Chicken karaage
Samyukta S.

Absolutely blown away by this authentic Japanese restaurant! I felt transported to Japan upon entering - stunning ambiance. Beautiful minimalist decor and traditional style Japanese seating. I thought the space felt unique; definitely different from a typical Texas sushi joint. Service was quick and efficient. We ordered a bottle of lychee sake (absolutely delicious!). To eat, we split: - Chicken Karaage - 10/10. Fried to perfection, bite size chicken bites with dipping sauces. A perfect starter. - Lion King Roll - 10/10. This is a torched roll with a sweet, smoky flavor. Salmon forward. It melted in my mouth and was so incredibly flavorful. Fish was of such high quality! - Volcano Roll - 7/10. The fish was super fresh but this roll had way too many ingredients, so it was hard to distinguish a flavor. Couldn't appreciate it the same way, We ended our meal with a matcha tiramisu, which was sweet creamy goodness served in such a fun way (a highlighter matcha green wooden box)! It was an incredible experience and a fabulous meal. I look forward to visiting again soon for a future sushi fix!

We've heard so many wonderful things about Kane, and we were excited to try it. Our server was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and full of thoughtful recommendations for our first visit. The food was delicious! My personal favorite was the Yuki roll, with spicy scallops and hamachi.

Spicy tataki

Absolutely favorite sushi place besides Neighborhood Sushi for quality meal. I appreciate the small, intimate space to keep the service and food prep consistently excellent. The traditional tatami style seating was a nice authentic touch to the Japanese culture but does involve climbing stairs so anyone with mobility or disabilities may want to be mindful of that. They do also provide standard table and sushi bar seating. Those chairs are super comfy but dangerous when a food coma hits after a big, filling meal. Small bites we've enjoyed: edamame, gyoza, A5 wagyu, hamachi, bluefin o-toro Makimono rolls we loved: Sue's Crunch, Akuma, K.T. Special, Red Crane, Lion King Desserts: matcha tiramasu We'll be brave enough to do the omakase one day.

A little slice of Japan in cedar park. Definitely a must visit place. Their decor transports you to Japan. We tried variety of rolls and they were all yum and big sized. We also had matcha dessert and crepe dessert both were fantastic and beef ribs were good too. Staff is very welcoming and attentive. Beautiful ambience and over all awesome experience. Definitely a must visit.

Hamachi Carpaccio

The Hamachi Carpaccio is my new favorite. The sweet and tangy sesame oil sauce perfectly complements the buttery, high-quality hamachi. The sauce itself is unreal--I literally wanted to chug it.

UPDATE: My husband surprised me with omakase dinner at Kane ( our favorite sushi spot in all of Austin ) for my 40th birthday. I don't even know what words to use to describe this dining experience. It was out of this world amazing, every sashimi and Nigiri that was served was literally out of this world. The A5 wagyu, the bluefin tuna, the fish pate. Kane the owner and the head chef who was serving us was so nice, welcoming. He explained to us that all the fish he was serving us had just arrived from Japan that day to Houston at 12pm and we were having it at 5 pm. This sushi spot has always been our go to since they opened and we always saw Omakase and let me tell you if you want out of this world experience, get in touch with them and reserve your spot because you won't be disappointed. Best experience, fresh fish and just overall amazing.

Me and my boyfriend did a belated Valentine's Day dinner here and we are always super impressed with Kane. The food is always excellent and the service is great. The restaurant itself is so beautiful and intimate, definitely our go to date spot.

Hokkaido Hotate Sashimi

Visited on a Monday night in November a little after 6PM. Seated at a table and settled in. Service was great and the ambience was quite nice. The food was incredible, well worth the price. We had the Spicy Tuna Shiso Tempura, Ankimo, Spider Roll, Hamachi Carpaccio, and the Hamachi and the Hokkaido Hotate sashimi. All were delicious, next time we would probably skip the Spider Roll as it was a little too filling relative to the overall meal The Scallops (Hokkaido Hotate) were amazing! As was the Hamachi sashimi and everything else we had. The Ankimo was very well prepared and dressed, though I will confess that monkfish liver will not be for everyone. We loved the meal and the restaurant and will definitely be returning, the preparation and presentation of the dishes were stellar!

