Went it last night for a date night with my partner. Had reservations and it did take a few minutes to get seated. You can watch the kitchen while waiting. Their allocated bourbon selection is top notch. Price-wise is expected. I wouldn't personally say it was cheap but it's better than some other higher-end places with great allocated bourbons to try. Expect to spend 40-60+ for an ounce on the very hard to get items. Food was kind of mediocre to me. It was fine, though nothing was knock you socks off for me. The marinated steak was suggested by a friend, but tasted like marinated korean bbq. I would opt for something a bit more classic if you were to come here, unless you adore marianted kbbq, very similar flavor. French dip was tasty. Having just gone to house of prime rib in San Francisco, I think my prime rib and au jus setting might be a bit broken so it wasn't amazing. Just tasty. My partner ordered his steak medium and his steak came out very rare, perhaps even on the blue side. As someone who loves rare steak, it looked to be a bit rarer even for me. That was surprising as I'd expect a place like this to have dialed it in. Perhaps marinated makes it super easy to burn? However, kitchen did promptly address this and the chef(?) came out himself to make sure it was done properly. What surprised me, at the end, was we had a portion of our meal comped because of the mistake. Overall, I think it was worth trying. I have been putting off reviewing this place because it was just such an incredible experience that I didn't know how to put it into words. I think I am ready. I have only been here for takeout during COVID and got the Famous French Dip Au Jus and ate it in my car and had a freak out moment as it was one of the best things I've ever tasted! We had a 4:30 reservation for my birthday (we were with a 6mo year old) and even at such a time, the place was packed! Little did we know how packed it would be as we were leaving! The host was exceptional at their job, checking us in and getting us to a very nice table and getting the baby a high chair (a very elegant one at that). Gabriel was our waiter and was super relaxed as he announced the specials for the night and got us our drinks. Poor guy would be running us about 6 iced teas each all evening but he didn't mind at all. In fact he went so above and beyond with the lemon and saccharine that it was insane. We ordered the following dishes (and no I'm sorry I didn't take any photos because I was 1) too in the moment and 2) was too overwhelmed with how delicious everything was): Asian Noodle Salad, Classic Cheeseburger, Famous French Dip Au Jus, Chimichurri Steak Sandwich, Apple Cobbler, & Key Lime Pie. I've been here a few times over the years. My friends like to come here. It hasn't really been a place for me as a vegetarian, but that's changed! We came here for a birthday specifically for the 100 Hour Marinated ribeye for my friend. She had been talking about it for weeks. Unfortunately, the night we came to celebrate, it was not available. She was crushed. I jokingly said "we can go somewhere else". I'm guessing the server thought I was serious because later the chef came to our table and offered her a special treat. It was very nice of them. She ended up with the Redfish special and she liked it. But it was a huge disappointment anticipating this dinner for weeks. My dinner on the other hand exceeded expectations. I had not been here for many years. I don't recall the House-made veggie burger being on the menu previously. I tried it. It was excellent. Brown rice, mushrooms, beets, jack cheese, and other goodies. The avocado basil slather was perfection. It's not easy to find a really good veggie burger these days. It reminded me a bit of those old-school Steak and Ale-type places. It's a step above casual dining chains like Applebee's or TGI Fridays, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as Austin's highest-end spots like Uchi. It's more of a polished, comfortable place that still feels approachable. The dining room has a warm, almost wine-cellar feel, with exposed brick and fairly low lighting. When we visited on a weeknight it was packed, so I highty recommend making a reservation. The crowd seemed to be a mix of business dinners, client meetings, and people celebrating occasions. We were there for my mom's birthday, which felt like a perfect reason to go. It's the kind of place that works well for a special dinner, a date night, or entertaining clients. One of the very best restaurants in the entire state of Texas. This is an excellent place with its dark candlelight lit like atmosphere, and incredibly skilled and professional staff that make you feel like you're at a classy country club in New York. The prices aren't cheap (keeps the riff raff away) and it's difficult to leave without spending $100 but trust me, if you want to go on a casual date and impress, or if you just simply wanna have the best service you're going to get all year, it's worth it to stop by Bartlett's to get some of the most delicious food the city offers. However, we were seated promptly outside, which was our preference. Delightfully friendly server, Anthony (see photo) greeted us and was a definite add to the dining experience -- as he knew the menu well, made great recommendations, and was genuinely friendly and eager to