EJ's Hot Pot & Sushi is a fantastic addition to the North Austin dining scene. We visited for lunch on a Saturday and were pleasantly surprised that there was no wait at all. One thing to note: weekends are automatically priced at the dinner menu rate, regardless of the time of day. The food was excellent. The all-you-can-eat format offers a great selection of both hot pot ingredients and sushi. For seafood lovers, there are plenty of options including shrimp, mussels, scallops, squid, fish balls, fish cakes, and more. Everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. The service truly stood out. The staff was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and quick to help throughout our meal. The restaurant itself has a very clean, modern aesthetic that reminded me of some of the newer hot pot restaurants in China. The restrooms were also spotless, which is always appreciated. I also enjoyed the small hot foods section, which offered a nice variety of ready-to-eat items. My favorite part of the meal was dessert--the tofu pudding station. You can customize it with different tapioca toppings and syrups, and it was the perfect way to end the meal. Overall, EJ's delivers a great combination of quality food, excellent service, and a stylish atmosphere. I'll definitely be coming back, especially when I'm in the area. Austin can always use more spots like this, and EJ's is a welcome addition. I'd give it 5/5 stars! If they did add some frozen oysters, that would be the cherry on top of the five out of five stars I am rating it. read more

Overall: 4.4/5 [dine in] We came on a Friday night with a big group of friends and ended up at 3 separate tables near each other. It is an all you can eat hot pot for $34.99 and you can add sushi for $5. You choose your broth and order sushi through your server. I got the tom yum and my husband got the three delicacies which is their most popular. Both were good but I can see why the three delicacies wins. It is creamy, flavorful, and gives you that warm feel good feeling like a bowl of chicken noodle soup when you are sick. After choosing your broth you head to the buffet to make your sauce and pick out frozen items for your hot pot. They also have a hot food bar and a dessert bar. For the hot food bar I would only recommend the pork belly and the ribs and skip the fries. For dessert, their tofu pudding topped with white boba pearls was really good and a great option if you are not feeling ice cream. The sushi came out in a beautiful presentation but I wished they had separated the orders since our table got confused about which one was ours. I only tried the sashimi since I was already too full and it was not bad at all. Our table was debating whether the sushi was better than Hokkaisan and the majority voted yes. Service was great throughout and I enjoyed the meal so much that I was still full the next morning and skipped breakfast. Overall a very solid spot. read more

If you want a solid hot pot experience, go on down to EJ's. Unlike other hot pot places, you don't have to order your meat with your server. You go get it yourself. I really like how you can shovel as much hot pot meat on a plate as you want. It's fine, they're great at restocking and there's a two hour limit on the table. Go crazy. The ambiance is warm and inviting and the service is hospitable. Each time I've visited, the staff has been friendly and accommodating. EJ's has several tasty veggie and noodle options. Their hot dish options are pretty tasty as well. I have yet to try the unlimited sushi option but it looks good. My only criticism about this place is that the dessert is not great. The vanilla ice cream cup tastes like the blandest cup of frozen milk, but it improves when you pair it with one of those dry little cakes. Terrible dessert aside, it's a solid place if you enjoy hot pot. read more

EJ's is a new restaurant that serves AYCE hotpot and sushi. Naturally after hearing about it my friends and I scrambled to give it a try. They're still in their soft opening so I want to give them some grace. We only got the hotpot so I can't speak for the sushi, but in general, their sauce bar is great and I like that the meat waits on you rather than you waiting on it. Usually at all you can eat hotpot places you're limited by the speed that the server, but at EJ's the meat sits in a self-serve fridge so you can grab as much as you want. You get your own pot that sits on its own induction stove and it feels like everyone has their own little kitchen setup. As far as the meat selection goes, there's beef, lamb, and pork, as well as crawfish, crab, etc. I do like the meat, but I feel like they're trying to accomplish a lot. Rather than having a wow factor, I felt like EJ's was trying to have a little bit of everything. Granted, this restaurant is still in its soft opening and I think they're doing great for being so new. Would recommend a visit! read more

