Was pleasantly surprised. I had heard a lot of Bartlett's, but was not sold. Came here to meet friends. Although they do not have a happy hour, there are appetizers and cocktails for noshing and sipping. Service was friendly and top notch. Our server came and checked in frequently. The restaurant itself is dimly lit and has both a bar area and dining area. We opted for the bar area since we were not fully dining. We did order steaks and a Caesar salad. All were delicious. My coworkers and I had dinner at Bartlett's, which is located in the West Anderson Plaza. The plaza is large and parking was not an issue. Nice spacious waiting area outside. Two separate multi-user men and women restrooms. The service was outstanding! We were promptly welcomed and seated by the hostess. Claire E. was our server and took great care in serving us. She was pleasant, friendly, and very accommodating! She recommended some of the specials for the evening. She had a great personality. Again, outstanding and the others helping were were great (5/5). Steak Tartare: 5 oz of hand chopped raw ribeye and strip steak, tossed with red onions and capers, dressed with lemon, egg yolk, and herbs. Served with toast points, fresh arugula, and spicy sambal on the side (5/5). This was chef's kiss outstanding. Wao! This is my new favorite restaurant in Austin. Not only the food was amazing but the service was out of this world as well. Is it a bit overprice, specially, for the sandwich? Yes, but honestly the quality justifies every penny. They are not kidding when they say that this is the best French dip in Austin and it is big one. The artichoke dip is to die for, I don't event normally like that kind of dip and I could not stop eating. The steak was on point, when you hear what they use to marinate it you wonder if it would go well together, but trust me, it does. Eaten here for nearly two decades and the meat cuts have gone to trash! Along with the ability to serve. Last time I came they brought me a medium well steak when I ordered red+ and this time they brought me a ny strip when I ordered the 100hr ribeye. Finally got my ribeye and it was complete trash! LEANER THAN LEAN! It was even hard to cut. Why on earth they are charging $60 For a non prone cut is beyond me. We won't be back for steaks anymore. read more

I've been here a few times over the years. My friends like to come here. It hasn't really been a place for me as a vegetarian, but that's changed! We came here for a birthday specifically for the 100 Hour Marinated ribeye for my friend. She had been talking about it for weeks. Unfortunately, the night we came to celebrate, it was not available. She was crushed. I jokingly said "we can go somewhere else". I'm guessing the server thought I was serious because later the chef came to our table and offered her a special treat. It was very nice of them. She ended up with the Redfish special and she liked it. But it was a huge disappointment anticipating this dinner for weeks. My dinner on the other hand exceeded expectations. I had not been here for many years. I don't recall the House-made veggie burger being on the menu previously. I tried it. It was excellent. Brown rice, mushrooms, beets, jack cheese, and other goodies. The avocado basil slather was perfection. It's not easy to find a really good veggie burger these days. So many places try to make them taste like meat. This was a true old school Veggie Burger - such a treat. Our server was attentive and was really great. Drinks were good. We used to come here back in the 90's when it was Houston's and I was in college. Had so many great memories here and were delighted to know that the place was still here! We came to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. Drove in from New Braunfels. We actually celebrated our engagement there in '97. Anyways, the place did not disappoint. Our server was Jordan who was most precious!! We started out with the Manhattan and an old fashioned. Split their traditional salad with buttermilk garlic dressing and their cheesy ciabatta. We shared their amazing 100 hour marinated ribeye cooked to medium rare perfection with mashed potatoes. Finished with the key lime pie. The restaurant is so warm and inviting. Bartlett's used to be Houston's, and from what I understand the franchisee bought the restaurant and renamed it after himself. Even now as it's been Bartlett's for many years, you can still feel some of that Houston's DNA in the atmosphere and menu. The vibe lands somewhere between upscale casual and classic steakhouse. It reminded me a bit of those old-school Steak and Ale-type places. It's a step above casual dining chains like Applebee's or TGI Fridays, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as Austin's highest-end spots like Uchi. It's more of a polished, comfortable place that still feels approachable. The dining room has a warm, almost wine-cellar feel, with exposed brick and fairly low lighting. When we visited on a weeknight it was packed, so I highty recommend making a reservation. The crowd seemed to be a mix of business dinners, client meetings, and people celebrating occasions. We were there for my mom's birthday, which felt like a perfect reason to go. It's the kind of place that works well for a special dinner, a date night, or entertaining clients. Everything we ordered was excellent. The Hickory Smoked Salmon appetizer was a great start, and the French Dip and the Chimichurri Steak Sandwich were worth getting