All amazing! Timing and tempo could have been better. My meal came out around 5-10 minutes after my dates meal. His was cold by the time mine came. We were done with our meals for quite a while before the server checked on us about dessert. We were told we only had 3 minutes to order dessert which was a bit off putting considering we had been ready to order at least 15 minutes prior. We got our dessert shortly before 10, and at 10:02 the house lights came on glaringly bright - aka time to get out. We hadn't even gotten our check yet. Our friend recommended this restaurant, so we went to grab a Sunday lunch here. They have marked parking spots and there were plenty when we arrived. No issues getting a table for 3 without a reservation, but it was quite full, so a reservation would not have hurt. The food: Chicken Crispy Pad Thai - I'm not sure what sorcery this is, but they prepared Pad Thai, but with crunchy wide noodles. It's quite a trip and also hits a lot of the senses. Calamari - a very light and crispy batter. These are dipped something like a lime juice pepper sauce. Nice way to start the meal. Shrimp Papaya Salad - crunchy, umami, tangy and with plenty of shrimp. Solid dish Banana Salmon - a curry salmon served with rice. I thought this was pretty good. House of Fusion's menu has Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese influences. There was even a whole dim sum menu that we didn't get a chance to explore. Came here for the 1st time and here is my rundown. Parking was a shared small shopping strip. It was a bit tough since it was also shared parking for residence of apartment tenants. In fact, the restaurant was under the apartment. Parking can be difficult but not unavailable (limited). Food is well, fusion - has interesting food narratives. My wife had a duck red curry and honestly there was not much duck and was imbalanced (overly sweet). We had a grilled (bbq) octopus which was the only one that saved the dinner to be more palatable. We ordered a pad thai that was not spicy; rather, it was sweet. The service, honestly had much for improvement... We had to check twice on our position for waiting for our seat and even when asked... we were mislead twice. We were told its ready but then it wasn't. We were then told we are next but ended up waiting 12 more mins and when we sat down. We has ton request the basics i.g water. Although, we were asked if we are ready to order any drinks. This expression showed negligence over the basic "let me bring you some water" but sell your quickly for something that can hurt you. In addition, they brought then incorrect type of rice and had to wait a bit more. Overall, it was nothing all that unique except higher pricing. The thai food was not authentic at all... the pho xiao long bao was unique and great. Overall, the appertizer: grilled octopus and pho xiao long bao was the only reasonable thing to make it some what interesting to try. One of the best food experiences I've had in Austin in a long time! It was our first time. We arrived without reservation on a Sunday at about 6:10 pm. We made it right before it got crazy busy. We decided to take an outside table so we were sat immediately. It was very busy but majority of the people waiting preferred inside seating. The service was outstanding. Yen was our server. She was attentive and very sweet. We were celebrating my birthday. She went above and beyond with recommendations, clearing empty plates off our table and making sure we were happy. All the servers we encountered were helpful and super friendly. If Yen was busy others came by to refill our drinks and check on our table. Our pho took a little longer than expected. We were actually very content due to the appetizers and were just enjoying the ambiance so it was no big deal. Numerous staff members made sure to apologize for the wait. I appreciated the attentiveness and level of care we received throughout our meal. The food was phenomenal! Well worth the price. The beef pho was tender and fell off the bone. My youngest loved the soup dumplings. The garlic wings were pretty good. My favorite dish we got was the Filet Mignon Pad See Ew. We left very happy and had a wonderful evening. The vibes are great here! This spot is hard to get a reservation, and you have a 15 min grace period to secure your spot, otherwise, you're automatically taken off the reservation roster. They were able to accommodate our 8 person group on a 6 person reservation, but required a 15-20min wait (on a Saturday night). I appreciated the minimal menu, as it allows the restaurant to focus on what they do best. We ordered off the dimsum menu and the regular menu. Papaya Salad 8/10 - great acidity and fresh start to the dinner. Waiter said this dish was sharable between 1-2 people, but would say for a tasting, you're able to share it between 4 people plenty. Pho Xiao Long Bao 10/10 - a must order! This was