Quick and easy to get in and out of this soup peddler! I mosey over to this north west Austin location as it's closest to my house. I popped in this morning shortly after they opened their doors and they were friendly to take my order, make my smoothie! Tables and space were clean, bright and airy making me feel like I could sit and study or maybe even take meeting session or two for a quiet place to work out of the house! The rip torn was yummy and fresh and I appreciated the lovely service and can't wait to come back. Parking can be a little tricky if the business area is packed but can't do much about that so avoid coming during peak busy times with construction near by too. read more

You'll find parking, don't worry. Great spot for cup of Mulligatawny soup or chicken with rice. They have delicious beef bone broth, too, which I got for a fast. My #1 go-to smoothie is the Business Time (cold-brewed espresso, banana, peanut butter raw local honey, cacao, oat milk). I'd been ordering it for years so when I moved back I was glad to see it was still on the menu. I also put have the Voltran and Duane Almond on regular rotation. We had such good service last week it made our visit that much better. read more

I dashed in before closing on Sunday night as a cold front was blowing in. The kind woman took my order of beef vegetable & the turkey sandwich. When she brought my take out bag to me she told me she added Mulligatawny soup for me to try. Oh my goodness was it delicious, savory and hearty. Stopped in for a quick soup to go while I was sick. I loved the chicken and rice but the broccoli cheddar was not great. The broccoli seemed to be blended and the soup had a weird flavor. I also ordered a grilled cheese and the sandwich was bland. I didn't know grilled cheese could be bland, but it sure was. The second time I went back I tried different soups and my order was wrong so that was irritating considering it's a 20 min drive and I was sick. I'd go back for the tortilla soup and the chicken and rice for sure. It's a little pricey but if you're sick it's the perfect quick meal read more

Man, this was the perfect spot for cold weather food! I was told their vegan and gluten-free grilled cheese was fantastic, so I stopped to get it for my wife. She loved it along with their chicken and rice soup. I got the regular grilled cheese on sourdough, which was good with the tomato basil. The tomato basil was unlike any other, and very flavorful. Their green detox blended veggies sounded interesting so they gave me a sample. I loved it! You really feel like you're getting your veggies in, but in an enjoyable way. The person who helped me was super friendly and helpful. She wasn't pushy at all but offered samples of anything I was wondering about. The food came out quick but not so fast that the sandwiches seemed pretty-made and reheated. Everything was fresh and warm. Place seemed clean. Pretty basic for eating in, but cold weather food should really be taken home and enjoyed under a blanket anyways! read more

The staff and smoothies from here are great! The front door has a little jingle attached. Very clean, pretty spacious. Plenty of parking. I've only ever gotten smoothies from here. My go-tos are some rotating combination of The Golden Ticket, Matcha Made in Heaven, Brain Eno, and possibly a monthly special. At this location, and all other soup peddler locations, they offer a rotating smoothie or juice of the day. Usually I place an order to go via Toast. Orders are prepped pretty quickly. read more

This place focuses on soups, smoothies, and grilled cheeses. The food and smoothies were all good. I enjoyed the soup and grilled cheeses that I tried. The service was fine. There is a small area to sit inside and a few tables outside as well. Might be nice to add some umbrellas or shade outside if possible. read more

This place is such a clever concept! They have a wide variety of soups to choose from which you are free to sample. The staff are very patient and give wonderful recommendations if you don't know what to get. I went with a friend and we shared 2 soups, 1 sandwich, and 2 juices. They were all wonderful (10/10). If you need to stock up on soup while you're sick or after a surgery, you can buy bags of soup to take home. It's also a great lunch option if you work nearby. Found this gem on the search for some wholesome lighter eats while vacationing here. Great little place. Whole Foods, fresh products and great service. Allie whipped up some amazing gut healthy smoothies and Miriam catered to my kids, allowing them to sample every soup they wanted, we ended up getting their amazing mulligatawny for dinner. We took home some bone broth to have as a morning "tea". It was delicious and just what my body was craving!! Thank you for such a perfect break from all the other amazing rich foods Austin has to offer. Will for sure keep this on my lists of musts in Austin!! read more

Generally tasteless or over seasoned food and watered down juice. I had the salmon salad. Kale was alright, but the salmon chunks with sesame crust or whatever was on them was so salty it dominated the whole dish. Not great. The turkey pesto "grilled cheese" was literally one slice of turkey, tiny bit of pesto, and a glazing of cheese on the bread. Way underwhelming. The green juice tasted bland and watered down. I make juice all the time. I know what it tastes like. read more

I eat here a few times a week and have for years. I work next door now as well so I love having healthy and tasty options so close by! Some of my favorites here are the Rip Torn and Slackliner smoothies. The soups are always fresh and amazing and the Provolone and Basil Pesto grilled cheese is sooo delicious! Umm, yumm! Yes please! One of the first days of cold weather that we had my husband and I stopped by for lunch. Hadn't been here in over two years due to not living in the area. It's like time never stopped for this place. In fact I think it's become an even more attractive to stop by at for soul warming soup and or a grilled sandwich. It made my day to have some chicken in rice soup with a green apple and Munster grilled cheese. Defiantly need to go back to try other soups! The environment is casual and chill, dine in the shops or there are outside seating options as well. Staff is also a perk. Very friendly and knowledgeable about everything they have to offer. Tried to go here for lunch. With only 3 people in line it was never moving. The person ahead said they were there already for 30-40 minutes and had yet to order. I get the feeling looking at the workers that they must be on some good drugs. Advice to management: be there for lunch rushes to see how bad it is. It shouldn't take half an hour to assemble a sandwich and put it in a panini press and scoop up a cup of soup. Food might be good. Who knows. I'm not wasting 40 minutes to order. read more