again. I have been putting off reviewing this place because it was just such an incredible experience that I didn't know how to put it into words. I think I am ready. I have only been here for takeout during COVID and got the Famous French Dip Au Jus and ate it in my car and had a freak out moment as it was one of the best things I've ever tasted! We had a 4:30 reservation for my birthday (we were with a 6mo year old) and even at such a time, the place was packed! Little did we know how packed it would be as we were leaving! The host was exceptional at their job, checking us in and getting us to a very nice table and getting the baby a high chair (a very elegant one at that). Gabriel was our waiter and was super relaxed as he announced the specials for the night and got us our drinks. Poor guy would be running us about 6 iced teas each all evening but he didn't mind at all. In fact he went so above and beyond with the lemon and saccharine that it was insane. We ordered the following dishes (and no I'm sorry I didn't take any photos because I was 1) too in the moment and 2) was too overwhelmed with how delicious everything was): Asian Noodle Salad, Classic Cheeseburger, Famous French Dip Au Jus, Chimichurri Steak Sandwich, Apple Cobbler, & Key Lime Pie. However, we were seated promptly outside, which was our preference. Delightfully friendly server, Anthony (see photo) greeted us and was a definite add to the dining experience -- as he knew the menu well, made great recommendations, and was genuinely friendly and eager to please. Food at this restaurant was well prepared, very tasty, and portion size was satisfying. We started with the grilled artichokes which we had had before and they are fantastic, with a nice aïoli dip. My wife had a vegetable plate and a crab cake. She makes a great crab cake, but admitted that this crab cake may have been better than hers. All crab, no filling. Outstanding! I had a marinated ribeye and baked potato. Both were delicious. Both of us had enough food that we brought home leftovers which I enjoyed for lunch. Had a latte for dessert which was an exceptionally good cup of coffee, and the Key lime pie was memorable. A great meal. This is a restaurant we need to go to more often. read more

Went it last night for a date night with my partner. Had reservations and it did take a few minutes to get seated. You can watch the kitchen while waiting. Their allocated bourbon selection is top notch. Price-wise is expected. I wouldn't personally say it was cheap but it's better than some other higher-end places with great allocated bourbons to try. Expect to spend 40-60+ for an ounce on the very hard to get items. Food was kind of mediocre to me. It was fine, though nothing was knock you socks off for me. The marinated steak was suggested by a friend, but tasted like marinated korean bbq. I would opt for something a bit more classic if you were to come here, unless you adore marianted kbbq, very similar flavor. French dip was tasty. Having just gone to house of prime rib in San Francisco, I think my prime rib and au jus setting might be a bit broken so it wasn't amazing. Just tasty. My partner ordered his steak medium and his steak came out very rare, perhaps even on the blue side. As someone who loves rare steak, it looked to be a bit rarer even for me. That was surprising as I'd expect a place like this to have dialed it in. Perhaps marinated makes it super easy to burn? However, kitchen did promptly address this and the chef(?) came out himself to make sure it was done properly. What surprised me, at the end, was we had a portion of our meal comped because of the mistake. Overall, I think it was worth trying. If you love rare bourbon, a great place to go to to try some of the higher end stuff before paying secondary on an entire bottle. read more

The service was mediocre at best, no drink refills, empty water glasses. Desert was offered to the person with a birthday, but no one else. The server seemed to get an attitude because we complained. We live less than a mile from Barletts and have never been...and so glad we finally did! It's such a nice, fancy interior that you would never guess from the outside. Service is extremely prompt, helpful, and attentive. We had a reservation on a Saturday night and this would definitely be needed-it was packed! It had been awhile since I had been here and so glad to put it back on my rotation. This place is an Austin institution for solid American fare with great friendly service. The dining area is filled with mostly booths (some tables) and is dim with over table lightning - a throwback to an era where dining was cozy and warm. Food here is solid - with my go to being the prime rib (served au jus) with garlic whipped potatoes (which I forgo in favor of a loaded baked potato). The salads are a great starter. Literally, old club events happened less than half a mile south at the old Frisco and sadly Waterloo. In an attempt to find an upscale restaurant for our needs I made a reservation on a recent Saturday. Called the day before as we were trending a bit less. Thought I had it covered and nine car peeps showed up. You read that, 9 hungry diners eager to have a social. It doesn't seem like a big number but it was a breaking point for our reservation. Hey old Bart; I could have brought 30 and not known. So, this restaurant is NOT large party or group friendly. I get it; boils down to limited space. Observations: Patio would have been accommodating except