Decent Vietnamese food but not traditional but worth a try. We order banh mi with grilled pork with spring roll. The banh mi doesn't come with traditional mayo or pickled veggies, instead it comes with pan fried peppers and onions. It's kinda more like a Philly cheesesteak minus the cheese. The best part of the meal was the fries! The spring roll was really good the meat had a Smokey flavor to it. I highly recommend the spring roll. We also ordered a brisket pho the broth is so good, noodles a bit hard and not so fresh. Overall good but giving me lemons instead of limes with my pho should be a crime. The service was quick and friendly. And the ambiance is filled with a ridiculous amount of alcohol! read more

I had high hopes for Old Saigon Bistro. I went out of my way to drive into this Steiner Ranch establishment. Unfortunately, the food was not worth the trip. First off, this establishment is expensive. $14 for egg rolls is too much. The Pho soup was average. The steak was a low-grade cut and not very appetizing. $50 for eggrolls, Pho, a beer and tip is too steep for me. read more

I love this place because the staff is so friendly. Everyone greeted us when we walked in and the hostess seemed interested in asking about our day. For dinner we had their fried egg rolls and the shaken beef, which seems to be one of their specialties. It was very flavorful and delicious! Then on the way out we got a nice little bottle of wine as a gift for being new customers! We definitely will come back when we're in the area. read more

Really good Vietnamese food. Their rare beef pho had amazing broth and good noodles. We also really enjoyed the beef curry which had a good amount of meat, veggies, and some good rice. I especially liked that it had a curry taste but wasn't spicy at all. Agree with other reviews that the bahn mi was more like a Philly cheese steak but the fries were good. The fried rice was ok, but nothing to write home about. We tried the combination shrimp and chicken. Both meats were good. The crème brûlée was confusing. We got a sample on a spoon and tried the real thing which was more spoon samples with some mint. Tasty but not what we were expecting. Vietnamese iced coffee had some good taste, I just wish there was more of it. The red Thai tea was on the sweet side. The restaurant is nice and quiet and service was quick. We'll be back to try more of the menu and to get more pho and curry. All in all a must try. read more

Probably the best Vietnamese food we've ever had! My wife and I went in for dinner tonight and were incredibly impressed with both the atmosphere and the food. We got shrimp spring rolls for an appetizer and they were delicious! For our meals, my wife ordered the shrimp vermicelli and I ordered the shaken chicken wok. From the moment the food hit our mouths, we were in heaven! The sauce on the shaken chicken wok was smokey with a slight sweet taste. My wife mentioned this is probably the best vermicelli she's ever had even outside of New York City. Afterwards, we were offered their crème brûlée. To say it instantly melted in our mouths would be an understatement. It was perfectly cooked with a slight crunchy glaze. The atmosphere inside was calming and beautiful. Soft, soothing music accompanied the stunning visuals of each of the hand, painted murals. Don't forget to check out the outside koi pond! I simply cannot express how amazing Old Saigon is! Easy place for conversation, and the staff is super friendly and attentive. They went out of their way for our peanut allergy and surprised us with a taste of their creme brûlée. Literally the best waitress/server we have ever had. This family-run restaurant has clean food, adheres to strict allergen practices (I am Celiac and my partner has a soy allergy), are knowledgeable, respectful, have a great sense of humor, are traditionally dressed, and delightful to engage with. They even let us stay late to eat on their lovely porch filled with beautiful plants, and brought water to my dog. Our first experience with this restaurant goes back to their location in Houston. Unfortunately for us they relocated to Austin. The food was always so good that the drive didn't matter when we found out their new restaurant opened. After trying restaurant after restaurant we were always left missing their recipes. The Beef Rib Pho was superb. If you are going to get the Pho, definitely recommend the Beef Rib Pho Great selection and the presentation of the food was excellent. Delicious food, well prepared and presented. The SHAKEN BEEF - BÒ LÚC LẮC is mouth-watering. The meat, with its perfectly seasoned flavors, was cooked to perfection. My wife enjoyed her WELLDONE BRISKET PHO - PHỞ CHÍN. Think, brisket goes international. An interesting and flavorful combination, served with rice noodles and herbs in a bowl of hearty broth. Just simply wonderful! We have eaten here a few times (usually dinner but lunch once) and each time our food has been fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere (you'd never know the space was once the home of Lakeside Pizza....they did a beautiful job on the renovation) and service are lovely and friendly too. It is obvious they are family-run and consistently use fresh ingredients. Note this is NOT the all too-typical "dime a dozen" mediocre pho lunch joint in a strip center....this is the real deal and very much worth the price. Equally suited for casual meals or date nights. The pho taste good. Noodles seems not made in restaurant but ordered from some vendors. No too much surprise. The kids meal i order a chicken rice for my son, the chicken is over cooked. Very hard to chew not tender. The biggest concern is the price. The house special is charged by 25.99 bf taxes. No ideas how inflation can increase a bowl of noodles to 25 bucks. Old Saigon just tossed Steiner Ranch the salad it didn't know it needed. I came in skeptical, left fully handled. The pho was rich, the ramen was smooth, and the banh mi hit with just the right lube of flavor. Every noodle was perfectly moist, and the variety on the menu made for a truly happy ending. Assuming my first visit someone messed up the broth because today it was much better. Service is still weird but attentive. The bun rieu broth was lacking in flavor and there were barely any crab cake pieces. It was disappointing since it looked like it was one of the top mentioned dishes on Yelp. The bu luc lac was decent and hubby enjoyed his dish. For dessert I tried to order che ba mau (coconut milk poured over layers of sweet mung beans,soft red kidney beans, green pandan jelly, and crushed ice) but was told that they didn't have the ingredients to make any of their shaved ice desserts.

