decent chinese restaurant that is hidden along guad. very convenient for ut students craving chinese food. the price is on the higher side around $16 per dish but the portions are on the higher side. both meat dishes that we ordered, double cooked pork belly and mongolian beef, had more vegetables/onion/jalepenos than meat which was disappointing. i went with two other people and we split three dishes, we were very full afterwards and had leftovers to take home. service was very friendly, the guy at the counter didn't speak much english but brought over our rice, extra plates and chopsticks.

So good!! Was looking for a late dinner place after touring around campus and found this gem! They have a very extensive menu, so I just took the recommendations from the VERY nice staff. So easy, ordering can be in person or on their kiosk (which has pictures). We went about 35 min before they were closing and they didn't mind at all! Food came out fast, tables were available and cleaned quickly, and it was such an enjoyable little simple spot on the drag. I personally got the black pepper beef rice bowl and YUM it hit the spot! Saucy, fresh ingredients - I couldn't ask for a better Chinese hole in the wall

I am contemplating legal action. This is unacceptable. Management should be better at maintaining a sanitized kitchen. An entire screw?! That's not hard to miss and cook in with everything. I'm still shocked after finding that in there. Very dangerous and I'm feeling sick since eating as much of it as I did.

It's very reminiscent of classic Chinese restaurant that serves great tasting food that is rich in oil, spice, and garlic. However, I will posit it by saying that the prices are a smidge high for what I would entertain paying for Chinese food. The chongqing chicken was $18 and was more than adequately spiced. I would recommend making it extra spicy if you can handle the heat, but it surely packs a punch. My one critique is that I would enjoy more bits of chicken throughout the dish and a bit less fried pieces of nothing. The lo mein was good, a smidge bland, but serviceable. If you want a classic lo mein, I would recommend this one. Cheers!

Super close to the UT campus and the AT&T Conference Center. Ambience: This is a rustic and simple restaurant. That is almost tucked away in the very back of an alley? Service: Self-serve your drinks and order at the Counter if you want to pay cash. The lady at the counter English is limited. My Chinese was limited and I had no cash, so I used the ordering machine. You order dine-in or take out. I dine-in. So you order and then sit. When your food is ready it is brought to you in plastic container and you are given plastic silverware. My plasticware was very thin and the fork started to bend trying to grab my chicken. I really needed chopsticks but it was starting to get busy and I did not want to bother her, so I made do with my fork and spoon. Food: I watched as other people's food came out, all the portion sizes are huge. I ordered traditional Sichuan Chongqing spicy chicken extra spicy. The last time I had this dish was in Beijing and I was having a craving. In Beijing they stuff the peppers with corn meal and fry them. Here they do not stuff the red peppers, but the chicken was cooked just like in Beijing. The chicken was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Since I got it extra spicy, there were jalapeno bits mixed in with the dried peppers. I could taste the Sichuan peppercorns and then I got a small hint of numbing. I recommend that you shake the dish up prior to eating. I noticed that as I got to the middle of the dish, the numbing was more noticeable compared to the top pieces. By the bottom I could feel the heat and numbing at the same time. If I am ever in the area again, will eat here again and learn the Chinese word for more Sichuan peppercorn please. They also serve American Chinese food. I looked around and those dishes did not really look good, but the place was packed with people ordering American Chinese. I will say the Chongqing chicken is worth the higher price and as close to Beijing as you can get in downtown Austin. Cleanliness: below average

Went to this restaurant for a weekday dinner. It is on campus, so street parking skills are required if you are coming from off campus. Truthfully, this restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside or the inside. It is all about the food here, which I do think is good. I ordered the garlic eggplant, spicy chicken, and combination fried rice. The eggplant is really good! This was definitely my favorite out of the items I got. The eggplant is fried and coated in this garlic soy sauce. I didn't really love the spicy chicken because the chicken pieces were SO small (pea sized?). The flavor was good but disappointed by how small and little chicken there was. The food also all came in to go containers and we were given paper plates to eat on, which I assume started as part of the pandemic. I've been to the other locations for the restaurant, and aesthetically it is much better but food is similar. A solid 3.5/5 stars for this restaurant but rounding up!

The reviews were good, but then I needed to remember that these reviews come from college students. I ordered the egg drop soup. The flavor was decent, but the viscosity was a little thicker than I like plus they don't have crispy wontons to go with it. I got spring rolls that were lukewarm and greasy. My main, chicken lomein was actually hot, but tasteless.

Really awesome place! The General Tso's Chicken was great. I'm picky about getting meat from random Chinese places, but decided to take the swing here and didn't regret it. The meat itself was fine -- could have been a little higher quality -- but it was nicely crunchy on the outside, and more importantly, the sauce was awesome. The fried rice was ok. I liked the shorter grains of rice, and how they were a little chewy. The texture was great. However, it was basically just rice and egg. Ie. there weren't any green onions or anything else fun. And I thought it coulda used a little more flavor, ie soy sauce or something. Then again it was a side to the General Tso's, and it's nice to contrast the super saucy and flavorful with something more bland. Maybe that's what they were going for. The Dan Dan Noodles were also great! They had those Sichuan peppercorns ground up in there that give you that "mala" flavor. Before going here I had read about mala but never actually experienced it. I'm so happy I finally got to experience it. It's tingly, chilly, somewhat aromatic, somewhat spicy. Very fun and interesting. And then the other flavors and spices in the noodles were good. I thought the noodles themselves were a little on the soft side though. I like them a little firmer and chewier.

F3. Fish Fillet in Chili Oil and A3. Fried Dumplings, with extra J1. Steam Rice
    Moo Sun K.

