    Akami nigiri happy hour
    Elle K.

Amazing food, amazing service and chill upscale vibes for happy hour! Came in on a Thursday night at 5 for happy hour and we were the first people in there. Sat at the sushi bar and was able to talk to the chefs and our server and everyone was super helpful and personable. We ordered a lot off the happy hour menu. Was super happy for the amount and the quality of fish we got for the price we paid, so definitely go for happy hour prices. I started with the lychee martini and it was a bit too sweet for me and the vodka tasted a little low quality. Would definitely try something else next time. I will say the glass was ice cold though and I loved that. For hot plates we tried the tuna tartare bites and yellowtail tiradito. Both were amazing! The yellowtail tiradito had incredible flavor with a little spice. We also tried the wagyu yaki and that was one of my favorite bites of the night. The meat was so tender and it's served with pickled cabbage and the vinegary taste with the meat was amazing. We tried the maguro (tuna) temaki and that was really good but nothing insane. Would try another temaki next time just for the sake of trying other things, it was still really good. For nigiri, we tried all three on the happy hour menu. My favorite was the sake, then the hamachi, then the akami. All were incredible and melt in your mouth quality. Could have eaten 20 of all of these! Overall, great quality for the price, delicious bites, and a wonderful spot for an upscale happy hour. There was not a bite I didn't like! Will definitely be back.

3.6/7 I personally thought taste was lacking at this place for how expensive it is. The only dish that had the most flavor and also memorable was the scallop crudo. I was expecting for the skewers to have that umami flavor but left disappointed. Nothing else was memorable. I guess their plating was pretty though. The churros were strange. They were quite dry and also had a bit of a savory after taste to them. Our waitresses were very nice and sweet. They were accommodating.

Ambiance is super cool, dimly lit, and dark, overall all the fish was super fresh! Some other things we got: - Cesar salad -- SO GOOD, I'd say best Cesar salad I've ever had but it's not fully Cesar, has corn and very unique twist to it, 1000% would order again - Make soy sauce in house - yellowtail tradito - fish increbily fresh, it's spicy, the first bit my bf had his exact words were "oh my f*cking God" and I started dancing on my first bite, it's sweet it's spicy, it's amazing, the managed to make passion fruit savory - Hamachi shunko - I thought was good, not great - Maguro temaki & Hotati temaki - both really good, super delish - Toro and uni temaki -- not for me but w/ that being said not a huge uni person - Crispy rice - really good, really unique flavor

Chipotle Caesar -- Definitely wasn't a Caesar, definitely was fkn dank. Soy sauce is straight from horses mouth (made in house), wasabi made that horse kick me in the ribs (it was strong af) Yellowtail Tiradito-- It's sweet, it's spicy, it came to party The waygu skewers were good not great-- the meat was cooked perfect and uniform all the way thru (truuu) Crispy rice -- had watermelon Marmalade. Never had that before. "You were my first" fire

OK, this place is everything plus more. It is small in there, but the vibe is so good. I got seating at the bar which was so nice because you have the guy making the sushi in front of you and he's kind of like your waiter as well when it comes to the food, which is awesome. Definitely make a reservation. I'm not sure how long a wait would be to get a table. It was full when I went at 9 PM on a Saturday night. I didn't get some photos of some food, but let me tell you everything was phenomenal. Nothing tasted fishy. Everything tasted fresh. We started off with some Nagore that was delicious and very well priced for the bottle. As an appetizer, we got the regular edamame, but it came in some kind of seasoning and it was charred that it just made it so good. I literally just wanna go back to keep ordering that. I also got the Uni and let me tell you. It was so creamy and silky. It was delicious. Now let me tell you about the scallop it taste like butter and melt in your mouth. I can probably say we got three rounds of it just because of how delicious it was. We also got yellowtail and they gave it to his complementary to try and no doubt it was so good. I was nervous. It was gonna be fishy and not one bit. I feel like you can't go wrong with anything there. We also got a tuna roll, which was really good. Definitely a new favorite sushi spot of mine that I will keep going back to.

Kinsho is an intimate sushi spot. Perfect for a girls night. The hospitality was unmatched. The food, appetizers, hand rolls and rolls were all great. Their fish was fresh, and very tasty. I would highly suggest the mushroom tempura and the rock crab roll.

Kinsho is super new so we were able to snag a reservation with no problem. It's a quaint, small restaurants nestled off of Rainey. Super cozy vibes inside with the main point of attraction being the open sushi bar. The tables around the bar are quite small and pushed against the booths. You will be seated very close to other tables, so keep that in mind if you're looking for space. Luckily, we came in early so the restaurant was pretty empty and we had no issues with noise. Everything was quite delicious. We basically tried all of their nigiris which were tasty and fresh but on the pricey side. The tuna crudo was okay-- nothing too special. My critique will be about the hand rolls. I wish they waited until the last second to hand them to you because the seaweed was super chewy and not ideal. I prefer my hand rolls to have the crispy seaweed. The black sesame panna cotta was a surprise favorite. Texturally it was perfect but could use more black sesame to dial up the flavor. The service was top notch! Staff were quick and attentive.