I ordered a grill cheese sandwich with the Weekly Special Moonage Monday juice to go for a quick lunch today. I added a Cherry Amour cookie on the spur of the moment. The sandwich was very tasty, the juice was surprisingly good, with just a hint of spice. The Cherry Amour cookie was stupendous, very rich, chocolatey with dried cherries. Super fresh ingredients, a handful certified organic and mostly friendly staff. I come here once a week for a cup of soup (tomato basil is bomb, slightly too heavy on the marjoram though) and a simple toasted sandwich. some days the smoothies are better than others- I've definitely noticed that when it's busier they get a little less blendy (during rush hour my Duane Almond had chunks of almond and date in it that wouldn't go through my straw) but for the most part these guys are really great. Bonus points for packing everything really well - I hit the brakes pretty hard heading back and not one lid popped off to any containers. Made my day read more

Absolutely adore The Soup Peddler. Delicious soups, sandwiches, and smoothies! Perfect place to go when you want to eat healthy but don't want to cook. There's also a grab and go section with salads, salmon, zucchini noodle meals, fruit, etc. I can go here with out having to consciously think about what's the healthiest option or calorie counting. The chicken and rice soup is my favorite but you can't go wrong with any soup or sandwich choice you make! P.S. if you're in a smoothie mood try the peanut butter and banana! read more

This place is alright overall. Soup is amazing and there are tons of selections. I got the bone broth which was flavorful. Sandwiches have a good variety and are ok. The standout is definitely all their soups. For the cost and portion, it is a bit more expensive than I expect. Even after a sandwich and a soup, I was still hungry. We are Austin's premiere liquids emporium. We sell a tasty, healthy variety of fresh juices and smoothies, locally hand-made soups and salads, and pressed sandwiches. We are fast, friendly, healthy, and completely organic. In short, we are awesome.

History

Established in 2002.

It all started with an idea and a bicycle. Before Austin became the hustle & bustle city it is today, David Ansel established The Soup Peddler out of a humble home tucked away in the funky Bouldin Creek neighborhood where he would craft unique concoctions of handmade soup from scratch. Riding around South Austin, David would deliver these soups himself to friends and neighbors on his bike, "Old Yellow". Interest for David's soups quickly grew with rapid expansion, and thus, The Soup Peddler was born. Although the business ran for years as strictly a delivery service (winning multiple awards for it's efficiency), The Soup Peddler eventually built a brick & mortar in 2010 to allow their customers, cleverly deemed "soupies", to come to them for their soup needs. Their menu has grown to encompass healthy smoothies & juices as well. Now with three locations and more to come, The Soup Peddler has truly become an Austin staple in a city that takes good food very seriously.

The warning was unwarranted though, as the Soup Man shortly thereafter appeared at our table addressing, us by name and apologizing that the hostess didn't realize what esteemed guests we were. Bashfully I stammered that he must have me confused with someone else as I'd never been to this establishment before, but he softly shook his head and with a smile said, "I know all who live within this city." and pulled a steaming bowl of turkish wedding soup (my favorite!) from behind my ear as if to prove his point. Overall it was a wonderful experience! I am docking it one star because they were out of oyster crackers to crumble on my soup. Will be back!

The mango & orange one was too icy, so it was hard to sip. The banana & peanut butter mostly tasted like peanut butter, but it wasn't too thick, which I liked. They also let you spin a wheel for a prize which was fun. Parking can be difficult during rush hour so I recommend ordering for take out. My parents bought an 8 oz cup of the chicken soup with rice. It was actually really good and packed with ingredients. It's something I would gladly eat on a cold winter day. I definitely liked their soups a lot more than their smoothies.

We loved the Soup Peddler and would go back again to try their other menu items (it's a large menu and you are sure to find more than a few things to your liking)! It's a walk up window with outdoor tables; friendly service!

Another cool thing about the restaurant is that the menu rotates due to the utilization of local grown foods in the area.

Today, however, I tried out Castle Hill for the first time and it was a weird experience. The service was awkward and just off. Ordering takeout, you'd expect to arrive at the time designated with your order prepared to grab and go. When I get there, at the designated time, I mention my name and order. The smoothie seemed to be on the side (instead of the counter), and the team member has to go to the back and I watch them not only transport the bag of soup from one plastic container to another, I watch them throw away the bag that still has at least 1/2 cup of soup still in it. I regret not saying anything. They then gave it to me. No bag, no utensils, no croutons (as selected on my order). So I preceded to bag myself. Certainly thrown off and annoyed that after paying for a 32 oz bag of soup, including service charge, I went home with 28 oz of soup and an awkward experience. Maybe it's protocol to pour out of the bag now? In the past, I was given the whole bag so I can store properly and I was ensure the full amount. No idea.
