Overall a wonderful atmosphere but service was extremely slow. Maybe because it is still new and the kitchen and chefs sushi prep area need to get used to the flow of things. The sashimi combo (5/5) was incredible. All their fish are fresh and sweet. This has good value for the ATX current restaurant pricing. Texas wagyu nigiri (3/5) was too chewy. Flavor was good but I wouldn't order again. Chicken karage (5/5) has a nice crunch and toasty flavor but not overly fried. We all enjoyed it including our young ones. Good appetizer for sharing before the main dishes. Chef's omakase roll (2.5/5) was a huge fail. Unfortunately not our cup of tea and was nothing special really. Bento box (4/5) is good, comes with miso soup too. Overall a good meal but I was a bit disappointed with the 2 pieces of hamachi. Salmon is cooked well but is drenched in teriyaki sauce which could be good or bad depends on how your like your teriyaki salmon. I'm glad to see another new sushi restaurant open in Leander and will certainly come back to try other items on their menu. read more

Visited this new sushi spot in town with my dad for a late dinner. Despite its unassuming strip mall location, Dau Sushi is decorated beautifully with an atmosphere like that of a high end restaurant. The menu offers authentic yet innovative dishes, and a good mix of sushi and other Japanese food (special plates, bento boxes, etc.). We ordered: 1. Bento box with chicken teriyaki and Philadelphia roll. The chicken teriyaki was on point - absolutely delicious and a generous portion of meat, served with jasmine rice. The Philadelphia roll was a bit cream cheese heavy for my taste but the fish was of high quality. Bento boxes are served with soup, which was enjoyable. 2. Salmon truffle roll. This is a roll from the signature menu at a steep price of $20. However I felt it was well worth it. The thick cuts of salmon in this roll were flavorful and filling. Very tasty. Service was okay; my suggestion for them is to bus/clean the tables faster and maybe check in atleast once during the meal to see if patrons need anything. read more

We checked out Dau, a brand new sushi spot that's been open maybe a week or two, just outside Liberty Hill off the 183 feeder, and overall it was a really pleasant surprise. The location is easy to find, and the inside has a genuinely nice ambiance. The space feels thoughtfully designed and classy without being stuffy. It looks like it seats around 30 people, so it's intimate but not cramped. Everything felt calm and not crowded, which made for a relaxed dining experience. The food is where Dau really shines. The miso soup stood out immediately. It had real depth and aroma, not the thin, forgettable version you sometimes get. The edamame was crisp and salted just right. Simple, fresh, and done correctly. For sushi, we ordered an avocado roll, rainbow roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a summer roll. The fish and ingredients across the board were fresh and well balanced. The rainbow roll was especially good, both visually and in flavor, and the shrimp tempura roll had a great crunch without being heavy or greasy. The only food miss for us was the sauce inside the summer roll. It just didn't quite hit our personal taste, though that's very subjective and others may enjoy it. One small note on service, shared in the spirit of helping a new place succeed. When we walked in, we made eye contact with several staff members but weren't greeted or acknowledged right away. As someone who's worked in restaurants, I do expect at least a quick welcome or a "we'll be right with you." It didn't ruin the experience, but it's an easy fix that would go a long way. I also snapped a few photos of the menu so folks can get a sense of what they're offering. There's a solid range, from classic rolls and nigiri to chef's specialty rolls, entrées, and a decent sake selection. All in all, Dau is off to a strong start. Fresh food, solid execution, and a beautiful space. We're glad to have another good local option so close to Liberty Hill, and we'll absolutely be back. read more

We had lunch last week and the decor/furniture was cute and tasteful. The restaurant space is small; great for intimate dining. Our gyoza came out quick for our appetizer. I love raw sushi so I ordered a hama toro. It was a little "fishy" tasting, so not as fresh as I'd like. The shaggy dog roll was good but the Liberty Hill one was even better! The wagyu beef could have been seared a little longer because it was still a little raw and chewy so some patrons may not like that. Otherwise, I'd definitely come back for a sushi fix since it's very convenient! It looks like they're still setting up the outdoor seating when we left so hopefully be ready when the weather is nice outside. read more

Ordered takeout twice from here. First time it was 10/10 as we nearly ordered everything on the menu! This time it was very mid. The wagu beef was so chewy and a horrible texture I couldn't even eat it. Spicy edamame was fine but way spicier than the first time I ordered it. And the truffle salmon roll was amazing but a little too much truffle oil (first time was perfect) Hopefully I just got an off night and next time it will be better. read more

BEST sushi in the area HANDS DOWN!! It was so good we forgot to take a photo before packing leftovers so there are a lot not shown in images. But holy moly I want more already!! The owner/chef was a chef in Japan and it shows. The fish is beyond fresh and flavorful! There are many cuts of different fish bellies and these were by far our favorites. Went to try Dau sushi, which just opened up near our house. I'm very impressed, the look, feel and ambiance of the actual space is amazing, it was designed very well. I love that small menu, which allows the restaurant to provide quality sushi and dishes. We ordered rolls. Nigiri, and some dinner entrees and food was amazing. Honestly it is the best quality of sushi, tuna, shrimp and Wagyu beef that I have ever tasted. We ordered the edamame which was perfectly cooked with the right amount of salt and crisp. We had the salmon Ikura roll, truffle salmon roll, liberty hill roll, all from the Chef's Signature Rolls menu and the rainbow roll from the classic rolls. Ordered for pickup for a quick lunch as this is close to home and was not disappointed. The salmon teriyaki was cooked perfectly and the teriyaki glaze was sweet and savory. The California Roll tasted fresh and you get a good sized portion in the bento box. The salad could've used just a tad more dressing and the miso was a little heavier than I'm used to, but those are minor complaints and I'd definitely order this again. read more

The atmosphere was great for date night, but the service was really slow and they turned on the air even though it was cold out. I had to wear my jacket the whole time. The food made up for these things though. We tried some authentic pieces of nigiri and several delicious rolls. Their hot sake was so soothing and tasty. I 1 billion percent recommend this place! The freshness of the fish is unmatched to all the other sushi spots around Leander. The chu toro melts in your mouth. I recommend doing an Omakase roll, it won't disappoint. The ambiance of the restaurant is very inviting from the decoration to the staff here. Everyone is very friendly and attentive and not to mention Dau (the owner) going around to all the tables making sure everyone is enjoying their meal.