I was a little skeptical at first, but a pretty solid hot pot place. I will say the water taste a little odd to me, but the hot pot and sushi was pretty solid. I got the Three Delicacies Broth and it was creamy and flavorful. Nice selection of veggies and meats and a pretty decent option for sushi. The salmon was delicious and a lot of options to create your sauces. I didn't try any of the hot food or desserts though. Hotpot and sushi combo was worth a try, but the sushi can fill you up by the time you get to the hotpot or vice versa. Honestly whoever gave EJ's a one star review recently... I have no idea why because this place is amazing. It's awesome that Austin has both sushi + hot pot restaurants now, and the quality of both is actually quite good. It's a very clean establishment, and their service is fantastic. Our server brought us our dishes super quickly, and honestly we even got overwhelmed by the amount of plates on the table. I do think I tend to get greedy and glutinous at the start of every meal, so I always want to opt in for both sushi and hot pot, but I definitely think next time I'll only pick hot pot. That's not to say their sushi isn't good because it's actually pretty good quality for AYCE, but I just can't eat that much to justify the price. What's this, a new hotpot hot spot? Hell yeah! They just opened up and it's mercifully quiet right now as a result, but I have a feeling it'll be bustling once the word gets out. They have a strong array of plant-based options, including two hot pot bases. Naturally, I loved the mushroom, but the tomato is also a worthy contender. There are tons of greens, vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, noodles, and more! You can load up on sides and snacks like edamame, seaweed salad, and spring rolls to munch on while your hotpot bubbles away, too. You can walk out of there absolutely stuffed for a great price, especially at lunch, since it's all-you-can-eat. Desserts are limited to cut fruits, but they also have dairy-free boba tea if you're craving something sweet. I'm told that in a few weeks, they'll offer sushi and BBQ items too. No clue what might be vegan, but you can bet I'll be back to find out! read more

