I have been wanting to come here after hearing so many good things about the sushi. The interior design of the restaurant is beautifully curated and has a great ambiance. After reading all the 5 star reviews I was feeling very hopeful with high expectations of the food. We ordered most of the recommended items as well as my favorite nigiri pieces one can't really go wrong with. Hamachi carpaccio 5/5 - this was the first thing that came out and really enjoyed this dish. Really great flavor and very citrusy Yuki roll - Not gonna lie but this had similar flavor profile as the hamachi carpaccio so wasn't as impressed. Also I noticed the texture of the hamachi was really soft and not as firm as I am usually used to Salmon belly nigiri - didn't love it, honestly was a bit fishy King salmon nigiri - this is when we started noticing that most of the fish has this soft, gummy like texture which makes it unappealing to eat, didn't love this one either Dry aged hamachi nigiri - appreciated the size of the fish but again experienced that mushy like texture which overwhelms the eating experience because I didn't want to keep chewing it let alone eat it Santa Barbara Uni nigiri - it was meh nothing special Scallop nigiri - the way it was served it was impossible to eat because it wasn't sliced in a way to eat it properly. I literally didn't eat it because it was served as a whole scallop vertically on the rice Snow trout (special) nigiri - looked promising but again it had that unpleasant texture which by this point we wanted to stop eating overall because it was making it hard to enjoy Big toro roll (which came out last) - definitely the most disappointing we barely ate it and even the toro on top and the toro mixture in the middle also had that odd texture that made all the fish taste the same like gummy mush we barely ate it and actually left most of it uneaten Though the food felt very overhyped and was extremely underwhelming, the service we received from the waiters was very good. I'm truly hoping we went on an off night but even then I don't think we would return. read more

Oh my, how did we not experience dining at Kane until now? This cozy, reservation-only restaurant serves seafood and sushi that rivals or exceeds the offerings of any established 5-star sushi restaurants in Austin. Their seafood/fish is shipped directly from Tokyo's prestigious Toyosu Market. Each order is expertly prepared by their chefs. We sat at the bar so we could see the extensive preparation that was involved in each order creation. We were drooling watching them prepare each order. Our order of edamame, sushi, a special roll, and uni was just exquisite. There is absolutely no need to add soy sauce or wasabi to your fish. They do offer wine, beer, and a good selection of sake. Service exceeded our expectations, and suggestions and descriptions were extremely helpful. I did like that warm towels were provided before our dinner. They also offer an Omakase dining experience. Absolutely blown away by this authentic Japanese restaurant! I felt transported to Japan upon entering - stunning ambiance. Beautiful minimalist decor and traditional style Japanese seating. I thought the space felt unique; definitely different from a typical Texas sushi joint. Service was quick and efficient. We ordered a bottle of lychee sake (absolutely delicious!). To eat, we split: - Chicken Karaage - 10/10. Fried to perfection, bite size chicken bites with dipping sauces. A perfect starter. - Lion King Roll - 10/10. This is a torched roll with a sweet, smoky flavor. Salmon forward. It melted in my mouth and was so incredibly flavorful. Fish was of such high quality! - Volcano Roll - 7/10. The fish was super fresh but this roll had way too many ingredients, so it was hard to distinguish a flavor. Absolutely favorite sushi place besides Neighborhood Sushi for quality meal. I appreciate the small, intimate space to keep the service and food prep consistently excellent. The traditional tatami style seating was a nice authentic touch to the Japanese culture but does involve climbing stairs so anyone with mobility or disabilities may want to be mindful of that. They do also provide standard table and sushi bar seating. Those chairs are super comfy but dangerous when a food coma hits after a big, filling meal. Small bites we've enjoyed: edamame, gyoza, A5 wagyu, hamachi, bluefin o-toro Makimono rolls we loved: Sue's Crunch, Akuma, K.T. UPDATE: My husband surprised me with omakase dinner at Kane ( our favorite sushi spot in all of Austin ) for my 40th birthday. I don't even know what words to use to describe