I enjoy coming to Kane! Wonderful service every time. The nigiris are all so fresh and topped with the best ingredients. I've gotten the chance to try several rolls and they never disappoint. Shout out to our server who was just the sweetest person ever.

My friend & I had such an amazing experience at Kane Sushi!! It honestly went way above our expectations. We got in last minute and were lucky enough to grab seats at the bar top right in front of where they were making the sushi, which ended up being the best part of the experience. Watching everything being made right in front of us was so cool and something we didn't even plan on. The chefs were so skilled and you could really see the care that goes into each dish, every detail was intentional. Everything we had was incredibly flavorful, with so many different tastes and colors. The presentation was beautiful and everything tasted so fresh. You can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. Overall it was such a fun and memorable dining experience. Great atmosphere, amazing food, and definitely a place I'd recommend if you're looking for something special + a hidden gem in Cedar Park!

I wish I knew about this place sooner. I would bring so many people here. One of my new favorite sushi places in Austin. The ambience is awesome, it feels like you are transported straight to Japan. We were seated by the bar which was cool, but the seats there felt awkward to get in and out of. They were very comfortable though. We ordered the big toro, the KT special, squid legs and two orders of waygu nigiri. Big toro: really great fatty fish. There's fresh wasabi on it already which was a new experience for me. I think a smidge less of the wasabi would be my personal preference. The KT special is tasty, but very very messy to eat. We were recommended to use our hands. The squid legs have got to be some of the best ones I've had. The fry was spectacular and the sauce paired with it was phenomenal. Pretty spicy and such a depth of flavor. Waygu melts in your mouth but the caviar didn't add much for me. All of it was very fresh and made to order. Watching the chefs prepare the dishes right in front of you was so fun. Our server was really great. Would highly recommend!

10/10 spot here! Came out here for a work dinner and we had a blast trying everything. Didn't take all the pics I needed but you can get the gist from what I post. Service was awesome and very helpful. The seated area we had was pretty unique. It's a booth with a dug out area for the table so it can be a bit difficult to get in and out if you've never been here before. Soon as we sat they gave us hot warm towels to clean our hands. Really enjoyed that. As for the food, everything was superb! The sushi was really fresh. The presentation was great to look at. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Tried the monkfish liver for the first time ever and I have to say I'm a fan. The KT special was my favorite but didn't get a pic of it. Will definitely be revisiting this place!

Absolutely perfect-my wife and I had the greatest sushi for my birthday and I have a new favorite restaurant. The ambience is excellent-I will request a booth next time-you have to sort of climb into them-cool design. Every roll we tried was delicious and beautifully presented. The spider roll was huge and requires 2 bites unless you're a savage like me. The tempura roll was probably my favorite (pictured). The other was a spicy tuna with avocado, salmon and tons of popping tobiko-which was. Great service, great attention to detail-I've already recommended this place to at least 5 ppl. I'm no sushi snob-I honestly love it all-but this was even better than my previous favorites in this area: uchi and uchiko-which is saying a lot I think. Thank you to the chefs and staff for a great birthday dinner!

Soto Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar - Happy Hour Omakase - Chili Hamachi

Soto Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar

Soto's happy hour is a fantastic deal, especially when they have it on the daily. This is by far my…read morewife's favorite restaurant and we regularly go here for date night. For roughly $60 the wife was full and we had roughly 6 dishes and one cocktail (I was still slightly hungry). Think of it as more of a tapas style ordering. Soft shelled crab - My absolute favorite and by far the best dish! Crispy from the breading, soft shell and subtle crab taste, and to top it off the fried egg adds some creaminess from the yolk. Not greasy at all due to the way it's fried. And who doesn't like a little microgreen to add some freshness to it?! It could likely use a little more salt, and this particular time the yolk was a overcooked. Sushi Tacos - 2nd favorite! You get two, and frankly I prefer not sharing these (although my wife forced me to). It's such a unique dish. Each taco is palm sized. They take a yummy piece of laver (seaweed), coat one side and deep fry it to make a nice hard shell taco casing. Then they fill it with sushi rice, top it with plentiful tuna, add a slice of avocado, and top it with micro greens. Refreshing, light (once you squeeze the tiny lime on top), slightly filling due to the rice, and absolutely delicious. Takoyaki - I'm not a fan, but the wife is. For me it's a texture thing. Even when visiting Japan I didn't enjoy this dish. Honestly though I do think it deserves far more bonito flakes, as the dish is meant to look alive from the waving flakes. Honestly we love this place so much, I always get engrossed in the food so much I forget to take pics. The overall ambience is chill and refined, albeit no white tableclothes, but it acts like it should have them. This location gets busy during dinner time, however during happy hour it's rarely even 1/4 full. Monday's the happy hour is all day!