so flavorful and bursting with the classic pho flavor. The meat on the inside was very tender. Pork Xiao Long Bao 7/10 - hard to beat after trying the Pho XLB. But yummy as well. Grilled Octopus 7/10 - wasn't expecting baby octopus, but flavor was ok. Good if you like a chewy texture of octopus but I'd pass on this next time. Crispy Red Fish (no pic available) 7/10 - ordered the 2.5lb fish for a party of 8 people. Fed us plenty. Loved the crispy tail, although the fish lacked SALT along the entire fish. It was saucy, but the sauce was sweet and sour, and salt would've realllllyyyy helped boost the fish. Texture was soft but firm (not a flaky). Not a bad order at all, just wished it was seasoned. Crispy Pad Thai 9/10 - WOW. Loved the crispy noodles sprinkled throughout. 1618 was highly recommended to us, and we were impressed by the large selection of elevated cuisines inspires by Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, to Singapore flavors. A lot of dishes serves tapas allows you to try many items without committing to large portion. Some of our favorite bites were Xiao Long Bao, Bangkok Wings, Calamari, Truffle Fried Rice, and Duck Curry. Each brought something different and made it enjoyable to explore the menu. Unfortunately, our dining experience fell short when it came to consistency. We had to flag down our waitress for simple requests such as extra Hoisin & Siriracha, Black Pepper, Sambal for Vietnamese Grilled Pork Bowl, as well as missing chopsticks and spoons. A friend kept raving about this place and we finally made brunch plans. 2 pm on a Saturday and they def weren't that busy. They have parking in the Amil building directly across from the entrance which makes it easy to get in and out. Granted the parking was quite busy. Inside the decor is tastefully done and much bigger than it seems. All the tables were simply set and the tram had these beautiful outfits on. Tried the Lychee martini which was tasty and when it came out they had the smoky bubble and when it popped, so much fun! 1618 Asian Fusion has been on my dining bucket list for some time now mainly due its high Yelp rating (top 100 restaurant for three years in a row) coupled with a good friend raving about the restaurant. That friend along with another friend tried 1618 yesterday. OMG it was so delicious!!! In addition, it is important to note 1618 have free garage parking. Our server was initially Marvi, who switched out with Emelia. Both were top notch servers and made our visit to 1618 delightful and memorable. The restaurant itself is striking with curved wood panels, clean architectural lines and visual appeal. We had egg rolls and soup dumplings as an appetizer. The girls had lychee martinis whereas I had a chocolate martini (hard to find these days.) The martinis were smooth and flavorful. Those appetizers were on point especially the eggroll. It was not the typical eggroll..it was seasoned well, wavy and lite in appearance and crunchy to eat. One of my friends even took an eggroll order to go. Now for the entrees...one friend had potstickers + banh pa mi, another had chicken curry and I had Chicken Pad Thai. It was such a lovely meal trying salt and pepper calamari, happy hour crunchy salad, and the banana leaf salmon. I would order all of that again. I've heard great things about this restaurant and boy did it live up to the hype! We came on a Saturday for lunchtime and we were seated quickly. We ordered the soup, dumplings, duck red curry, pepper, steak, orange chicken, and the pad See ew for our entrées. The food came out quickly. My favorite was the pad see ew as the noodles were the perfect texture, and the flavor was delicious. The soup dumplings were bigger than usual and were filled with soup. Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely. After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did today was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany. read more

I came here on a word-of-mouth recommendation, and I was intrigued before I even sat down. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. We came with one goal: try as many things as possible. Saturdays are perfect for that because they offer dim sum. We started with the Pho Xiao Long Bao (Wagyu beef soup dumplings) and the Korean pancakes. The soup dumplings completely stole the show. Perfectly cooked, delicate wrappers, rich and flavorful broth, and with just a touch of chili oil...absolute perfection. I've had soup dumplings in many places, and these are hands down the best I've ever had. I say that with my whole chest. The Korean pancakes were also outstanding. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, with that perfect balance of savory and just a hint of sweetness. Every bite had great texture and flavor. For our entrées, my husband ordered the Banana Salmon. It was spectacular. It's one of those dishes that makes you question whether you've ever really had good curry before. The spice wasn't about heat, it was about depth, warmth, and layers of beautifully balanced flavor. I ordered the Crab&Shrimp Tom Yum Coconut Fried Rice, and this dish deserves its own paragraph. The presentation alone is stunning. The fried rice is served inside a fresh coconut, surrounded by banana leaves and topped with a beautiful orchid. But thankfully, it tastes every bit as incredible as it looks. The coconut adds a delicate sweetness without overpowering the dish. The crab was plentiful, sweet, and incredibly fresh, while the shrimp were perfectly cooked, not a second overdone. Dishes like this require impeccable timing because every ingredient cooks differently, and somehow every single component was flawless. It was one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever eaten. The service was equally impressive. Everyone was warm, attentive, and happy to offer recommendations based on their most popular dishes. They even told us about their live music nights, which immediately gave us another reason to come back. I had the Thai tum yum fried rice this time and it was equally great! The "Award-Winning Pho" was not good at all the very first time I dined here in 2021 but I'm glad I came back (and again!) to give it another shot. I believe the whole peking duck was good; can't recall anything necessarily bad about it but nothing was super impressionable either. As was the rest of the dim sum platter which, while only eight pieces and is technically two dim sum plates, had four soup dumplings. Four/eight are safe for pescatarians. There are a few happy hour dishes that are worth getting there before 6pm for such as the sesame chicken. Theirs is so good we ordered a second dish. The vegan pho is noteworthy for its existence and taste. The coconut fried rice with crab meat served in a scooped out coconut is my new favorite dish. Service was impeccable. Crispy Pad Thai ($22) + Shrimp ($2): Consistently good with any protein, but I think beef pairs the best. The pad thai was crispier this time too. Hu Tieu SG ($21) + Duck ($10): We went with the shrimp and pork belly soup option with extra serrano pepper and hu tieu kho sauce. This version is better than the Hu Tieu Kho, and the duck was a total game changer so I highly recommend adding it. Just know it runs on the blander side without the sauce so make sure you get that extra on the side. Filet Mignon Onion ($25): We got it extra spicy and requested medium rare. I thought the price was a bit steep for a small portion but the meat was cooked well and tasted really good. This is a bit of a hidden gem, as the exterior looks like a random apartment or lease building... then you walk into an alternate world where it's suddenly a gorgeous restaurant! We truly enjoyed our dinner at 1816 Fusion! The food and service were both excellent. We started with the spring rolls and a cocktail, then shared the whole red snapper and duck fried rice, paired with a bottle of Austin Hope. Everything was absolutely delicious and the flavors were fabulous. The red snapper was especially wonderful, and the duck fried rice was the perfect accompaniment. A great place for a first date Invited by a former student (Viet) who knows every excellent Asian restaurant in the area. Bustling even at 5 PM on a Sunday night? Explained by the unobtrusive service, the excellent menu, and wine list that goes on for days and an atmosphere conducive to conversation. Reservations highly recommended. We've been more than once now...we came for a Friday lunch on parents weekend at Texas and have to say this is VERY high end Asian Fusion. The service and the restaurant are both high end...not a cheap Asian food spot. Wife and I were extremely impressed. We had a few items...so I can only speak to that. We had rhe Wagyu dumplings...and you can do grilled or steamed, we had grilled. They were done perfectly. The meat was plenty filling, and the dumpling wasn't overly chewy and also not burned or over cooked. We also had the tenderloin Pad Se Ew...and it is fantastic. Great flavor...and the tenderloin was plenty. We had the General Tso's as well...it was very good...I'll admit I eat some cheap versions and like them, ha, but this gourmet version was very good. They have a full bar and very nice drinks. I would suggest this for very nice dinners, great for family style if you like or getting your own plate. We've been twice and it's consistent. One of the best in the area for Asian Fusion, bar none! We (family) have been several times for multiple occasions and have been never been disappointed with the quality of dishes served and the service, whether dumplings or pad Thai or other, all has been on point. Family proud and family owned! The ambience is nice, can get a tad noisy due all the chatter or larger groups in reserved area. Great music on Friday evenings for certain! read more