this dining experience. It was out of this world amazing, every sashimi and Nigiri that was served was literally out of this world. The A5 wagyu, the bluefin tuna, the fish pate. Kane the owner and the head chef who was serving us was so nice, welcoming. He explained to us that all the fish he was serving us had just arrived from Japan that day to Houston at 12pm and we were having it at 5 pm. This sushi spot has always been our go to since they opened and we always saw Omakase and let me tell you if you want out of this world experience, get in touch with them and reserve your spot because you won't be disappointed. Visited on a Monday night in November a little after 6PM. Seated at a table and settled in. Service was great and the ambience was quite nice. The food was incredible, well worth the price. We had the Spicy Tuna Shiso Tempura, Ankimo, Spider Roll, Hamachi Carpaccio, and the Hamachi and the Hokkaido Hotate sashimi. All were delicious, next time we would probably skip the Spider Roll as it was a little too filling relative to the overall meal The Scallops (Hokkaido Hotate) were amazing! Came to celebrate my best friends birthday. The only "odd" thing was the seating in which for some you have to climb 2-3 stairs, side step over seat cushions then step down into the table. For people with disability issues the booth would be difficult for that reason but they do have standard tables as well. They also provided warm hand towels to clean our hand. We ordered some warm sake, fried rice, gyoza, and rounds of sushi. Everything tasted great, it is pricier for sushi but the quality and flavor of each roll is definitely some of the best that I've had in the Austin area. We had the M.T, volcano, Akuma, dragon, and lion king roll. I genuinely enjoyed each one. Service was awesome and very helpful. The seated area we had was pretty unique. It's a booth with a dug out area for the table so it can be a bit difficult to get in and out if you've never been here before. Soon as we sat they gave us hot warm towels to clean our hands. My friend & I had such an amazing experience at Kane Sushi!! It honestly went way above our expectations. We got in last minute and were lucky enough to grab seats at the bar top right in front of where they were making the sushi, which ended up being the best part of the experience. Watching everything being made right in front of us was so cool and something we didn't even plan on. The chefs were so skilled and you could really see the care that goes into each dish, every detail was intentional. Everything we had was incredibly flavorful, with so many different tastes and colors. The presentation was beautiful and everything tasted so fresh. I wish I knew about this place sooner. I would bring so many people here. One of my new favorite sushi places in Austin. The ambience is awesome, it feels like you are transported straight to Japan. We were seated by the bar which was cool, but the seats there felt awkward to get in and out of. They were very comfortable though. We ordered the big toro, the KT special, squid legs and two orders of waygu nigiri. Big toro: really great fatty fish. There's fresh wasabi on it already which was a new experience for me. I think a smidge less of the wasabi would be my personal preference. The KT special is tasty, but very very messy to eat. We were recommended to use our hands. The squid legs have got to be some of the best ones I've had. The fry was spectacular and the sauce paired with it was phenomenal. Pretty spicy and such a depth of flavor. Waygu melts in your mouth but the caviar didn't add much for me. All of it was very fresh and made to order. Watching the chefs prepare the dishes right in front of you was so fun. I'm such a big fan of Kane! The interior is so cute and it's the perfect combination of feeling like you're eating at a nice restaurant mixed with the comfort of a smaller homey establishment. The servers are so friendly and efficient, quick to give you a warm towel for your hands, and quick to take your order. The quality of the fish is so good and fresh, and I haven't had anything that I didn't like. And the plating is always so beautiful too. But I will say, I prefer the simpler rolls over the more extravagant ones, just so you can really appreciate the quality and flavor of the fish. The standout dish for me, though, was the matcha tiramisu. It was, of course, smaller than we expected, sadly. But it was so so delicious! I've had other matcha tiramisus, but this one is unlike any other I've had. The cream is giving CREAM. It's so milky and thick and I don't