This spicy green curry is made with coconut milk and lemongrass, and it comes with a side of jasmine rice. It is absolutely delicious, and the portions are generous. You know that their food is awesome when you eat it for leftovers the next day and it still tastes delicious! I ordered the Pad Thai chicken, Chicken over rice and all veggie egg rolls. The chicken is very tender and flavorful. Pad thai is not too sweet and delicious as well. The veggie egg rolls have a crazy crunch to it and tastes amazing! If you are lucky enough to find this truck and order here, DO NOT skip the veggie egg rolls! As I inhaled this food, I couldn't tell which dish was spicy, but it's just a tad and gives the meal a little kick. If you are sensitive to spiciness you might want to ask about it before you order. This little food truck is amaaaaaaazing, y'all!! I cannot recommend it enough!! At my previous employer, Blue Basil came to our office parking lot every Thursday. Without a doubt, Thursday was the day when a large percentage of the entire 4th floor would be standing outside in a long, long line, waiting to get them some yummy, yummy Blue Basil Thai food up in their mouths. My absolute favorite dish is the Thai Chicken Curry. It is a yellow curry with chicken breast and potatoes, made with coconut milk & lemongrass & some other magical ingredients that make it so insanely delicious, so smooth & silky, that it almost seems to melt in your mouth. Very generous portions. It was always enough for both lunch & dinner for me. Now get offa your phone & go get yourself some Blue Basil right this second. Enjoy!!! read more

For $12 you can get a pretty good basic pad thai. Not sure why they don't use any veggies like bean sprout, bell pepper, or cilantro but I think it's up to par for the quality you'd expect from a food truck. The people working are also pretty friendly and efficient. read more

Ordered lunch through lunchdrop today. Very rarely do I not finish a meal, a Thai meal at that, however today was that day. The chicken curry I received was bland and uninspiring, even with the fire sauce included, there was nothing saving this dish. The serving included a few potatoes,and lots of chicken but when the dish is not up to par these things matter not. The egg rolls that I received however were awesome. Bah humbug. This is not a Destination Food Truck. This is a Stuck-Out-On-360-Aint-Got-No-Other-Options Food Truck. Indifferent Thai food served in large portions. You don't have to worry about going hungry at any rate. The Bahn Mi is a good half a pound or more of Pork Steak Dipped in Yellow Curry Sauce and sauteed. It has some mild remnants of curry flavor from the drops of curry sauce left after the cooking process. Egg rolls are standard issue commercial egg rolls available from the freezers of Chinese restaurants everywhere. (Update: Since I first wrote this, management left a comment saying all the egg rolls are hand rolled and made. I believe management on this point. I don't think they taste all that different from the commercial product - but other people may disagree). The West of 360 locations are scenic the way having an office West of 360 is scenic. You get spectacular cliffside scenery or spectacular llano foliage scenery broken up by office buildings, parking garages, and strategically placed boulders on manicured lawns. Such an amazing food truck! Easily the best food we had while at COTA for the US Grand Prix. I ordered the tofu with the egg rolls and it was AMAZING! The egg rolls are probably the best I've had in my life, the perfect amount of crunch and absolutely delicious. Totally recommend adding it on for a few bucks more or getting a whole side of it! The tofu was so tasty as well (be sure to get the fish sauce!) and was a good amount of food for the money. All the sauces were amazing and added so much flavor. Nice garnish in the side as well. Chilantro and Blue Basil come by our offices weekly. And every week, that Chilantro line is crazy ridiculous. So, I don't eat it that often, but when I do, I am always flummoxed why it is so popular. I mean, it's fine; it's perfectly edible. I always get the rice bowl with tofu and egg. And every time I've ordered it, the tofu is dry and overcooked. EVERY TIME. And every time I've ordered it, Chilantro is out of lettuce. And sometimes, they're out of rice. So I am basically ordering rice, tofu nugget bowl, and soggy egg, or lettuce with tofu nuggets and soggy egg. Anyway, Blue Basil, on the other hand, hardly ever has a long line, which is a damn shame--for them. And their tofu rice bowl is REALLY good. Like, ridiculously good. Their tofu is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Their egg is well cooked. Their sticky rice is delicious. And their sauces add just the right amount of sweet and spicy. Being vegetarian, I tend to shy away from some food trucks because their menus don't always specify if they have vegan or vegetarian options, but theirs had great info online. They made it super easy to order teaming with the apartments who sent an email to the residents. I watched a guy pick his drunk girlfriend up and carry her away because her mouth was writing checks that her fists were definitely not going to be able to cash. The chicken was tasty and so was the rice. They still put some sweet tasting slaw on the side, though, but I just picked around it. I'm also pretty sure there was an egg - yeah, there was definitely an egg. Look at all this protein I am putting in my body. All this protein is gonna turn me into a brotein. Okay, now I'm just making up terrible jokes. Back to being super serious: their menu is a little smaller for SXSW and that makes me sad because apparently they usually serve spicy pho. The Blue Basil truck is parked outside of my office every Monday. I had my first banh mi here a while back, and I really enjoyed it. Along with it, I ordered some tater tots, which were really crispy and topped with a sweet soy mayo sort of sauce that was really tasty. I had the banh mi one more time there before trying it elsewhere. The first time I had the sandwich, I really enjoyed it, but it was very heavy and greasy (especially along with the fries), so I knew it'd only be something I indulged in occasionally. The second time I had it, I enjoyed it less, and it somehow tasted even greasier and heavier. Then I had "real" banh mi from baguette house, and now I could never order it here. Once I tasted what it was supposed to be like, with fresh pickle, cilantro and jalapenos, and a delicious crispy/chewy baguette, what I had here just doesn't compare, with the heavy, buttery soft bun and lack of fresh, crispy veg. It's not terrible food, but it does all seem rather heavy, and I must say, now that it's been coming here for months, the consensus on it around the office seems to be 'meh'. Definitely not bad, especially if it's in a convenient spot for you, but a lot of what they offer is probably best not eaten on lunch at work. I ordered the pork bahn mi (about a week ago) and it was delicious. I've only had that sandwich (from a different place) once before so I didn't really have very much to compare it to BUT there was no comparison! This sandwich was sooooooooooooo good! The sauce was great, the vegetables were good, the pork was very flavorful and tender. I got a fried egg on it too. Now, the egg rolls were a disappointment but the sandwich was so good, I won't really complain about those. The staff was friendly. It was an overall good experience. Are you freaking kidding me?! I almost feel this quality of food isn't being appreciated like it should be by all the drunkards of 6th Street. This food should be served on a porcelain plate by a server at a place where reservations are required. On the other hand I'm grateful it's served in a styrofoam to-go box because I've yet to finish all the food in one sitting and is an awesome surprise the next morning. I've had the chance to check out both chicken and pork dishes that are served over a bed of rice with an Asian slaw salad and a fried egg. And they serve Pho, that alone deserves an award since it's the perfect food for 2am noshing. Here's what's great about Blue Basil that other surrounding food trailers fall short on: Fast service, especially for the quality of food, I don't know how they do it but they're magicians. Friendly and appreciative staff, they really enjoy what they're doing and are happy to be sharing their great food with drunk a-holes. No-to-short lines, which is bewildering to me but may be due to the trailer being relatively new. Whatever the case might be, take advantage of it. There are few trailers in the downtown district that delivers on so many levels like Blue Basil. Do yourself a favor, drop everything you're doing, and check them out. read more

