Osaka Mansun Restaurant is a Japanese and Korean restaurant owned by Koreans. This is the worst kalbi I've ever had in my entire life. It was mostly all bones and gristle. It was inedible and not chewable. I wouldn't even feed this to my 6 lb dogs for fear of choking. It was so bad that I placed another order for kalbi at Korea House. Tasty and fresh sushi. This place is small, intimate and feels comfortable. You're able to have a conversation without having to yell. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating. We started with the spicy garlic edamame. It is definitely spicy, but very delicious. I had the Alaska roll and the salmon and crab tasted fresh. Oh my goodness! This hidden gem is absolutely amazing and delicious! I don't even remember how I discovered this hidden gem but I'm so glad I did. It is located in a shopping center and you would never know it is a great place to dine whether lunch or dinner. I absolutely love everything in the menu but let me share my personal favorites. I always order the blackened tuna appetizer that is peppered sashimi style tuna with goat cheese and a delish sweet and spicy wasabi sauce . Also paired with spicy tuna hand rolls and the miss sambal roll, Kevin roll and latin roll which is fried. Service can be a little slow but the environment is super authentic and chill and the guys behind the sushi bar and very nice. read more

I came here for dinner with my girl friend on a Friday night! I had called earlier in the day to ask if I needed a reservation and the staff recommended to -- it was quick and easy to do. I'm glad I called because shortly after we were seated (~6:30pm), the restaurant started getting busy. My metric to test a restaurant's sushi is always to order their chirashi bowl if they offer it, and the chirashi at Osaka Mansun did not disappoint! The portion size is massive - the cuts of nigiri are thick and the chef gave me a great variety. Everything tasted fresh and the garnishes were lovely. I especially appreciate the inclusion of perilla leaf. I ordered another chirashi bowl to-go for my boyfriend and he loved it too! I'll definitely be taking him here in the future. read more

I've been going to Osaka Mansun for decades with my family. It's such a cozy and intimate dine-in experience and I love going there for special occasions like New Year's and ordering one of the large sushi platters. The korean dishes are great too, and I recommend stopping by for lunch for the best bento boxes. You really can't go wrong, and if you like salmon don't skip out on the Mother Daughter roll. read more

We went for my boyfriend's birthday today, and they don't take reservations but the staff was so nice to help us secure a table after knowing it's for birthday celebration! There were not many people dining in because it's Tuesday, but clearly there are transparent plastic shields between tables to make it safe. The food was really delicious. We actually got lost with so many items on the menu, and it was really hard to choose with such variety including both Korean and Japanese. The tuna tower and wagyu were really tasty and the portion size were quite reasonable. We also had veggie tempura and they were so crispy and fresh! We wanted to have some sashimi but didn't want any rolls, so we ordered chirashi and the seafood all tasted fresh! I wish I could have tasted the food, but on a Friday at 1pm, the service was nonexistent. We waited at the door without a host, people who came behind us sat themselves and got served first! we got a table, then waited 30min without any further acknowledgement (not even water). I have been eating here since the first week they opened, but I will not be eating here anymore. I have brought family and friends here for more than a decade. My most recent visit, I ordered off of the Korean menu and was told that I could not have a second side dish of kimchi. I protested, but also said I would pay for it, and the waiter who I have never seen turned and walked away for me with a scoffing sound and didn't return until he brought the check and dropped it in front of me in a way that made it apparent he was displeased. As I had brought several friends after weeks of bragging about how wonderful the restaurant was, I was completely embarrassed (and dissatisfied). Each had an issue with the waiter for the food they were served. None of the issues were resolved. Because I was so embarrassed and angry, one of my friends offered to pay for everything. When he went to pay for the four of us, the waiter. (I think his name was Keith.) told my friend the lowest tip he could leave was 20% and stared him down until he paid it. Today my husband and I decided to come here to have lunch since I wanted to have some Korean/ Japanese food. First of all, you have to use QR code to see the menu. For some reason the link didn't work on my phone, I asked the waitress if we could get a MENU. She said no, they only use the QR code. Seriously, a restaurant don't have a menu, is this a joke? I saw the table next to me have a paper menu, why couldn't I get one? Well, I didn't want to argue. She said she can tell me what they have, like sushi and bento box. I ended up ordering Bibimbap because I don't know what else they have other than sushi and bento box. My husband ordered shrimp tempura lunch special and it didn't come with salad anymore. They want to charge you $2 for a salad. I got a basic bibimbap, with a side salad. Later I found out that salad cost me $7.95. This salad didn't taste as good as before, missing some tangy flavor. The bibimbap looked pretty but it didn't have much taste. I only tasted the salt on the veggies. It also came with 2 tiny side dishes. Overall we weren't impressed with the food and the service. The food was bland. My biggest complaint was using QR code for the menu, what if your phone doesn't work, what if your phone screen is too small. This is stupid. I order this from Uber eats and it's probably the best take out sushi (that is reasonably priced) that I have had in austin. It came quickly, it was packaged nicely and it was overall just a very pleasant experience. I got a jalapeño hamachi roll, a sensational roll, a choo-choo roll, crunch shrimp roll, a salmon skin roll and some blackened tuna. My favorite by far was the blackened tuna, as it wasn't your typical tuna tataki. It came with goat cheese and a sweet wasabi sauce. It was some of the best tuna that I've had in austin. Anyways, if you're in the mood for some decently priced quality sushi, I highly recommend Osaka Mansun! read more

