One of my absolute favorite Asian spots in Austin that is deservedly a well-known classic. I'm very competitive so I love that you have to fight for a seat here and how it's very self-serve. It adds a homemade casual charm. The staff are also so efficient and kind whenever I've visited. I always get a beef noodle soup and douse it in spicy sauce and vinegar. The broth is always so warm and comforting and they give very generous portions of meat. The noodles are my favorite part as they are so long and thick and you can taste how fresh they are. They soak up the broth perfectly. As a pairing, I always get the mix dumpling plate. You can really tell that they make them in-house because of how unique and fresh they taste. The dumpling skins are so light and taste amazing. A top-tier spot in Austin.

Stopped in here after seeing the reviews. Just looking for a quick snack to save off the hunger pangs. Service was quick and easy. Order at the counter. Got the Pork and Shrimp boiled dumplings 12 pcs. $12.75 The dish arrived with 10 minutes. A plateful of dumplings and empty cup for condiments. I thought there would be a dipping sauce. The dumplings were flavorful without a sauce although I would have enjoyed an option. I added some chili sauce to the empty dish and spiced up things. By the end I was completely full and satisfied. Washed down with some authentic bottled green tea.

Another staple I go to regularly and for some reason haven't reviewed!! The must get imo is the beef "burrito". It's beef slices and fresh greens wrapped in a scallion pancake. We also really enjoy the spicy beef noodle, pork soup dumplings, and the beef stewed noodle soup.

Today, my partner was craving Chinese food. We looked at DoorDash so that we could continue working while food was delivered to us. We sorted by highest rated and found Julie's noodle with a 4.8 star rating out of 5. I looked at the menu and found Handmade noodles!! I decided to order the Suan Tsai spicy beef noodles. Wow!! The noodles were amazing because they were thick, wide, flat, cooked to the perfection and tasted light like they should be! The soup was so flavorful with the fermented mustard leaves which I was hoping to see more of, but it was delicious either way. The beef was so thin, delicately sliced, tender, light and easy to chew. The broth is truly a work of art. This soup is now my favorite soup of all time!! I will be ordering this dish again. Next time, I need to ask for utensils because they were not in the DoorDash bag and it's hard to eat when traveling and staying at a hotel.

Revisiting Julie's Noodles! Seeing my old review, wow, Julie's has changed for me! The beef noodle soup I got this time was really flavorful and I am still impressed with their noodles! We came here for Sunday lunch and it was so busy. We barely got the last table way in the back. There's a random, buzzing noise in the corner of the restaurant. I can't figure out what it is. You order at the counter and the server will bring the dish over. Water and utensils are self-serve. It is a classic noodle place for both me and my husband now. (Though I still think the plaza looks uninviting).

back to the noodle tour found this spot on yelp and check it out, this is the triple crown. it is cheap, good, and no tip. the place is setup like a food court essentially. you go up to the cashier to order and get a number for your table. then, someone will bring your food to you. you go to this area to get all your utencils like chopsticks, spoon, bowl, tray...etc thus, no tip. straight up china style. i order the suan chai or sour/pickle cabbage fatty beef noodle. the actual translation. wow, 14bucks, the xiao long bao was 12 bucks total under 30. everything was really good. really generous on the meat. the noodle was freshly pulled. it has the Q. the xiao long bao seems to be freshly made as well. they were bigger size than the taiwanese ones. gotta tear the skin and let some soup flow out, else u get burn if you just eat the whole thing and let the hot soup burst in your mouth. happened many times. i now always tear a piece of skin to let the soup out into the spoon holding the bao and drink it and let it cool a little before engulfing it.

