This is a truly great bowl of pho, the soup is clean. Everything is just so good. The eggrolls are delicious. This is a pho place but their house special banh mi is also epic. One of my favorite in town. The wait is not too bad if you don't go in peak hours. There is a bubble place next door as well to increase your calorie count for the meal. read more

We waited for ~30 min since we had 7+ people. -There's a bunch of Asian people eating here. -The pho resembles my mom's homemade pho. It hit the spot. I went with the thịt chín (brisket) and they were so generous! The brisket was delicious and tender. -My fiancé ordered the đặc biệt (special) with all the meats. No phone number or anything like that -- so you cannot leave the building if you don't want to miss your turn. It is a busy spot and people come and go pretty fast. Not sure why I haven't rated this place yet because I have been here so very many times. It is probably my favorite pho place in town. It's just so clean. The broth is so clean. It just makes you not feel too bad after you eat this. Its always hot and fresh and fast when it comes out. So very fast lol They are so busy for a reason. Today is no exception. It was so busy during lunch hour on a Saturday. There was a lot of people and a huge line outside. We had to put our names down and it took a good not too long 15 minutes or so and we almost had to share a table, but they were gracious enough to give us our own table if we waited a little longer. We tried the wings for the first time because sometimes it's out. It's a little steep for six wings for 9.50 but it was fried perfectly well and delicious. Very tasty with a lot of fish sauce. My usual combo was perfect. I love how they give you a lot of different cuts of meat and meatballs and lots of noodles. Well worth the large. My friend got the tofu pho and all the times we've come everyone has gotten different items. We even tried the banh mi one time and it was delicious as well. I see they have rice plates now. Slowly expanding their menu. So smart! This place has been consistent. It's definitely my go to place. I tell everyone about if they want a good pho place. They don't open all the time though so always check the hours. They don't need to. They can afford to close half the week because of so many people coming all the time. So happy for them. Happy it's not too far from where we live. It's kind of fun that it's connected to Hong Kong tea next-door. Have yet to really love their drinks there. We stopped by this restaurant to grab a quick bite to eat before we head out to a show. Don't be deceived by the simple menu. The food quality is spectacular. We got some delicious banh mi and the bread that they use has a nice crunch on the outside, but it is soft and fluffy on the inside. They also use some really unique meats on the inside that I appreciate. It's some sort of pork type of slice. The pate compliments the other flavors so well. And I love that it doesn't break the bank. Customer service was very friendly and speedy and they played a role in us having such a great evening that day.!! I've been meaning to try this spot out for a while since it os often touted as the best pho in Austin. I'd say I would agree so far with the pho spots I've tried. There are plenty of decent to good options in Austin, but Pho Phong Luu seemed to have the cleanest, but also most flavorful broth out of them all. From the photo I took, you can see that the broth is very clear, which generally indicates the level of care they took to prepare it. I also tried the wings, which I thought were very flavorful, but perhaps a bit too sweet for my taste with the Garlic sauce. Of course they are a good contrast to the pho, I just think in general, I don't prefer sweet chicken sauces. Another thing to mention is that they've got their efficiency down to a science. You put your name on the waiting list, and you can wait next door at HK tea, which is a perfect spot to grab a quick drink while you wait for your table. This is deemed by many to be the best pho in Austin. My Viet friends and friends of friends have endorsed it. I have grown fond of pho over the recent years, but this one was so disappointing for me. I do hope I just ordered the wrong type of pho, although the service at the end was so bizarre that I was left feeling unsettled about it. They are very good at moving their line though and seating people efficiently. We were seated at a long table with other customers, which is a nice strategy to save space. I prefer eating cooked meat, so I was wary of ordering the eye round steak, which makes up half of the pho options. My friend recommended that I get the well done flank instead. It was unfortunate that there is no option between raw/undercooked and well done. I was worried it would be difficult to chew, and it was indeed extremely difficult to eat. I experienced prolonged moments of silent terror when some of the meat went down my throat, but I couldn't chew it off, so the rest was still in my mouth. I was choking silently, but thankfully I survived. The stringy meat aside, the pho just didn't have much of a flavour to it. I really can't see what the hype is about. My friend liked it though, and he described it as "one step above mid." Although I felt like I was lowkey dying from the meat, things were overall not too bad until the server came for us to pay. She asked us if we were together or separate, and we said separate. She said okay and chose my friend's individual order to pay on the device. Then