Mongolian beef because I thought I had to give it a try most Asian places I am very particular and don't like chewy meat. Very good not chewy! Bakmi Ayam noodles with chicken and mushroom very good. I like this more than I thought I would. I also appreciate that it had fresh greens on top. it's also served with some chicken broth. I did not use it yet, smells amazing though. When I walked in, I was greeted by two friendly young ladies. I placed my order and waited. I do not have a large waiting area. They also do not have a large dining room. I feel like there aren't too many Indonesian spots in Austin, so I was very excited to get some here! We came on a Thursday evening and surprisingly it was super empty inside. But we saw a lot of takeout orders going out, so seems like this isn't necessarily a place people eat out at. I really loved the free appetizer of fried wonton wrappers (?) idrk what it was with sweet and sour sauce. It wasn't too oily, and it was really light and crispy, and addicting. We also got Honey walnut shrimp - one of my fave dishes in general, but it came with a good amount of shrimp that was cooked really well too. The walnuts were candied and delicious, and I really liked the crispy stuff it was sitting on. Only thing is I wish it came with more broccoli. Nasi goreng - the server warned us this dish was pretty spicy, but it wasn't too bad! I forgot the name of the dish I got but it was off of the Indonesian menu. They had many items I had never seen before and a few sounded really tasty. Small lil join off of parmer around the corner of where I live, so I took a stroll here to try it out. Since my fridge froze all my eggs somehow lmao. This is my breakfast/dinner. The service is great, my waitress just knows how to read the room, ask, and provide info. The Nasi Padang, was a curry based plate with two types of meat, shredded beef and chicken, two different curry flavors. One was sweet and the other was tangy which was different. The fish although was fried perfectly, very crispy, but the dish was completely ruined due to the extreme saltiness. Today, we had pastel, lemper and soto medan from their weekend menu, and Tofu hotpot. The Tofu hotpot is always a 10/10. It has a slight kick to it, but not too spicy and the thick broth goes very well with rice. It has abundant chicken, shrimp, tofu and other veggies too that definitely fills you up. One of the few if not the only authentic Indonesian places in town and this place does not disappoint. The rendang was spot on with flavor and tenderness. The kwetiau goreng was a bit sweet for my taste but nonetheless delicious. The ikan goreng, fried fish, could've used a bit more seasoning but still good. I was browsing around on Yelp yesterday, as I too often do (Lol!), and Twin Panda caught my eye because, at first, I read it as Twin Peaks, and I used to love that show! Anyway, the reviews look great, and Indonesian food is something that Hubby and I have never tried before, so we're headed there for lunch today. I will report back... We just walked in, and this place is cute and homey! They have a super-sized area of packaged snacks like taro chips, banana crisps, rice cakes, and other Indonesian faves, I'm presuming! (We're buying a few things to take home. Why not? ) When we sat down, they gave us these DELICIOUS crispy bits with sweet and sour sauce that we demolished! I opted to go the Chinese route with the Cashew Chicken combo with a pork egg roll, white rice, and Wonton Soup! Chris dove into the deep end of Indonesia with the Kari Kambing (Lamb Curry) which I applaud! He has just added Nasi Padang as a second lunch choice for him, since the delightful lady who took our order is Indonesian, and she said that this was one of the most popular dishes over there! This, I further applaud! What did we think of it all? Cashew Chicken combo with a pork egg roll, white rice, and Wonton Soup: The soup came out first, and it was piping hot! Perfect for this cold weather! The wontons are meaty and excellent. This soup is what you want when you're feeling a bit under the weather and needing a warm hug, for sure! The broth, y'all! Bright, clean, and so dang yum! The Cashew Chicken is the best that I've had in a seriously loooooong while! Plenty of cashews, tender chicken, and a dark and delicious sauce base! I'm a happy camper who would most happily reorder this! Kari Kambing (Lamb Curry): This just came out, and Chris is in love! He calls it a definite reorder, and he destroyed it in no time! He says to be very careful with the spice paste that comes with the lime on the side plate with the rice. His mouth is en fuego , but he keeps adding it, so he's about all that spice! He loves this one! Nasi Padang: He opted for the beef rendang on this one, and he said that you could cut it with a spoon! It's clearly been cooking for hours. Very reminiscent of pot roast with savory Indonesian flavors. The spicy egg on it has almost a sweet and sour vibe, and it's a perfect combination with the beef rendang! It also has a delicious vegetable curry on the plate! Another reorder for him! Bottom line, this place is LEGIT good, and