A year later I decided to try this place again. Only because it is so much closer and convenient. I glanced on the reviews and decided to go with most suggested items. Pad kee mao and red curry. Kids meal, chicken teriyaki was actually good. We really liked red curry even it was on a sweeter side, they add pineapple to this one. However, pad kee mao was not what I expected. Got to come and dine in here recently. Started with the appetizer sampler -I was only able to try seafood and veggie items but my friend enjoyed the shumai for me! The peanut sauce for spring rolls was also very good - perfect texture and flavor- this is going to come into 2nd place of my all time favorite peanut sauce! We tried the pad Thai and the pad kee mow- medium w extra hot oil on the side (Glad to say I didn't get charged 2.75 for less than an oz of hot oil this time! ) We also ordered the mango sticky rice - it was lacking the coconut sauce when served but they didn't mind getting us more. Everything was delicious and I will definitely be dining in vs take out moving forward however I will say the waitress we had was young and not very attentive while we were there and had to flag her down a few times for small things! My husband & I loved this place. It reminded of us Madam ma'am's. Dare I say better????! 10/10 so good! The service was nice. We didn't speak much with the only person we saw but she took our order promptly and filled our drinks when they got low. No complaints. The food. PHENOMENAL! I really wish I had taken pictures but I was so hungry. We ordered the Thom Kha, the mango salad and the Pad See Ewe. It was allllll delicious. I wish the thom kha had just a touch more broth and lime to it, but it was still so very tasty! The mango salad was on point with just the right amount of spice (we asked for medium). Ordered delivery and got tofu/vegetarian versions of the pad thai and pineapple fried rice, plus cheese rolls. The pineapple fried rice was delicious--the seasoning was perfect, and I got it mild, which wasn't spicy but had a nice little kick. I do wish it had more pineapple, though. Both entrees came with plenty of tofu, which I appreciated. The cheese rolls were a delightful surprise--cream cheese in a fried wonton roll, what's not to love? The green sauce paired really well with them. We have tried this spot twice now , one takeout and one time eating there. Both times excellent We tried the Pad See Ewe , Khao Soii, Taste of Ginger, Gyoza and Tofu spring roll. Pretty self explanatory when you enter to order. They sit you down , ask for drinks and you know the rest. To me in my humble opinion I believe this was a really great spot for a date it's looking nice and clean inside , it's modern but also authentic to the culture at the same time. Nice place. ALTHOUGH today the ac was out maybe in the spot but it was a bit hot in there, but they had those swamp coolers in there to accommodate us which was nice. My Main dish was 23 bucks for a lot of food and quality. The app/starter was 8 bucks for 3 rolls and looked liked 6 for the spring rolls The egg rolls were 8 bucks for 4 rolls. The price was affordable and reasonable. I tried to take picture of the before but I honestly couldn't help myself lol. This business has QUALITY, AND EXPENSE it's pricey but not too pricey just look at the menu and browse. The food quality was immaculate so I have no complaints. Great job ! This is by far one of the best Thai restaurants around the area. The Tom Yum and wonton soups are among the best I have tried. I've had a number of dishes there but the yellow curry is outstanding. BarnYen has steadily improved over time, adding more traditional dishes to their menu. I've been a handful of times now, and with each visit, I've noticed things getting better. Khao Soi ($23): The broth was thick and flavorful. I wasn't sure about the breaded chicken breast at first, but it worked surprisingly well, the katsu soaking up the broth. The pickled greens balanced the sweet and creaminess. The portion size was generous. Eggplant Horapha with Ground Pork ($16): This was my favorite dish. It was hearty, and the eggplant wasn't oily. Like their Ka Pra Pow, they don't skimp on basil. Curry Puffs (2pcs for $8): Crispy and flaky on the outside, with a warm, nicely spiced potato filling. Surprisingly jumbo in size! Papaya Salad ($12): Well-spiced and full of flavor. The sauce actually had a good thick consistency and clung to the papaya, making every bite flavorful and enjoyable. So I ended up getting the Khao Soii. And oh my goodness!! It was so delicious and flavorful. A little kick to it, but not too spicy. The breaded chicken was done very well, and was very tasteful. My neighborhood is considered by my friends and admittedly myself as a food desert. There just aren't many options let alone good food. I can make a much better argument against that now since BarnYen showed up! Excellent service, authentic delicious food and fair price; what more can you ask for? My favorite dishes: Pad Kee Mao I recommend getting ground pork but chicken is a healthier option that is pretty good as