This unassuming place is one of the best authentic Vietnamese restaurants that I have ever encountered. It is located in a stip center with a laundromat for goodness' sake!!! The parking lot was full even when we drove by at random times in the afternoon. Service? Absolutely the most accomodating and down to earth service and there were locals coming in and out and the owners and other staff always spoke to them and visited. Even asked them if they wanted their normal seating!!!! I order the Beef Pho and wowowowowowwwww! I drank and ate as much as I could of it and the shrimp spring rolls were fresh and fantastic with the most amazing peanut dipping sauce! I would come here again in a heartbeat. read more

I keep trying to remember to take photos so I can review this place but apparently that's never going to happen so here I am. I get way too excited to eat and I dig right in. Everyone always says pho is one of the worst things to get to go. Tan my is my GO TO for pho to go. When I've had a rough day or I'm sick or I'm just in that pho kinda mood, I love ordering to go from here. It's so flavorful and the noodles stay perfectly al dente. I've been wanting to try Tan My for so long cause I always hear about how it's the best Pho in Austin and after finally getting to eat there, I can definitively say that that claim is true. This really hit the spot and satisfied my pho craving after the winter storm. I'm so glad they were open because this meal saved my life. I'm a changed person. The vibe is very classic pho spot and took me back to my favorite pho restaurant at home. The workers were also very sweet and attentive and we got our food super quick. Like really quick. I got their large number 1 pho and the large is a very generous portion. The bowl was as big as my head. But the meat cuts were so soft and chewy and the broth tasted amazing. My pet peeve is when pho noodles are too soggy or soft but these were perfect. read more

I went here for my lunch one day with my good friend, and I'm so glad that she introduced me to this place because I don't think I would've found it by myself. It was very busy for lunchtime, but we were still able to grab a seat and we were taken care of immediately. I will post my pictures below, but I love to get suggestions from the server or staff about what I should try and it was honestly all amazing. They explained the menu and what they thought I would like. I enjoy being able to people watch it as well. It wasn't too loud. The food was absolutely amazing. Wonderful hole in the wall food spot. Went in during lunch rush, they sat me immediately, food came out quickly after I ordered. I recommend going in to eat to really experience how their food brings people from all walks of life to eat. The people even have regulars that they chat with. Returned after a year and enjoyed every dish this time. The owner is super nice and friendly. Pho is comforting and great broth with good noodle to meat ratio. Bun Bo hue was so flavorful with pork knuckles and pork blood. Close to traditional. Wish they didnt serve it so much chilli oil floating on top. I absolutely loved the service here! They were so attentive, and the place / bathrooms were also clean. Food: I got the pho that only had the eye round steak #13, it was absolutely delicious and the eggrolls were so perfectly crunchy. Nothing was served cold everything was steaming hot. Finding an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Austin can be difficult, but Tan My is just that! I've been going here since college, and their food has never changed which I appreciate. Prepare to wait a bit on the weekends, as they are usually full to the brim especially in the morning. Their pho menu is interesting as each ascending number takes away a type of meat, which allows for more personalization than some places. The no 1 is my go to! The broth is soothing, homey, and filling. The meat is truly packed in there, and the price is still reasonable. The green iced thai tea is super solid and pairs well with the pho. I've been getting pho to-go from Tan My for years, but I finally decided to pop in for the full dining experience. I mainly get pho here, and it's always consistently good. Everything well cooked, the broth always flavorful. This is family-owned spot, and it has that family feel to it. The place seems to be always packed during lunchtime, so expect it to be busy, but the service is great here as expected and you can tell they have their fair share of regulars. I'm not sure if it's the best pho in Austin, but it's definitely up there and always pretty consistent! Had a new dish today, chicken over rice with fish sauce. I thought the dish was plentiful in quantity but I wasn't the biggest fan of The taste. It just didn't have anything that jumped out at me and seemed a little bit bland to what I like. I still love this restaurant and think they have great menu offerings. I'd heard so much about this place, and it's in a neighborhood with a high bar for quality Asian food. It was also very busy, and we were lucky to get the last table right away. The service was great. The decor is no nonsense, which is fine for an authentic experience. I will say it's refreshing to see Vietnamese iced coffee done the right way. But I always use bun as a measure of a Vietnamese place and it was a disappointment. Way too many vermicelli noodles, way too little vegetables -- no julienned cucumber, no shredded carrot, and a smidge of lettuce -- and the vermicelli was not the correct rice noodle. And the spring rolls were also too bland and the peanut sauce not peanuty enough. I'm still looking for a really good place. read more

This is comfort food in so many ways. Tam My is a small family run restaurant that takes care of the customers. On a cold or rainy day you simply can't beat the pho. You have all the usual protein options and it is served with the customary basil, bean sprouts and fresh jalapeños. A small will satisfy most appetites but a large size is available for the hearty eaters. It is owned by a lovely, gracious couple who are almost always present. They are ably assisted by their son and daughter. The rest of the staff have been a part of the team for years, so they obviously treat them like part of the family. Once you have been there several times you become part of the family too! They recently started closing on Sundays so everyone can rest. read more