absolutely worthy of the Yelp praise! Such a killer find, y'all! I am sure the Chinese food here is fine, but we like to come and explore their Indonesian menu. I can't say I've had anything that I didn't like. This time we tried the soto betawi beef soup and the smashed chicken. We also enjoyed the Tempeh appetizer. My son enjoyed the soda gembira drink. Some concoction of flavored syrup, sweetened condensed milk and soda water. Many more options to come back and try. There are lots of people waiting four to go orders. Austin does not have much of an Indonesian food scene if at all, so Twin Panda really is a hidden gem. It's a small family owned restaurant that I am happy to support. Service is very friendly. They even sell a few Indonesian snacks in the restaurant. Sure, they have your typical Americanized-Chinese food, but if you truly want the best of what they can offer, order off of their Indonesian menu. Lots of great options, especially for non-meat eaters. I tried the tofu and broccoli combo and substituted fried rice. The combo also came with hot and sour soup, veggie roll, and a soda. Also, I tried the bihon with tofu. I wanted to try a little of everything so I also got a side of edamame. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal! It was tasty and very filling. The Bihon was very delicious, I'm a big noodle dish person so I enjoyed it a lot. Heard about this place from my Indonesian friends. They hyped it up a bit so I thought I'd be disappointed. Well, they were not wrong!! This review focuses on this restaurant's Indonesian dishes. They have regular Chinese food and a separate menu for Indonesian dishes. On the Indonesian menu, it says to ask for weekend specials, but when I asked them, they told me they're not doing it anymore. So I waited until after my second visit to write this review, and after today, I think they deserve full marks based on service and food. Service is fast and very friendly, and it's not just to the people who speak Indonesian. Inside the restaurant is very casual; nothing fancy there. Their food, however, is amazing!! I dunno what they put in their dishes but I want more of those (most likely spices). Between two visits, I'd ordered 4 of their Indonesian dishes, and none of them disappoint. Their Nasi Padang has a variety of toppings (pro tip: get it with beef Rendang) that all taste really good. I also tried their Ayam Penyet, which basically fried chicken (not breaded) served with rice, fried tofu, fried tempeh and Sayur Asem!!. Soto Betawi is beef soup cooked with coconut milk, and their bihon goreng is something I haven't found anywhere else. Other than Nasi Padang, they served the chili on the side; Nasi Padang is spicy. They also give you some fried dumpling skins with sweet sauce as appetizer. The dumpling skin has a very unique taste that pairs really well with the sauce. Honestly, all of their food taste very interesting (in a good way!!), and their portion is also generous in my opinion. Other reviewers also mentioned the small store in the back. They have a variety of things you can buy, but they're mostly snacks and food items. You can just take them to the table, and let them know what you get when you pay for your meal (there's no separate checkout). I tried some of the crackers (the white curly one and tempeh chips), and they're so good!! I'll definitely try to get some more things from the store, but after the meal, I was usually very full. I live only a short drive away, but the reason this is one of my family's favorite Chinese/Indonesian eateries is the quality of the food. Would I recommend this place? Ummmmm YES, YES, and one more YES just to be dramatic. There aren't enough adjectives in Webster's dictionary to describe this place. The owner is from Indonesia, so it's authentic. There is a Chinese menu, but we only ordered from the Indo menu. As you can see from the pictures, my wife bought and ordered almost everything on the menu (insert laughing emoji). We ordered the nasi padang, sop asem, mie ayam, pempek, sate ayam, and the ayam penyet. Everything was delicious! I wish I could tell you one dish was better than the other but I can't. The rendang was juicy and the coconut flavor was not overbearing. The chicken was moist and the fond (crispies) from the chicken mixed with the white rice are dynamite. We had to walk away from our "GoTo" Asian restaurant as they were so, so, busy. Started searching again thru "Yelp" and found this little jewel close by. "Twin Panda" is a very nice little eatery off of Palmer, just North of Interstate 45. It's not a "hole in the wall" as co-owner Zack describes it. I had the pleasure of meeting a young lady (I forgot her name) and she recommended some dishes to try. I did notice they had a lunch special menu which had Chinese food entrees and then there was also their Indonesian Daily Menu...which is what I ordered from. I never had Indonesian food before so I was pretty excited! I got there when it first opened so the wait time was 30 minutes to get my food, but it was worth the wait. My fav dishes was definitely the Ikan Goreng (deep fried tilapia) and the Bihon Goreng yumm!