Our server said she would remove it from the bill, which I appreciated--but the manager refused. Instead, he insisted I pay for it and even tried to pressure me into eating it. The lack of flexibility and understanding made an already frustrating situation worse. We don't go out to eat often, so this was especially disappointing. Overall, the service was poor and not how customers should be treated.

TLDR: Pro: authentic Japanese restaurant with food prepped to order…read more Con: lunch menu is minimum two item order which wasn't clear, and they prepare the food with way too much salt The restaurant is authentic which was a huge win for me. The lunch menu wasn't very straightforward so when I got my bill in the end I was a little surprised to see it came to $18, instead of $10. I guess I could have asked when I ordered, but the menu clearly lists mackerel is $8.50, so I didn't quite get that the lady/owner/mgr meant you have to order two entree items for the lunch menu, so its not like a typical lunch special at a set price for the listed price. It felt a little deceiving so it wasnt a great feeling, i guess i should have picked up on it when she said two items. But I wish it could have clearly stated that on the menu when i was reviewing it, i would have just opted for one entree on the menu instead had i realized that sooner. The fish was fine but $20/worth idk. I will say the meal was actually cooked to order. The downside for me in terms of the meal was the salt bomb all over my meal, starting with the salad which was a very small amount of greens to the amount of salad dressing they topped it with. The miso soup was made with miso but very strongly seasoned making me want to water it down. The edamame were good but once again so much added salt on it. The mackerel was good, but yet again the excessive amount of salt made it very difficult to enjoy the meal from start to finish. The vibe is a small dining area with minimal frill, and a small counter with seating where the sushi chef is to make rolls/sashimi. The lady is very attentive and the food is made with care, I just wish they would hold back on the salt. I left feeling very parched due to the amount of sodium I ingested from the preparation. Overall this restaurant is a great Japanese restaurant, I wouldn't mind going back. If - minus the miso soup, I wonder if I could request no added salt to my food in the cook process. Aside from how they may have prepped the fish before cooking, if for example it gets pre-seasoned in salt that's one thing, but no additional salt when cooking. I recommend you give it a shot, its a rare find to see a Japanese restaurant ran my a Japanese family, which was a nice surprise.

I started with the gyozas -- filled with chicken and veggies, and really affordable at around $6 for 6. The sauce was delicious, and I shared them with my family, who also thought they were great. You can get them fried or steamed; I went with steamed. Next, I ordered the salmon avocado roll, and it was literally the best roll I've ever eaten. I dipped it in soy sauce, and for those who avoid preservatives, they even offer a soy sauce with just soy, wheat, salt, and water -- perfect for me! I ended up ordering four orders of six rolls (yes, they were that good) and ate them all by myself. Each order was about $9, with $7 for just salmon -- avocado was an add-on. The Sexy Mango roll was my mom's favorite -- she said it tasted refreshing. We also tried sashimi sushi, which was served in a cool cup and tasted amazing. My brother went all out and ate 30 avocado rolls, and the chef was kind enough to give him a super-sized sushi with extra avocado and rice -- I was so jealous! I also tried the Beef Bulgogi, which was delicious and priced at about $13 -- very reasonable. Around 4:00 pm on Saturday, the restaurant wasn't crowded, which made it perfect to enjoy our meal. The K-pop music in the background was a fun touch, too. Seriously, the salmon avocado rolls were the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be back next time I'm nearby!

Our server was super nice and immediately took our order. The rolls, because they are part of the combo, were more on the simple side. Both the yellowtail and tuna roll were really good. The quality of the fish seemed decent, but I wish there was more of it in the roll. And I wish the wasabi was a little stronger. The chicken udon bowl was probably my favorite of the night. The udon itself was the perfect texture and really bouncy. The broth was deep and had a rich sweetness. And the chicken was really juicy. The chashu ramen was okay though. I wish the noodles were cooked a little more, I wish the pork was more tender, and I wish the egg was jammier since the whole yolk was basically hard boiled.
