From Toronto to Austin - atx is the perfect city for this. It's a "ghost kitchen" and I personally have never had a problem with it. You basically place your order and pick up the food. I recommend the sampler - you get a little bit of everything. My favorite is the aburi salmon and tuna. I revisit this place quite often and can't say the same about many restaurants I've tried in atx lol. Highly recommend checking this place and its sister location aburi tora out read more

Aburi Oshi Sushi - Sushi Bars Near Me - Austin, Texas

Aburi Oshi provided sushi for a SwiftFit pop-up event at Tiger Lilly, a cocktail lounge and event space in Downtown Austin. With extreme calm and patience, the two chefs created and served hundreds of beautiful sushi using the groundbreaking concept of flame-seared sushi--a technique that marries traditional Japanese sushi making with proprietary sauces and flame-searing. Each person received two boats containing a combo of two pieces of rectangular sushi - one with tuna and one with salmon. Each was topped with their proprietary sauce and a jalapeño. Best sushi I ever had! read more

one of my FAV spots in austin for a quick but delicious bite! I absolutely love this place and would highly suggest you checking it out - it's located in bar ellis right outside of the fairgrounds in downtown austin! think across from the desnudo truck! I love their oshi so much and they are consistently filling, delicious, and well prepared. I typically go for the salmon, but the shrimp and tuna are also so insanely delicious! Four piece for about $11 is also a steal i'd say for fresh and delicious sushi! I also recently tried a piece of the California roll and it was delicious too! I have had the hand rolls in the past and really enjoyed the hamachi one!! I really don't think you can go wrong with anything here, it's always 10/10. I will continue coming here for the great food and great service :) read more

It's okay - I tried this place for pick up on the Sunday afternoon. I got the sampler to share with my husband. I thought $32 is a pretty steep price for the dish. I only liked 2 of the pieces. I thought there was too much rice and it was hard. The fish was very thin and not very fresh. Overall - I don't recommend this ghost kitchen. Pretty to look at though. read more

I wanted to give this place another try and ordered a poke bowl, and it was the worst poke bowl I've ever had. The fish was so fishy, and there was barely any rice or fish for how expensive the bowl was. The fish was so poorly cut into small strips, and it looked nothing like the picture. Quality control and food taste are abysmal. Beyond overpriced. read more

We had okay-tasting sushi from the popup at the Japan fest. Our overall experience doesn't quite justify the high price point. The quality is just okay, not exceptional, and while the presentation is quite aesthetically pleasing, the flavors don't stand out enough to warrant the price or even going back. It's the kind of place that looks upscale but leaves you feeling like you paid more for the ambiance than the food. read more

Saw the posting from when where what Austin this week and decided I wanted to give it a shot. After all... it's Michelin recognized right? We placed an order from the ghost kitchen up north, and decided to get the Combo E, Yellowtail, and Spicy Tuna Oshi. All of the pieces were just alright, nothing special, with the exception of the yellowtail. The yellowtail was inedible. Literally. It was extremely fishy and had a rubbery texture when you bit into it. For the price point we paid, we were extremely unhappy with this "Michelin recognized" restaurant. read more

what's the point of having fish on there if it's going to be as thin as your fingernail. you're paying for rice and flavorful mousse/sauce on top cause that's all you get taste. I can't even enjoy the fish cause the sauce/mousse toppings were so overwhelmingly strong with barely any actual fish. If you want modern unique sushi, i'd just go to Blu. If you want more traditional sushi with quality fish, go to Maru. :/ Knew it was too good to be true. if anything please lighten on the salt content of the sauce. it's so salty. read more

I had seen this place all over TikTok and finally decided to try it during my recent weekend trip to Austin. This spot operates out of a commercial kitchen and is only available for takeout, but ordering and picking up was super easy. We ordered the Combo E and the 6-piece Salmon Oshi. The presentation was stunning and held up nicely for takeout sushi. Every piece we tried was well-seasoned and flavorful enough that we didn't need soy sauce. However, I found it quite heavy and wished there was less rice. I wasn't very impressed by the fish itself, as the toppings and sauce seemed to overpower the flavor. Overall, the presentation was lovely, and the sushi was good, but it wasn't a life-changing experience. read more

Food was delicious, I had an order of Aburi Salmon Oshi. For the price and the lovely location, it'd be a disservice to yourself not to visit. Staff was wonderful, Jennifer took my order and was a joy to chat with. They do NOT take cash - however you can tip in cash! read more