This place was very pretty and clean. Love that I recognized some of their Chinese songs playing in the background . We opted for hotpot only instead of hotpot + sushi. Thought the sushi add on would be too filling for us. I got the tom yum broth and it was deep in flavor but leaned a bit too sour. The sauce balanced it out though. Tasted perfect when meat was dipped in the sauce. I did get to try my friend's three delicacies broth, which had the deep, umami, and rich flavor (reminded me of Maruchan chicken ramen broth). They had a nice selection of sauces and their house sauce was delicious. Their meat was of decent quality for an AYCE spot. Lots of vegetable options. I enjoyed the hot bar as well, esp the onion rings and the flavoring of the crawfish although some of them looked a bit dark inside (unsure if overcooked or sediment etc). Service was good. There is slightly less variety but the quality seemed to be good for veggies/meat. The seafood options were really nice and the manager and service was friendly when I went. The hot buffet options wasnt working when we got here but they gave us a menu to choose from. They weren't bad and came out promptly. Sushi isn't available yet but will be in the future for an additional fee. I think comparable to the other AYCE places around town. The pots are individual style and I enjoyed the broth I had. I went alone to the first soft opening day during lunch. The manager and staff were present and attentive. They featured free juice pitcher for the first 10 lunch and dinner tables every day for one week. I was informed that the sushi will be available in 2-3 weeks. I was also curious about the kbbq grill on the table and they said they will implement some time in the future which is surprising as I didn't know kbbq was an option. Carbonated drinks are not included in the AYCE price. I hope they will be in the future. Starting off with the important part here: the broth. Broth is what makes hot pot delicious and special. There were many broths to choose from but I went with my favorite one, herbal. It was light and delicious; I wish to try the other broths, but I will have to see at another time since you can only get 1 broth per visit. The ingredients were plentiful, but some spaces in the buffet were empty. I have suggested Chinese fried mantou buns with condensed milk as a dessert for the fried area section along with apron bibs and the manager took my suggestions into consideration. They may implement an ice cream machine in the future. Lots of noodles to choose from, seafood area was good, and the green area was serviceable. My favorite from the small appetizer area was with pickled cabbage salad and seafood salad. Meat area was beef, lamb shoulder, chicken, and pork belly. I had a helping to all of the options and the meat slices were yummy. I like how the meat area is self service because you can control the portion of the meat unlike other places which is troublesome when you are dining alone. For bubble tea, I had one on the house to sample and chose the super fruits tea. They asked for ice and sugar level which is surprising because at other hot pot places, tea is pre made with no option to adjust. I chose no sugar and it tasted wonderful which is honestly surprising for a hot pot place. I would get it again on my next visit. I'm not sure what the difference is for food selections between lunch and dinner as I only came for lunch. Will have to ask next time as the price increases for dinner. EJ's just opened up amidst the MANY AYCE spots opening up in Austin, and so far it withstands the competition pretty well. Offering, both hotpot and sushi, there is a large variety and you can find something for everyone. Hotpot: For me, this was the best part. The broth is flavorful and delicious, the meat is pretty tender, and there is a good variety of different seafood, vegetables, and carb options. Sauce bar is good too. Broths: - Three delicacies: This was my favorite broth I tried. It had a deeply chicken savory flavor that was rich and warming. - Herbal: A lighter savory broth - Chicken and ginko nuts: It's in the middle of the above two. You still get a savory meat/chicken flavor, but with a hint of herbal notes. Meats: - Beef Brisket: This was good! - Beef Tender: Tender - Chicken Breast: I preferred the beef, but it is still good, nice and thinly cut Sushi: The sushi was standard in my opinion. It was good, nothing too outstanding, but it was good! The sashimi was fresh and the rolls were alright. Nothing to note here. Service: It started out pretty fast, you get the broth fast, but as we ordered more sushi, service slowed down and we had to wait quite a while nearing the end for our sushi order. Desserts: There is a dessert section with different fruits, ice cream, and cake. There is also a tofu pudding dessert with toppings like boba and pearls. The ice cream cups were pretty good (vanilla and strawberry). The cake was like your typical buffet style desserts, although the puff pastry cream dessert was my favorite of them all. Taro Slushie: This surprsied me the most, because it was amazing. It's like something I'd buy from an actual teahouse/cafe! Sweet, not icy at all just nice and smooth and strongly flavored. It is a big space with a lot of seating so you can come as a group or eat by yourself. There is also a bowl of mints at the front that are fruit flavored! We went during lunchtime, and the place had a really nice ambiance. Our server was very helpful when it came to making sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the original base soup and enjoyed it--I prefer something simple rather than overly complex flavors. I also appreciated that they provide gloves at the buffet station, which helps maintain cleanliness and prevents cross-contamination. There was a good variety of ingredients available for the soup, giving plenty of options to choose from. We also tried the sushi, and there was a decent selection available. Me, my girlfriend and some friends decided to give the place a shot. Went on a Thursday for lunch. Lunch menu was limited but lots of great choices. Lots of choices on the type of broth. I had the spicy which was either really spicy or not that spicy. The nit that spicy was good. But boy was it spicy! And I like spicy stuff. Place was really clean and all the food on the buffet looked amazing. As many have said the sushi part wasn't opened yet. So look forward to that. But will go again. Ej's Hot Pot review! It was my hubby's and my first time there! We went at lunch so there was a semi limited menu. No sushi just yet but the staff said it'd be available in 2-3 weeks. My hubby got the Tom yum soup base and I got the mushroom soup. Both tasted good although I liked the tom yum more than my mushroom base. There were plenty of veggie options, 4 frozen meat options and a good amount of seafood and noodle options to satisfy all sorts of picky eaters. I hope there will be more meat options in the future. Soupleaf still has the best meat options thus far. The staff, Emily specifically, was very attentive, patient and helpful when we asked questions or had feedback! She's amazing at her job. I look forward to going back for dinner to try out their other dinner options and trying the other soup bases. Side note, I asked the staff about mixing soup bases like Soupleaf will do, and they said the pots are a little small for that but you could add spice like the Mala flavor to another base if you would like. 5/8/26. First time to visit. Took mom out for lunch and was very impressed. Chose the hot pot and sushi. Spicy brother was full of flavor and the food options were top knotch. Opted to split a volcano roll for the sushi and it turned out to be the right choice. The sweet garlic dipping sauce was amazing. Good with the sushi and everything else cooked in the hot pot. Let me start by saying the food was amazing. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by the memorably horrible service that left a bad taste in our mouth. We had a party of 6 and an infant. My teenage son selected this place to celebrate his birthday and none of us had ever experienced a hot pot restaurant. We informed our server of our lack of experience and asked for some guidance which was not effectively provided. She refused to take our sushi order even though we were ready because she said she had to check on other tables. Only one of the broth pots were boiling when we came back with our ingredients which I noticed but didn't realize we were supposed to wait for it to boil so I added my ingredients only to be told after that I should wait. Then I realized my temperature was on the lowest setting. When I mentioned this, the server came around to me and insisted that I turned it down. I informed her I was trying to turn it up and she said she watched me turn it down. At the end I sat at the table waiting for my card to be returned after I paid for the check. I noticed my server standing at the front behind the register socializing with two other young ladies as I waited. I walked up to the front and asked for my card and receipt. She acted as if she had given it to me already. Then she said one of my guests that was at the table must have taken it only to discover it was sitting behind her underneath a stack of other checks. I badly wanted to speak to a manager but I didn't want to spoil my son's birthday. On a lesser note, I wish it was cooler inside the restaurant especially when eating such hot food on a really hot day. read more

