Most people might not know that Deckhands is actually owned and has it's cuisine influenced by Laotians! If you love oysters, give them a try. This particular trip, we were the only Asians in the place. Service was on point and we never waited for anything, in fact she had to come back several times while waiting on us! Oysters - we didn't get sick! Gulf oysters with the typical fixings - however the green salsa is a huge hit amongst my friends. Fried Fish (Thai Whole Flounder) - Delicious, flaky, what's not to love?! Make sure to try the sauce! Calimari - probably the only slight letdown. I've been to this location a few times and the others as well but this one's closest to me in my honey so we have dinner there last night. Service was Stellar we got in really quickly even though it was very busy and were taking care of right away once we sat down. My partner's been coming here for years and he always gets the exact same thing which is the 10 piece shrimp basket with fries and a salad I on the other hand absolutely adore the Thai food as well as the Cajun & seafood items. Went here to watch the first NFL game of the season. They had lots of TVs and the vibe was up. Our waitress was 10/10 very friendly and good at her job. The hostess was maybe having a bad day but the waitress made up for it heavy. We ordered the 3 pc catfish which came with fries and the spicy thai basil stir fry with pork and fried pickles. We also ordered some Fried pickles: 3/5 just average nothing special. They are spears which makes more room to be soggy but it wasn't overly salty which I appreciate. Catfish: 2/5 the fish had no seasoning and the fries tasted frozen and stale. Best part was the hush puppies. Located right next to a highway, Deckhand Oyster Bar is always very busy and lively with many customers, especially during dinner hours. However, this did not deter us from going, and we were not disappointed! With my family, we ordered the Salt and Pepper Special (Calamari Shrimp Combo), the Shellfish Oyster Raw, 1 DZ and 1/2 Dz, 2 Tom Yum Seafood Soup bowls, the Deckhand Seafood Noodle Soup, and a Thai Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. We enjoyed everything: the salt and pepper special was nice and crispy, and the oyster plate was incredible in how fresh they were. They even gave us 2 extra oysters, which we really appreciated! The Tom Yum soup bowls came out to be smaller than we expected, but we didn't mind as it sufficed for our appetite and was very delicious. The broth by itself was a bit too salty for our liking, though. This also goes for the seafood noodle soup. Needless to say, my favorite of the night by far was definitely the Thai Mango Sticky Rice. As shown below, the plating was just plain adorable, and you can really feel the love in the way the mango was intricately sliced! We just thought it was a bit heavy on the sweetness of the rice, but loved it nonetheless. All in all, Deckhand's food is well worth its price, though they can be heavy handed on the flavoring (but if you're someone that likes boldness, then it's not a problem by any means). Service was very accommodating given the number of customers they were juggling, but could have been more careful when handling our order, especially our drinks. I would probably leave a rating of 3.5 if possible. We went here during lunch and decided to get the lunch special. It was not great but it was not bad. There's plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside - high tables, low tables and booths. There's a bar in the middle and big screen TVs all around. I had assumed this was only a seafood place but they have just as much Thai food. And I really would not call it seafood because shrimp and oysters were about it. The fish was catfish. We got the lunch special which consists of four pieces of fried shrimp, hush puppies, french fries and a bowl of gumbo. They brought the gumbo out first and it was excellent. Lots of pieces of okra, shrimp and I'm guessing catfish and it was not spicy at all, which I really like. The main entrée came out fairly quickly also. The french fries looked and tasted just like McDonald's, so they were pretty good. I liked the hush puppies but they could've been seasoned a little more. The fried shrimp had absolutely no taste. And it didn't help that I personally did not care for the seafood or the cocktail sauce. I love a good red sauce and this was not it. The meal and the atmosphere were good overall but I would probably not go back, choosing to try a different seafood place instead. They were a little unorganized when you first walked in and we waited quite a while for our menu once we sat down because we did not realize they're supposed to hand you one when you get there. Deckhand is one of our favorite restaurant and go to get oysters and shrimp! We been here many time and usually enjoyed our food. Very unfortunately 2 times that we recently went here because I was craving for oysters during oyster season, the oysters were tasteless and not great. We thought maybe it was a fluke so came back a month later and the same thing. Oysters were tiny not like how we usually had them... and it was tasteless. Our go to dish is usually the salt and pepper tempura shrimp and that is usually a solid dish because the shrimp are big and it's a light tempura batter that is crispy. This was not the case