This might be the best dim sum in Austin now…read more I actually had never eaten at Shanghai having grown up in Austin. I didn't have their food until around COVID when we got dim sum to go a few times. I remember at that time thinking it was pretty unremarkable, and also quite expensive for dim sum. Fast forward to this year. I'm not sure if they have new ownership or new cooks, but the difference is night and day. I've been a couple of times now for dine-in in dim sum and each time was awesome. You can order off the menu or by QR code. They definitely focus on the classics but they're all executed really well. Standouts for me were the pan fried turnip cake, full of turnip and super sweet, the shrimp and leek pan fried dumplings, shrimp stuffed eggplant, and chili wonton. What makes them unique to me is that the food is all cooked to order and comes out hot and fresh. The fried items are crispy and hot and everything else you can tell just came straight from the kitchen. This avoids the one issue with carts which is that the food has been cooked who knows when and has just been sitting in a steam cart for an unknown amount of time. Also since you order off the menu, you can get exactly what you want instead of having to wait for a cart to come by. The service is always friendly and I've never had to wait to be seated, even on a weekend. If you haven't come here in awhile or written it off in the past, I'd encourage you to come and try it again. Right now it's a hidden gem but if more people realize how much better it is now, it might not be for long. Also bonus points for being a dim sum place that's not super far north like New Fortune 2 or Golden Palace.

For $150/head you get solid Chinese food, with nice presentation. To me, if I consider the $150 price point for the meal, paying simply for presentation is not enough, especially if you consider other restaurants competing at this price point in the Austin area. Very few of the dishes had any real flavor advancements/innovations past the original Chinese dish it was based on. For example, the salt and pepper lobster comes out in this fancy wide wooden dish, filled with dried peppers, and then is seated on a textured stone bowl with sliced lettuce under the lobster tail. All to get 2 bites of typical tasting lobster. Was the lobster good? yes, but the general feeling is pay more to get better presentation, and less food for the money, not a food taste upgrade. To be fair, that may be what the restaurant is targeting. To contextualize Ling's kitchen, I feel as if you would be able to get a larger version of most if not all dishes, with similar quality in Houston for $20. For $150 you would be able to feed an entire family with drinks and dessert normally so I do not feel as if the money is worth it. Not much innovation on the flavors for the palate, but the food had very cute visuals. Service was nice, and the Chef's energy was infectious.

The Iron pot pork rib has a really nice Szechuan pepper flavor, and both the pork ribs and potatos were very crispy. I also liked the meatballs, but some of my friends had different opinions about it. The steamed pork belly dish had a slightly bitter flavor profile on the sauce that I personally did not really care for.