Came here for lunch on a Friday, place was packed. All seats taken. Their lunch menu makes this place worth it, otherwise... I feel like the dinner menu (which you can order from at lunch) is a little over the top, think Cheesecake Factory of the Asian world. Onto the lunch, for about $13 per plate, you can basically order almost anything you want since the dishes fall into the $9-$15 range. Comes with miso (bland) and a small salad. Also, Bento Box options as well.... Went ahead and ordered the sashimi with spicy tuna roll, and the sushi with jalapeno roll. Sashimi tuna was a little frozen on the inside, ice crystals kinda crunch while biting in. Rolls were decent, nothing to write home about, but for the price, it was what I was expecting. I'm all about spending money on high quality sashimi, and they have a sashimi combo for about $128... But I would never justify ordering it here. For lunch? It's worth a stop in, dinner? I think I would pass on it. If you are trying to go on lunch, I recommend going a little before 12ish, so you don't have to wait for a seat. read more

Small but cozy strip mall sushi spot offering tasty fresh fish and Korean staples. Dropped in mid afternoon for a late lunch and ordered salmon belly and mackerel nigiri, plus a bowl of teok mandu guk--dumpling and rice cake--soup. The nigiri were of a good size, neatly prepared and delicious. The mandu soup, which came a selection of banchan, had a pretty garnish of shredded seaweed and a healthy amount of dumplings, egg and scallions, though as I emptied the bowl, there was a ton of rice cakes in the bottom which I was unable to finish. It had a belly-filling home-cooked flavor, but just way too much rice cake. A good variety of sushi, cool illustrated flipbook menu to help with decision-making, friendly service and a convenient location gives Osaka Mansun the edge of other sushi spots whenever I'm in town. read more

Ok this is the 2nd time I have been here. It's not bad per se but never wowed. Maybe because there are other places like Odaku nearer to me that's just like it and cheaper with larger portions. Sushi one piece was fishy other salmon was delicious. Big piece with lil rice just the way I like it. Cali rolls not bad. It's the kids bento I have a problem with. Not sure it was worth the $9 at all. Kids enjoyed it because they were hungry but so sparse with rice, chicken teriyaki, 1 fried tempura n fried sweet potato and 2 dumplings. You can get a large teriyaki meal at Sarku for less than $7! We also got the dumpling soup and it was tasty but $11 is alot. Other places charge under $10 for bigger bowls but it was tasty albeit a bit peppery but tasty. Panchans were ok, nothing special again. The 2 sushi roll wasn't bad but again nothing spectacular. Our friends came all the way from Houston said the same thing-not love. Just not wowed about this place even though they aren't mean or anything. Service is ok. Not sure I like how they added 18% gratuity for you just because we had separate tables of 8 and 2. It's a very small place. Barely fit us. Our lunch came out to $70 per family. And for that amount larger portions would be nice. Anyways its not like I wouldn't come back for a solo sans family n kids for lunch but only if someone suggested it. As a Korean person, I'm required to eat Korean food once in a while or I'll fade away from existence. I'm joking. Kinda. Anyway the food here is fantastic (both Korean and Japanese). The seating inside might be a little tough for larger parties, but for a meal with a few friends it's perfect. In my opinion, the Korean food near the UT campus is pretty bad. No that's an understatement. It's straight up awful...but Koreans are pretty picky about their Korean food. That's why when I eat here, I look forward to it and know I'll be satisfied because of how much better it is from the Korean "food" offered near school. Another win is that they give you a larger amount of Korean side dishes than other Korean restaurants. Whether it's sushi or a Korean dish, Osaka Mansun is a solid choice! read more

Osaka has a great happy hour menu! Happy hour is Mon - Thu 5-7pm, and there is a variety of rolls that you can choose from. I got the spicy fufu roll and the dynamite tempura roll from the HH menu. Spicy fufu roll was pretty good. I did not enjoy the dynamite tempura roll at all. However, I ordered it without realizing that the whole roll was covered with tempura (and I am not a huge fan of tempura). Those two rolls filled me up perfectly! As for my friend, she loved the spicy salmon roll here. The restaurant itself is small, and the lights are dimmed. Noise level is low. And there aren't that many people even during dinner time. Our waiter did his job, but nothing more than that. I heard Osaka makes some good Korean food. So definitely, I will be back to try them out! read more

We have three people and got in the restaurant right after it's opened, around 11:20am, we are the first group of people there and first group to order food. We ordered a 32 pieces sashimi combo and a seafood bibimbap. After about 20 minutes waiting, the lady brought us our sashimi combo, and forgot about the seafood bibimbap. So we asked her to bring it too, she said she thought it's a take home order blah blah~~~and then, after another 40 minutes, the bibimbap still wasn't brought to us! She said there are a lot of orders, we have to wait. But this is the first order they have, and we have been told we have only 1 hour dine in time. No one's else was told so, is this weird? We sat there waited another 20 minutes to get our food. The worst thing is, she doesn't have any manner, didn't even apologize for her messed up order, but also yelled at us, like we did anything wrong! This place was our favorite sushi place and used to have a nice guy serving us. Not sure what happened to place and this lady deserve to be fired. Who is the boss of this restaurant?
