I feel like there aren't too many Indonesian spots in Austin, so I was very excited to get some here! We came on a Thursday evening and surprisingly it was super empty inside. But we saw a lot of takeout orders going out, so seems like this isn't necessarily a place people eat out at. I really loved the free appetizer of fried wonton wrappers (?) idrk what it was with sweet and sour sauce. It wasn't too oily, and it was really light and crispy, and addicting. We also got Honey walnut shrimp - one of my fave dishes in general, but it came with a good amount of shrimp that was cooked really well too. The walnuts were candied and delicious, and I really liked the crispy stuff it was sitting on. Only thing is I wish it came with more broccoli. Nasi goreng - the server warned us this dish was pretty spicy, but it wasn't too bad! It was spicy enough that I was glad I had water with me at the table, but not too spicy that I needed to have water. But the egg was cooked perfectly. The rice was a little on the drier side, but they also give a lot of toppings alongside the rice, which I liked.
I forgot the name of the dish I got but it was off of the Indonesian menu. They had many items I had never seen before and a few sounded really tasty. If you're feeling adventurous, I'd recommend coming here for sure. The dish I got had some tender beef, jackfruit curry, a fried boiled egg, and some rice. The food tasted just ok but the portion sizes were very big. I'd come back and try one of their Chinese dishes; they have a big menu for that too!
I ordered bihun goreng, kwetiau goreng and nasi padang to go. Very friendly over the phone. Food was ready very quickly. Both noodles tasted great. The rice was also good but for me it was a little too much ... chicken and egg and beef.. i wanted more veggies..growing up in malaysia we never ate like this. But I will say it was value for the amount of meat. Next time I want to go in and order each dish separately and eat it with rice. Would 100% go back again to try more.
Small lil join off of parmer around the corner of where I live, so I took a stroll here to try it out. Since my fridge froze all my eggs somehow lmao. This is my breakfast/dinner. The service is great, my waitress just knows how to read the room, ask, and provide info. I was looking at the menu for a while that she came up to me and help explain certain dishes and fan favs or her personal favorites which helped a lot! She's very kind and sweet. It's a quiet little place, but it's quick to fill up. I sat in the right hand corner which is tucked off. I like my spot cause I felt like I was in a noir vibe. So here's a quick lil announcement though. The wait for the apps was short, but the wait for my main dish was 15-20 minutes I don't think my wait is Normally that long but just a heads up. This is the cost of cheap but great quality food. For the appetizers I got the spicy shrimp and the steam chicken dumplings. They both came out really hot so be careful lol. Man the spicy shrimp was very delicious and spicy! But not too spicy for me because I'm use to it but if you're not a spicy veteran this does have a good kick. I loved the sauce and the lettuce, which i used pieces of it to scoop and eat my shrimp in whole. This is a 5/5 recommend The dumplings came out in a pair for like 4-5 dollars I think. It was very hot and soft. The only thing tho was that the meat inside the dumpling was a lil dry compared to a lot of Asian restaurants I've tried BUT it tasted good and was flavor. 4/5. I got the Ox tail Beef broth soup and the Nasi Padang. The ox tail was very good, it has its spices but it's a simple soup with the meat, the potatoes and chopped up tomatoes all thrown into the bowl, with wontons. I used the side chili they gave me, lime into the soup. It was so much to eat for me including the rice with the bowl. Of soup was a lot. Because it was ox the price was a bit high so like 19 which is reasonable. The broth was great, it's simple yet very delectable. The Nasi Padang, was a curry based plate with two types of meat, shredded beef and chicken, two different curry flavors. One was sweet and the other was tangy which was different. It wasn't my favorite but the ox tail definitely beat it. Overall this place was really good and something yall should doif you wanna eat out on budget but good.
I was so excited to try this spot because of the good reviews but left feeling so disappointed with the taste/quality of the food. The fish although was fried perfectly, very crispy, but the dish was completely ruined due to the extreme saltiness. My tongue was so numb from the salt I couldn't even eat the skin which was my favorite part... The beef rendang was also way too salty. The best thing about this dish was the egg and vegetables were decent. The soup on the side was quite the opposite, way too sweet. Almost tasted like a dessert.
The best Indonesian & Chinese fusion restaurant in town! I come here quite frequently for some comfort food and it never disappoints me. Today, we had pastel, lemper and soto medan from their weekend menu, and Tofu hotpot. The Tofu hotpot is always a 10/10. It has a slight kick to it, but not too spicy and the thick broth goes very well with rice. It has abundant chicken, shrimp, tofu and other veggies too that definitely fills you up. Their weekend special menu changes every week, but the app/snack options don't really vary much by each week, so if you happen to be here on the weekend, I highly recommend the pastel and lemper. They are small, simple but very tasty.
