A very average ramen spot. I dont think the serving size is enough, I'm never thst full. The wings were delicious though
Review for the Rollies handroll pop up. Dined twice. 4 rolls plus mini ramen bowl for $33. Can order extra rolls, additional cost. Overall great experience, loved the toasted nori. All rolls were good. Only issue I had was the taste of the chashu in the ramen. Broth and noodles were fine. Not sure if it was just me, I couldn't eat the chashu because of a weird kinda "old" pork taste. At the second visit, I opted for chicken ramen instead. My nephew got the chashu ramen. He also said something was off about the pork.
Never tried Sazan before, but came for their new summer pop-up: Rollies by Sazan! 4 hand rolls + a mini bowl of ramen for only $33 (+ tax/tip and any add-ons) was a steal. Only served at the bar, with limited seatings per night. They were testing out a new concept and are hoping to roll our hand roll options across the standard menu in the future. Overall, I really enjoyed the hand rolls. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the ramen itself, but all of the hand rolls were spot-on, generously portioned, and well thought out. It was a great deal and I would return for the concept! QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, located in the popular 99 Ranch area with other Asian businesses. - Reservations? Yes, required for this specific experience offering. Can be booked via OpenTable, under select Experiences. FOOD RATINGS: - Bluefin tuna (5/5) - Ocean trout (5/5) - Hamachi (5/5) - Unagi (4/5) - Paitan ramen (2/5): Way too much arugula, which is bitter. The raw onion was also a no-go for me. The broth wasn't terrible, it just wasn't great. The chicken was dry, and the egg was standard. I wouldn't come here to order this. - Snow crab (5/5): Bonus hand roll for extra $. Worth it! And chef was kind enough to split it in half for us so we could both try it. Delicious, melt-in-your-mouth with the Dashi butter. - Hokkaido scallop (5/5): Another bonus hand roll for extra $. Love scallops and this one was a great bite!
Revisited after 2 years and it's still good! This place has better service, broth, and noodles than a lot of other popular ramen spots in Austin. The service here is great, super friendly staff that all seem to get along. They probably have the best vegan ramen option in town. The noodles are chewy and almost hard to tell apart from traditional style noodles. The paitan broth sets this place apart from others since it's hard to find a good creamy (like tantanmen) type ramen in Austin.
Nice ramen stop in Austin. I was over at the 99 Ranch Market picking up some grocery goods and needed a Ramen fix. There is a Korean Chicken place in the center that is worth a stop, I reviewed a while back. Anyway, today was Ramen day. I opted for the Chef special and it was good. Not quite like the Ramen in the Japanese centers of So. Cal but if you know what I am saying, you know. Not bad for Texas.
We came here with friends and I do believe it is a testament to how good the broth and noodles were as all four of our bowls were empty at the end of the evening. This place is cozy. Our party had a long day vending at a local market and we came hungry and tired. We each ordered slightly different ramen. I got the signature paitan. TBH, I was a little surprised to find a little arugula salad atop my ramen when it came out BUT wow, the nutty taste of the arugula was a pleasant surprise to my palate! The noodles had a nice bite to them, the brothy broth was flavorful down to the last spoonful, not overpoweringly salty like most ramen shops. The pork- tender, fell apart with my chopsticks! Next time I will ask for no chopped onions in my bowl. Does need it at all! This is a must return the next time we are in this area.
Always a solid experience at Sazan. I recommend the date night special: any two drinks (including cocktails!), 1 app, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts for about $60. Soft serve this round was ube and it was everything I wanted and a little more only thing I didn't love was the waffle cone, but this isn't a specialty ice cream shop. Their tonkotsu is very flavorful, and the paitan is good too.