well. What makes this dish phenomenal is the not only the flavorful meat but the sauce that comes with it. Pour a little of it over your rice and meat and it adds a nice spicy extra flavor kick. I also love the deep fried egg that comes with it. Pad Thai I've tried so many different places that serves Pad Thai and it's not easy to get this dish just right. It's either too tangy, too salty, too bland, too sweet... BarnYen hits the right spot every time! I've been to BarnYen more times than I remember and I'm so impressed how consistently good this dish is. I love how authentic they are and it shows in their decor with good Thai music as well. Finally, a new Thai Restaurant in the Hutto/Round Rock/Pflugerville area has arrived. And thankfully, it's a really good one. BarnYen by Thai Spice is a a huge addition to the somewhat sparse Asian cuisine options we have. We went with their appetizer sampler which included spring rolls, egg rolls, cheese roll, coconut shrimp, shrimp tempura, chicken satay, and shumai which were all a great way to start the meal. My wife and I split the Pad Thai with chicken and Panang curry with pork, both at hot level spiciness. The food was fantastic. Super flavorful, authentic, and just the right amount of spice. We were able to watch the cooks prepare the food as their kitchen is out in the open. Our server was very kind and attentive. The vibes in the restaurant were very chill and welcoming. The papaya salad has the option of with or without anchovies. While I thought I liked anchovies, I quickly realized that the taste of anchovies completely overpowered the dish and didn't allow the freshness of the papaya salad to shine. I would strongly recommend ordering it without anchovies or ordering the anchovies on the side if you are unsure about your feelings about anchovies. I am very grateful that they offer not having it! The Khao soi was absolutely delicious. The deep flavor really resonated with me, and reminded why this is my favorite Thai dish. The one criticism I had is that they used fried chicken in the curry, which quickly became soggy, even before we had a chance to eat it. All of the other times I've eaten Khao Soi was a chicken leg or meat that had just been marinated in the soup itself, deepening both the chicken and soups flavor. I would've liked it a lot more if the protein was able to stand out as it usually does! If you've never tried Khao Soi, I still recommend trying it here because the flavors were definitely on point. Overall the service was great and the food was authentic, but the food was a little expensive for my taste, especially with the Khao Soi being $23. read more

Heard all the hype about their Ka prow and wanted to try. It was a bit too salty for my taste. Didn't have much of the umami flavor as much as I expected it to. However, it was still good and stood out compared to other spots in Austin. The pad se ew was flavorful. My least favorite was their steak. It's a small restaurant but very nice inside. I think there were only two waitresses. Although the food was good, my husbands meal took so long to be ready. He ordered the pepper steak, while my daughter ordered chicken fried rice and I ordered the pad Thai. We were done eating by the time his food came out. Our waitress wasn't very friendly. The one issue at this location is the parking is very limited near the restaurant but there's some rock path and a gym parking lot nearby. Seriously though, the pad thai here is so good. Cutting straight to the chase: the food here is solid. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. We ordered the Thai iced tea, crab fried rice and the slow cooked pork short ribs panang. 4.25 stars! Finally, a decent Thai place on the East side of 130! We came to try BarnYen for lunch on Saturday during their second official opening week, and it wasn't too crowded. The vibe was enjoyable - the space is nice and cozy, with Thai pop music playing in the background. Ordered the Pad Kee Mao with pork and the ground pork Pad Ga Pow to eat there, as well as the Basil Fried Rice and Slow Cook Ribs Penang to go. All the flavors were good, and spice was actually spicy, which we very much enjoyed! Pad Kee Mao was probably our favorite out of the dishes we got, followed closely by the Pad Ga Pow, then Ribs, then Fried Rice. We're looking forward to coming back soon to try more dishes. So happy to have a new Thai restaurant nearby that's easily comparable to the other highly rated Thai restaurants in Austin! I've tried about 7-8 different dishes so far, the best of them include the pad kee mao and the pad thai. I might enjoy this Pad Thai more than Sip Saam Thai's pad thai which has been our favorite for years. The other dishes haven't really stood out as much, all the different types of fried rice entrees lack a depth of flavor, it's almost a little plain tasting. Never had an issue with takeout or dining in, they're great at accommodating requests and they're all pretty nice! With that said, the pad kee mao and paid thai are done so phenomenally that it overlooks any of the downsides of the other dishes. read more