I was browsing around on Yelp yesterday, as I too often do (Lol!), and Twin Panda caught my eye because, at first, I read it as Twin Peaks, and I used to love that show! Anyway, the reviews look great, and Indonesian food is something that Hubby and I have never tried before, so we're headed there for lunch today. I will report back... We just walked in, and this place is cute and homey! They have a super-sized area of packaged snacks like taro chips, banana crisps, rice cakes, and other Indonesian faves, I'm presuming! (We're buying a few things to take home. Why not? ) When we sat down, they gave us these DELICIOUS crispy bits with sweet and sour sauce that we demolished! I opted to go the Chinese route with the Cashew Chicken combo with a pork egg roll, white rice, and Wonton Soup! Chris dove into the deep end of Indonesia with the Kari Kambing (Lamb Curry) which I applaud! He has just added Nasi Padang as a second lunch choice for him, since the delightful lady who took our order is Indonesian, and she said that this was one of the most popular dishes over there! This, I further applaud! What did we think of it all? Cashew Chicken combo with a pork egg roll, white rice, and Wonton Soup: The soup came out first, and it was piping hot! Perfect for this cold weather! The wontons are meaty and excellent. This soup is what you want when you're feeling a bit under the weather and needing a warm hug, for sure! The broth, y'all! Bright, clean, and so dang yum! The Cashew Chicken is the best that I've had in a seriously loooooong while! Plenty of cashews, tender chicken, and a dark and delicious sauce base! I'm a happy camper who would most happily reorder this! Kari Kambing (Lamb Curry): This just came out, and Chris is in love! He calls it a definite reorder, and he destroyed it in no time! He says to be very careful with the spice paste that comes with the lime on the side plate with the rice. His mouth is en fuego , but he keeps adding it, so he's about all that spice! He loves this one! Nasi Padang: He opted for the beef rendang on this one, and he said that you could cut it with a spoon! It's clearly been cooking for hours. Very reminiscent of pot roast with savory Indonesian flavors. The spicy egg on it has almost a sweet and sour vibe, and it's a perfect combination with the beef rendang! It also has a delicious vegetable curry on the plate! Another reorder for him! Bottom line, this place is LEGIT good, and absolutely worthy of the Yelp praise! Such a killer find, y'all! FYI, they have a surprisingly good beer list and wine on the menu, which we would have partaken in, if this weren't a quick lunch! Thanks so much, Twin Panda! And welcome to our regular restaurant rotation!
I am sure the Chinese food here is fine, but we like to come and explore their Indonesian menu. I can't say I've had anything that I didn't like. This time we tried the soto betawi beef soup and the smashed chicken. We also enjoyed the Tempeh appetizer. My son enjoyed the soda gembira drink. Some concoction of flavored syrup, sweetened condensed milk and soda water. Many more options to come back and try. There are lots of people waiting four to go orders. But there is plenty of seating in the dining room. They also have a small Indonesian, grocery selection, if you are feeling adventurous and want to take something home.
One of the few if not the only authentic Indonesian places in town and this place does not disappoint. The rendang was spot on with flavor and tenderness. The kwetiau goreng was a bit sweet for my taste but nonetheless delicious. The ikan goreng, fried fish, could've used a bit more seasoning but still good. Star of the show may have to be the side condiment chili sauce, our jar was almost empty by the time we left. Not too spicy and so flavorful. Dining area is very clean, prices are fair and the servers were attentive and very pleasant. A real gem for Southeast Asian food in Austin.
The staff was extremely friendly, restaurant is small but clean. On Mondays they offer lunch specials all day with the purchase of a beverage. We ordered an iced tea and a green tea. The green tea was in a box, that's fine, but they didn't even bring or offer a glass to pour it in, and we were dining in. The portions were big, especially considering this was the lunch portion. But the food itself was just ok. Very salty. Probably won't revisit.
Austin does not have much of an Indonesian food scene if at all, so Twin Panda really is a hidden gem. It's a small family owned restaurant that I am happy to support. Service is very friendly. They even sell a few Indonesian snacks in the restaurant. Sure, they have your typical Americanized-Chinese food, but if you truly want the best of what they can offer, order off of their Indonesian menu. I recommend getting a taste of their Mie Tek Tek Goreng, Nasi Goreng Ikan Asin, or the Nasi Padang! All of their Indonesian dishes are authentic, delicious, and comforting.
I was recommended to go to Twin Panda from an Austin group I am in.So I was very excited to try! I was able to order my food online and come in to pick up. I think they may also offer delivery. Lots of great options, especially for non-meat eaters. I tried the tofu and broccoli combo and substituted fried rice. The combo also came with hot and sour soup, veggie roll, and a soda. Also, I tried the bihon with tofu. I wanted to try a little of everything so I also got a side of edamame. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal! It was tasty and very filling. The Bihon was very delicious, I'm a big noodle dish person so I enjoyed it a lot. I wish you could add a sauce to the tofu and broccoli, it does have added flavoring from the broth or oil it's cooked in but there is no additional sauce with this dish so I added my own. The fried rice was just okay, not much flavor on its own. This was a great local restaurant to try. Good portion sizes with friendly and fast service!
The Indonesian food is absolutely delicious here. I just discovered Indonesian food last year through some friends in Austin and they have introduced me to this fabulous restaurant. Unassuming on the outside but offering fabulous food within! A must try!!

