Thankfully the ratings were calling me in because I have been taking my son to the coding place next door for 3 years now and haven't ever even been curious about a strip mall sushi place. It's SO clean. The decor is crisp, floral, calm, and inviting. Our server was FANTASTIC! She is a Mom of grown boys and was really excited to welcome us for a special graduate lunch that day. We got a little bit of everything, and nothing disappointed. It's phenomenal to get such high quality sushi this far north...even if this place were closer to downtown or the Domain, I have no doubt they'd compete well with the larger more infamous places. The toro and nigiri samplers were delicious. Perfectly cooked rice, and seasoned just right to bring out each unique fish. But man, my daughter got the beef udon and I just couldn't let her not finish the bowl. That broth was a good balance between sweet and salty, and was some of the best i've had in ATX (granted I normally don't try the udon at sushi places). The mentaiko dumplings as a starter really stole the show with the creamy cheese and rich pollack sauce matching perfectly with the pork based dumpling. If you're a roll fan, I'd highly suggest the Napa Valley roll with a great special sauce that reminds me of Mushashinos. We're so happy to have a place so close to us up north...this will be our go to spot on the north side of town. read more

Solid quality in a quaint little place. Contrary to other people, I actually really like the ambience and decor here. It feels simple yet clean and modern. It doesn't really feel super close to Japanese style though. I got the bento box and tried the hamachi roll. Both were solid. The bento box I picked was the beef teriyaki and the ahi poki. The "pickles" are in fact not pickles they are daikon. The ahi tasted fresh and solid but after a while there's some flavor fatigue. The beef teriyaki tasted solid but more korean leaning like galbi but not as good. The hamachi roll was okay. The price is a little bit on the higher side but quality is good. Service is good as well. Not sure if I would go back but maybe if I was in the area! read more

I came to this location last month for lunch with my partner. While this was not my first time at this location, it is my first review of this place! Why did it take so long, I have no clue? We specifically came to this location to get the lunch Bento box specials. Bento box The Bento box lunch specials here are fully customizable (based upon a set list of items of course), which is nice as you can get as you can really have it your way (written in the B.K. theme song tone). We both elected to get the sushi, teriyaki chicken and salmon respectively. The lunch special bento boxes also come with standard white rice, a small salad with sesame dressing and miso soup. The beto boxes are truly filling for their size which I acredit to the rice from both the sushi and the portion that comes with the lunch. The teriyaki was perfectly balanced as it wasn't too salty which was perfect as when it tastes overwhelmingly savory, masking other flavors like sweetness and garlic. Conversely, the miso soup was a bit too salty for my liking. Sometimes the saltiness in miso soup can vary depending on the type and amount of miso paste used. I didnt think to tell the staff that I required something lower in sodium which is my fault. We also ordered another sushi role that was made with crispy salmon, jalapeno, spicy mayo, Sriracha and seaweed. The sushi role was crunchy and had a nice kick of flavor. Paired with wasabi, this role was an explosive flavor bomb. I was warmly greeted by Jasmine, who took the time to walk me through the menu and explain the lunch specials. Since I was the only one in the restaurant at the time, I got to ask plenty of questions and even learned a bit about the chefs and ownership--a really nice touch that made the experience feel personal. I placed my order to go, and when I got to my location, I was blown away by the portion size. For just $18, a huge portion Bento box that included salad, California rolls, rice, teriyaki beef, and all the delicious fixings you'd expect. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully packed. This was our first but not last visit to Sushi to the Moon. Here are the vitals. The service is excellent, the fish is fresh, the portions are ample, and there is something on the menu for everyone. From their website: Owner and Chef, Joon has over 20 years of experience in Japanese cuisine from Napa Valley California. He has definitely brought a California vibe to Leander! We ordered our usual sushi combo bluefin, hamachi, yellowtail, and sake. This fish requires minimal if, not zero, soy sauce and wasabi. This fish was so good we went for a reduced round two. Sidebar: I don't understand why folks drown their sushi in soy sauce and wasabi. My recommendation buy your sushi at HEB and drown it! We also ordered their hangry roll which is a fried roll. This one-of-a-kind roll has yellowtail, spicy crabmeat, cream cheese, jalapenos, and a special sauce. The presentation is wonderful, yes there is a flame. This combination of fish, sauce, and heat is a cornucopia of flavor. If you are not into sushi check out their menu as they also offer noodle bowls and other cooked entrees. Speaking of beverages they have a good selection of sake and a few interesting beers. If you wish to bring your own adult beverage there is a corkage fee. Easy 5-star review. read more