Not sure if anyone reads this, but I'll comment anyways…read more I went here with my husband and overall enjoyed it. I've been here 3 times now. I enjoyed it enough to come back a few times and will come back again. In the spirit of constructive criticism, here is what I have to say, just a few things to note though: The bar is not a real bar. It's just another table, but looks like a bar. The bar doesn't actually function like you'd expect a bar to function. Not a dealbreaker, but a bit misleading. You still get a server, can't seat yourself at the bar, etc. Might as well just sit at a table then. If someone reads this, I'd highly suggest at least considering making the bar function like a real bar! The tables are very close together. I know the place is small so this isn't something you can really change without losing money by reducing the amount of tables, but boy they are packed close. This is more something that maybe customers would like to know though. Management is all white, but the sushi chefs are Japanese. The servers are mostly white too. Not that this is a problem, but it does strike me as a little bit surprising and ever so slightly off-putting. At least, it makes me question what's going on initially. I know supposedly the owners are Japanese, per their website, but it might be nice to see more Japanese people in charge, at a Japanese place. The bussers look to be the hardest working kids out there. I hope they get paid fairly. Every time I've been there, they're the ones rushing around as fast as they can, cleaning up tables all over the place. I'm surprised they only have a couple of them, when they have way more servers. Not sure if this is normal, but they seem to be working really hard. There is no "Happy Hour", Google lied. Google has on their page that they have a happy hour when you look up this place. Turns out they don't. The servers are a little bit loud and rowdy sometimes. I know they all look to be in their mid to early 20's, but it might get to be a bit much. When they go back into their little corner or "hideout" they seem to be screaming and talking really loudly sometimes. Also, they like to scream "CORNER" constantly. I get that this might be a thing they do, to avoid crashing into each other, but there's no need to scream it across the entire building. Especially when it is quiet already. Speaking of screaming, when you walk in, they scream (I looked up what it is so forgive me if this is a typo): IRASHAIMASE (which apparently is "welcome in" in Japanese. The thing is, instead of making it a classy, cute thing they do, they scream it as obnoxiously as they can, like junior high kiddos would scream "67" these days. It went from cute, to annoying after about the 3rd time I heard them do it, while I was eating. If they all said it in a pleasant classy way, I would really like it, although it's become really quite obnoxious. It even looks like some of the employees are over it. I can't imagine how many times they do that daily. Lastly, the music does not match the atmosphere at all. One time I went in, they had rock music on, the next, they had country. The last time I went, they had 80's. They should either have classical or wordless music such as jazz, or some kind of Japanese music. Not sure why they have such out-of-place music. My most previous server was a doll! I also hope the servers get paid. Some of them weren't as friendly, but I won't rag on individual people, as they may have been just having a bad day. The most previous one had pink hair though and was super cute and friendly. As for another good thing, the ambiance and food are definitely above average and the prices don't break the bank. Overall, quite enjoyable place. None of the things I mentioned should make you avoid this place by any means. This is mostly for the staff and management to fix a few things, if they care. That is it! Hopefully someone at least reads this. Not sure if managers actually read these reviews though. If not, oh well. Hope this helps someone one day!

On my first visit, I tried almost every small plate on the specials menu, which ended up being a mistake because that didn't seem to be where the restaurant shines. Several of the dishes, including the tako wasabi and monkfish, were heavily salted and difficult to enjoy. Because the restaurant had such strong reviews, I decided to give it another try and focused instead on the barbecue items, skewers, and dipping ramen from the main menu. Everything I ordered the second time was excellent. The skewers were savory and flavorful, the barbecue meats were tender, and the dipping ramen came with wonderfully bouncy, chewy noodles that paired perfectly with the rich broth. I'm glad I gave Kemuri Tatsu-ya another chance. I'd definitely return and would recommend sticking to the main menu, especially the barbecue, skewers, and dipping ramen.

I must have driven by this restaurant whenever I was on Parmer for like 15 years ... and never got…read morearound to going in. When I finally did, I discovered one of the best Japanese restaurants in Austin. Okay ... if you are going to pay $600 for an omikase then the omikase place is better. The tasting menu at Uchi is better. But if you just want Japanese without paying a gold brick and taking out a second mortgage on your house, Miyo Yakitori and Sushi is pretty damm fine. * * * a) Japanese curry is a utility dish in most Japanese restaurants ... and when you get down to it, in most Japanese homes. It is often what you serve on "cheap" night. Airport hotels offer it as the "free dinner" for tired travellers. The curry sauce itself here is standard issue. But they serve it with a Pork Katsu the size of Williamson county. And it is a very good Pork Katsu. That Katsu was good from Liberty Hill to Thrall and from Hester's Crossing to Jarrell. b) My carnivorous partner's Fireball Udon with Shellfish blew him away. Temperature wise and aesthetic pleasure wise. He raved about how good his udon was all the way home. c) Service was instantaneous. I think there was some sort of event horizon distortion of the space time continuum that allowed them to prepare the food and then go back in time and deliver it within a minute of it being ordered. Both of us were impressed. d) The service staff was as nice as any human beings could possibly be. * * * Great food. Great service. The folks who live in the apartment complex that Miyo is in are very lucky people indeed. Either the apartments are lovely and they get Miyo on top of that. Or the apartments are terrible, but they can still spend all their time in Miyo to compensate. Seems like a fair trade. **************** If you read the other reviews, There seems to be some controversy about this establishment. Miyo has fans and Miyo has haters. * * * Here is my read on the conflicting opinions: a) Earlier in the restaurant's history - Say about 2016, 17, or 18, The restaurant was not very good at all. I think at that time it had another name. b) There was a name change and quality went up. Sometimes when this happens there is an ownership change (or there is an owner who swaps out the management and cooking team to put in new blood.) However, things got fixed, they got fixed. c) Miyo's yakitori is apparently still not where it needs to be. I am not a huge Yakitori fan. If your broiled meat on a stick is not $80 an ounce Wagyu, Or amazing organ meats grilled in the Caucasus Barded with lamb fat and with farm fresh vegetables On another skewer for serious taste contrast ... If you are not at that high level, I don't want to pay for meat on a skewer. There are people who DO like Yakitori. They do NOT like the Miyo versions of that. * * * Yakitori is less than 20% of Miyo's menu. The rest is sushi or wonderful cooked dishes. Lay off the skewer food and you can do well here.
