***SMOOTHIE ONLY REVIEW*** I'll be honest, Yelp: I most sincerely had reservations about The Soup Peddler. Reason: The menu reads sort of average and practical. Why buy stuff I could make at home? When I spend money, I'm paying for a hit of culture and flavor. This economy is crazy. You've gotta choose wisely. I can save money and do average at home. HOWEVER, I was on a mission for a real pineapple and kale smoothie, and Austin has been inconsistent with this. Juice-Land makes mistakes with substitutions (they don't have it on the menu) and Smoothie King is an "all over the place" expensive hot mess caught up in a boycott, so here I found myself. I ordered the Tropicalia (24 oz): mango, banana, pineapple juice, lemon, kale, spirulina. Solid lineup. But I don't like juice substitutions when you can have real fruit, so my *ONE ASK* was to please add real pineapple on top of everything. Add actual pineapple, not just juice. They said yes!!! No extra charge. And that's where everything changed. This tasted CRAFTED. This tasted INTENTIONAL. Winner. WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER. This is easily the BEST smoothie I've had in Austin. That I've had ever. Ok, Erewhon in LA has been the best. But this was fresh, bright, and clean. Sweet without tipping into sugar overload. The pineapple flavor popped and was balanced by the earthiness of the kale and spirulina so it felt refined and it didn't feel like a juice bomb. Perfecto. Service was straightforward. Pleasant and efficient, not over the top. It works. But the point is I came in skeptical and I left planning my next visit. I want to try everything. If this smoothie delivered then I have high hopes for the rest of the menu. Forgive my doubts. read more

That apple grilled cheese with muenster and granny Smith apples was really good but wasn't going to fill me up, so I added a slice of ham to it and it was elevated even better!! Not much else to say, but this first visit definitely won't be my last now that I've finally gone to one of these locations. I bet the drinks/smoothies are really good. I was looking forward to this establishment thinking, by the name, we would get a large variety of soups. Well, the tiny lobby with the menu told us differently. They have a small selection of soups but if you want a smoothie this is your place. The sandwiches are overpriced, tasteless and are a basic grilled cheese for $7. At the recommendation of a very healthy friend, I picked up a smoothie for another friend who was in the hospital and could only have fresh non-sweetened items and one for myself (banana & peanut butter). Mine was delicious. I got the small size which was perfect for me. I got the larger size for my friend as I didn't know how much she'd like to have. Glad to see a healthy alternative for smoothies and soup in the NW Hills area! I ordered the chicken rice soup and a baguette slice. The soup was delicious, but it wasn't hot, just warm. I got it to go so I didn't realize it until I was eating it in my car. The baguette unfortunately was hard as a rock so I couldn't eat it. I will definitely go back though because like I said the soup was delicious. First time trying The Soup Peddler and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has an assortment of choices...smoothies, grilled cheese sandwiches and of course, soups! I got a small strawberry banana smoothie and turkey and rice soup. I love smoothies and I was especially taken by the robust flavor of my smooth without the eye-squinting sweet taste...yum!!! My soup from the cup looked a bit oily, but that was deceptive because when I ate it was smooth as silk. The tomatoey flavor was rich and flavorful. It reminded me of a cuban soup I had in Miami. The Soup Peddler on Far West Blvd. has a small amount of seating inside and more seating outside. On a sunny day like today, it would be pleasant to sit outside. The Soup Peddler was one of my favorite spots when I was younger, but now I just make my soup, smoothies and sandwiches at home. However, if you're looking to buy soup, smoothies, or sandwiches, The Soup Peddler would be one of the top businesses I'd recommend! I easily ordered via the Toast app, was greeted with a smile when I arrived, and my perfect soup was ready early. Choice of croutons, crackers (gratis) or bread (surcharge). Okay, the first word that comes to mind.... QUALITY! I am reviewing their food items, so will come back for the smoothies soon, as I recognized those were far more popular than the food options (while I was there). Starting with the tomato basil soup, my photo doesn't do the food justice, but you can just tell the high quality effort they put into this soup. It is not over compensated by heavy cream or tomato paste. You can SEE all of the beautiful seasonings and vegetable delights in the soup. It is bursting with basil, tomato, and onion flavors. Consistency is a bit on the thinner, "organic" side, so if you like Campbells tomato soup and soups extra creamy I would not recommend this for you. I got the basil provolone grilled cheese and it was an incredible pairing with my tomato soup! They use Tullamook cheese and it just oozes out of the sourdough bread like magic. Nice and buttery and you can totally tell the pesto is made in house too. (I think?) 10/10 would recommend for a hearty, warming lunch. I used to order at the South location weekly ten years ago when I lived there. I've only recently started to go back to the Soup Peddler. This time, they have vegan cheese, which they didn't have a decade ago. Their gluten-free vegan grilled cheese is addicting as it reminds me of the texture of Kraft American cheese singles I grew up on as a child. I'm happy that they offer golden mylk, though I wished it was a little sweeter. I like the golden milk at Juiceland more. read more

This was my first time in today and I was a bit let down. I enjoyed the options they had listed. Yet with that said what I ordered was sub pair. I had the tomato basil soup and grilled cheese with GF cheese. The soup was good nothing to write home about but good. Then the grilled cheese was basic. I know what can you except from a GF grilled cheese sandwich but I have had some amazing ones that had me wanting to order another. This one unfortunately was something I feel like was made for individuals who don't care for flavor. They did have other sandwich's I might try but we will see. The space was nice and clean. Not a lot of sitting unless you wanna eat outside. I had ordered my food to go and thought it odd that everything seemed to come In biodegradable materials and they had paper bags. Yet I was given my soup in a drink holder container with the sandwich just placed on top. Nothing major I guess just really odd. The one this I wasn't impressed by was the sign they have that states if you give a yelp review you get a free item on the house. I dont appreciate companies "buying" reviews. Nevertheless check this place out if you are wanting some basic grilled cheese and ok soup.