Saw this place all over tik tok, so I decided to give it a try for lunch (plus I had a grub hub credit haha). I got the salmon lover combo with is 6 pieces of their flame seared pressed sushi, and 4 pieces of a spicy salmon roll. I also added a tuna handroll and the yellow tail nachos. Delivery was prompt, but sadly, the food was wildly sub par especially considering the price. I totally get the concept of the flame seared sushi, but at the end of the day, it's still sushi and we still want to taste the fish. But that's impossible with the fish pieces are like, a millimeter thick. The thinnest piece of fish ever cut in the history of sushi, and then you sear it and cover it with sauce and place it on a brick of rice. It doesn't taste bad but- if you like fish, this ain't it. Three of my pieces also had some salmon in in the rice brick so that one was a little better. The spicy salmon roll reminded me of costco sushi- it tasted refrigerated and not fresh. The handroll was fine, but the fish not overly flavorful and not enough considering the fish to rice ratio. But then, the yellow tail nachos. What are those?! I THINK there was pieces of fish in there but its hard to tell because it was DROWNING, SWIMMING in some sort of bizarre mayo sauce with the consistency of water and most of the cup was filled with raw red pepper (???) and jalapeno. So my palate was immediately blown out by the jalapeno seeds. The chips were absolutely the $1.99 brand from HEB out of a bag. It was disgusting. I can't really see myself ordering this again. read more

it feels like they value aesthetics over actual fish quality - i was excited to see a new sushi takeout option in Austin, but was slightly disappointed. combo e: (yellow tail, shrimp, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, salmon, tuna) x 2 to me, seared fish can easily veer into a bit more fishy tasting than true nigiri and this proves my point. while the flavor combinations were pretty cool with the jalapeño/wasabi mayo, i think the razor thin amounts of fish did not shine whatsoever. the amount of rice in each bite was pretty overwhelming to the point where my jaw was tired mid meal. they are also a ghost kitchen so we just went to mueller instead. while perfect for a picture, they're better places in austin for sushi read more

The sushi here is okay! I had been seeing this spot pop up all over my Tiktok feed because of its Michelin association, so I had to try it. They operate out of a ghost kitchen, so I ordered for delivery. I ordered the most popular sushi box that had all of the various types of sushi pieces that they make. It came with 12 pieces for $32. Before I give my review, I want to preface that I am not a big fan of seared sushi, but I was willing to give this place a try because of the hype around it. While the fish tasted fresh and the serving sizes were large, I felt like there was too much sauce on each of the pieces. Instead of tasting fish, I primarily tasted rice and sauce. Most of the pieces had a sort of creamy sauce (that seemed mayo-based) that was too overpowering. It made eating them way too rich and left many of the pieces tasting the same. It also made it difficult to differentiate what fish each piece had. Overall, the presentation was great and consistent, but I think I will stick to regular sushi. It was a great experience trying it, which is why I will give it 4 stars, but I would likely not order it again. Overall 6.5/10. read more

Ordered via Uber Eats. I enjoyed combo A (salmon, shrimp, tuna and yellowtail) overall, filling bites with a nice seared flavor. However, the yellowtail pieces tasted so off-putting that I could barely stomach even one of the three included. I'll order something else next time to exclude the yellowtail in the set. There's not many easy sushi takeout/delivery options in Austin so I welcome the addition. read more

Aburi Oshi Sushi - california temaki + miso soup + spicy combo + combo A - Sushi Bars Near Me - Austin, Texas

Ghost kitchen of a Canadian restaurant group. Yes they have a restaurant in Canada that is Michelin recommended and no this is not so I didn't buy into the hype that I've got burned on in the past with celebrity or famous restaurants opening ghost restaurants in town. However I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered their food for a weekday meal. It was hearty and it was discounted on door dash so it made a good take out meal. They specialize in pressed sushi that is flame seared so slightly cooked but not torched all the way that is dry. Hence the name. They also have rolls and hand rolls. I got the Combo E which had 2 pcs of their popular pressed sushi - a total of 12 pcs. Without discounts it is 32.95 but they had a 20% off special so I decided to splurge. 12 pcs is quite a serving so I felt satisfied at the end of the meal. The fish to rice ratio leans heavy on the rice. Its rice is quite pressed and dense. It's seasoned ok but light on the tartness - I think it's pretty standard; not mind blowing. The fish is just thin so if you are thinking about getting more protein probably not good value. If you add up all the thin pieces of fish together it is basically the same as an order of sashimi at a neighborhood sushi place so I would hope they are making money on this combo. It came with soy and wasabi but didn't need it. They have cheaper combos that range from 16-22 dollars if you want less variety. Is it like at the levels of the nice sushi places in town? No - but for a weekday meal it's a good option and the sauces and toppings on the seared fish made it quite a tasty meal. read more

Usually not a big fan of seared sushi but this was so delicious! I got the assorted tuna and salmon combo. The salmon was so fragrant and smokey, just melted in your mouth. There was a bit too much rice but other than that, I would definitely order again. I wish there was an option for dine in so we could enjoy the food there and it may even taste more fresh. read more