I stopped by Julie's Noodles, known for their homemade noodles, when I was in the area. It is located in a shopping complex off 183. There was plenty of parking available. I went inside and ordered at the counter. I selected the beef noodle stewed soup and it was exactly what I was hoping for. They bring your food out to the table when ready. They have chili oil and other spices on the table so you can customize it to your spice level. The broth was rich and deeply flavorful without being too heavy. The beef was tender and plentiful, and the noodles are the best part because they are homemade had a great texture that held up well in the soup. It also had fresh herbs in the broth which was a nice touch. Everything tasted fresh and well balanced. The portions were generous and comforting. Service was efficient and the space felt casual and welcoming. If you are craving a satisfying bowl of noodle soup in Austin, this is definitely a spot worth visiting.

Pretty solid spot! The service was quick - you order at a counter and they bring your food to the table when it's ready. It's best to grab a table before going to order thought. They were pretty busy New Year's Day and closed early (at around 6 pm), we managed to order before the cut. The food was pretty good quality and delicious. The noodles in all dishes were nice and chewy, not overcooked. Had to get pickled wood ear mushrooms, I love those!

Julie's Noodles is the spot for authentic Chinese Noodles! Absolutely hits the spot every time. Their Beef Noodles, Beef Burrito, and Dumplings are my go to almost every time. You order your food at the counter and self-seat yourself after. It can get very busy on weekends, so factor that in for planning considerations. Highly recommend!

A quick and straightforward spot for dumplings and noodles. I enjoy coming here for a fast, comforting meal. My favorite dish is the crab and pork soup dumplings.

Nice quick again spot with a fair selection. They were open on New Year's Day for limited hours. Food here is pretty good. I usually get frozen dumplings here and fry them at home. Good deal for the size and value. After trying all three, i consistently get the shrimp dumplings. I recommend frying and steaming them but make sure it's cooked through.

items ordered beef burrito noodles with meat and bean sauce beef noodle soup pork chop noodle soup beef burrito is a funny translation lols but honestly one of the best i've had in the states. the scallion pancake on the outside was super crispy and they were super generous with the beef inside. so yummy ~ would order this again and again. the noodles with meat and bean sauce were good but a bit too salty for my taste. came around 7pm on a saturday and it was packed. you order at the counter and grab a seat. turnover is pretty steady so by the time your food comes out, you should be able to find a spot. just be prepared to wait! it took about 30 minutes for us to get our noodles.

Best dumplings in Austin maybe even Texas! Come early because the lines can be out the door. Closed on Tuesdays. Drink options are limited but love the cups for water. Self serve water, silverware, bowls for sharing and chili oil. Very clean inside. Dishes come out quickly and are piping hot. Pan fried dumplings are my favorite. When ordering to go, chili oil is charged. Bathrooms are clean as well.

The bowl itself came loaded with meat--they definitely weren't skimping to save money here. The meat-to-noodle ratio felt great, and every bite actually had substance instead of leaving me fishing around for toppings. As for the broth, I landed somewhere in the middle. It wasn't quite as clear or light as I personally prefer, leaning toward a fattier, milkier undertone that almost reminded me of a Vietnamese pho take on tonkotsu. The flavor itself was undeniably very good, but the richness may have been a bit too much for me personally. One way I usually judge how much I love a pho broth is whether I want to sip the bowl down to the very end, and this one wasn't quite light enough for me to want to do that. I've had richer and deeper pho flavors elsewhere, but I still appreciated the flavor profile here and could absolutely see why this place is so popular. It feels hearty, comforting, and satisfying in a way that clearly resonates with many people. Despite how packed the restaurant was, the atmosphere ended up being surprisingly pleasant. Service moved very quickly, which honestly impressed me given how busy everything felt. Even with the crowd, I didn't dislike the spacing or setup at all--the restaurant still felt comfortable, and the sound of people enjoying their food all around added to the lively, welcoming energy rather than making it feel overwhelming. Overall, Pho Phong Lưu ended up being one of those places where I completely understood the hype, even if it didn't become my personal favorite pho spot. While the broth leaned richer than my preference, I still enjoyed the experience and definitely look forward to trying other dishes next time.

After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did…read moretoday was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany.

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.
