We checked out Dau, a brand new sushi spot that's been open maybe a week or two, just outside Liberty Hill off the 183 feeder, and overall it was a really pleasant surprise. The location is easy to find, and the inside has a genuinely nice ambiance. The space feels thoughtfully designed and classy without being stuffy. It looks like it seats around 30 people, so it's intimate but not cramped. Everything felt calm and not crowded, which made for a relaxed dining experience. The food is where Dau really shines. The miso soup stood out immediately. It had real depth and aroma, not the thin, forgettable version you sometimes get. The edamame was crisp and salted just right. Simple, fresh, and done correctly. For sushi, we ordered an avocado roll, rainbow roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a summer roll. The fish and ingredients across the board were fresh and well balanced. The rainbow roll was especially good, both visually and in flavor, and the shrimp tempura roll had a great crunch without being heavy or greasy. The only food miss for us was the sauce inside the summer roll. It just didn't quite hit our personal taste, though that's very subjective and others may enjoy it. One small note on service, shared in the spirit of helping a new place succeed. When we walked in, we made eye contact with several staff members but weren't greeted or acknowledged right away. As someone who's worked in restaurants, I do expect at least a quick welcome or a "we'll be right with you." It didn't ruin the experience, but it's an easy fix that would go a long way. I also snapped a few photos of the menu so folks can get a sense of what they're offering. There's a solid range, from classic rolls and nigiri to chef's specialty rolls, entrées, and a decent sake selection. All in all, Dau is off to a strong start. Fresh food, solid execution, and a beautiful space. We're glad to have another good local option so close to Liberty Hill, and we'll absolutely be back.

Well decorated newest sushi spot in town. Pricing is very fair! Sushi is fresh and delicious. Might have to say this is our newest fave spot. Quality and price point in't stuffy like Kane sushi. Love the detail-oriented decor and the way they present their food.

We had lunch last week and the decor/furniture was cute and tasteful. The restaurant space is small; great for intimate dining. Our gyoza came out quick for our appetizer. I love raw sushi so I ordered a hama toro. It was a little "fishy" tasting, so not as fresh as I'd like. The shaggy dog roll was good but the Liberty Hill one was even better! The wagyu beef could have been seared a little longer because it was still a little raw and chewy so some patrons may not like that. Otherwise, I'd definitely come back for a sushi fix since it's very convenient! It looks like they're still setting up the outdoor seating when we left so hopefully be ready when the weather is nice outside.

Came in on a Friday night around 5:30. Trendy decor with comfortable vibe. All the rolls were very good and had a unique flavor beyond traditional rolls. The escolar ceviche was exceptionally delicious. Staff was very friendly and attentive. 10:10

Wagu beef... worst piece of meat I have ever had so chewy

Ordered takeout twice from here. First time it was 10/10 as we nearly ordered everything on the menu! This time it was very mid. The wagu beef was so chewy and a horrible texture I couldn't even eat it. Spicy edamame was fine but way spicier than the first time I ordered it. And the truffle salmon roll was amazing but a little too much truffle oil (first time was perfect) Hopefully I just got an off night and next time it will be better.

BEST sushi in the area HANDS DOWN!! It was so good we forgot to take a photo before packing leftovers so there are a lot not shown in images. But holy moly I want more already!! The owner/chef was a chef in Japan and it shows. The fish is beyond fresh and flavorful! There are many cuts of different fish bellies and these were by far our favorites. For the quality and flavor the price is great, ~$20 per sushi rolls (8-10 given). It is a small sitting area but elegant and peaceful. There is lots of bar sitting as well. Wow all around we will be here at least once a month if not more

The rainbow roll is the farthest away. The salmon ikura roll is in front.

The food!! The ambience!!! The service!!! All was outstanding!! The quality of the sushi in its freshness is amazing!! Honestly it is the best quality of sushi, tuna, shrimp and Wagyu beef that I have ever tasted. We ordered the edamame which was perfectly cooked with the right amount of salt and crisp. The miso soup was delicious and obviously fresh!! We had the salmon Ikura roll, truffle salmon roll, liberty hill roll, all from the Chef's Signature Rolls menu and the rainbow roll from the classic rolls. The truffle salmon roll and the liberty hill roll were some of the best sushi I have ever eaten. I can not say enough...shout it from the mountain top...if you love sushi, you have to come here!!!! And to top it off, the owner and sushi chef, Chef Dau came to meet us and he clearly loves his craft!!