One of my favorite places! It's a quaint place with great service! The food is amazing whether you get the pho, bun, rice or appetizers. It is a popular place so there may be a line, but it goes quickly. We ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls and pho. Both are so flavorful and come out hot and quickly! First time trying bon bo hue! Walked into Tan My and i knew it was going to be an authentic experience. The service was friendly and attentive. Tân My is in the top 5 best restaurants that Austin has to offer. Their food is always outstanding, never a miss. I first learned about this restaurant from a Lyft driver who was sharing his favorite Vietnamese food in Austin and Round Rock, and he said Tân My was the best and most authentic. He was not wrong! I have never dined in, so I always order to-go via phone. It is the place my partner and I order takeout the most from because the food is always delicious with ample portions that means two meals (dinner plus dinner or lunch the next day). There are multiple comfortable tables inside for those who prefer to dine-in. My favorites are the 55C crispy noodles (I get mine with just shrimp but it comes with chicken and beef for meat-eaters), 47 shrimp vermicelli with lemongrass, and 29 egg noodle soup with shrimp. The crispy noodles are thick and fried together in truly the most delicious sauce ever with fresh vegetables. My family has also loved their chicken fried rice and their rice noodle soup with chicken. Amy and David are wonderful siblings who often answer the phones and check you out, and the full family and all the staff are welcoming and make delicious food. They genuinely make you feel at home in the restaurant, and their food is a nurturing gift. They are currently closed on Sundays, so just plan ahead for your lunch or dinner. Small shop, no frills with mostly noodle menu (with and without broth). This place reminds me of a Pho place I had in Houston cause they have different beef meat options and combo. I got the number 3 on the Pho list and it was really good. Broth is a little sweeter than how I am used to but it tastes good, meat is delicious. Had the worst experience; we are regulars, and my wife decided to try something new, it was to salty for her so we talked to the staff and they seemed afraid to tell the owner, but they did the OWNER brought the plate back and said; "look the others ordered that same plate and they are enjoying it", he also said "No other place will ever allow you to return a plate after ordering" i told him yes any other place would be generous enough to fix the problem for us he then said "No" and laughed. I told him that we wouldn't come back when i got up he offered to give us a plate on the house that my wife does enjoy, so we agreed BUT the attitude and horrible experience was unacceptable. read more

Updated review now that I've gone in person. In-person dine in hours at the time of this review are 10 AM - 3 PM, with 10 AM - 7 PM on Thursday, Friday, Saturday. The 55c Hu Tieu Xeo is large pieces of clustered rice noodle and is delicious. It's even better in person. Everything we had was fantastic. This is a family-owned business. We got the Bun Bo Hue/spicy beef soup ($15) and Bun Thit Nuong/vermicelli with grilled pork ($15). The Bun Bo Hue had a nice variety of meat, but I liked the Bun Thit Nuong even more! The grilled pork was so flavorful. The fish sauce flavoring was light and refreshing. I liked the texture of the dried but partially soaked in the sauce noodles. We went on a Saturday mid-day and got seated immediately! Service was fast, friendly, and accurate. read more

We love this family owned restaurant so that every visit to Austin must include a visit there! Our family lives nearby and the family who make and serve you are delightful, understanding special needs for the menu and including extras we love. Thank you for a wonderful holiday meal. I loved this place I always order thru Uber Eats and I was finally happy to take my husband as he has never tried their food. However the service of the Hispanic ladies that greeted us was great. But the older Asian woman said hi to every non Hispanic customer and even when we were looking at the menu she reluctantly asked us with a nasty tone if we were ready to order. Not one time did she ask us if everything was alright but sure enough was asking all the other white or Asian ppl. I will never dine in and even as we were paying she had asked the other young girl working the register why we didn't leave a tip. I'll tip when it's deserved. But the food has always been good. Highly recommend their pho! I don't live in Austin but when I come back to visit again --this spot will be on my top 5 places to come eat again. Holy smokes Batman!! To think this place is around the corner from my house. By far the best pho I have had in Austin. They were super friendly and great service. But be warned it is a small place and parking is tough (good thing I can walk). The selection of dishes is amazing. And did I mention the pho is phenomenal!! I met a former colleague for lunch here today at her suggestion. I haven't been here for years and luckily we got there just before the lunch rush and didn't have to wait in line to get a seat. I need to remember to come back more often. I had forgotten how good and fresh the food was here! They do a great job getting folks a spot and serving folks quickly. The dishes are a good size so it's always nice to be able to take leftovers home. I always get confused when choosing between pho's so when my friend got her typical vermicelli with curry sauce I got the same. It was really good! The spring rolls were good too. The peanut sauce was different than I'm used to so I probably should have tried it with some other sauces they had on the table. I look forward to going back again soon! read more

We came with one goal: try as many things as possible. Saturdays are perfect for that because they offer dim sum. We started with the Pho Xiao Long Bao (Wagyu beef soup dumplings) and the Korean pancakes. The soup dumplings completely stole the show. Perfectly cooked, delicate wrappers, rich and flavorful broth, and with just a touch of chili oil...absolute perfection. I've had soup dumplings in many places, and these are hands down the best I've ever had. I say that with my whole chest. The Korean pancakes were also outstanding. Crispy on the outside, tender inside, with that perfect balance of savory and just a hint of sweetness. Every bite had great texture and flavor. For our entrées, my husband ordered the Banana Salmon. It was spectacular. It's one of those dishes that makes you question whether you've ever really had good curry before. The spice wasn't about heat, it was about depth, warmth, and layers of beautifully balanced flavor. I ordered the Crab&Shrimp Tom Yum Coconut Fried Rice, and this dish deserves its own paragraph.