have any other descriptive words besides creamy lol. And not just the texture, but the flavor was full cream flavor. I know I'm just using this same words over and over again, but I just don't know how to describe it any better. Anyways, the matcha flavor is super strong too, which I love. But it's not too bitter because the cream can keep up with it, since it's so strong. The other was a spicy tuna with avocado, salmon and tons of popping tobiko-which was. Great service, great attention to detail-I've already recommended this place to at least 5 ppl. What an amazing neighborhood Japanese restaurant. The sushi is outstanding and the creativity on the rolls is incredible. They do a great job of balancing the fish with the accompanying ingredients and it works really nicely. The Big Toro is stacked and packed with wonderful fatty tuna. The truffle and caviar topping really compliment the tuna. Highly recommended! The Volcano roll looks overly complicated but wow does it pack a flavor punch. It was one of our favorites. For Cedar Park, Kane Sushi stands out very well. I'd rate this a bit higher than a 4 out of 5, say 4.2 or 4.1, as Tsuke to Otoko are incredible experiences for sushi. Let's get into the review: Pros: - Shopping mall-like parking (easy) - Spacious seating for dining - Sake, beer, and wine - Big cuts of fish Side Notes: - No hard liquor - Only open 5 to 9:30 PM (7 days) - Accepts reservations What We Got: - Ton of nigiri (more below) - Rainbow / Spider row - Premium sake + Sapporo What We Loved: Design/Space: They did a great job on the design. You have private areas, or you can sit by the bar. We have been there three times now, one takeout, one time by the bar, and another time in a booth. We prefer sitting at the bar to engage more with people. We don't remember the music played as we were conversing with our neighboring guests. Food/Drinks: They have a premium sake list that pairs well with your sushi, but don't expect pairing like a Michelin location where they hand-select wines/sakes for each bite. However, it was delicious, and you can't go wrong with a Sapparo. The fish cuts are really big, so this is the place for those who like it. I prefer slightly smaller so that the balance from the rice to the fish is perfect, but it was delicious. Most people love fatty tuna and uni, and although both were great, the Kinmedai (Golden Snapper) and Madai (Japanese Sea Bream) stood out the most. The takeout boxes are designed nicely and prepared nicely. Staff: The staff was very friendly and responsive (no complaints). Opportunities To Improve: I haven't tried the omakase here, so I don't know if the experience differs. I would love to engage with the chefs to learn more about the fish, etc., but we ordered a la carte, so next time. It's not an improvement per se, as I can't speak on an experience I haven't tried yet with their omakase. Summary: For sushi in Cedar Park, it's a great experience. It's nice to have good sushi in the area, and the price is slightly higher than average for what you get. It's not a top-end experience such as Otoko or Tsuke, so if you are looking for a Japanese Old Fashioned, or have conversations with the sushi chef about where they sourced the fish, this might not be the place for you. Kane is my favorite sushi restaurant in the Cedar Park/Austin area. It's a great place for a date night or to celebrate a special occasion. We've been back several times and always have a delicious experience with excellent service. I really love the decor and the horigotatsu seating (a traditional Japanese table low to the ground with a recessed floor). Their sushi is phenomenal. Not only is it beautifully presented, but the fish is fresh, high quality and the ratio of fish to rice is perfect. I recommend ordering a variety of their nigiri. This is my second time visiting Kane sushi and it has exceeded my expectation yet again! You really can't go wrong with any of their nigiris but my favourites are def the A5 wagyu and scallop - the wagyu are so soft and almost melt in your mouth and it's complemented with some caviar and uni on top; the scallop tastes really fresh as well! Their rolls are exceptional, big portions and filled with different ingredients & sauces. I think the uni pasta is really great but you will have to share it with friends since it's kind of a filling dish. As far as the ramen goes, I think it's a bit of a letdown since it's on the salty side. We finished off with the matcha tiramisu, and in my opinion, it's just like cream and matcha powder but not really a tiramisu. Although I do like the presentation.