please. Food at this restaurant was well prepared, very tasty, and portion size was satisfying. We started with the grilled artichokes which we had had before and they are fantastic, with a nice aïoli dip. My wife had a vegetable plate and a crab cake. She makes a great crab cake, but admitted that this crab cake may have been better than hers. All crab, no filling. Outstanding! I had a marinated ribeye and baked potato. Both were delicious. Both of us had enough food that we brought home leftovers which I enjoyed for lunch. Literally, old club events happened less than half a mile south at the old Frisco and sadly Waterloo. In an attempt to find an upscale restaurant for our needs I made a reservation on a recent Saturday. Called the day before as we were trending a bit less. Thought I had it covered and nine car peeps showed up. You read that, 9 hungry diners eager to have a social. It doesn't seem like a big number but it was a breaking point for our reservation. Hey old Bart; I could have brought 30 and not known. So, this restaurant is NOT large party or group friendly. I get it; boils down to limited space. Observations: Patio would have been accommodating except there are not enough chairs for the long concrete table. You literally made a major player in the Austin real estate market stand so his GF could have a seat. Chivalry isn't dead in Austin. Food: I spent more than $50 on a 12 ounce Prime Rib when I would have gotten triple the meat at the Salt Lick in Driftwood for $5 more. Food across the experience was fine but when you factor we spent half the dining experience eyeing chairs to steal. Thankfully, the party at the other end of the long table presented us with chairs as they left. A generous act from other diners and not the restaurant. They were excellent. We split that Thai Mango Salad. It had the right amount of tanginess and spiciness. I had the Famous French Drip and my cousin had that Kansas Strip. Both were excellent. The restaurants are affectively the same...same décor, same amazing food and same phenomenal service. Bartlett's Restaurant is consistent in food quality and impeccable service. The restaurant gives off speak easy vibes with lots of wood throughout the restaurant. It somewhat dimly lit but not too dark that she cannot see your table partner. The kitchen is glass enclosed where you openly watch the chefs deftly grill steaks and other food items. There is a large rectangular bar in the restaurant. Surprisingly, at lunch the bar was filled. I had lunch at Bartlett's with a friend. We both ordered salmon with wilted spinach and red and yellow beets. We had the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer (one of their signature dishes), which was warm, delicious and accompanied with tortilla chips. The salmon was grilled with crispy edges and flavored to tantalize your palate. Our server, Scott, was extremely attentive. He took our order pretty quickly and our food and drinks were served shortly thereafter. His pleasant demeanor enhanced the dining experience. Big shout out to Scott... Since I moved to Austin, we missed our go to spot back home which had an amazing prime rib dish. I wanted to try Bartlett's cause I heard they had a good ribeye and prime rib. To start off we ordered the spinach dip and a side Cesar salad. The main course we ordered the prime rib 12 oz with mash potatoes & bbq pork ribs. Everything came out in good timing. The waiter was super nice and made super she gave us a creamy horseradish and chimichurri sauce. I like the creamy horseradish sauce better than the normal one. Spinach artichoke dip with that roasted salsa is all the yumminess and more. So creamy & spinach full. Left overs of this are delish in eggs. The pear Martini is phenomenal!! Probably one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had dining in a while. First, while it's a bit dark inside, I really like the overall vibe. Our server Patrick, was just awesome. Older gentleman, that could engage well with everyone. Food itself is great. I had the 8oz filet and it was great. Now, it isn't as good as the wagyu from Jeffery's, but for half the price it was a close contender. We also got the smoke salmon appetizer and it was fantastic. Long a staple of North Central Austin, Bartlett's was a date-night choice before a Broadway in Austin show. Known for their steaks and prime rib, that was the choice for the evening. Prime rib was beautifully medium rare (12oz cut), but the star of the show was the Grilled Artichokes. Charred on the outside, almost creamy on the inside, with an accompanying remoulade sauce. Could have used a slice of lemon to add some acid to them, and perhaps a little salt, but that's easy enough to do at the table. Our server was in training that night, so no deductions for this, but "accompaniments" weren't served with the dishes: the mashed potatoes had no butter and none was brought with it, and the remoulade and horse radish for the prime rib weren't brought until asked, either. That's just learning what to serve, and it's partially on the person at the expediter role to ensure. It was very easily corrected, and it's just part of learning the service pattern as a new server. For the price, the prime rib should include at least one other side, a small amount of asparagus or mushrooms, as the potatoes are very heavy and something to cut the balance between heavy starch and protein/fat would be appreciated. All in all, an adequate dinner and someplace we'd come back to if we needed a known-good, but nothing memorable (which in some cases can be a good thing). read more

