Version chops / star of the night!
Jenn C.

Service was was very helpful picking our tasty options. The views of the rolling hills are relaxing. Now food talk. We tried the crudo and aguachille to start. The crudo was fishy but the snapper aguachille was bursting with flavor. Both dishes were plated beautifully. My friends each tried the snapper entre and carne asada by my venison chop was the star of the night. I normally can't eat all of my meals (tiny tummy) but I had no problem devouring this dish. I wish I ordered another one to go and had that for dessert! Ha

Bulevar had been sitting on my Yelp saved list long enough. I had reservations in hand, appetites ready. Pro tip: budget extra time for parking at the Arboretum during dinner hours you can also opt for valet parking. It's perfectly located and a great spot for a group, business dinner, or family setting. From the first bite it was clear the hype is earned. The guacamole was a great opener, the crab tostadas is a "must have", and both the halibut and carne asada were delicious. Service was excellent and attentive all night the kind that makes a good meal feel great! And save room for the churros. Easily one of the best ways to end a meal in Austin right now. We'll be back.

Pros: Gorgeous decor Excellent service Wonderful food and cocktail options - crab tostadas were a favorite! Cons: Only one server for our large group Took a while to get our food even though it was a Monday evening Pro tip: Definitely worth a visit if you are in town. Lots of creativity in their dishes!

Stopped by Bulevar Mexican Kitchen for happy hour and really enjoyed the experience. They specialize in utilizing modern approaches combined with traditional Latin American flavors and practices. The atmosphere is fire lit with a high energy bar, tall ceilings and big glass windows. I think that this location has one of the sunset best views on the outdoor patio in all of ATX. I appreciate that they have happy hour every day of the week which makes for a great value dining option. Plenty of parking on site. We did not have a reservation so the patio was reserved so got to sit in the bar which is first come first serve seating. We started with the Hielo Mezcal with rey campero espadin blood orange, lime and agave. On Sundays they have a specialty cocktail and I tried the Mangonada Rita with mango and chamoy. From the happy hour menu, we tried the Tacos Del Dia with fish tacos and it the fish was perfectly cooked with sliced avocado and a flavorful sauce. Also tried Tacos Sucios with prime flank, rajas, queso asada, salsa fuego and crema. This particular taco was a bit spicy for my liking. Unfortunately I was sad to see that the Caesar salad was removed from the happy hour menu. The lettuce is fresh and crisp with a flavorful dressing and a crispy cheese garnish on top makes for a very flavorful salad. The Wood Roasted Bone Marrow with ayocote bean and queso gordita, cherry tomato salsa, salsa verde. I added tortillas to eat the bone marrow. Wasn't a huge fan of the Gordita but could have used some greens to balance out the flavors. Overall, a great place for happy hour with elevated Mexican dishes and thoughtful execution. I will continue to frequent this restaurant to explore more of the menu.

Crab guac

Came in for my birthday dinner with a friend, and this place definitely lived up to the praise that I'd been hearing. Probably a top gluten-free restaurant of the city, if not the top. The crab guac had ample crab, and the aguachile verde was absolutely beautiful looking. I'd say the duck tetela was likely the most flavorful dish of the meal, with the sweet potato coming through with such a delicious sweet warm pop of flavor. Lastly, the ribeye I had was amazing. I ordered the "smallest" one they had at 42oz, and it was still a marvel coming out. Massive amount of steak that I'll be eating for the next day. Perfectly cooked, deliciously fatty in a way only a ribeye can satisfy, and the smokiness from the post oak really made the flavor exceptional. Overall great experience that I'd happily recommend.

We visited to celebrate our anniversary after hearing so many great things about the food and views and quickly realized why it's so highly recommended! The smell of the wood fire hits you as soon as you walk up, setting the tone and really getting you excited for the entire experience you're about have. The space is beautiful, and the patio offers incredible views! Plus the patio has coverage and heaters, so no biggie if it rains! The hostess greeted us right away, and Mariah, our server, was attentive and truly thoughtful throughout the night with great recommendations and surprises. The food was outstanding! Honestly, probably some of THE BEST we've enjoyed in Austin! The happy hour machete was MASSIVE, perfectly crispy and cheesy with an addicting side crema that I saved to use in case I wanted to pair with other food items, it was that good. I'm typically not a huge mole person so I was hesitant on ordering anything with it, but heard they were known for their 800 day aged mole. I asked if it was possibly to try a small amount to see if that would be something we'd enjoy and she brought out a sample to try and WOW! They do a savory style mole and it is JAW DROPPING! Creamy, luscious and definitely worth ordering! This is coming from someone who is not a mole person, well at least the sweet kind of mole. Now I know theres a better one out there! While I couldn't get over how incredible the mole was, we were dying to try their carne asada and the venison chops that they had on the menu, especially since you don't see venison often. The carne asada was well cooked and flavorful and came with a super cheesy chile relleno. but the venison double chops completely stole the show--exceptional tenderness, flavor, and execution. Their margaritas were excellent, especially the fact that you could make them spicy with their house-made pepper mix, where you can really taste the fresh jalapeños. They surprised us with a champagne toast and anniversary sweets (Fresh feeling strawberry ice cream and shortbread buttery confetti type cookies) that made the night feel extra special. We did follow that with a chocolate cake, that didn't feel like it would put you in a sugar coma and had a cherry guajillo puree that gave it a little spiced kick. Absolutely worth the drive and already on our list to return--especially for brunch and one of their mole dishes! They are a must stop in Austin!