I'd put this at 3.5 stars. Overall, a tad overpriced for underwhelming flavor. What I had: Veggie Egg Rolls - these are solid egg rolls, crisp, not greasy, but not particularly memorable. At $1.25, they are over priced by at least $0.25. Pad Thai (w/ Pork) - succinctly put, it wasn't worth the price. The pork was cooked well, not too dry, flavored well enough, but again, not really memorable. However, most importantly, I did not like the pad Thai! They used very thin, round noodles, like vermicelli, instead of flat, slightly wider noodles. I'm sure it makes the dish a bit easier to eat, especially for an office lunch crowd, but it's not what I expected for pad thai. Additionally, their description of the dish states the noodles are lightly sauces, and man, they are not kidding! I think you get enough flavor to identify it as pad thai sauce, but paired with unsauced meat (which was otherwise fine), dry cabbage, and salty peanuts, it left the entire dish too dry. I personally wouldn't get this dish again. Bahn Mi - It's okay, but I wasn't a fan of the bread (it wasn't a classic French baguette but was instead a French bread roll, like for a meatball sandwich), and it had too much meat. The veggies were overpowered by three, THREE cuts of pork. The sauce was okay, though there was too little (however, that DID make the sandwich easier/cleaner to eat). It's a solid sandwich and is worth the $6 price. However, I think my curiosity was satisfied, and I don't need to try this sandwich again. read more

Had lunch from their truck in our office lot today. I ordered the potato pie. It's described as "fried, pressed potato slices with onion, pickled cabbage, and chinese sausage, topped with special mayo sauce." It's actually tater tots. It does come with all the toppings listed, and they were nice and accommodating when I asked for no sausage, but it's still tater tots. Not that I have anything against tots, I enjoy them now and again. And I suppose one could argue that "fried, pressed potato slices" is a somewhat accurate, if misleading, description of tater tots. But I like to know what I'm ordering, and I was disappointed to see that it wasn't made from fresh potatoes but from frozen tots. Anyway, they tasted ok, and they were cheap ($4.50 for a pretty big pile of tots). But they don't compare to the kimchi fries at Chilantro. read more

The spicy pho is more like a watered down beef broth with pho noodles in it, it tastes nothing like pho and it's not spicy at all. Be prepared to add copious amounts of cock sauce to it. That being said it's pho, coming from a trailer, that's open when your hammered. So yes, I would probably eat it again just for that fact. They lost stars for the poor quality meat they include with the pho. If you're using cheap meat you might as well give more of it also. It'd be nice to have more basil in my pho when I ask for it, I mean come on.. you're called blue "basil". read more