Okay, so let's start with what was good about the place. The fish in chili oil was fantastic. Not the real deal, but pretty darn close to it. What I didn't like was how the food, especially the 11 dollar dumplings, were overpriced. 33 dollars for Chinese food is a little expensive, I think.

F7. Mapo Tofu, C2. Sesame Chicken, V2. Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, R2. Chicken Fried Rice
    Reynu S.

The mapo tofu and chicken fried rice are MaPo is not spicy though. I'm not sure why since it arrived with a generous sprinkling of Sichuan pepper. There's also no pork. The C2. Sesame Chicken and V2. Eggplant with Garlic Sauce are okay but I prefer the other two much more. The quality of chicken used for C2 was a little sus and V2 was very sweet and oily (this is how it's supposed to taste but it's worth noting in case it's not your thing). This restaurant definitely has milder flavors and caters either to foreign taste or those who can't handle a lot of heat.

Best Chinese food in West Campus- I think the Chongqing chicken, fish in spicy oil, and mapo tofu are great here. The food is spicy, well-made, and well-portioned. The main quirk here is that the inside is quite warm and isn't very well decorated. Still, it's super convenient, consistent, and tasty.

We arrived around 7:40p Saturday evening and this spot is bumpin busy and very lively. The outdoor patio was even packed. We were so lucky as a walk-in party of 2, a table was being cleaned so we were able to be seated quickly. Our server brought us each a tablet to order our food. I ordered the cucumber salad and general tso chicken with fried rice. My man ordered 2 lbs of live mala style crawfish $18 per pound (min 2# per order) with 5 shrimp. He also ordered the sesame chicken dish. Our food came out within 10 minutes, super fast. The crawfish took a little bit longer because I believe they make it fresh. Here's where it gets interesting. My man said his mouth was tingling and his tongue felt funny and when he took a drink of his tea it tasted super weird. Come to find out, the crawfish mala sauce has Szechuan peppercorn which has a numbing tingling effect to your tongue and mouth. We did not know this before we ordered. So He thought he was having an allergic reaction to something. We asked our server and she explained a traditional mala seasoning. I highly recommend that this is listed on the menu item as a forewarning to those that have never had the Mala live crawfish here before. Sadly, there were a lot of crawfish wasted tonight because He wasn't able to eat them all That seasoning just did not agree with his mouth or taste buds at all. :( But....The general tso and sesame chicken dishes were tasty! Another call out, We both ordered ice tea at the beginning and it came out pretty quickly, But no one returned to our table during our time here to offer refills or to check in on us after everything was delivered. I understand the restaurant was busy when we arrived but it slowed down while we were there. We may return to this location if we are in the area to try other dishes but unfortunately, he is unable to eat the live crawfish due to that one seasoning. Everyone was super friendly and I recommend trying the restaurant if you haven't before it.

The cumin seeds give it that signature earthy, aromatic flavor and you get a slight tingly numbing spice sensation from the chilis and peppercorn. The lamb is not overly gamey, but it still does taste like lamb so if you are not really a lamb fan, I'd choose something else. - Jumping Fish: A very popular dish! Tender white fish fillets that is so soft it melts in your mouth. It is in a flavorful oil and broth that is refreshing from the fresh jalapenos. It is a savory dish, yet still relatively mild. It commes with napa cabbage as well! This was my favorite dish and I loved the flavor combined with the white rice. - Mapo Tofu (Vegetarian): They have one with pork as well, but I got the vegetarian version. Silky soft tofu cubes in that signature mapo tofu sauce and numbing peppercorns. Despite the appearance of all the dishes, none of them were very spicy. Overall, a comforting soft, spicy, savory dish with a slight tingle. - Eggplant in garlic sauce: A deliciously sweet and umami garlic sauce. The eggplants could have been a bit more cooked through in my opinion though since it was still quite firm. I loved it still! Note that all the dishes to me were not spicy just had an underlying subtle spice or tingle (like a finishing flavor note if you will). Also, since it is sichuan the dishes are on the oilier side. You order with the cashier at the front and pay up front as well. Food comes out quickly. It is a small space with three rows of tables (maybe around 12-15 tables give or take), so it does fill up fast. We were able to flag down servers to help us get an extra plate, tea cups, etc. Got a variety of dim sum classics: hargow (shrimp dumpling), siu mai, rice noodles, custard buns, chicken feet, chow fun, egg tarts, soy sauce noodles, charsiu bao, turnip cake My favorites are the siu mai, chow fun and custard buns! They also have non-traditional dim sum dishes such as soup dumplings, which actually originated from Shanghai. We got them and they were ok. We ordered a second time to get more custard buns but it seemed they ran out so it took some time for them to make them fresh. When they finally came, the buns were not smooth and it really looks like the custard was about to burst. Someone bit into theirs and the custard exploded onto their shirt. However, we all had a good laugh and still enjoyed the food. Have to have tea during dim sum so we also got our puer and chrysanthemum tea mix. Not sure if they usually charge for this, but we got it complimentary! Yay! If you are familiar with dim sum, then you know these are smaller dishes meant to be shared among the group! Everybody ate and was satisfied. Each person paid about $25 after tip! There's a designated parking lot with lots of spots. If you are looking for a dim sum spot that is not too busy, this is the place to go to!

Ordering is through QR code and they did not know what order went to which table. They put food on our table and took it back to a different table TWICE. The good: the dim sum tasted legit. I'd recommend the shrimp rice roll. If service was better and their ordering system was more organized, this could be such a bomb place!
