Loved everything about this place! Well priced, and good quality ingredients. They use local sourdough bread but do have a gluten free / dairy free sandwich option. I was very excited to come and get some food here because they said the food was excellent. Sadly disappointed on their service, staff is polite but not very friendly. I asked for a turkey sandwich and a juice and she was frustrated for all the orders and said that the order will take 20 min, I said it's ok I can work in the meantime. 48 minutes later I have no food yet, only the juice. I went and asked for the food and she looked all confused and said, Oh let me check. She came back with my sandwich and said I'm sorry. So they totally forgot about the food. The sandwich was ok, I paid 20 dollars for a juice and a very skinny sandwich . Definitely not worth the time. read more

I should eat here more often as it is delicious however this place is my savior for each and every time i get sick. This is Mom 2.0 for me. Delicious soups and that grilled cheese always hit the spot when Im feeling my worst. Imagine if I ate this feeling my best? Is there a higher level of best? The Soup Peddler has been in Austin since he was just a guy making soup at home and delivering it on a bicycle. Now he's expanded to several locations around town, and we were pleased to see this one on an excursion to the east side. The original recipe soups vary seasonally and we've found all to be to our liking, vegetarian dishes especially. Soup comes in various sizes with a side of French bread stick or oyster crackers. They do have sandwiches and smoothies and several gluten free and vegan offerings in each category. They also offer a few healthy juice shots. I've attached photos of their current menus. This location has a private parking lot and a few tables outside and inside, with a counter facing the outside window in addition. Nothing fancy, but the food is great. There is a small lot next to the restaurant and on the street. You order at the front and prepare the meal in about 5 min. I got the basil pesto and provolone grilled cheese and white bean soup. The grilled cheese bread is thick and sooo delicious. I also liked the nuttiness of the bean soup. You can order different sizes, but the 8oz and sandwich was enough for me! They have an indoor location now here which is great because before it was just a stand outside and it was really hot. This is my go-to spot whenever i feel sick and is in need of some soup. They have certain soups on rotation so they aren't always available. Today i tried their texas chili which was surprisingly really good. It came with a side of fritos and cheese which was a nice addition. The grilled cheese itself is ok but lacks flavor. They have three different hot sauces to choose from which is definitely needed for the grilled cheese sandwiches here. This is the perfect place to pick up some lunch. As the name suggests, they do offer soup (with vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options) but they also have amazing grilled cheeses, smoothies, and juices. If you can, it is probably best to pre-order online so that you can quickly grab and go from their pre-order pick-up window. They technically have a few chairs and tables there, but nothing substantial or very comfortable. They have very limited parking that they share with two other businesses. I had learned about this place because they were were giving away free soup for proof of voting and I was impressed by the taste and efficiency. I will fondly remember coming back when I was sick and just wanted some good soup. My most recent visit was because we didn't know what we wanted for lunch and happened to be driving in the area. I ordered the basil pesto and provolone grilled cheese, broccoli cheddar soup, and a watermelon strawberry smoothie. There were a few other customers already there waiting before me and some others came to pick up their pre-order so my wait of about 15-20 minutes wasn't too bad considering. I am usually not a fan of grilled cheese but I never hesitate to get them from here! The bread is the perfect thickness and sturdiness, with a lovely browned exterior for some buttery crunch. The cheese has a nice gooey stretch and a saltiness that balances well with the basil pesto. I also recommend their apple and Muenster grilled cheese for a balance of salty and sweet. Their soup options usually don't disappoint, although I wasn't a fan of their broccoli cheese soup. Instead of chunks of broccoli, it's also blended into a lumpy green soup, but maybe that's just my personal taste. I've tried their chicken soup with rice though, and it is excellent! I've only ever tried their watermelon strawberry smoothie but it is probably one of my favorite smoothies out there. I'm biased because watermelon and strawberry are my favorite fruits, but their smoothies are always blended just right so that you get the smooth texture without it being watery or lumpy. read more
