Ordered the Lemongrass chicken with egg roll and substituted the fried rice instead of the white rice. It came with cucumbers and pickled carrots and a fish sauce to pour over everything.... it was my favorite dish, possibly ever!! The sweetness of the pickled carrots with the saltiness of the fish sauce, the fried rice deliciousness with the perfectly seasoned lemongrass chicken was so flavorful and mixed so well together! I tried the spring rolls with the fried tofu instead of the shrimp and the flavor was bland and the peanut sauce had only light/mild peanut flavor. I would not order those again. But for sure I will be back when in town for the lemongrass chicken with rice!!! read more

The place doesn't look like much but after reading the reviews I thought I'd give it a whirl. It's a fairly standard Vietnamese/Thai menu, but do t let that fool you. I had the pho, and the broth was hearty, tasty and delicious. My spouse had a Pad Thai, a dish on every Thai menu in the world but seldom done well, and here is a seldom occasion. It was tasty well spiced and had delicious veggies to go well with the chicken and shrimp. My kids had teriyaki beef and a fried rice dish, again simple food but some very well. All in it's not a 5* dining experience. It isn't trying to be its trying to give you great food at a great price. This is a little gem I bet too many overlook. The food is great. We ordered this evening and I'm so happy to say they are back to a soild 5 stars. 6 stars if I could give a bonus for being so cool about it. Our favorite items. Tom Kha. Green Curry. Xoi Ga. And those special egg rolls that are can be easily had via the online ordering menu but they aren't on the other menu unless you ask nicely. We've ordered lots of other things and they're all good but we keep coming back to those 4 things on the regular. This is the place when you need reliable takeout. I was prepared for a great meal, having heard so many great things about this unpretentious little place in Hudson Bend. Such was not the case. The fried rice was disappointing and actually not very good. It tasted decidedly much less than freshly prepared and grainy, like it had sat in a refrigerator for several days. Walking into this place made me reminisce the restaurants in Indonesia that my parents would take me during my childhood there. The fish tank, the courteous host, and a small wall behind which you can spot the grandma and the grandson playing. Of course, this isn't an Indonesian restaurant but there are more similarities than differences between south east Asian countries. The food was spectacular with generous portion sizes. I got the Sautéed Chicken and Shrimp speciality (the menu says beef but the fact that you can customize the entree vouches for its freshness). And my girlfriend got her usual Shrimp Pad Thai. The meat in both were juicy (no signs of staleness you typically see in Asian restaurants). The flavors were wholesome and tasted true to the dish. I would like to point out the delivery of the Vietnamese Iced Coffee (picture attached): I've never seen it offered this way but can only imagine it to be the authentic way! This is a very good place for Vietnamese cuisine. It's a welcome bonus that it happens to be in my backyard, as I'm a quick car ride across Mansfield Dam to Hudson's Bend. As to my bona fides: I've eaten a great deal of Vietnamese food over the years in Houston, San Jose/Westminster, and abroad so I know of what I speak. The décor inside is pleasant-but-functional, the service excellent, and the food is authenic. Since pretty much everyone knows how to make a passable egg roll I ordered the hard-to-find Vietnamese appetizer Xoi Ga - fried savory sticky rice mixed with minced chicken. This is a crunchy, chewy 'cake' of a rice dish and while not to everyone's taste, made my day. It was followed up by a piping-hot, extremely flavorful grilled pork/egg roll rice dish. Central to any Vietnamese dish is the nuoc mam, a flavored fish-based sauce. The version here is curiously light, with a floral or citrusy taste. However, on second glance at the menu they use 'nuoc cham', which is usually a lime-juice or vegetarian version of the same sauce. It's a welcome addition and probably more palatable to those first getting into the cuisine. My 5-star is conditional in that I didn't sample the spring rolls, the pho (soup) or the Thai dishes, so I'll probably be updating this review upon a repeat visit. That said - this is excellent food for the money, and a nice alternative for lunch/dinner in a place that's chock full of burger joints and steak houses. This place gets 5 stars on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing on after finishing a meal here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Finally, there is an Asian food very close by. I am happy to try it out. I am not from Vietnam, but one of my best friends is. We cook home food for each other every week. If you are allergic to peanuts, I am sorry. I love the spring roll to dip with peanut sauce. #5 Pho: 4 stars, very good! If you don't like Chinese 5 species, you should skip pho. Very strong Chinese 5 spices flavor. If they are easy on MSG, I would give this 5 stars. Soft Drink: 5 stars. I got ice tea. I have very high standard when it comes with tea. I am from Taiwan, I grew up with tea, black tea, green tea, oolong tea... Their ice tea is made from jasmine green tea. Not high quality jasmine green tea, but it's much better than Texan Ice tea. :) I definitely come back to try other dishes! read more

This is a excellent stop for spicy and wonderful Vietnamese food. Tried the Chicken Pad Thai, it was amazing. Full of spice and delicate chunks of chicken breast. Noodles were perfect. Also had Spring Rolls, very good, fresh and tasty. The Dumplings were fried and excellent. Very simple decor for dining in. Chef Grandma is overseeing the the daughter and granddaughter cooking in the kitchen. They are fast and right on with flavors. I love this place and look forward to more wonderful meals. read more
