and even more perfect as a dine-in option in the current environment. read more

Only been here a handful of times, but each time has been consistent. Food is legit. No frills and thrills to speak of, but it is Good to Great depending on what you order. Service is fairly quick if its not too busy, or as needed if really busy. Personally i think the Beef Lo Mein is mediocre, but Crab Ragoons and Sesame Chicken is the Bomb! Order the sesame chicken extra spicy if you want to know what i'm talking about! I think you'll either Love it, Hate it, or develop a Love/Hate but Tolerate kinda of liking to the Snow Pea. We were proudly told that there has been a change in ownership. I cannot remember the name on the menu, but there was a change from Spicy Szechuan. I normally wouldn't rate a new business this low believing that it is unfair to judge to harshly until the staff gets into a normal business routine. But, in this case, the food is just not very good. The hot and sour soup was good (which is very important) but both our entrees just didn't have a fresh flavor or texture and generally lack flavor. We went to Spicy Szechuan because a flier had been delivered to our house and we support local restaurants in our area. The parking lot was empty at 7:00 on a Friday evening, so we had our reservations about going in. There was no one in the place, but we sat down and ordered anyway. Soon, 21 young men arrived and proceeded to occupy an adjoining room. Immediately, they began to play very loud music and the conversations were at a high pitch. Then, they fired up a disco ball and it got even louder. No effort to apologize for what they knew was coming (the room had been set up for the group) and no accommodation was made for us. I asked to speak to the manager, manager refuses to come to the table. Snow Pea knows how to satisfy Mr. Smidgens's craving for spicy sesame chicken and mouth watering hot and sour soup. I have been dining at Snow Pea for over a decade now and they never disappoint. They have a great Sushi happy hour during the week and great prices on their lunch specials. I've been to many chinese restaurant in austin, and a common downfall I come across is massive portions, tiny flavors. While Snow Pea doesn't offer the biggest of portion size, it more than makes up for it with the tremendous flavor they offer. I mean really, who wants left-overs of bad food anyways? I think my favorite dish at Snow Pea is their orange beef. Amazing. Lightly fried, kind of spicy and tender, its defintiely a great dish. Their general tso's chicken is also another entree I recommend. . Ive tried some of the rolls including the Foxy Lady and the OMG rolls. Both are amazing. I come here often and am pretty pleased. The vegetarian dumplings are the bomb, and I always get the garlic eggplant. Their noodle dishes are just ok, and I have never tried their sushi. Service has always been great. A few times we've seen groups of college students ordering rounds of sake bombs, (maybe they don't check IDs very carefully). A few suggestions for them would be to improve their tea (hot green is just Lipton) and I roll my eyes at places that upcharge for brown rice. The bathroom doors don't lock. The waitress ignored us multiple times and when it came to paying, she abruptly took the merchant copy of the receipt to check the tip amount.