I just moved to Austin and am so happy that I found an Indonesian restaurant here. I grew up in Indonesia and can only go there every year so having a good Indonesian food option in the city is awesome. The menu is pretty limited, however I enjoyed everything I had so far. The nasi padang is really solid (I've eaten it 5 times within a month - ok I'm crazy) and the bakmi ayam is hearty and delicious. The gado-gado is a great option for vegetarians, altho I wish it includes some tempeh goreng like how it's usually served back in Indonesia. Everyone I interacted with in the restaurant has been extremely friendly. Oh, they also start selling some grocery items in the restaurant. I was able to take a screenshot of the list. Definitely will buy some stuff from that list next time! read more
I was craving Padang cuisine that I had in Jakarta and Yelp led me here. They have a small Indonesian menu from which we ordered Nasi Padang with beef rendang (slow-cooked meat in coconut milk and spices). The food did not disappoint. It had all the flavors my tastebuds were looking for. I will definitely come back to try the remaining items on the Indonesian menu! As far as I know, Twin Panda is the only place in Austin where you can get good Indonesian food so wishing them all the luck to make it through this pandemic! read more

I rarely find good Indonesian food when I travel. Twin Panda is the ultimate Indonesian culinary delight in Texas, and it brought me back to all of the home cooked meals I had growing up in Jakarta. The nasi padang explodes with authentic flavors, while the sop asem offers a tantalizing sour note. The mie ayam boasts tender chicken and savory broth, while the pempek presents a crispy and aromatic sensation. The sate ayam delivers a perfect balance of spices, and the ayam penyet steals the show with its succulent and perfectly seasoned goodness. Each dish is a testament to Twin Panda's dedication to authenticity and deliciousness. I can't wait go back tomorrow. read more

