We started with the salt and pepper tofu! And boy these were so so so delicious, crunchy crispy battered layer with tofu inside. It was heavenly. Just the right amount of pepper. Comes out piping hot, we love that! Got the beef pho with steak, meatball, and tendon (you choose 3 from a list). It was a huge bowl and full of noodles. The broth was delicious and not overly salty. I added chili oil, sriracha sauce, and hoisin, all the sprouts, cilantro, and basil. It was delicious. Hubs got het say special stir fry with tofu and it was a gorgeous medley of vegetables and tofu with rice noodle. So good, also very generous portions. Our bellies were full when we left! authentic and fresh! I was craving Vietnamese food today and found this place nearby on yelp. I started with brisket Bao buns, which were sitting on a perfect smear of hoisin sauce and crisp vegetables. The buns are quite filling so I was pleased to see No Meat Pho on the menu (just broth, noodles and fixings.) the beef broth is so flavorful and was served steaming hot. I did have room for more protein so I ordered a side of chicken, which was excellent and you could taste the charcoal from the grill. Everything was very fresh. The restaurants owners are very rude. I politely asked for a plastic utensils and was met with an attitude from the cashier. Was not greeted when i walked in and did not feel welcomed. If you're looking for a nice restaurant, please look else where. Upon this review the owner of the shop came into my job to personally speak with my manager to get me fired. Claimed i was not willing to pay for the utensils but his wife told me very clearly "Next time you'll have to pay for that" I nodded then walked away. I came in on a Sunday night on a whim. Food was very affordable and I liked that they had a lot of side options as someone who doesn't usually finish full servings. We were in the mood for some Pho and decided to try this spot (new to us) on our way home to South Austin from downtown. The space itself was in a strip mall - plenty of tables but no AC so even though it's November we all know it is NOT cool yet here in Austin. So a hot, humid restaurant plus hot Pho was not a great combo. The dishes were priced competitively and the two pho bowls we ordered came out incredibly fast. I had the chicken pho and my hubs had some kind of beef stew. The beef was FAR better than my chicken. The broth had more depth and the beef was tender and flavored nicely. The chicken pho was bland - the chicken itself rather dry despite being in soup, and the added steamed veg were actually just tossed into the soup raw so not actually cooked in anyway. The raw veg mix consisted of a lot of bad base of cabbage so not really edible for the extra $3.75. Overall, it's not a place we'd return to - our local pho spot in Southpark meadows is way better. read more

Checked out this Vietnamese restaurant near our neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! We shared an order of the Chicken Wings appetizer (4 pieces) and enjoyed the sweet and tangy sauce that was used to sauté the wings, especially the generous amount of cooked white onions that were also covered in the sauce. That being said, I did wish that the wings were made crispier. As for the combination pho bowl I ordered, the broth was light and flavorful, yet not too salty. They gave a generous portion of both the meats and the noodles, and I'd say the ratio between the two was well-balanced. After flying back into town late morning my husband and I headed to our favorite phó spot but they weren't open yet so I searched Yelp and found that HSVK was open nearby. We drove over and got seated right away. We ordered the Brisket Phó, Grilled Pork Banh Mi and Egg Rolls. The egg rolls were small but packed with good flavor which was enhanced by the accompanying fish sauce. Phó was good with plenty of noodles and broth and the brisket was nice and lean. The banh mi was excellent! The bread was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside. The pork was tender and tasty. I would have liked more pickled veggies -- I'll remember to request next time. I deducted a star for service, which was fine up to the point our food was served. There were only two other parties dining in and once everyone was served, the staff seemed to be busy behind the counter. No one ever came back by to offer a beverage refill or ask if we needed anything. Once we were done, we had to go to the counter to close out our bill. Anyone that's Vietnamese living in Austin knows it's not an easy quest looking for authentic Vietnamese food that reminds you of the comfort of home. After trying a few dishes, Het Say is not the best Vietnamese food I've had, but compared to other Asian restaurants serving Viet food in the area, certainly one of the most authentic. One dish in particular that I've struggled to find in the area, Com Thit Nuong (Grilled Pork with Rice). Most places in Austin serve a healthier version of this dish, but Het Say serves their grilled pork almost close to the way it's meant to be-- charred, bold with lemongrass, and sweet and savory all at the same time. Het Say certainly has potential, but doesn't quite hit the mark yet. It's missing it's zhush to make this restaurant a staple in the community. Food presentation, quality of ingredients, timing of dishes, a revamp of the restaurant interior, are just a few items to start with. read more

Deep in my soul I want this to be at least a four-star review but I have to be honest right? If you can get past the very sketchy neighborhood and limited parking at peak times you've got it licked. Met up with my fellow yelper who I haven't seen in years here because this place was suggested and it was not a bad choice the only thing I would say is do not order the fried crispy noodles. The owner or manager whoever he was did warn me to be fair but a simple fix would be not to add the straight beef powder which made it salty as he says but to make the slur with a little bit more of cornstarch or even water to blend it out a little bit come otherwise you're going to be sitting in the corner for salt syndrome. My friend had the vegetable pho which she said was very flavorful for all the vegetarian dishes that she usually eats and she was content. I also ordered the spicy edamame which was decent, not bad at all. And the only other thing amok is the water! It really tasted a lot like tin water or copper water I could not figure it out so instead ordered a very sugary Sprite to mask any other variable taste. Because are the prices on the menus are on par for the times that we are in the supposedly this inflation recession Ukraine Russia War Chinese covid landing on Pluto whatever hurricane is in town. And a big plus is the owner or manager whoever the gentleman was was very very cordial and accommodating to his customers. SOLID Vietnamese food. What you see, is what you get. The place is really no frills, we came in looking for a good lunch meal, that wasn't going to break the bank, and fill our stomach with some good ole pho. This place absolutely didn't disappoint, we had some friends visiting from Houston, which were even pleasantly surprised with how "solid" the food was. The portions are extremely generous, the flavor of the broth was great, the ribeye, and meatballs were good. And well, just a good meal. The service reminded me of the Chinatown spots in NYC (which is a good thing!). Straight to the point, get you your food, and then the check. Upon entering we were warmly greeted by a nice person. Our food was made to order, but still came out quickly and filled with flavor. The brisket was tender. My hubby's pho bowl was loaded with meats, so he was in meat heaven. LOL! The grills onions on top were a perfect addition. My honeydew melon boba drink was perfect. It was fruity, rich and creamy, but not too sweet and loaded with chewy tapioca pearls. The prices are reasonable for the portion sizes and the food is good. This spot is located in a small strip mall with plenty of parking.