I want to update that my review IS for the correct restaurant and the roll i described is exactly on the menu and my experience when i was there. the roll is even on most of the photos and reviews. Submitting my same review with this disclaimer: It's about average. i've gone 2 times. the salmon roll is really not one i would reorder as it's like cooked salmon on top. Just kinda yucky with raw salmon on bottom. really not my preference. Im not sure, this place has really good reviews so I'm sure a lot of ppl have better recommendations. Personally, i would probably go elsewhere next time based on the rolls and the quality imo. Also they don't give free water? lol. you have to buy bottled water from them if you want water. Came here for an early dinner and it wasn't busy at all. This was around 6 p.m. The inside looks nice with a sushi bar near the entrance and a nice waiting area if you need to wait for your Togo order or a table to free up. We ordered our food and all the raw food came out pretty quickly. The cooked food, on the other hand, took some time. The chicken katsu had a very crispy texture to it, almost very similar to the ones in Japan. The sushi itself was decent and fresh. The slices of fish were a decent size and it was proportionally nice with the rice. The dessert was okay and that I can pass on next time. We had been wanting to try Sushi to the Moon for a while since it was one of the closer sushi restaurants to us. Came in fairly early on a Thursday evening, wasn't too busy. Overall a solid 3 stars. The good: Service! Our server was not only extremely polite and attentive, she was very helpful with clarifying menu items and proactively bringing us napkins and refills on beverages. This was what stood out as the best part. The Avocado Ball. This was excellently crafted and balanced. Texture, flavor and portion. Would order it again! The not so good: Well, when you come to a sushi bar you really want the fish to be the star. I love hamachi and so I ordered it as nigiri and in several rolls. But candidly it was not good. As you can see from my pictures, the hamachi rolls had diced up fish in them. Likely, based on taste and texture, not great cuts of fish. The nigiri which you can also see in the picture had sinew throughout it. None of the pieces of hamachi nigiri could be eaten properly because of the hard sinew. So in sum, service was excellent, the server fantastic, but the food came up a bit short where it mattered most. We didn't exactly order that much and for 3 people it was $150+ read more

We really like sushi to the moon! We've been several times and they have been consistently good. I like the feel of the restaurant because it's bright and feels more open than a lot of more traditional sushi restaurants. When you walk in, you're transported to a beautiful designed sushi restaurant, akin to many of the nicest sushi restaurants in downtown Austin. The fish is super high quality, melt in your mouth delicious. We had the salmon crudo, hamachi carpaccio, and the omakase roll (chef's choice). Everything was so delicious and thoroughly impressed us! Our waitress was great and checked on us often. We sat at the bar and watched the sushi chefs create the rolls! We've heard so much about this place over the last year that we wanted to try it ourselves. We were celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary, and we were able to make a reservation. Upon arriving, we were happily greeted and quickly shown our table. We looked over the extensive menu and experienced a bit of decision paralysis -- and that's okay! P2 wanted an app, rolls, and miso soup, so we ordered those for starters. We later ordered a sashimi plate, which came out beautifully. Everything was delicious and top-quality. The Agedashi Tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. P2 said the agedashi tofu here is the best in Austin. The Dragon Roll was carefully prepared and perfect. The Omakase roll turned out to be a Hamachi Roll for that day. The Sashimi Plate came with thick cuts of fish, with a very thoughtful presentation. Sushi to the Moon had a warm ambiance, and its interior design was most similar to what you'll find in California. There was also lots of natural lighting for a restaurant, which I appreciated. I had the tiger roll and first impressions were amazing the presentation was so pretty and the eel with spicy mayo is such a nice touch to the crab. I had it along with the pink shrimp tempura and im obsessed with the sauce even as an appetizer i wanted seconds. My husband and I love this place and usually order it to go, but this was our first time dining in and it was such a great experience! The sushi is always incredibly fresh and delicious. After coming in person, we realized the wait is much shorter compared to ordering takeout, so I definitely recommend dining in if you can. Now I'm not an expert on raw fish, but I must say I got adventurous and ordered the "Crazy Red Dragon", with the spicy tuna and it was really good. So y'all should know by now that I love a good "lunch special". We had the double specially rolls and Miso so Wifie ordered the "Crazy California Roll", with soy paper and add cream cheese. The sushi is good. I am a little jaded having lived in California and Seattle where the sushi is usually very good as the ocean it comes from is right there. My only complaint about the sushi is the portion size of some selections. I had the Yummy Belly roll which was good enough to make me literally go ummm when I tasted it. There just wasn't enough there. I was still hungry even after having three pieces of hamachi sashimi. So I also ordered the shaggy roll. This was also good but came with 7 pieces vs the 5 smaller pieces of the yummy belly roll, which was better. All that & unsweetened ice tea cost me $65.15. I had no alcohol. The one thing I would change is the interior. Not a lot of atmosphere. Sparse decor, exposed concrete floor, no booths, plain tables & chairs. All fine but the atmosphere felt like a cafeteria. Nice bright space with plenty of seating when we arrived for a late lunch. We were seated and our beverage orders were taken. Our server was very friendly and offered suggestions as I had not been there before. My grand daughter suggested it as she was impressed when she had gone last month. We obtained an appetizer of spicy shrimp and it was absolutely delicious. The shrimp was cooked beautifully. It was just the right size to be able to pop it in your mouth, but still get a good shrimp flavor the spicey honey glaze-YUMMO! We ordered and a cup of miso soup arrived pronto. I wish I had paid more attention to what came with my order as I don't care for Miso -my granddaughter said it was delicious so I will take her word for that. Not long after her rolls arrived. They were huge and looked delicious. The fish looked so colorful and fresh and she confirmed they were delicious. I decided to try a bento box with sesame chicken and tempura of veggies . It arrived with a generous scoop of rice, a nice side salad and some pickled daikon. It was also very good . Neither one of us could finish our lunches so we each got to go boxes and planned to eat them for dinner . I always love two for one meal!!! As I was getting my to go box ready, I gracefully knocked over my nearly full glass of water ..... Our server came running over with. I just told to start mopping it up. I apologized, but she was very nice and said it was no problem. I am sure a clot, but I haven't done that in quite a while -I hate causing extra work for people, but she immediately got it under control and other than for my granddaughter's clothing which did get caught in the spill. Everything was cleaned up and tidied. For the portions and the fact that it was Sushi, our lunch bill of a little over $50 was expected. They have the machines where you just put your card in and you're able to tip right then and there. I liked that there were suggestions for tip amounts so I didn't have to do the map as I was feeling rather lazy after all that food!!!