My very first time trying out Indonesian food. It was a great experience. Recommend getting there early before noon time because that place get packed and quite noisy. It's so cute how they have a display of all kind of snacks that you can purchase from Indonesia. The appetizer snacks were my absolute favorite. They recommend that you order a day ahead of time to have there to eat and for togos for those ones. Everything had flavorful spices. Recommend checking out this place if you are in Austin Texas. read more

Heard from a friend that this place had really good Chinese food, but when we arrived the waitress gave us two menus; one for Chinese food and one for Indonesian specialties. We decided to try the Indonesian food because she seemed very excited to recommend dishes. We were pleasantly surprised to start the night with crisp wonton wrapper and sweet and sour dip as a free appetizer. I chose a fried chicken entree and my husband chose a fried fish dish which the waitress said was her favorite thing on the menu. Both came with rice and soup. The chicken was extremely fragrant and though the breading was different from the fried chicken you'd usually expect it was delicious and juicy on the inside! My husband was surprised by the bones inside of the fish though I'm not sure what he was expecting from a fish from an asian restaurant haha. Would go again! read more

I've been meaning to write a review in here and things have gotten in the way but today is the day! One of my favorite restaurants and so close to my apartment, but this is not the main reason I like to order from them. 1- The portions are always great and plenty even when ordering online. 2- Attention to detail is a must for me and they have never missed out on anything. Well, just one time out of the many orders I've placed, but it was also when all the craziness with Covid-19 had started. Besides this one time I've never had anything to complain about. 3- The food is delicious! My favorite recommendations are the wonton soup, not too salty, and wontons so yummy. Another favorite is their Lo Mein, I order mine with shrimp and it comes with plenty of them (my mouth is watering already! Lol!). Don't forget the appetizers! Their crab puffs are a must, so delicious! Their Kwetiau is also another yummy dish! 4- Last but not least is their customer service. Always friendly with attention to detail even more during these difficult times with Covid-19. I can see they're most careful and caring with the orders and cleanness. Highly recommend it if you're around or can't decide what to order online :D read more

Amazing food! We opted for the Indonesian menu & tried a variety of dishes. My favorite would be the Nasi Padang (rice with spicy egg, veg curry and your option of either chicken curry or beef rendang). It was every bit delicious, even the small dollop of sambal (chilli sauce) they put on the plate was great! Their pempek (fishcake in vinegar) was delish, but portion wise it may not make you full. Kwetiau (flat noodle) was amazing, but tempe bacem was just okay. Both mie tektek and bakmie ayam were great but had a lot of black pepper, just fyi. This is my new go to spot in Austin. Forget BBQ and sushi, from now on I'm getting Indonesian food the next time I'm in town! Lol. read more

Terimah Kasih! My belly and taste buds are soooooo happy! I just discovered this little gem. One bite and I had to call my mom to tell her how good it is. Brought me back to my happiest days of when I lived in Ubud, Bali. I close my eyes and can imagine pulling over on my motorbike to buy lunch from a sweet Balinese woman. She walks over and cuts off a banana leaf, packs it with rice, gadogado, and my favorite, beef rendang. A quick swig of ice-cold Bali Hai beer. She teaches me to pinch a little rice and gado with my fingers... pure bliss. I will never be the same I can't wait to come back. read more

