The old belly was feeling a bit neglected and I was in the mood for a Bento lunch and lo and behold, I look up and I'm at Bento Teppanyaki. I entered and was warmly greeted and if I was dining-in, I could choose a table. The contemporary decor was quite pleasant and inviting. This venue is Asian Fusion with Chinese and Japanese dishes. I ordered the Bento Box that one builds from a choice of entrees, appetizers, rice, and soups. I selected the Teriyaki Shrimp, 2 fried Spring Rolls for my appetizer, white rice and Egg Drop soup. I was a little frustrated with this spot because although they have a Japanese name, the food is entirely Chinese. Nevertheless, I ordered the Hunan Chicken in a bento box to give it a try and it was fine. A little too salty and lacking depth in flavor, but enjoyable. I don't think it's ever been super busy when we've went, so I can't say how they do during those rush hour times. There are several vegetarian options and the house special tofu is really good. Stumbled upon this brand new spot (opened Wednesday) while shopping at Marshalls. They're offering 10% off for the first two weeks. There was a bit of a wait for takeout. I went with a bento box. Unfortunately it was very underwhelming. I opted for spring rolls, sesame shrimp, white rice and egg drop soup. Everything was bland. The shrimp had a VERY strong fishy flavor, so I stopped eating them after the first one. I feel like the space, and service are good. Hopefully the other dishes are better. They just opened up recently; as of March according to the server. I'd been to this plaza a few years back but had not been able to find it again so added Bonus My server was very attentive and even asked the kitchen if I could add the green beans as a side (I could not ) but I opted to try the rainbow roll instead and wasn't dissatisfied. The fish was fresh and the wasabi nice and spicy. The ginger didn't even have that acidic aftertaste that you normally get from it sitting around for extended periods of time; it was really refreshing. They make their teriyaki chicken Chinese stir fry style with mushrooms and onions, which I never really get used to; having grown up eating it grilled and lightly basted but the flavor was good and the mushrooms n sauce were excellent. The veggie dumplings were great too - hot and crisp n not greasy at all. The star tho, and I know this is wearied but I'm old school. Was the egg drop soup!!! I LOVE egg drop soup. I ordered for the first time recently from Bento Teppanyaki and I ordered to-go through Yelp. My order was ready within the promised time and was freshly prepared and very hot! While I wasn't a huge fan of the wonton soup due to it tasting a bit bland, I did really enjoy the kung pao shrimp! It was savory, salty, and spicy which is a winning flavor combination IMO. The veggies in the dish were zucchini, water chestnuts, red bell pepper, and jalapeño. There were also some chili peppers and peanuts, as well. I thought this was Japanese, but it is not Japanese food. The service was great. Besides the lack of taste it is not filling. I tried the pork egg roll which was fried very hard and almost burnt. Fabulous experience here! We came here for my mom's birthday. Shane, our server was so polite and handled each customer with great respect. Whenever he wasn't attending to us he was making sure to-go orders and other customers were all happy. I found this place by mistake and am so happy I did. My husband and I both got bent boxes which was fun for the sake of variety. All the food was tasty but I was blown away by the General Tso's Tofu! As a vegetarian, I find the tofu options are sometimes bland but Bento Teppanyaki did a fantastic job. The quality of the food far exceeds the price.
