4 sushi rolls. Very fresh ingredients, delicious too.
    Annie L.

I would really give this place a 3.5 but will round up to 4. We came here Christmas night after some Christmas activities and were delighted to see that this restaurant was open. We only had the sushi and not the hibachi so this review is only on the sushi. But we could hear cheers and expressions of delight coming from the hibachi tables and it looked like fun with the show the grillers usually put on. The food here is quite good, but not stellar. We had 4 different sushi rolls, a calamari appetizer and the tempura appetizer. I was a little disappointed that the batter on the fried calamari wasn't lighter. It was ok, but a little on the thick side for me. Ditto with the tempura, the batter could have been lighter but the tempura was still good. I'll say the sushi rolls were nicely done and the ingredients very fresh. The service was very good but the server forgot to bring my soup. But all things considered, it was a good experience.

Spicy tuna roll with bug in the food!

We ordered a spicy tuna roll and lobster roll. Both didn't look fresh.when we were eating hesitantly we Found a dead bug in one of the roll. When we showed the bug to waiter/manager, he quietly took away without apologizing or anything. He even charged us the food.

Great experience. First time stop here and I was hesitant thinking it was just a hibachi grill. I sat at the bar. Bartender was attentive land helpful from beginning to end. It wasn't busy on Monday so the restaurant was very quiet. I tried the spicy edamame and the crab puff for an appetizers and the mouth on fire sushi. Delicious! I will definitely be adding this to my list of sushi stops

Mouth On Fire Roll Fried Calamari

Started out with fried calamari, oh man did that hit the spot. The sauce that was served along side the calamari was to die for. They work so perfectly together. Mouth on fire roll was next, doesn't it look beautiful? Guess how it taste? Beautiful. Service was phenomenal. Can't wait to go back. It will be my third time dining at Nagoya.

Nagoya is located close to Anderson Mill. Parking is plentiful, and Nagoya even has hibachi grills for those who want to be entertained by the art of making food. The food is moderately priced, and the service is decent too. Nagoya is pretty good for their lunch menus. Their ramen is freaking huge, and the broth is not too salty. I would recommend their appetizers rather than their sushi.

I started with the gyozas -- filled with chicken and veggies, and really affordable at around $6 for 6. The sauce was delicious, and I shared them with my family, who also thought they were great. You can get them fried or steamed; I went with steamed. Next, I ordered the salmon avocado roll, and it was literally the best roll I've ever eaten. I dipped it in soy sauce, and for those who avoid preservatives, they even offer a soy sauce with just soy, wheat, salt, and water -- perfect for me! I ended up ordering four orders of six rolls (yes, they were that good) and ate them all by myself. Each order was about $9, with $7 for just salmon -- avocado was an add-on. The Sexy Mango roll was my mom's favorite -- she said it tasted refreshing. We also tried sashimi sushi, which was served in a cool cup and tasted amazing. My brother went all out and ate 30 avocado rolls, and the chef was kind enough to give him a super-sized sushi with extra avocado and rice -- I was so jealous! I also tried the Beef Bulgogi, which was delicious and priced at about $13 -- very reasonable. Around 4:00 pm on Saturday, the restaurant wasn't crowded, which made it perfect to enjoy our meal. The K-pop music in the background was a fun touch, too. Seriously, the salmon avocado rolls were the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be back next time I'm nearby!

Our server was super nice and immediately took our order. The rolls, because they are part of the combo, were more on the simple side. Both the yellowtail and tuna roll were really good. The quality of the fish seemed decent, but I wish there was more of it in the roll. And I wish the wasabi was a little stronger. The chicken udon bowl was probably my favorite of the night. The udon itself was the perfect texture and really bouncy. The broth was deep and had a rich sweetness. And the chicken was really juicy. The chashu ramen was okay though. I wish the noodles were cooked a little more, I wish the pork was more tender, and I wish the egg was jammier since the whole yolk was basically hard boiled.

TLDR: Pro: authentic Japanese restaurant with food prepped to order…read more Con: lunch menu is minimum two item order which wasn't clear, and they prepare the food with way too much salt The restaurant is authentic which was a huge win for me. The lunch menu wasn't very straightforward so when I got my bill in the end I was a little surprised to see it came to $18, instead of $10. I guess I could have asked when I ordered, but the menu clearly lists mackerel is $8.50, so I didn't quite get that the lady/owner/mgr meant you have to order two entree items for the lunch menu, so its not like a typical lunch special at a set price for the listed price. It felt a little deceiving so it wasnt a great feeling, i guess i should have picked up on it when she said two items. But I wish it could have clearly stated that on the menu when i was reviewing it, i would have just opted for one entree on the menu instead had i realized that sooner. The fish was fine but $20/worth idk. I will say the meal was actually cooked to order. The downside for me in terms of the meal was the salt bomb all over my meal, starting with the salad which was a very small amount of greens to the amount of salad dressing they topped it with. The miso soup was made with miso but very strongly seasoned making me want to water it down. The edamame were good but once again so much added salt on it. The mackerel was good, but yet again the excessive amount of salt made it very difficult to enjoy the meal from start to finish. The vibe is a small dining area with minimal frill, and a small counter with seating where the sushi chef is to make rolls/sashimi. The lady is very attentive and the food is made with care, I just wish they would hold back on the salt. I left feeling very parched due to the amount of sodium I ingested from the preparation. Overall this restaurant is a great Japanese restaurant, I wouldn't mind going back. If - minus the miso soup, I wonder if I could request no added salt to my food in the cook process. Aside from how they may have prepped the fish before cooking, if for example it gets pre-seasoned in salt that's one thing, but no additional salt when cooking. I recommend you give it a shot, its a rare find to see a Japanese restaurant ran my a Japanese family, which was a nice surprise.

