Called ahead and was told they offered weekday dim sum. The menu was only about five items and priced about double typical dim sum. If you know anything about dim sum, part of the draw is the price for the food. We ordered five dumplings but received four and when we asked why, we were told they were "made bigger, so you only get four". They were actually smaller, not bigger, so that clearly was not true (we frequent dim sum restaurants so we know the difference) and we were still charged full price. We complained, but the manager did nothing. Nice view, but overpriced and disappointing service. Not worth it. Unless you want to pay double price dim sum and get less than what their menu says you get. In this case the place is fine. read more

The entrance is on the side of the building. When entering the building there is a sign that says you go downstairs for Dim Sum. The bathrooms are also downstairs. We headed upstairs and were greeted by a nice hostess. We saw our friends already seated and headed over to their table. There was plenty of seating in this restaurant. It was decorated with lots of red, many wine bottles and lots of windows. It was a large room and we were the only customers there for a while. Our waitress gave us some menus and then asked us what we wanted to drink. We ordered waters and she brought them to us quickly. We were not ready to order so she gave us some time to look at the menu. I decided to try a Shanghai Egg roll to start and the Sweet and Sour Chicken plus cashews for my main dish. My husband ordered the Chef Special Beef. The waitress was good as she took care of us the entire time. Making sure we had water and checking to see if we needed refills. The Shanghai Egg roll was okay. It was crispy on the exterior and has tiny pieces of pork in it. I really couldn't taste the pork but the egg roll in general was okay. We were given two types of dipping sauces for our egg rolls. The sweet and sour sauce and the mustard. I ate the majority of my egg roll with sweet and sour as I like the sweet flavor. The mustard sauce was very strong and I couldn't eat very much of it. The sweet and sour chicken was tasty. The chicken was soft and even though it had a fried exterior it wasn't crispy at all. It had plenty of sweet and sour sauce almost too much. It looked like the cashews were a bit overcooked though. It came mixed with pineapple, white onion, and green bell peppers but I honestly didn't taste much of that stuff. I would have loved a more even amount of ingredients but it was mostly fried chicken with lots of sweet and sour sauce. My husband's chef special beef came with crunchy beef, orange peel, and a spicy brown sauce. I tried it and the flavor was really good. The combination of ingredients was flavorful. Such an absolute bummer. My family has been coming to Chinatown for over 20 years and after our traditional Christmas Eve dinner we'll never be back. Absolutely insulting service, not because they were understaffed and in the weeds but because we were a family of five and only my wife was drinking while we were sandwiched between two tables that were going hard on the bottle service. They curtly took our order, dropped the food and we were never checked on again while our table filled with plates and our drinks needed refills (We had to flag someone down for chopsticks because they were so fast leaving after dropping the food). Then when they finally dropped our check, after we sat there and watched them ignore our table numerous times and considering just going straight to the front so we could leave, we went to settle up and I was entering our tip my son noticed that they had already autograted our check. For a family of five. No mention of this and we almost doubled tipped for absolute trash service. It seemed underhanded and added more insult to injury after such a mediocre experience. We used to think your rude waiters were novel and funny when the food and ambiance were fantastic but when the food quality drops, we all agreed the food was just ok, and we're treated poorly maybe we should have been paying more attention. Came here during happy hour and I must say that I love a deal. From draft beers to bites to eat, it gives you a chance to try out a little of this and that that you normally wouldn't try such as their sushi rolls. So let me start off by saying take a moment and check in as they give you a free egg roll for doing so and who doesn't love a perk?). It was okay. The entrance is hard to find (it is on the side of the building, up the shorter stairs), and it is definitely not ADA compliant anywhere I could see. It is a very quiet restaurant... no music, and with very few patrons, not much in the way of background noise. The servers were nice enough. The food was fine. But it was BLAND. We got the hot and sour soup (all sour, no hot), egg drop soup (velvety and eggy, but nothing else to it), a