Definitely was not impressed with this place. First off the Korean barbecue grills at the table weren't hooked up so that portion wasn't available. The broth was okay, but not the greatest. The options to season your broth were kind of limited in my opinion compared to other places I've been. Secondly, the service was really bad. Our waitress was nice, but very inattentive to our needs. They never filled our waters and only gave it to us if we asked even while she was clearing plates from our table. Third of all the options for meat was really poorly executed. They have beef, lamb, chicken, and pork. They state on a little sign that the lamb is halal, but doesn't have it away from the pork which goes against it being halal!? I personally am not halal, but have known people who are and I find it really frustrating. In the picture I have you can see a piece of lamb in the chicken so you know they cross contaminate all the time. Not to mention the utensils to serve yourself are all mixed together. I saw many people using the same tongs to grab from different meat options. I'm really sad because I love places like this. The ambiance isn't bad which makes it just that much more disappointing. I really tried to like this place, but genuinely just couldn't. The sushi was the best part, but at that point why come to an all you can eat hot pot? The all you can eat it menu is for everything on the menu including appetizers which is good I guess. I just really can't get past everything else that is wrong with this place. I've been to a few hot pot places in Austin and this one I wouldn't recommend to anybody. The broths were ok at best, I had the spicy and added various veggies and meats which were all low quality one of the major issues I saw is that they labeled their Lamb as Halal while it was sitting next to the Pork and having people use the same tongs to grab said meat. The sushi was bland and they threw a load of toppings on them that masked any flavor the sushi may of had. The service was polite but lacking, I had to ask the waiter multiple times to fill the water and she wouldn't fill my dates drink even though it was empty too. The ambiance was nice and everything was clean but the waiter said the table was unable to use the grill because they don't have enough power going to the tables to run both the hot pot burners and the grill at the same time. read more

While the place and ambiance was nice, and our waitress was friendly, the food fell short compared to other hot pot restaurants in Austin. The options for sauce and its additions were limited. The quality of the meat was stringy, fell apart immediately in the broth, was much smaller and overall did not taste as great as other places. There is additionally concern for the cross contamination between various kinds of meat and the mixed use of the utensils between meats. The broth was mediocre as well. As for the sushi, the quality is comparable to store-bought/grocery sushi, and I did not want to finish it. For the quality, taste, and price, I would recommend considering other places. read more