I thought for sure this spot would get a Bib Gourmand nod from TX's Michelin wranglings. Its total game had gotten freaking tight. Amazing details like the cleanest butchered chicken wings that had perfectly seasoned dry rub and were über über über juicy that tasted like perfection every single time. Incredible servers like Lila who is the best of the best at service. Expos that kept a hawk eye on the kitchen, the food, the service, and the customer experience. Really tight ship for years. Ramen still yums, but last visit was out of step with its stellar consistency. Food prep was uneven--the glorious chicken wings were poorly butchered and just not good. Wings were dried out and meat tasted old. Edamame was overcooked. Food sitting at expo station when restaurant was empty. All of the staff seemed new except for seriously the most amazing server in the world, Lila. I even asked Lila if Sazan had changed owners bc it seemed so off. Sazan used to feel like the owners aimed for 100. It was so on point and genuinely excellent. I have uber compassion for restaurant staff, not advocating for employees to work harder here. This restaurant has been so excellent, and as a genuine fan, would love if the owners prioritized maintaining that over anything. This place rocks! The food and service was amazing. The spicy Paitan was great. Not too spicy but has a good kick. The only complaint is I'd prefer if the cilantro was cut up a little more. The prices were affordable too. Good food, good service, good prices! I walked into the restaurant thinking I was about to pay a lot since it looked so nice and fancy inside. Definitely will be coming back!
an upscale attempt at ramen. i came here to try this place out since i heard from several people it was good...i was sadly disappointed. it is also on the pricier side. i tried the spicy paitan, the broth was the only good part. the pork chashu was sad, at first glance it looked plain but i was hoping it would be in turn very tender. nothing special. the egg was weirdly sweet. for the signature ramen, the arugula was a little odd. i had weird interactions with the service, it lacked warmth and overall didn't make for a comfortable experience.
Still our favorite ramen spot. Consistency every time with service and food. I wanted to try their new special oyster ramen, but I can't seem to break away from the signature paitan. I do want to come back and try it, it sounded delightful.
Sazan is a nice, reliable spot for ramen, especially if you're near The Crescent! Plenty of seating indoors, good for both small and large groups. Making a reservation ahead of time can be helpful if you have a large party and/or are coming during their busy hours (weekend evenings especially). Service is good, and you get your food within a reasonable time. Parking is hit or miss depending on when you go (again, weekend evenings are notoriously bad), but just hang in there and you'll be able to find a spot. I've been to Sazan three times now and the Ma-Yu (Black) ramen is my go-to! Ma-Yu (Black) Ramen ($15.25, 9/10) - My favorite so far! Great flavors with roasted garlic & a bunch of toppings (veggies/cabbage, menma, ajitama) and either chicken or pork chashu. I got the pork chashu, and it's soft but on the thinner side. Paitan Ramen ($14.25, 7/10) - Tastes fine. It's topped with arugula, so maybe skip this one if you're not a fan of that. Otherwise the broth and ajitama are good, the red onions are kinda just there. As with all the ramen options, you can choose pork or chicken chashu. One of my friends is vegetarian and got the Just Like Paitan ($15.25) this most recent time, and liked it. Not much in terms of toppings, although it does come with the option of an "ATX" side (tempura, assortment of veggies). Good option for anybody's who's vegan or vegetarian. Overall Sazan is consistent in its flavors and the prices are reasonable, which is why I've been back multiple times! Great ramen option in the Highland area.

I got the kai miso which was their seasonal ramen and it was amazing. One of the cleaner bowls of ramen in Austin with a really flavorful broth that didn't feel too heavy. The only thing that felt a little off was the cabbage. It didn't really fit with the rest of the bowl and kind of threw off the balance a bit. Service was fast and efficient, no complaints there. The ambiance was super quiet, clean, and modern, which made it a really nice place to just sit and enjoy the food. read more

I was able to make a reservation the night of and we got seated 10 minutes before. Upon walking in, we were greeted and sat at our table. The waiter was super informative and kind. I order the spicy paitan and was the perfect amount of heat. I almost ordered a ramen to go AFTER I finished mine, that's how amazing this was. If I could give it 10 stars I would. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the best ramen I've had by far. The broth is rich, creamy, full of flavor and all the herbs and toppings, with the small tomatoes bursting - did not expect that at all but was pleasantly surprised. I definitely plan to come back and get my second round of noodles soon! read more
Food: 7/10, service: 1/10 We had a group of 7 people and we were treated very poorly. The waitresses barely checked up on us but we didn't really mind. When we were paying, we didn't get the itemized receipt so we didn't know how much each thing costed. The waitress told us that she already added the 20% guarantee tips since we were a big group, and my friend (who was paying) didn't hear that so he was about to add more tips onto it (like $2-$5 more), but we told him so he removed the additional tips, and the waitress was really annoyed about that. After my friend signed the receipt, she took back the device violently and walked away while shaking her head. I think her name was Reagan D. (shown on receipt that you get after you paid). I understand it was mean of us to talk about tipping right in front of the waitress, but I don't understand how can you be mad after you're already getting 20% tips that you yourself guaranteed? She didn't say a single word to us after that and every time she passed by our table she would give us side-eye. This is my second time eating here and the first time was great, but this time the service was horrible. read more

This spot was so nice, upscale casual with a great interior and attentive staff. The ramen was so good, I got the spicy paitan with beef and it really was spicy but so good! Also the Sunday school drink was so fresh and good! The coolest thing about this was that it's located in a strip mall of other Japanese restaurants and shops. Can't wait to go back! read more

Got the Ma-Yu black ramen this time and thought it was great! The broth has the not too thin, not too thick consistency that I like. All the ingredients are yummy too-love the bamboo shoots. We did get a reservation because we had a larger group but I don't believe wait times are long at all especially since a lot of the tables are communal. You share the space with other people. The prices for ramen are reasonable but the portions compared to other ramen spots are a bit smaller. I wasn't hungry after eating the ramen but could probably fit in a dessert. Sazan looks more romantic when it's dark and they have the candles dimly lighting up the restaurant. read more
Other than the decoration and service, there was little else I enjoyed here. This is an example of 'modernized-Asian-comfort food'. The classic signs are modern decor, unauthentic flavors, minimal ingredients, and small portions. While there was indeed quite an impactful flavor in the soup, I didn't think the chili bomb paired very well with the chicken broth. The slabs of chicken on top were okay, not notably enjoyable but not the worst chicken ramen I've had. Overall, I don't recommend this place if you're looking for authentic ramen but if you're looking for a nice place to sit and chat, then it's fine. If it had branded itself as authentic, I likely would've given it a lower rating but since the website claims to be a fusion, I have a 3 star. Personally I think the portions should at least be larger. Most places at least give a full egg, not just half. read more
Hands down the best ramen in Austin. End of story. It's the quality of the broth, the soup, the limited menu (ramen focus) that you know they put the time and craft into the dishes. They offer amazing dumpling appetizers that support the next door neighbor dumpling business. The fried chicken app is good too but I'm biased. I love anything fried chicken hehe. My go to is the black miso ramen with extra protein for the gains. Add a fire bomb it'll be worth it if you like spice! read more