pork egg roll (served with that sugary American sauce and hot mustard, very little pork), volcano shrimp (supposed to be spicy, but it was just that red sauce with some hair-fine shelters of red peppers- bland), and the seafood delight (bland and creamy). In addition, they serve the courses in the correct order (we tested them). The decor is contemporary yet tradition and has wonderful views ***mental note, the duck bone soup is always served last traditionally*** The first course was the amazing skin and under meat of the duck with scallions and crepes or buns. Succulent meat of duck, crispy skin. The fine scallion straws really bring out the flavor. The second course of stir fry was okay, it was simplistic and a traditional stir fry. It was a stir fry. Good. But nothing super unique about it. The DUCK BONE soup is awesome. That flavor is simply amazing and will make you crave for more. There are no bad with the Peking suck meal. Better than the Chinese spareribs of my youth. (Chinese spareribs have really really gone downhill in recent years.) I marveled at each bite. My main was fried rice with everything in the house tossed in. I have had more savory fried rice as far as the fried rice itself. But the overall dish was outstanding. The serving was positively enormous. There were vast amounts of protein in the rice. The chicken and shrimp pieces were enormous and utterly packed with flavor. Better yet, there were a lot of them. This was total comfort food. I don't mind being comforted. I can work with that. * * * No one gets cutting edge gourmet points for eating American Chinese at Chinatown North. You aren't getting pig tails, kidneys and sea urchins in Mandarin squid ink. But sometimes food doesn't have to be fancy. It just has to be good. Today I tried something new, I tried the Singapore noodle bowl which normally comes with shrimp but since I'm allergic they just added more chicken instead. The dish was listed with one pepper hot, but I really didn't feel much of any heat although I did taste the curry and I thought it was just the right amount of seasoning. I stopped in on Wednesday night since my coworker let me know about the benefit going on at all three Chinatown locations to help support Hurricane Harvey relief. They also were accepting donations at the restaurant. That is awesome that this restaurant is giving back to the community. I was very happy to see that this place was packed with people who wanted support the Rockport Relief Fund. Be sure to go in using the door on the side near the parking lot. I made the mistake of going into Street Japanese restaurant. It's fine if you make that mistake since you can just go up the stairs to the right. We were seated quickly. We sat near a window. Woohoo! I ordered from the set dinner menu and selected my appetizer, soup and entree. I went with the imperial roll, egg drop soup and Hunan Beef. All were very good. The egg roll was cooked really nicely. Not soggy and had the right amount of crisp. Woohoo! The Hunan Beef had good flavor. I can't wait to come back to eat something else. Stopped in for lunch just before Christmas - didn't realize I entered the sports bar area until other people came through taking a "shortcut" to the restaurant after I had already sat and placed my order...oops. I was the only customer, and there was a funky smell to the place so I was nervous at first. But the waiter was very friendly and attentive and I ate some of the best chicken pad thai I have ever had. I could easily have taken half of it home since the portion was generous, but I couldn't help myself and ate the whole thing! What's better than dim sum for Sunday during brunch time. We got there and was seated immediately to the back room of the restaurant. The waiter came shortly after and take out drink order. First cart came through but it was all sweets, so we decided to skip it. Next cart came we got some plates off of there. Chicken feet was soft and tender, with a few slices of jalapeño which create a little kick to it. The Pe King duck was nicely prepared with the bun and sauce. The duck was very juicy and tender and the bun was very soft. The shrimp dumplings was a bit cold and it harden up just a bit so the taste wasn't so great. The sauté spinach with sauce was good. The wonton soup didn't taste too good, the wonton was a bit hard and the soup wasn't that hot. Other carts didn't come out way so we didn't know what else was available. Maybe next time if we get sitter at the main dinning room we can get a better selection of what's being served. read more

My family loves getting dim sum, and this place is one of our favorites. There's usually little to no wait, and the selection is excellent. While they may have fewer carts than other spots, the food quality is consistently high. We especially enjoy the dumpling cart, where they crisp up the dumplings on a grill at your table. read more