For roughly $60 the wife was full and we had roughly 6 dishes and one cocktail (I was still slightly hungry). Think of it as more of a tapas style ordering. Soft shelled crab - My absolute favorite and by far the best dish! Crispy from the breading, soft shell and subtle crab taste, and to top it off the fried egg adds some creaminess from the yolk. Not greasy at all due to the way it's fried. And who doesn't like a little microgreen to add some freshness to it?! It could likely use a little more salt, and this particular time the yolk was a overcooked. Sushi Tacos - 2nd favorite! You get two, and frankly I prefer not sharing these (although my wife forced me to). It's such a unique dish. Each taco is palm sized. They take a yummy piece of laver (seaweed), coat one side and deep fry it to make a nice hard shell taco casing. Then they fill it with sushi rice, top it with plentiful tuna, add a slice of avocado, and top it with micro greens. Refreshing, light (once you squeeze the tiny lime on top), slightly filling due to the rice, and absolutely delicious. Takoyaki - I'm not a fan, but the wife is. For me it's a texture thing. Even when visiting Japan I didn't enjoy this dish. Honestly though I do think it deserves far more bonito flakes, as the dish is meant to look alive from the waving flakes. Honestly we love this place so much, I always get engrossed in the food so much I forget to take pics. The overall ambience is chill and refined, albeit no white tableclothes, but it acts like it should have them. Everything they serve is made from scratch including their noodles and broth but the pricing is incredibly reasonable. Their customer service is top-notch which is just the icing on the cake! FAST FACTS: * Parking - located in a shopping center with a large parking lot * Reservations - no but you put your name into a tablet when you arrive to join the queue if there's a wait * Online ordering - available for pickup on their website * Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays * Weekly specials available until sold out (check their Instagram or Facebook) SERVICE - We arrived at 6:35 pm on a Sunday and were 4th in line after joining the queue through the tablet. Our table was ready at 7:00 pm and one of the workers kept us updated about the status of our table several times while we waited. Once seated, there is a QR code on the table to scan and place your order. Our server brought water to the table right away and checked on us throughout the meal to make sure we had what we needed. All of our food was prepared and delivered to the table about 10 minutes after ordering. I was incredibly impressed by the customer service! PRICING - The total was $67.65 after tax ($5.15) but before tip for a chicken karaage ($8), signature shoyu ($17) with extra spinach ($1.50) and extra kikurage mushrooms ($1.50), classic tonkotsu ($17), and black tonkotsu ($17.50). I think the pricing is reasonable for the quality of ingreidents and portion size. CHICKEN KARAGAGE (8/10): The chicken is incredibly juicy and tender while the coating is crispy! The Japanese mayo on the side for dipping is delicious. It comes with several large pieces so it's a great option for an appetizer to share. SIGNATURE SHOYU (8/10): This is a Tokyo-style shoyu ramen with chicken and dashi broth that's savory, umami, and a little tangy. It comes with pork chashu (I subbed chicken for no extra cost), homemade noodles, spinach, bamboo shoot, scallion, nori, Japanese fish cake, and half a soy egg. I added extra spinach and kikurage mushrooms for $1.50 each. CLASSIC TONKOTSU (9/10): This has a rich and creamy pork broth with a savory umami flavor. It comes with pork chashu, homemade noodles, kikurage mushrooms, beni shoga, scallions, nori, and half a soy egg. This is definitely a must-order if it's your first time! BLACK TONKOTSU (8/10): This has a rich and creamy pork broth with black garlic oil. It comes with pork chashu, homemade noodles, kikurage mushrooms, beni shoga, scallions, nori, garlic chips, and half a soy egg. All the flavors pair well together but the garlic does overpower the pork flavor in the broth (but I think that's to be expected if you're ordering a black garlic tonkotsu). Honestly, there's nothing not to love about Ramen512... from the service to the ingredients to the pricing, it has everything you could want and more. Eventually, I'd love to try everything on the menu because there are so many great options! The interior has counter seating like what you would traditionally see at a ramen shop in Japan as well as tables so it's perfect for enjoying a meal by yourself or with your entire family. I would recommend Ramen512 to anyone in the north Austin area looking for authentic Japanese ramen at a reasonable price!

The pork was insanely good. The portion size was great as well, and there were just enough noodles. If you need more, the side order of noodles is enough to make almost a whole second bowl of ramen.

I also checked out the appetizer menu and decided to try the curry pancake. The boxed Chicken Katsu came out piping hot. It was still a generous portion of chicken layered over rice. When I saw the side compartment, I paused for a second and thought, is that soup? Then I realized it was actually the onion, egg, and soy mixture that goes with donburi. I did not know it would be packed separately, so I was not especially careful with the container and a little of it spilled into the bag. That said, I really applaud this place for separating it. It kept the chicken katsu crispy and the rice dry and fluffy until I was ready to eat. The curry pancake was different from what I expected, but in a pleasant way. It was not filled with curry or mixed into the dough. Instead, it was a hot, crispy, flaky Asian-style pancake with a texture similar to a scallion pancake, served with a curry dipping sauce. The curry had a bold and flavorful profile. It was not thick but nor sweet as the usual Japanese curry block sauces, as I was expeecting since it is a japnese themeed place. Te curry to me tatded more indian curry stlye, a bit spicy and a strong but it had a strong savory depth. Because of the texure closer to a desn flavor croth it did not cling to the pancake as much, not like how naan would scoopt up the curry, but it still paired very well, and works nice with the katsu, too!