The only reason they are missing a star is because I paid $5 for 2 small slices of pork and there was no onions as pictured wicked irritated the hell outta me; the curry wings were "okay" but the spicy broth was flavorful (not as spicy as I wanted so thankfully I ordered an extra spicy bomb on the side) definitely ordering again (minus the extra) read more

Really enjoyed this place, best Vegetarian Ramen spot in Austin so far. Love that you can get any of their ramen with the vegan broth! Ambience was great and server was super friendly. As a big fan of spicy food, I loved that they had "spice bombs" of different levels to get on the side (1 spice bomb is good for 2 people). We tried both the Classic and Extra Spicy and preferred the extra spicy. Tip: Get a side of minced garlic for your bowl! Our go-to spot for ramen in Austin! Even without a reservation, Sazan does what they can to get you in and through a wait-list. While your name and number are added (they'll text you) you can walk around the other shops. Ambiance is spacious and clean and service is also met well. Can't go wrong with the Signature Paitan, and if you like spicy there's an option to order that or ask for spice on the side. For drinks, they do a smoked old fashioned with Japanese whisky as well as other spirit favorites. And if you're feeling non-alcoholic, they have tea options. Pro-tip: plan to ask for hot water refill for your tea. The matcha soft-served was okay, but had a cute presentation to it. read more
I love a good ramen place but I haven't had ramen in Austin in years since I moved out of town. Coming back to visit, my friend took me to his favorite ramen place which is Sazan! I would say, this place is not what I expected but I'm so glad I got to try because I also love it! When we walked in we were greeted by a host and seated swiftly to a table. I was struck by the aesthetics of how simple this place is! It's very light and simplistic decoration makes the place interesting to walk in, almost like the lobby of a museum. I wasn't able to eat the chashu due to it being friday lent but I did still get the chicken broth base with eggs for protien source. We also got takoyaki which was really good! I'm not usually a fan of the bonito flakes because of the saltiness but I love it! The ramen when it came out smelled so fragrant. I tasted the soup and it was very savory for a chicken base which was delicious! I did ask for more chili oil because I like a good spicy ramen broth. I would say the spice is definitely there after a few slurps because by the end of the meal, I was sweating alittle bit but I overall enjoyed all the food! The flavor and noodles are perfect! This place is very spread out and able to fit parties of 2-6. I would say any more would be alittle tight but I'm sure they can work things out. Price point is pretty average and worth the food! Saw this place on social media and decided to give it a try! Located in a busy shopping center sazan ramen specializes in ramen and other popular japanese dishes. The service was amazing and the place has plenty of seating! The ramen was good, but nothing groundbreaking.. the broth was kinda salty and the felt like there could've been more noodles? And my appetizers were just okay. But im glad i got to try it! read more

Had a party of 2 today for dinner. Walk in and got seated fast and then lady came by and say hi and became the server for the meal time and took few minutes to look over Manu choices for vegan food , and asked if we been there and she took drinks down and I got to mix 2 different hot tea choices together and came out right and took food vegan choices down and it came out right . Now my friend asked for water cold and side of lime but the lime took over 10 minutes to come and I had to ask the lady to bring it out again and she said oh I forgot all together about it . So that had to be fixed . Got soy beans and salt on the side , got vegan pot stickers and sides . Came out and right . Bill was 68$ and top tip was 35$ and was nice got food boxed up and extra napkins asked for and chopsticks and teas to go . Music was not to loud so was nice . Downside that was lots of black vents dusting needed to be done and center lights was needed to be cleaned can see all the black dust and dirt , bar area floor was needed to be cleaned seen stuff on the floor. Was not busy as all at the bar area around 730 pm for dinner. read more

Terrific food, service, and drinks. I came here after a hot mess of a SXSW Music event (why do all the evening ones try to scam people out of money)? Anyway Lila was a terrific bartender - I used to bartend myself so I know. The Smoky Old Fashioneds were reasonably priced have a great presentation, as were all the other drinks. Whiskey people SHOULD come here - lots of Japanese whiskeys including super reasonable flights. The ramen is excellent too. This will be a standby dinner and drinks place for me. read more
Came here after landing in AUS bc I was craving ramen. Discovered this place was in a little Asian village with lots of Asian food, bakeries, hot pot, bbq and grocery stores. Even had a Daiso. Ramen choices was a little limited but their Paitsn base was great. Service was polite and fast. The booths were a little dirty and it seemed like they focused on wiping down tables but not chairs. The chair I had, the top flew off and had to switch it out. read more