there are not enough chairs for the long concrete table. You literally made a major player in the Austin real estate market stand so his GF could have a seat. Chivalry isn't dead in Austin. Food: I spent more than $50 on a 12 ounce Prime Rib when I would have gotten triple the meat at the Salt Lick in Driftwood for $5 more. Food across the experience was fine but when you factor we spent half the dining experience eyeing chairs to steal. Thankfully, the party at the other end of the long table presented us with chairs as they left. A generous act from other diners and not the restaurant. This is an excellent place with its dark candlelight lit like atmosphere, and incredibly skilled and professional staff that make you feel like you're at a classy country club in New York. It has been a minute since I have dined at Bartlett's...just a handful of times over the last few years. Many moons ago Houston's was in the location where Bartlett's currently resides. The restaurants are affectively the same...same décor, same amazing food and same phenomenal service. Bartlett's Restaurant is consistent in food quality and impeccable service. The restaurant gives off speak easy vibes with lots of wood throughout the restaurant. It somewhat dimly lit but not too dark that she cannot see your table partner. The kitchen is glass enclosed where you openly watch the chefs deftly grill steaks and other food items. There is a large rectangular bar in the restaurant. Surprisingly, at lunch the bar was filled. I had lunch at Bartlett's with a friend. We both ordered salmon with wilted spinach and red and yellow beets. We had the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer (one of their signature dishes), which was warm, delicious and accompanied with tortilla chips. The salmon was grilled with crispy edges and flavored to tantalize your palate. Our server, Scott, was extremely attentive. He took our order pretty quickly and our food and drinks were served shortly thereafter. His pleasant demeanor enhanced the dining experience. Big shout out to Scott... Bartlett's is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. It's a steakhouse with the typical dim lighting, traditional menu, and solid classic cocktails, wine and beer. I don't really think of a steakhouse as having a particularly special atmosphere, but Bartlett's feels like a neighborhood place, while also being good for an occasion. The "dress code" here is a range of casual to business casual to Austin date night (still casual but nicer). The clientele is mostly folks in their 40s and 50s. But it's not sleepy. If you want a spot at the bar, you'd best arrive between 5 - 5:30 or you'll definitely have to wait. You can walk in most nights for table seating, but after 6 or so, you should also prepare for a wait. Tonight, it was packed by 6, and folks were filling the waiting area. I typically order the spinach and artichoke dip followed by the cheeseburger or the filet, and you're missing out if you don't try the key lime pie. It seems wrong not to order beef here, but I've tried their salads, chicken specials, and more. Everything is very well prepared. I've never been disappointed by a meal here. The price point is in line with any good steakhouse, and the quality is well worth it. Many folks might pick Perry's...but for me, it's Bartlett's hands down. read more

Since I moved to Austin, we missed our go to spot back home which had an amazing prime rib dish. I wanted to try Bartlett's cause I heard they had a good ribeye and prime rib. To start off we ordered the spinach dip and a side Cesar salad. The main course we ordered the prime rib 12 oz with mash potatoes & bbq pork ribs. Everything came out in good timing. The waiter was super nice and made super she gave us a creamy horseradish and chimichurri sauce. I like the creamy horseradish sauce better than the normal one. We ordered the prime rib medium rare and it came out perfect!!! I couldn't be more happier with it. The pork ribs also came out great and it was cook to perfection. Vibe is always on point whether that be the low key candles as romantic, the fire pit on a cold evening, or game night at the bar (there is one TV that is old & color is bad which is a vibe in itself). For some odd reason I hope they never upgrade. In the winter you can dine outside by the warm cozy fire. Or after dinner, I like to sit out and watch the sunset to finish my drink. The service is outstanding & team oriented to ensure customers are satisfied and "attended" to. The personalities of those coming in is fun to observe. Including myself as I always have "watchers" given I am sports tuned in, eat extremely slow to fully enjoy each bite, hyper focused on food flavors, and a generally silent vocally person with a very loud energy who LOVES to dine alone. I have heard tables trying to figure me out. I do the same with them; it's fun! Sometimes I get invited to join them :-) To end your meal, you must have the Sundae. My only improvement feedback for Bartlett's to move the Sundae back to a regular on the menu. For some reason it was moved to every other month. I only go when the month they have the Sundae. Right now that is January, March, May, you get the every other month thing. You can't go wrong with a meal here and drinks on the patio after to extend your evening. Now, it isn't as good as the wagyu from Jeffery's, but for half the price it was a close contender. We also got the smoke salmon appetizer and it was fantastic.