Bulevar is a hidden gem in the area, literally. If Yelp hadn't directed me to Bulevar I wouldn't have even thought to check this area. Moreover, the place is open later than the rest of the restaurants in the area; it's a low bar since most places close around 9 and I was looking mostly for a late night drink. The parking space is large and next to another restaurant and not much else so even when it was busy it was relatively easy to find a spot. I walked in and sat at the bar and looked at their cocktail menu. I usually like whiskey based cocktails but they had an Oaxacan Old Fashioned and figured why not? Now, I was afraid that Bulevar might have just been a fancied up version of Chili's but my drink was well made and the bartenders definitely knew what they're doing. I felt snack-y so I ended up getting the guac and chips, since it still was close to closing time and didn't want to annoy the kitchen. I wasn't expecting much but the guac and chips were fresh and tasty.

This restaurant has become one of my favorites. Everything I've tried is amazing ! My friends and I go out for ladies night once a month and we like to try out new restaurants. We've enjoyed the food at Bulevar so much that it has become one of our go-to. I've also brought my family member visiting to dine here. Warm and cozy ambience and the waitress is so knowledgeable about the dishes and so friendly . Ask for Lindsey the next time you go in ! Our favorite are - Duck Carnitas Tetala Sweet potato, onion, cilantro- herb dressing, salsa Manchu Crab Tostadas Jumbo lump crab, jalapno remoulade, avocado, radish Tacos Sucios - prime flank, rajas, queso asada, salsa fuego, crema Esquites Grilled corn, smoked chili, lime, queso fresco Halibut a la Planvha Wilted spinach, salsa veracruzana, roasted chili - garlic butter Arroz con Carne - banana leaf braised short rib, risotto, pickled mushrooms, mole bulevar Blueberry Tres Leches

Guava drink - A pink guava cocktail with a salted rim and a fruit slice garnish, served in a short glass on a black napkin.

Service was friendly and ambiance felt like you were in Mexico. We had a quick drink here before an event and my guava drink was so delicious. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu.

Hill country views - A landscape view from a balcony shows a blue sky with scattered clouds and a green treetop canopy, with distant buildings and an American flag.

This was a really elegant and romantic spot for a date, though unfortunately, no romance was actually experienced. The entrance gave me upscale resort vibes. We sat outside with a lovely hill country view. It was really hot, and thankfully they had fans blowing. I wish they had ice in the water though because the water became warm within minutes. For appetizers, the duck carnitas tetela was a standout. It was very unique to me. It has duck, flatbread, and sweet potato. So good. The taco del fuego was very tasty too, and it came with three small tacos. The snapper aguachile had a tangy taste with an orange slice inside. It was good, but probably too refined for my taste buds. For my drink, I got the fresas sonrojadas cocktail with vodka instead of tequila, and it was sweet and refreshing. For the main course, I got the halibut a la plancha. This was honestly not as good as I had hoped. It was on a giant bed of leaves, and the leaves did not really compliment the fish well. The fish itself was quite plain-tasting with some very spicy sauce, but it didn't really bring out the flavours of the fish. I normally like halibut, but this one was just okay. The server was friendly, but every interaction with her felt really awkward. Overall, this is a very nice restaurant with very high prices. Worth the splurge for special occasions.

Chips and Guacamole

I made a reservation as we were just staying in the area, knowing nothing about this place. What an incredible experience! The service is outstanding! The atmosphere is incredible! I love open kitchens and their covered outdoor patio was a great choice. Our server (Charity) was absolutely fantastic, friendly, and attentive. The whole staff was friendly and welcoming. We came for Sunday brunch but wound up ordering off the dinner menu, family style. We ordered the chips and guacamole and shishitos to start and then ordered the tacos and empanadas. Hands down, some of the best food I've had. The short rib empanadas had to be one of the best things I've ever eaten. The flavors from the masa and filling came together in a way that's hard to describe. I will come all the way back here just for the empanadas! I will go out of my way to come here again. What a way to start my week in Austin! ¡Gracias, Bulevar, por esta experiencia tan increíble!

Carne Asada (always)!

My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. They also had managers or supervisors going around checking on everyone which is nice. Now the food, It was good as usual but I had ordered my smash burger with mayo, cheese, and bacon. I am a simple person, I was a few bites in when I hit chopped onion. As we had been there awhile and were ready to go so when the server came back around I asked for the burger to just be removed as we wanted to go. They either didn't hear me or didn't listen as they took it to get it corrected. So I tried to talk to a manager to explain we just wanted it removed, not remade as we really needed to go. He said he would take care of it, then nothing for a bit and a new burger was brought out. So I just took it, ate a few bites and got the check. The server was very nice and even took pride in getting us a new burger but I felt that no one listened to me at all and it soured a lot of the visit. They did have a 3 course Valentine's day menu. Drinks are expensive and served in what feels like miniature target brand, low-quality glasses, which makes the value proposition hard to justify the steep $14 price. The atmosphere is where it really falls apart. The space is set up like a bright, casual brunch hall rather than a cocktail bar--harsh, bright lighting, uncomfortable wooden chairs, and basic wooden square tables that don't align with the concept AT ALL. There's no food offering, yet the environment feels designed for daytime dining rather than an evening bar experience. From a design and hospitality standpoint, it's difficult to understand how this made it to opening in its current state. Even a VERY basic understanding of lighting and ambiance would suggest this setup is fundamentally mismatched--ESPECIALLY for something like a date night. As for the salmon, it wasn't overly seasoned and was incredibly flaky. It was a good size as well. For breakfast, The Breakfast Plate's eggs were cooked perfectly with appropriately cooked bacon. I enjoyed the potatoes that accompanied it as well. The Buttermilk Pancakes meal was a failure though. The pancakes were gooey inside. My server, Amy, offered to have them remade, but I declined the offer. So I accepted a parfait, which was easily one of the best I've had in Austin. Had we had another waitress, this place would have been a 10 out of 10. On to the drinks: Round one: espresso martinis (made with Tito's). Slightly sweet, bold, smooth, and very sippable.