NW Austin is blessed to have Twin Panda! I love that I can get Indonesian food in a place so close to the suburbs. It seems like a very rare cuisine to find, even when I was in Houston, which is already a great epicenter for quality restaurants of diverse cuisines, especially those of the Asian variety. I came for my first visit around 7 pm, about two hours before closing. Several cars were coming and going in its small but sufficient parking lot. A hard working young man was frequently running in and out of the shop in the evening summer heat as he delivered orders to cars. After much contemplation on the menu, I attempted to call Twin Panda to order since there was a sign that clearly said you could only order online or call, but the phone was busy. This seems to me like it is a very small and busy restaurant! After several minutes, he saw me waiting to order and promised earnestly that he would return to take my order as soon as he finished curbside-delivering the next order. Not wanting to trouble him, I gestured to their sign and said I could simply order online. After he confirmed that I wanted Indonesian food, he informed me that the Indonesian menu was in fact, not available to order online. This is an important fact to know upfront! As I was new to trying Indonesian cuisine, the server helped me choose a dish. His personal favorite was the ayam penyet, but he noted that many people order soto betawi. Gado gado was also popular, but it doesn't have meat, he said. Intrigued by the inclusion of turmeric in ayam penyet, I decided to go forward with that. Wait time was about 20 minutes. I examined the menus further as I waited and found that there were also Indonesian groceries being sold here! Pretty neat. The food itself was well packaged and arranged and smelled delicious. It was also a pretty good portion for the money. I couldn't finish it all by myself! And the crunchy texture of ayan penyet was delightful, the flavor clean and delicious without being overwhelming. You can pour the crumbs over the rice and can dip anything into the sweet chili sauce. All in all, I had a great experience with Twin Panda and will definitely try it again. Its unique, quality food and diligent service make it difficult to pass up! Would recommend. :-) read more

One of favorite places thus far in and around Austin, mostly since it's the closest to the type of home cooked food I was raised on that I'm not cooking for myself. This review is mostly for items on the Indonesian menu. Yes, there are two menus, and you may need to ask for the Indonesian one when seated. Food: Pork egg rolls are legit. One per order, so order accordingly. Mie Tek Tek Goreng is a fried noodle, akin to the chow mein you'll find in Chinese American restaurants, but this is SO much better. Nasi Padang with beef rendang (dry beef curry), or gulai chicken (chicken curry) is a must. It's served on white rice with an artichoke and green bean curry chutney, a hard boiled egg with a spicy sauce, and some sliced cucumbers. On occasion they'll have specials, like the chicken satay. Service: We mostly get meals to go, and at peak times, you may need to keep calling to get through to order. I believe they have online ordering too, and delivery to nearby areas, but I've not given that a go. Otherwise, staff are friendly and the wait is usually about 20 minutes for a to-go order called in. Cost: Two pork egg rolls, two nasi padangs, one mie tek tek with chicken ran us $39 after tax. Overall: Sure, they have good Chinese food too. But the Indonesian food is the winner here. Parking right outside, takes cards, and open daily! read more
Tucked away from central Austin is Twin Panda. They serve a regular Chinese menu, but what stands out is their daily selection of Indonesian food that is on a separate menu. We started with the Pempek-A deep fried fish cake in a vinegar sauce on top of Delicious noodles. Tasty and Spicy! We also enjoyed: the Soto Betawi a coconut soup with potato and tomato popular in Jakarta; the Ayam Kalasan-baked marinated chicken served over steam rice was delicious; and the Nasi Padang-An dish of Rendang Beef with vegetables, egg, cucumber on steamed rice. We left full and satisfied and only wish this restaurant was in our home state! I highly recommend Twin Panda for its tasty and authentic Indonesian food that does not disappoint! read more

Just ordered take out from here and it was really good! They had my favorite salt and pepper chicken. The meat was so delicious not greasy or oily or full of batter. The onions and jalapeños were sautéed perfectly to give it such a great flavor. I also ordered fried pork dumplings and those were also good, the egg drop soup had a great flavor without being over powered by anything just a nice simple broth. The people inside were very friendly and polite. We will be back for sure :) thank you read more

My family of 8 came here during our visit to Austin and loved the food! We're from LA and have tried a handful of Indonesian restaurants there, but felt like some of the dishes here were far better. We only ordered from the Indonesian menu. My personal favorites were the Ayam Kalasan, which was sweet and tender, and the Nasi Padang, which is exactly how beef rendang should taste. I wasn't a huge fan of the Ikan Masak Cabe because it was more of a sweet tangy sauce, rather than a spicy sambal taste. Everyone else enjoyed the bihun goreng, pempek, sup buntut, mie tek tek. I felt like the mie tek tek tasted too much like the chow mein from panda express lol, was not a fan. -1 Star because the service was SO SLOW. It took forever for each dish to come out. read more
