Found it! Our new obsession. Hubby, son and I have been eating sushi like once a week. This time we wanted to try something new so I used yelp to discover sushi yume. First off we almost skipped it as we are not a fan of this plaza but will say we are SO glad we didn't. Arrived at 4:50 on a Tuesday afternoon and not a table in sight. We signed in to wait behind another gentleman but then were offered the shushi bar which we accepted. I was shocked to learn they have been here for 2.5 years, truly mind blown. The server said there is almost always a wait and on the weekends can be close to 2 hours. Wow. We ordered 4 rolls and 2 deserts and were very satisfied with everything! Our favorite was the crappy salmon and the popcorn roll. The place was small but clean and cute. Loved the little details like the little cats as chip stick prop ups/holders. First off, the sushi was undeniably FIRE and SO fresh! Every single bite was delicious. I took my daughter here for a little sushi date, and we had such a good time. She eats sushi, but she doesn't eat too much raw fish yet, so I told her she had to "cheers" with me every bite while I was teaching her how to eat and enjoy different kinds of sushi. Then the tables turned because SHE had to teach ME how to eat the soba noodles since it was my first time trying them. She goes, "Mom, it's in anime!" LOL. Apparently she knew exactly what she was doing. All of the workers were really nice, welcoming, and attentive. The restaurant was SUPER busy, and since it was our first time there, we didn't mind waiting. And honestly, it was definitely worth the wait! My daughter especially loved the ambiance. She made me take a bunch of pictures of her with the "aesthetic"x It was nice and quiet, and the seating had enough space that you weren't hearing the entire conversation from the group next to you. I do wish the restaurant was a little bigger, but hey... maybe in due time because they definitely deserve it! They also surprised us with a complimentary Pepper Fin -- yellowtail topped with jalapeño, greens, and sauce -- and OMG, it was SO GOOD! We sat at the bar, so the sushi chef handed us our food as it was prepared. The eel in the caterpillar roll was still warm when I got it. So good! Luckily, I don't gate keep because this place should be open forever so everyone can get a taste of this delicious sushi. A foodie friend who had gone for dinner said that he recommended literally on the menu and that dinner waits may exceed two hours. So I came here for lunch with a coworker at 1 to avoid the lunch rush. We were seated and served so promptly! It's a small store front that is clean and there are not many tables so I can understand why there may be a substantial wait for dinner, and, it's worth it! You can pretty much see the sushi chef's working their magic from at least half the tables at the restaurant. We had the sea bream as an appetizer that was on the house. My coworker only likes raw fish if it's wrapped in seaweed (so sashimi and nigiri is out with him) but he made an exception for the sea bream and he loved it. I got the chef's set and every bite was exquisite and delicious. The crunch roll was divine and the blue crab roll was good too. Lunch for both of us was about $40 dollars so it's not an everyday place but we were so happy and satisfied with everything we had! read more

I love Sushi Yume -- hands down my favorite sushi restaurant in Austin. The pricing is fair and the quality is exceptional. They offer daily specials as well as solid lunch deals. If you're not into raw seafood, they have great rolls, but the sashimi is always incredibly fresh. I also love the donburi here -- it's my favorite in town. The rice is perfectly seasoned and the fish is consistently fresh. Compared to other places that are more expensive, the chirashi don here is an excellent value. The space itself is very small and seating is very limited. I don't recommend large groups but I would make a reservation for parties of more than four and calling ahead. They do accept walk-ins, but on weekends expect a 45-60 minute wait. read more

Really good quality and well-seasoned sushi rolls and nigiri! For the quality, the price is justified and reasonable. We got the double salmon roll, snow roll, squid nigiri, seared salmon nigiri, and scallop nigiri. The rolls are fat and loaded! The nigiris already come seasoned so we didn't even need to add soy sauce. Rice is done well with thick pieces of fish on each. Again, amazing quality. The only downfall is that we didn't fancy their appetizers much. We got the tempura which the batter was light and didn't feel greasy, but severely under seasoned. On the other hand, the shishito peppers were so overly salty. For the agedashi tofu, the tofu to batter ratio was off. I wish they had cut the tofu thinner. They have some lunch specials on their menu - I chose the two roll special, and got the spicy salmon + dragon roll. The rolls were very good and huge + filling. Very generous portions and thick cuts of fish. In retrospect I wish I'd tried some nigiri and sashimi since raw fish seems to be their specialty. Will definitely be doing that next time. The only blip in our experience was the service. We arrived when the restaurant opened, at 11am and got seats immediately. The restaurant didn't start filling up until closer to noon. However within the first 5 mins of being seated, I felt very pressured to order immediately, before I was ready. The fish here is really fresh and the prices are pretty decent for the portion size that you get. They have a good range of sushi rolls, sashimi, and handroll options that most sushi spots in Austin. My husband and I loved every dish! Our least favorite was their Karaage which came with a sweet chili sauce dipping sauce. I prefer a more mayo based sauce. I heard that there is usually a wait so I came at 5 pm on a Tuesday and got seated immediately, although by the time I finished the place was full. It's a simple, classic American sushi restaurant, but the food punches much higher than that. The tako (octopus) wasabi appetizer was delicious and cleared out my sinuses about 17 times, the miso soup was classic, and I was gifted a tasty piece of seared salmon sushi. After seeing everyone recommend the double salmon roll I felt that had to be my choice, and it's a nice sized 8 piece roll, quite saucy, and the highlight is the generous ikura (salmon roe) on top. Should be called triple salmon roll then lol. Not many American sushi places use ikura, and they also had fresh root wasabi for $8, another sign of quality. Prices are slightly more than usual but sushi is always up there so it's hard to fault them. Highly recommend! read more

Hands-down, one of the best sushi restaurants in Austin I've ever been to and I've been in the city since 2014. I've been to ultra high fine dining, Omakase, all the types in Austin. This restaurant has to be the number 1 value to dollar to taste sushi restaurant that just opened. Incredible fresh fresh capital F in fresh sashimi, every single slice of fish tasted incredible fresh. I have no idea how they did this, I guess the chef caught the fish in the ocean and sliced it directly for me? Have to be. They have fresh wasabi the real deal and I've never had it at a normal sushi restaurant until now. I've had it with ultra high fine dining but not your regular restaurant. The wasabi is sweet not that horseradish type. Even the board it comes on looks like a shark fin board. Normally, I would explain the textures of each dish, but anyone reading this just think of soft, fibrous, firm, crispy, salty, seawater, low amount of seaweed and sugar all over the meal.
