3.5 My husband and I decided to meet up with some friends for lunch. They suggested Chinatown. We hadn't been there in years so we thought we'd give it a try. We drove up and parked on the side. The entrance is on the side of the building. When entering the building there is a sign that says you go downstairs for Dim Sum. The bathrooms are also downstairs. We headed upstairs and were greeted by a nice hostess. We saw our friends already seated and headed over to their table. There was plenty of seating in this restaurant. It was decorated with lots of red, many wine bottles and lots of windows. It was a large room and we were the only customers there for a while. Our waitress gave us some menus and then asked us what we wanted to drink. We ordered waters and she brought them to us quickly. We were not ready to order so she gave us some time to look at the menu. I decided to try a Shanghai Egg roll to start and the Sweet and Sour Chicken plus cashews for my main dish. My husband ordered the Chef Special Beef. The waitress was good as she took care of us the entire time. Making sure we had water and checking to see if we needed refills. The Shanghai Egg roll was okay. It was crispy on the exterior and has tiny pieces of pork in it. I really couldn't taste the pork but the egg roll in general was okay. We were given two types of dipping sauces for our egg rolls. The sweet and sour sauce and the mustard. I ate the majority of my egg roll with sweet and sour as I like the sweet flavor. The mustard sauce was very strong and I couldn't eat very much of it. The sweet and sour chicken was tasty. The chicken was soft and even though it had a fried exterior it wasn't crispy at all. It had plenty of sweet and sour sauce almost too much. It looked like the cashews were a bit overcooked though. It came mixed with pineapple, white onion, and green bell peppers but I honestly didn't taste much of that stuff. I would have loved a more even amount of ingredients but it was mostly fried chicken with lots of sweet and sour sauce. My husband's chef special beef came with crunchy beef, orange peel, and a spicy brown sauce. I tried it and the flavor was really good. The combination of ingredients was flavorful. Overall it was an okay lunch. The restaurant was bright, the service was decent, and the food was okay.

Haven't been back to this restaurant in a long time and found myself in the neighborhood at lunchtime so decided to give it a try. Ordered the Kung Pao Beef. It was as good as I remember it. The hot and sour sauce was just ok so was the egg roll. Beef was tender and veggies fresh and crunchy. Service was fast and friendly. Prices are reasonable. The ambiance is nice and inviting.

Very mediocre to frankly bad. Got the lunch box C for $21 and nothing was great on it. Happy family tasted bad, sushi roll was ok, egg roll and fried rice like cheap Chinese fast food. Even the jasmine tea flavor was subpar. Wife hated her fried.rixe. We love Asian food. Avoid this one... It used to be good a long time ago.

California roll on the happy hour menu

Came here during happy hour and I must say that I love a deal. From draft beers to bites to eat, it gives you a chance to try out a little of this and that that you normally wouldn't try such as their sushi rolls. So let me start off by saying take a moment and check in as they give you a free egg roll for doing so and who doesn't love a perk?). The guy serving us was working the bar as well as the tables in the bar. For what it's worth he was holding it down well. He was attentive and quick to answer any questions. Food came out hot and the serving size was large enough that we could of shared. Will definitely come back.

Egg drop soup and green tea

It was okay. The entrance is hard to find (it is on the side of the building, up the shorter stairs), and it is definitely not ADA compliant anywhere I could see. It is a very quiet restaurant... no music, and with very few patrons, not much in the way of background noise. The servers were nice enough. The food was fine. But it was BLAND. We got the hot and sour soup (all sour, no hot), egg drop soup (velvety and eggy, but nothing else to it), a pork egg roll (served with that sugary American sauce and hot mustard, very little pork), volcano shrimp (supposed to be spicy, but it was just that red sauce with some hair-fine shelters of red peppers- bland), and the seafood delight (bland and creamy). Oh, and a pot of green tea. Overall, it was fine. Even when we got chili paste, it was just kinda smoky and not spicy. It was fine though.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, even the takeout service. This restaurant is consistent in every way - and they're open on Christmas Day!

    Duck stir fry

This place is an oldie and a classy goodie. The place is clean, sterile, and takes appropriate precautions for cleanliness. I am pleased with the staff efforts to make the experience feel safe. Peking Duck 3 ways is absolutely amazing. Now keep in mind, there are not many places in Austin that do this, so this adds extra points to this restaurant fir even attempting. In addition, they serve the courses in the correct order (we tested them). The decor is contemporary yet tradition and has wonderful views ***mental note, the duck bone soup is always served last traditionally*** The first course was the amazing skin and under meat of the duck with scallions and crepes or buns. Succulent meat of duck, crispy skin. The fine scallion straws really bring out the flavor. The second course of stir fry was okay, it was simplistic and a traditional stir fry. It was a stir fry. Good. But nothing super unique about it. The DUCK BONE soup is awesome. That flavor is simply amazing and will make you crave for more. There are no bad with the Peking suck meal. My only main critique is do not ever get it as take out, the soup was more hot and sour tasting. The meat from the stodgy was dry and hard. Overall this was an amazing experience with my family. I would also like to assert that this restaurant would normally be a 3 star however the staff is so sweet and accommodating that it was difficult to not give it a 4.