she left and never came back. We were waiting for quite a while, realized she would never come back, then my friend started toggling around to choose our other orders so we could pay. Luckily he knew how to do it, but it would be wild for the restaurant just to expect customers to do it. Came for lunch on a Sunday afternoon with a party of 11 around 1pm and had to wait about an hour before we could get seated. The restaurant shares an open-ish layout with a boba shop so we were able to wait inside the boba shop, away from the heat, while we wait for our table. Once we sat down, we were able to order quickly and the food arrived pretty quickly. Everyone ordered their own pho and we got some summer rolls and spring rolls to share, as well as 2 of the friend rice. Everything was delicious and we ate it all. Plenty of parking spots around the building. Plenty of tables inside. But always bussin so expect a wait unless you come at odd hours. Pho is nuanced and when the broth is done right you know you found a gem. Phong Luu broth is outstanding in flavor. Their beef , brisket and meatballs were top notch. There's plenty of parking available around the restaurant, so that won't be an issue. Id say the restaurant is very casual and a bit loud, so if you're looking for a quiet place this might not be the right choice. We got seated very quickly. It seemed like most people who come here sit down already knowing what they want, cause the servers asked us what we wanted as soon as we sat down! I honestly think this is the only Pho place that I've been to that's 100% MSG free. I thought the broth was on the sweeter side, but it was still very delicious. The spices seemed noticeably fresher, standing out especially in the meatballs. An aromatic note from the cloves were present and enjoyable. The service was also great, and they checked on me multiple times to make sure everything was perfect. Even with a line, they also got me seated surprisingly quickly. They gave me the option to sit with another single party, and we ended up getting along pretty well which made for a unique experience of randomly connecting with someone. Pho Phong Luu is neighbors with HK Tea. It's easy to traverse from one side to the other through the gap in the separating wall between them. Ordered a Combination Pho and their Special Bahn Mi to go. Was ready in a jiffy (less than 10 minutes) at 10:30am in the morning. Packaging: The pho came in three separate containers. Meat and noodles came in a plastic bowl, but the raw beef slices wrapped in plastic wrap were hiding underneath just above the noodles. So if you get takeout from here, it'll be good to double check before pouring the broth over. I do appreciate the wrapping of the raw sliced beef, as it prevents oxidation and getting blood on the other items. But I would place that beef on the top layer rather than the bottom so that customers are aware of the plastic wrap. I ended up transferring the contents to a ceramic bowl. The broth came in a a separate plastic container, not piping hot to avoid diffusion of any non-polymerized material into the liquid. Opening the container, there was a strong smell of star anise. I dumped the broth into a pot to heat it up. The bean sprouts, basil, and sliced jalapeños came in a separate baggie. Once the broth was ready, I poured it over the other ingredients, then added in the veggies. I opted to not add the Sriracha or Hoisin sauce (which are provided in little packets). The broth was on the lighter side, but still had a wonderful flavorful. It was not an intense dark brown beefy flavor, but a really good savory essence filled with more spices, herbs, and onions. The lengthy jalapeño slices lent a hint of spiciness. The various beef cuts contained in the dish also had very nice savory flavors (perhaps even more so than the broth!). In contrast, the tendon and tripe were less flavorful than the broth, but on the plus side they were soft and not chewy. The rice noodles. I believe their rice noodles are pre-packaged, not freshly made. Their noodles were definitely almost soft enough that if I wasn't paying close attention I might believe they were fresh rice noodles. Regardless of whether they were fresh or pre-packaged, the noodles did their job. Bahn Mi: Glorious, very slight sweetness, well-balanced savoriness. I'm definitely going to order this another time. The pickled radish, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and bread become a platform for elevating meat fillings within. I'll definitely be going back to try out more of their menu in the near future. read more

This place is genuinely legit and authentically Vietnamese. My Vietnamese wife and family have told me so many great things about it that I'm glad I finally tried it out. I ordered pho with meatballs and rare steak, opting for the meats and cuts I enjoy eating the most. My food was delivered to my table within 5 minutes, in hot, tasty pho broth that may be my favorite. The vegetables were all fresh. I added some bean sprouts and basil to my pho and pushed them into the soup to cook them. The noodles and meats were all well-cooked and tasted delicious. I also had the opportunity to try their famous fried chicken wings dunked with their house-made fish sauce. The crispy chicken wings had a unique flavor, unlike any other chicken wings I've tried elsewhere. I love how they added their Vietnamese spin to these wings with the fish sauce, a staple in Vietnamese cooking. It was quiet inside when we went, and we had great conversations.