when we had it. The shrimp were noticeably smaller and they were cut so thin so they can be stretched out like they were bigger shrimp.. but they were not. There was so much batter I can't even taste the shrimp. The étouffée rou seems to not be cooked properly which resulted in a flour taste. It was simply a 2 back to back dining experience. :( I don't know if quality of the seafood and cooking is slipping or we just had a streak of bad luck which we never have at Deckhand. It will be a while until we return since our experiences recently haven't been great. We hope when we return things are better because we really loved deckhand minus the loudness. Oh a positive note: we really love that deckhand put a board up where ppl can buy each other meals if they don't have enough money to pay for a meals there's prepaid meal receipts right in front where when you step in to let the hostess know number of ppl in your party to be seated. Finally decided to order the Catfish and shrimp Deckhand Platter. And it tastes like they are passing Swai off as Catfish. I want whatever seasoning they're using because it's addicting. They have a lot of cooked options if you can't have raw oysters. The La Frontera oysters tasted smoked, although the it states crab filling, you can't really taste much since it's smothered with cheese. We came here at 6 PM on a Thursday evening and despite having a large parking lot, I was lucky to get the next to last parking space. Pretty much every table in place was taken, and every seat at the bar was full, but at least we did not have to wait to be seated. Next, you are handed these small hard to read laminated menus that are peeling open at the corners. Next thing you notice is the loud music which is actually quite annoying. Imagine a room blasting music from an a.m. radio station to the point of distortion with patrons shouting continuously. If you're looking for a quiet romantic place and a fine dining experience, you better cross this place off your list. It only got worse from there. Inside you'll notice the place is completely covered in flat screens inside an A-frame warehouse design that's been modified to be a restaurant. Some yelpers recommended the calamari, but I have to admit I found it to be the worst I've tried to date. It was basically somewhat overcooked with a very harsh unappealing crunchy batter on a bed of flavorless veggies in desperate need of a sauce. One thing that most if not all yelpers failed to mention is that this place does not have a liquor license. So you can forget about your frozen margarita or favorite mixed drink, although they do have a couple of craft beers on tap. Their wine list is also very limited and of low quality. We both opted for the fried shrimp basket, thinking it was a safe bet, but no such luck. The fries were previously frozen out of the bag offering, and the hush puppies were the worst I've ever come across. The shrimp were battered in a cornmeal tempura mix which also disappointed. My wife commented on the Asian twist on the food and that they clearly missed the mark. The only highlights were the spring rolls and the fact you do get a pretty good sized mug of beer for the money, but the rest was a complete disaster. We couldn't wait to get the bill so we could get the hell out of there fast. Utter waste of money for a very unpleasant dining experience complete with very mediocre abysmal food. Avoid. read more

The crawfish etoufee on top was very runny and lacked flavor. I would not recommend this dish. I have a shrimp allergy and ordered calamari. My calamari dish had a few shrimp in it (by accident of the kitchen). I didn't make a big deal about it and they they re-made it. By the time it came, we had to go so we took my meal - a fried dish - to go which we all know will never taste as good re-heated. The server was sweet and apologetic and I had no issue with her but the manager took 40% off my calamari dish. (I didn't ask for it) but if you send out the wrong food, especially when there's an allergy situation AND everyone else is done with their meal by the time the correct food comes out, the better customer service approach would have been to apologize and not charge for the dish. read more

We came here for the crawfish and I must say my expectations from other reviews had me hyped and I may have come on a off day but these were just okay crawfish. We were seated quickly, the waitress was nice however the place was LOUD and I get not wanting plates to collect on tables however the guy was trying to pick up plates that I wasn't done with which became frustrating. We ordered two pounds of crawfish - mild and spicy - $13.99 a pound - and then each side (potatoes, corn, sausage) is $1.50 each. So the mild crawfish doesn't have much flavor and the spicy is just spice on the palette. There were one or two good size ones in the bag however over all these crawfish were small and when you are paying by the pound and the tails are small it doesn't leave a whole lot to be desired. The onion rings lacked flavor - meaning they need to season their batter, sprinkle some salt when they come out the grease, something to make it more than an onion dipped in batter and fried. I also didn't understand why all the other tables were given a bucket to toss their shells in and we were given a plate but at that point I was just digging in.