Bento Box with Salmon Teriyaki, California Roll, Salad and Miso Soup.

Ordered for pickup for a quick lunch as this is close to home and was not disappointed. The salmon teriyaki was cooked perfectly and the teriyaki glaze was sweet and savory. The California Roll tasted fresh and you get a good sized portion in the bento box. The salad could've used just a tad more dressing and the miso was a little heavier than I'm used to, but those are minor complaints and I'd definitely order this again.

We go to many sushi spots around the Austin and greater Austin area, and this is by far one of our new favorite spots. Sashimi is so fresh, everything is plated wonderfully and the prices are excellent for the experience. Couldn't be more excited to find a gem like this in our hometown.

Our custom Chronic Roll. Spicy tuna, tempura shrimp avocado and crusted garlic on top.

10 Stars If there is a option. Retired tuna boat captain for 35 years. If you want an amazing experience Liberty Hill/Leander has the spot. Dau made our custom roll and made it better then what we have ever had. The service was exceptional and I highly recommend.

    Spotless!!

One stop shopping for primo eating and drinking good times…read more * * * Obsidian Brewery makes beer. I have no idea how the beer is. I may visit Obsidian Brewery time after time after time after time and never find out how their beer is. This is because a) They have an outstanding bar and b) They have an outstanding kitchen. For me, beer is a hardship beverage you drink when there is nothing else better available. When I go to a bar, I can sometimes be looking for mix-mastering. Usually I am looking for outstanding top of the line hard spirits. * * * When I walked into Obsidian, I looked at their bar. It was love at first sight. In front of me were twenty yards of three shelves of the most wonderful bottles I could possibly imagine. Half of them I had never heard of before. * * * I settled on a Buddha's Hand Gin. Buddha and Gin rarely appear in the same sentence Never mind the same label on a bottle. I ordered it straight up. I went immediately to Nirvana. Forget the meditation and the austerities. The Buddha's Hand Gin was as good as a trip to the Himalayas. Buddha's Hand is an obscure citrus fruit that grows multiple protuberances the way some horseradishes do. It is golden and looks like a hand. Ergo the name. The Buddha's Hand Gin is a citrus tinged gin with an edge more like orange zest than like orange juice. The additional botanicals make it strong, attention grabbing, fruity and yet combative. I was absolutely fascinated. Note that Buddha's Hand Gin is only one of the many items they have to explore there. I am totally ready to do more exploring. * * * The kitchen at Obsidian is also of distinction. The savvy local guide I came with adored his Thai Curry Wood Fired Rings. I went with a Cheesy Bread. This is open-faced grilled cheese on a thick slice of bread the size of a shoebox, with a wonderful homemade tomato sauce on about 1/3 of it. It is the best cheese pizza you have ever had. It is what cheese pizza is supposed to be if you don't use the standard canned ingredients that institutional providers sell to Domino's. I was as in love with my cheese bread as I was with my citrus gin. * * * The company was also outstanding. Which is just as well because Obsidian is a social place. Lots of Leanderthals having a fine time in couples and groups. This is not a loner's loser bar. You know - the dark rooms with misfits drinking their sixth beer while watching TV. This is a good folks good times full-of-sunlight place. So you definitely want to come with good folks. * * * Good food, good bottles, good people. And if you are feeling chipper, You can even have a homemade beer to celebrate.

Arriving for our annual holiday dinner, Liberty Hill Beer Market was initially very accommodating…read morein seating our party of 13. Our waitress was attentive and organized, taking everyone's order carefully and efficiently. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill due to a clear lack of communication in the kitchen. Multiple times throughout the evening, one or two plates were brought to our table by different servers asking if anyone had ordered them. In each case, the food either belonged to another table or wasn't what anyone in our party had ordered. Two members of our group didn't receive their hamburgers until after everyone else had finished eating and plates were already being cleared. Our waitress returned to the table several times to apologize and explained that there were only two people working in the kitchen and that they were short-staffed, as they hadn't expected the restaurant to be so busy on a Monday night. While we appreciated her efforts and professionalism, it was disappointing to see the owner standing near the kitchen throughout the evening and never once coming to our table to acknowledge or apologize for the situation. Although the two extremely late meals were removed from the bill, most of us received our food at least 10 minutes apart, making it difficult to enjoy the meal together. Things have changed since the new ownership--some for the better--but the service this evening left a lot to be desired. After five years of celebrating together at LHBM, this visit was unfortunately not memorable in a good way. The experience was bad enough that it doesn't make us eager to return.