I've been wanting to try out this sushi after hearing people recommend it on tiktok. I placed the order on my phone and it was ready in under 15 min! I was impressed by the speed. The ghost kitchen facility is easy to navigate and I was able to quickly pick up my order. I ordered Combo E which had 2 pieces of a variety of sushi fish. I also got edamame and miso soup. The miso soup was full of flavor and had plenty of green onions. The edamame was lightly salty with pieces of fried garlics. The seasoning was thick and had a light spice. Combo E was plenty of food and a great variety. The shrimp had torched mayo which was very salty and had a umami tangy flavor from the mayo. The salmon good but nothing crazy. It had a strong torched/smoked flavor with a tiny bit spice. It also had a piece fish in the middle of the rice. The tuna was my favorite! It tasted very light, fresh and flavorful, the miso sauce was very complimentary. A nice burst of flavor without being overpowering. The spicy tuna was very spicy!! Each piece had multiple slices of peppers. It can with the tuna on top and a piece of tuna in the middle. The spicy salmon was delicious; my second favorite!! It was not very spicy. It had a deep fatty flavor that almost reminded me of bacon. I loved the crunchy onion pieces on top. The tuna and the spicy salmon make a great combo since the salmon has a heavier yet decadent taste and the tuna was a brighter yet soothing flavor. Overall the sushi was so flavorful! No soy sauce needed! It was a great switch up from classic nigiri and sushi rolls. I would like a larger pieces of fish on the sushi, the slices were a little skinny. read more

I think the biggest part of the 3 stars is the value. Maybe I don't understand the costs but I feel like ghost kitchens should not be charging such a premium for this. The flavors are good, the combos are interesting and the rice is pretty good too. My biggest issue is that there's barely any fish. Some of them have a very thin slice and some had a small extra piece in the middle. It felt like I was mostly eating rice. I got one of the combos and after tax/tip it was just over $40. I know sushi carries a premium but I can get 2-3 rolls at a traditional place for that much money. The combos is $12 pieces with too much rice and not enough fish. Can't say anything about ambiance as it's a ghost kitchen. There is none. I like the concept but it's pretty pricey for what it is read more

This spot is a hidden gem, operating out of a commercial kitchen with pick-up or delivery options (via Uber or online). I've ordered from here about 4 times, and every time has been fantastic! * Freshness: Everything is super fresh, and the crispy rice adds an amazing texture. * Flavors: The flavors are consistently great--balanced and satisfying. * Perks: If you order through Uber, they sometimes offer specials like a free roll, which is a nice bonus. If you're looking for a convenient and delicious meal, this place is absolutely worth checking out! read more

My first experience with a "ghost kitchen". I arrived and picked up my sushi from a locker. The combo E sushi was great, not fishy at all, but given the high price point please consider prior to ordering/tipping there is no service or space you enter to receive your food. Mixed feelings about it truthfully. read more

I ordered a second time and it really got better. I got two different combos and it was about 24 pieces for 2 people which is plenty. We had a hard time figuring out what was what (guess i don't know my fish well enough) so i recommend that they add a piece of paper on top that kind of labels the items. Especially the Combo E that has 6 different toppings. I just think the sauce and then searing the surface to create a smoky flavor is really good. The rice is perfect: it's compressed but still fluffy. read more

Meh. Popup located in a ghost kitchen. Pick up only. Limited menu of sushi rolls and box sushi. First U.S, location of a Michelin-starred sushi restaurant in Canada. I ordered a combo of 3 pieces of box salmon nigiri, 3 pieces of box shrimp nigiri and 4 pieces of California roll ($22.95 including miso soup). The box sushi had good flavor but not much fish. The California roll ($10.95) was mediocre. Also has a ln Aburi California Roll which had a good smoky flavor (was torched on top). Picking up my order went Ok but parking was difficult. This is NOT a restaurant so unless you want to sit at a picnic table outside, it's pick up only. Austin has plenty of excellent sushi restaurants (Kome is just around the corner). Will be interesting to see if the ghost kitchen can maintain quality or will we see the food suffer without the presence of a real sushi chef. read more

All items are fresh and extremely yummy every time I've ordered from this establishment. Highly recommend.

Oshi sushi is very delicious and unique. Sauce and garnish on top of fish give us additional flavor and sushi rice is also sweet and tasty.

We went to the vaunted Miku on a trip to Vancouver and thought it was delicious if somewhat overrated. Aburi is no Miku. For one, the sushi rice was way overcooked and mushy. Some of the worst rice I have ever had a sushi restaurant. While the fish was nicely seared, the amount of fish was so microscopically and thinly sliced that you get no protein. Most of the sushi is rice. Bad rice. I would not return. read more

This may the best sushi I've ever had here in Austin!! I can't wait to visit again and try other rolls!

Sushi was packed with a lot of rice and very very little meat. The small amount of meat on the sushi was cooked and not raw, not really sushi at that point. Also, it had very little flavor and had to be eaten with soy sauce, which is not a good sign. Got the Aburi Oshi Combo E. This had a mix of most of the menu. Recommend going somewhere else for authentic sushi. read more