Having never been to Bartlett's, my husband suggested it as they are "famous for good steaks and prime rib" and who doesn't love a good cut of meat? We did make reservations for a Sunday evening so were able to be seated right away, unlike those without reservations who were told that the wait was 45 min to an hour. Our waitperson was new and in training so gets extra grace because we've all been the new kid trying to figure things out. They were friendly albeit a bit lost and confused but with more training, I can see that they might become an asset to the establishment. The person doing the training, the one she was shadowing, offered little support or guidance from our view and that did her a great disservice in my opinion. We ordered the Grilled Artichokes and honestly, these were the highlight of the evening, although we had to flag down another waitperson for the remoulade listed as the accompaniment as the server who delivered our chokes failed to bring it and our server was no where to be seen. In fact, our server never returned to our table the entire time we were enjoying our appetizer and we had to flag her down just to place our entree order. Going with the Roasted Prime Rib seemed like the right choice. After all, it's what they are apparently known for and the menu describing a Rosemary salt crust, garlic mashed potatoes and au jus sounded delicious. It was underwhelming to say the least. There was very little flavor in any of the meal, save the horseradish sauce on the side. I did add copious amounts of salt and pepper to my own dish but there was no saving the au just which tasted incredibly diluted like something you might serve to someone who has a cold and needs just a hint of flavor to drink their fluids. Rosemary itself is such a powerful herb and I got no taste of it at all throughout the meal. and the "Garlic Mashed potatoes" were akin to something that might have been brought to a family gathering and left sitting out a bit too long. They weren't cold exactly, but they lacked flavor and the consistency I'd expect from a fresh side so I expect they had been sitting out and rewarmed a few times for our meal. To be fair, it wasn't horrible. It was edible and I was hungry, but it wasn't worthy of the price point and I've definitely had superior as more affordable restaurants. There was nothing inspiring about their desert options either so we opted to make our own desert at home. Was it the worst restaurant we've been to? Nope. Will we make an effort to return? This has become a monthly lunch spot for myself and various friends. It has a varied menu with high quality food. Service has always been fabulous. Today was a different experience. We came for a birthday lunch with friends and we're seated at a really nice table to accommodate our party. The food again was SO good. The service was a different story. We had a server who was bothered by us. We had to ask for everything that normally would be provided: cream/sugar with coffee, water refills (never orovided) checking in on us during our meal, correct to go containers for food ordered, ketchup for burgers/fries, etc. There was a clear attitude that created an uncomfortable atmosphere. Stephen may need some additional training, in our opinion, to maintain the level of service Bartletts is known for. I'll be back, of course, because of past experiences. We ordered the Brussels sprouts & carrots which was a seasonal side (I think our waiter said?) I would skip it. The Brussels were slightly hard and only barely steamed. The carrots were amazing tho. It had a yummy sauce on it that really saved the dish but I wouldn't recommend it. I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon. It was soooo soft and tender. I swapped the wilted spinach for a loaded baked potato and it was pretty good but also pretty standard, it's hard to mess that up. My husband ordered the plain Rib Eye and it was also soft and yummy. Both of our dishes came with a roasted tomato with Parmesan on it and it was soooo good, it tasted like a small little pizza bite. I got some special veggies (corn and peas with a mint dressing). Unfortunately, my food arrived and the sandwich was not even warm. The prime rib was fine, but the temperature of it took away from the experience. I also had four bites of the ribeye and it was pure gristle, so I unfortunately didn't love that. Food: 5/5 Bartletts is THE BEST relaxed fine dining in Austin. The steak tartar is insanely good with the chili paste and tastes so fresh. The prime rib sandwich is an absolute must as well and I was literally craving it even after I finished it. Cannot wait to come back! Service: 5/5 Stunningly friendly and the staff treated us like regulars the second we began our reservation. They turned a normal night out into a celebration! Had lunch at Bartlett's today and we enjoyed it. We got the spinach and artichoke dip for an app, very good. My husband and I both got the French dip and it was delicious!! Service was good and the atmosphere was nice. Little far north for me but I'll be back for that sandwich! read more
