Tried Saigon Cafe for the first time based on a friend's recommendation. It's a small, cozy, family-run restaurant with a really warm and welcoming feel. I tried Mama's Tom Yum noodles--they were decent, but I was hoping for a bit more flavor. We also ordered the cashew curry, and I really appreciated that they were flexible with dietary needs. Since I'm vegetarian, they served the chicken on the side so my friend and I could both enjoy it. Overall, a solid experience. We ordered Pho and Vietnamese egg rolls for delivery. Note they only offer ChowNow for delivery. The pho is good, but average. Egg rolls were nothing special, if not a little salty. Btw we've eaten other food here, dining in, and found it to be pretty good on average. But the delivery was terrible! Delivery was estimated at an hour, took and hour and 10 min. I had to pay a delivery fee, which was brokered through door dash. I HAVE A DOOR DASH SUBSCRIPTION! Because it took so long, all of our food was cold and had to be reheated. There's lots of choices for food and delivery - no reason for me to order from restaurants that only use ChowNow. Sadly, this restaurant is off the beaten trail and should be doing what they can to keep/get customers. ChowNow just ruined it for me. read more

Way way way overdue review! Been coming here since the very beginning years ago...and continue to frequently dine-in & get takeout (can order online now, yay!). Love the variety of the menu. Some favorites include Xoi Ga (mmm, simple yet wonderful!), "special" Vietnamese egg rolls [that I can't seem to find on the actual menu, but they know what I like], and of course any offerings of Pho. We came in from Houston to stay and passed this place. Growing up with Thai food as a staple means it's hard to find good comfort food. At first we were gonna take our food to go but the staff was incredibly welcoming and we decided to slow down and stay. I'm so glad we did. The service was wonderful. The food. Oh god the food!! Spring rolls and dumplings came out and were divine. We both ordered the num tok. When I say this is one of the best num toks we've had in probably ten years. We went with high expectations because of all the positive reviews, so was disappointed, food was good, but not something you wanna go back again, especially if you live far!! We went for a long drive and decided to try SC, because of all the reviews, we got seated as soon we entered, just one family were dining in, the place itself is underwhelming, chairs are dirty and it's so dim and unappealing. We ordered green curry, pad kee mao and Vietnamese Coffee. Green curry was good, I asked them not to add eggplants, and oh boy, they had added so much veggie, especially green beans, it was more than half of curry and it's absolutely raw, curry itself was good. Pad kee mao: it says spicy on menu and my husband requested extra spicy but still it was on sweeter side. Vietnamese Coffee: this was very good, but the phin, glass, everything need a good wash badly:(( I think they're more popular for there pho, so I don't recommend for Thai dishes, but maybe give it a try for pho!! read more

Small place tucked away on Hudson Bend. The food here is simple and delicious. A very nice place for a great meal in Lakeway. We had the Saigon curry and the Charcoal pork with egg roll during lunch. Portions were huge. Big bowls of vermicelli with vegetables and meat. The food was well prepared and full of Vietnamese flavors. We really enjoyed this and will be back. I'm not sure what happened here, but this wasn't what we expected. It was actually quite bad and I hate to say that about a family restaurant -- maybe there was a different cook or something? We ordered the egg rolls as an appetizer-- $12 for 8 of them. When they came out, they were both tiny and skinny -- like barely pinky size. On top of that, several were busted and burnt. Like crunchy black burnt insides and all. Honestly, I'm not sure how a chef would serve that because I'd consider something burnt like that a definite throw away batch. And the itty bitty size -- wow. Luckily, I snapped a picture or else I wouldn't believe myself and think I was exaggerating -- but look at the egg roll size compared to the mint or cilantro leaves or carrot slivers. No one should ever try to pass these skinny fingerling things off as egg rolls. Based on the appetizer, I prepared myself for what the main dishes might be. Sadly, I was correct to expect the worst. The pad thai dish was laughable. It was a weird icky I don't know what flavor pink orangish sauce. The lighting doesn't show well in the picture, but think strawberry/orange Starbust colored chicken. And to top that off, there was hardly any noodles. Whatever it was, it should not have been called pad thai in taste or look. Again, I would think I had to be exaggerating at how bad it was -- but after our experience, I came back to read the Yelp reviews and saw someone had the same gross pad thai experience as us. Whoever made this doesn't know what pad thai is supposed to taste like. It was really, really, really, really bad. One of us had the pho, and said that was good. We also had a beef dish -- nam thok-- and it was passable but very little meat. Most of it was onions and herbs. Given it was a $15(ish) beef dish, I expected more than that little bit of beef. The table behind us asked for soy sauce, and the man at the counter grabbed the soy sauce bottle from our table, saying he needed to borrow it. By now, it was actually laughable -- like a comedy skit of a horrible restaurant experience. Service overall wasn't good or bad -- the young man tried and he should have had help when more people came in. (To add to the comedy factor, one of the people behind us was telling his dining companion this was his regular place and how great the food was here.) We had come to this place because we were in that part of town and hungry. While searching for Vietnamese food, one of our party had seen the 4.5 plus star rating. That rating surprised the heck out of me because we had the exact opposite experience. We definitely won't be going back and regret that we ended up there. I'm pretty bummed it was such an appallingly bad experience -- I was really craving good Vietnamese and Thai food. To sum it up, if you end up there, stick to the pho or pray there's a different cook in back when you're there. For me, it was a $70 bust and I left sorely disappointed and still hungry. read more

TLDR: Delicious, definitely a hidden gem. The restaurant is hidden away off the main road so its not obvious if you're just traveling along 620. But, if you want some really great Vietnamese food you have to try it. I got the Saigon Curry Bowl today and it has this warmth (even though its a really hot day) that is just wonderful. A little lingering, full of flavor and it makes me wish I had some more. Plus it held up well going back to the house to eat. Also tried some of the Tornado Chicken my wife ordered and it is great too. The scent of the sauce for both of these seemed to linger and just made us hungrier. I don't usually like to add a review so quickly but I'd definitely recommend this place as the food is great, prices aren't too bad, and I'll probably be back in the coming weeks. read more

It's tucked away, but oh so worth the drive! Small atmosphere, wonderfully kind staff, and did I mention, DELICIOUS!!! I hyped this place too much for my own good which is why I'm at a 4/5. They have a quite a few unique authentic viet dishes you can't get elsewhere, all in the middle of exactly where you wouldn't expect a viet place. This place is truly much more than just pho. Their viet egg rolls were okay, a bit too fried for my liking. The pan fried crispy rice was very good and a must try. I got the Tom yum noodle which was a bit too sour and lime-y for my taste, I much prefer the Tom yum noodle at madam Mam's, which is also much spicier. My favorite dish of the night has to be these diy lettuce rolls with bbq pork and rice noodles, a must get. Overall, this isn't a place I would drive out for again but if I'm in the area and craving asian, I'll most definitely stop by. Ordered the Lemongrass chicken with egg roll and substituted the fried rice instead of the white rice. It came with cucumbers and pickled carrots and a fish sauce to pour over everything.... it was my favorite dish, possibly ever!! The sweetness of the pickled carrots with the saltiness of the fish sauce, the fried rice deliciousness with the perfectly seasoned lemongrass chicken was so flavorful and mixed so well together! I tried the spring rolls with the fried tofu instead of the shrimp and the flavor was bland and the peanut sauce had only light/mild peanut flavor. I would not order those again. But for sure I will be back when in town for the lemongrass chicken with rice!!! read more