    Singapore noodle, chicken only
    Mark F.

This is one of our favorite standby places since the food is always consistently good, the service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. Today I tried something new, I tried the Singapore noodle bowl which normally comes with shrimp but since I'm allergic they just added more chicken instead. The dish was listed with one pepper hot, but I really didn't feel much of any heat although I did taste the curry and I thought it was just the right amount of seasoning. The lunch special also includes a fried egg roll and soup of your choice, which is always a nice extra for any type of lunch menu.

Are you looking for traditional chinese ? This is the place for you Great service and great prices. We went during lunch. And it was empty. Sever was fast, friendly, and funny. Decoration was really pretty and unique for a typical chinese.

I ordered hot and sour pork soup. I had never had hot and sour soup with meat. Portions were generous, ingredients fresh, and the food arrived smoking hot. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the restaurant was completely full and customers were continuing to flow in. Because the restaurant is rather small, I had to wait about 20 minutes for my order. Jim, one of the owners, said if I had ordered 3 items it would take about 45 minutes, that's why I went with one. The cumin seeds give it that signature earthy, aromatic flavor and you get a slight tingly numbing spice sensation from the chilis and peppercorn. The lamb is not overly gamey, but it still does taste like lamb so if you are not really a lamb fan, I'd choose something else. - Jumping Fish: A very popular dish! Tender white fish fillets that is so soft it melts in your mouth. It is in a flavorful oil and broth that is refreshing from the fresh jalapenos. It is a savory dish, yet still relatively mild. It commes with napa cabbage as well! This was my favorite dish and I loved the flavor combined with the white rice. - Mapo Tofu (Vegetarian): They have one with pork as well, but I got the vegetarian version. Silky soft tofu cubes in that signature mapo tofu sauce and numbing peppercorns. Despite the appearance of all the dishes, none of them were very spicy. Overall, a comforting soft, spicy, savory dish with a slight tingle. - Eggplant in garlic sauce: A deliciously sweet and umami garlic sauce. The eggplants could have been a bit more cooked through in my opinion though since it was still quite firm. I loved it still! Note that all the dishes to me were not spicy just had an underlying subtle spice or tingle (like a finishing flavor note if you will). Also, since it is sichuan the dishes are on the oilier side. You order with the cashier at the front and pay up front as well. Food comes out quickly. It is a small space with three rows of tables (maybe around 12-15 tables give or take), so it does fill up fast. I went at around 5:40 PM on a Thursday and there was no wait, but by the time we finished eating at around 7PM, the restaurant was full. House of Three Gorges was hyped up a lot on my social media feed and through word of mouth, so I came in with high expectations. Luckily, they did not disappoint.

So here's a quick lil announcement though. The wait for the apps was short, but the wait for my main dish was 15-20 minutes I don't think my wait is Normally that long but just a heads up. This is the cost of cheap but great quality food. For the appetizers I got the spicy shrimp and the steam chicken dumplings. They both came out really hot so be careful lol. Man the spicy shrimp was very delicious and spicy! But not too spicy for me because I'm use to it but if you're not a spicy veteran this does have a good kick. I loved the sauce and the lettuce, which i used pieces of it to scoop and eat my shrimp in whole. This is a 5/5 recommend The dumplings came out in a pair for like 4-5 dollars I think. It was very hot and soft. The only thing tho was that the meat inside the dumpling was a lil dry compared to a lot of Asian restaurants I've tried BUT it tasted good and was flavor. 4/5. I got the Ox tail Beef broth soup and the Nasi Padang. The ox tail was very good, it has its spices but it's a simple soup with the meat, the potatoes and chopped up tomatoes all thrown into the bowl, with wontons. I used the side chili they gave me, lime into the soup. It was so much to eat for me including the rice with the bowl. Of soup was a lot. Because it was ox the price was a bit high so like 19 which is reasonable. The broth was great, it's simple yet very delectable. The Nasi Padang, was a curry based plate with two types of meat, shredded beef and chicken, two different curry flavors. One was sweet and the other was tangy which was different. It wasn't my favorite but the ox tail definitely beat it. Overall this place was really good and something yall should doif you wanna eat out on budget but good.
