Spicy House could be our new neighborhood gem when it comes to Asian / sichuan resto. They offer specialty dishes that we don't typically find in a typical Chinese restaurant ( I won't name names). There are so many dishes we wanted to try but today, half of the family didn't feel too well and I was craving for spicy and sour fish soup so we opted for a hearty braised pork trotter soup and the Sour snakehead Fish Soup. Spicy house did not disappoint. Got to meet the kind owner and her daughter when we dined here today. Very kind snd hard working family. The owner says the Braised Trotter soup is cooked for 4+ hours and you can really tell. It was hearty and flavorful and not at all oily! My sick son and husband enjoyed it very much and really helped them feel better after. I really enjoyed the sour fish soup. Has good amount of spice in a sour-y soup broth, generous fish slices and a bunch of veggies including mushrooms and clear potato noodles on the bottom of the huge bowl. Served with rice as well. I'm really satisfied with this dish and happy I don't need do my drive to Austin when I crave for Sichuan Mala spicy food anymore. read more

Got take out from the newest addition to the Sichuan food scene in Austin and was very impressed. They don't skimp on the takeout orders and came out on time and piping hot. We got the boiled beef in hot oil and it was excellent - silky beef that has earthy, cumin heavy flavor profile that packs smoky chili oil heat. It's a volcano and on the spicier side for this dish amongst other variants that I've tried in Austin, but perfect on a cold day. Got some vegetables nestled in their too. My pro tip for these types of dishes is to make sure you take your leftovers to go as you can easily reheat and add some protein at home and basically double the dish. The tofu pudding and fish is also excellent - lightly breaded fish that soaks up spicy sauce as well. Milder on the heat (but still packs a punch) but goes well with plain rice. Speaking of which, we went through Doordash for our pickup, which only lets you get the option of fried rice with an upcharge, which initially I wasn't thrilled about, but the egg fried rice is actually very good. Simple, plenty of wok hei and seasoned aggressively, the rice is a masterclass in what simplicity should taste like. All in all, glad its open and glad it's nearby! read more

Came back for another dinner and had another delicious meal. Seated immediately in the spacious dining room, and food came out fast after we ordered on the iPad. This time we tried the chicken with broccoli and the pork soup dumplings, in addition to past favorites, like the beef lo mein, and a choy with garlic. This was my fourth visit to Spicy House, and at this point it's safe to say they've never missed. Every dish we ordered tonight was consistently flavorful, fresh, and exactly what I expect from good Sichuan cooking. The Mapo Tofu was silky and spicy, it does need a little more flavor. The Chengdu Hot Spicy Beef came out tender and soaked in a rich, aromatic broth layered with spices, garlic, and herbs. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp was crisp, fragrant, and perfectly seasoned -- light batter, great texture. The Pork with Bamboo was simple in the best way: tender slices of pork, crunchy bamboo shoots. After four visits, Spicy House continues to deliver reliable, delicious dishes every time. It's become one of my go‑to spots in Austin for satisfying Sichuan food, and I'll definitely be back again to keep exploring the menu. read more

I really enjoyed the food from here. Everything was very fresh. The only issue that we had is that it took a while to be ready but it was worth the wait. They give you pretty generous portions. We are visiting from out of town and decided to eat here based on the reviews. We ordered water because we've been living off of sodas and were served lukewarm water, no ice, only halfway full. We did not get refills. The food was good. The service was non-existent. You order your own food from a tablet, which was fine, especially if there was a way for us to get our own drinks. When we went to pay we were charged 20% service charge for a party of five when we didn't have a server or anyone check on us even once. Expensive and frustrating. read more

Unfortunately the high reviews are very out of touch with our experience so I feel the need to write a review to warn others not to trust the reviews. We didn't enjoy any of the dishes we ordered - the meat quality wasn't up to our standards, and flavor was lacking compared to the amount of greasiness of our meals. The atmosphere is also odd...completely quiet/no music, so loud conversations/shouting from the kitchen were the only thing we could hear. Our waiter was friendly, but we won't be back. read more

I chose this place because of Yelp rating and reviews. Looked like the place just opened because of entrance interior and banner outside. We walked in and there wasn't anyone at the hostess stand. There was a self order stand to order but a lady came over and sat us. She then handed us tablets to order from. She also helped us because there were a few vegetables my grandson did not want in his fried rice. I ate egg drop soup and vegetable spring rolls which were very good. I ordered food to go. My picky daughter wanted chicken fried rice with no vegetables. They were able to accommodate that and she absolutely loved it. It was delicious. I ordered broccoli, beef, and that was very good as well. I ordered the pork dumplings, which were honestly not my favorite. The dumplings were fine but the sauce that went with it was not good at all. Overall, I definitely recommend this place. Just maybe not the pork dumplings. My wife and I lived in Taiwan, so we are particular about Chinese food. The first time that we came, we were disappointed. Everything was under seasoned. We came again and told the staff that we like it spicy. We got a pork dish and Mapo Tofu, both were spicy and excellent. Both times we went we were one of two tables. I hope they make it. I am not a spicy food eating girl so I was a little worried because this is literally in their name!! But they will make your food with no spice. We have been here twice in one week. We get the egg drop soup (amazing and no one does this better), scallion pancakes (not greasy, like everyone else), spicy garlic chicken, and we add broccoli and make it not spicy, fried rice with chicken, and cold noodles (not spicy). My husband and I wanted to give this place a second chance. The last time we went it had a red flag on the entry, so we walked away. We sit at the bar, presented with a tablet, not a menu. We ask for Sake and a draft beer. The waitress speaks zero English. Gives us a paper menu. The only Sake is an entire bottle. The prices start at $55! We try to explain we just want a small We ask how much, no answer. Meanwhile, a draft beer is being spilled everywhere. A mug gets served to my husband. A waitress asks if I want a cold glass for my beet, I say yes as they gave me a warm bottle of beer. I never get a cold glass, but my husband's beer gets taken back. After 5 minutes of confusion, he asks if there was something wrong with the beer. Keep in mind, these two dolls, just took the beer. They never said why, never offered anything else. Then, after endless Sake conversations, a shot was pored in a wine glass warm. We were never offered water. We get served our food and got food poisoning! As expected, the beer that never got drank was on the bill. That took another 10min to try to explain we didn't owe it as he never took a sip. They obviously don't luke white people or our $.
