I came here for lunch on a weekend and the place is super cute, it has a nice patio with a pool and indoors with a large bar. That day they had a live band and they were good, unfortunately the service was delayed and even though my waiter was kind, I had to flag him a few times to ask for service. The food was good, I had the tuna tostada, a Carajillo and some Baja tacos
Beautiful ambiance. Guac and queso were good but nothing special. The margarita pitchers were disappointingly tiny. I did enjoy their horchata cocktail though. Service was slow and we weren't checked on often. The carne asada fajitas were very flavorful but not a huge portion. Meat was tender. Definitely expensive for what you're getting though
The place is nice to go and have a cocktail and a few bites to eat. Both the inside and outside have ample seating and the outside you get to experience the Austin skyline. The service is very hit or miss. Some of the staff is friendly while some others have the act that that they do not want to be there. The good came out pretty quick but had to track someone down a few times for water. The passion fruit margarita was delicious and perfect for a humid afternoon. The chicken al pastor pizza perfect to share, make sure to order more chimichurri sauce to go with the pizza. The polenta duck was a surprise and filled with flavor. Overall an inconsistent experience, depending on which waiter you get. The hostess was very sweet and kind.
I have to compliment Mateo for excellent service and conversation. Aside from incredible food, Mateo recommended the Strawberry Lemonade and it was delicious! We keep coming back to this restaurant because we can't get enough.
This Mexican themed bar and grill in the Thompson Hotel (Tommie) in Downtown Austin is a great escape from the hustle of the city. It's up on the 4th floor next to the roof deck (which means you can place an order to take outside and lounge under a giant umbrella or sneak into the pool (you can reach your arm over the gate). The fish taco and carne asada are both excellent and they have a fantastic drink menu (which is expensive though). Service is mediocre depending on who you get. I've had amazing experience and other times just felt really neglected or ignored...but in general they're good. I really want to go back and try the $150 Mezcal Omakase Japanese experience one day when I get afford it. It's 6 courses with drinks. Let me know if you've tried it.
This attractive rooftop cantina feels sophisticated but vacation-casual, indoor and outdoor, Mexico meets Miami, and I assume the vibe level goes up as it gets later. But the five stars is for the guacamole. The Chicken Pibil Quesadilla "Pizza" (chihuahua, cotija, oaxaca, smoked tomatoes, jalapeño, chimichurri, crema, epazote) was good, but the guacamole was stellar, and we are picky. It could have been the pomegranate or the pickled jalapeño or the red onion (all listed on the menu), but I really think they juiced a whole lime. It is like "try to replicate at home" good. It is like "best thing we ate in Texas this trip besides maybe those two slices of butter cake" good.
The food was good can't really go wrong with Mexican food. I ordered a Diet Coke and it was flat so there's that. The ambiance was beautiful especially outside and the bathrooms were clean.
Swanky in ATX Awesome vibe and ambience, weather wasn't warm enough to sit outside end enjoy but would definitely like to come back when it's warmer to get that experience. Food was good but not extraordinary. I really wanted to like the mushroom taco but the corn tortillas disintegrated. The mushroom itself didn't seem to have any marinade or spices on it. Atleast I could not distinguish any flavor. The mushroom itself was large , not chopped up and bit chewy and meaty. So in addition to soggy tortilla when I bit into taco the mushroom slid out along with toppings. I ended up ditching tortillas and eating mushroom + filling with my knife and fork. Cocktails were delicious as were chips and guacamole. I think I would definitely come back for drinks and apps but given I don't live in Austin that may be a while away. I found it odd that we had reservations but still waited nearly 15 minutes to be seated.
Dinner here was excellent! Our server was great with keeping up with our 12 person group. I ordered the short rib taquitos and the meat was tender on the inside while the taquito itself held its crunch. Looks like a salad but I promise there's tortilla and meat underneath! Mezcal margarita was smoky and very tasty. We got it in classic but I'd want to try it in mango or passion fruit if I'm back here in the future. Not pictured are all the other apps our group ordered. I'm torn between the ahi tuna ceviche being my fave or the crispy rock shrimp - soooo good!
My family had dinner here this past weekend. The setting is really nice. Mexican themed but upscale and trendy. The service was very good. The food was generally good but not great. We had: Quesadilla Pizza (4/5) - Wasn't sure quite what to expect. The portion size of this dish is HUGE. It didn't taste like a qusadill nor a pizza. More like a very hearty dish served on top of a flatbread. Pretty good though. Guacamole (4/5) - Generally a good version of a guac. Pretty tangy and I really liked the flavor/texture of the added pomegrantes on top. Prawn Fajita (4/5) - The server did tell us when we ordered that although it says prawns, expect more normal sized shrimp. Appreciated that heads-up and she was absolutely right (so why call it this on the menu)? Well flavored and cooked. The side of rice and beans did not add much to this dish (not good versions of these). My wife had the duck carnitas - duck cooked like carnitas served on top of a bed of polenta. She said it was okay. Generally and pretty good meal that we enjoyed.
We came here for a bachelorette lunch and although they made a mistake and wasn't ready for us, the manager made sure we were taken care of right away. Was able to sit two tables next to each other. Service was great! Our drinks were always filled and ordered. I got the shrimp salad and it was really good. Shrimp perfectly cooked. Overall experience was great!
Our waitress was so sweet and the queso was delicious but they were playing Olivia dean remixes and the ceviche was not very good. Margs were also decent
Such a cute spot! I came here with a girlfriend to hang out and have a light bite, and we were so surprised by how good the fajitas were. Beyond the food, the overall aesthetic of the restaurant is just beautiful. The service was very nice as well and gave great recommendations on food. After we finished eating, we moved out to the outdoor cabanas with our drinks to chat and take some photos. It's the perfect place for a girl's night out. I'd love to come back and try the pizza next time!
Came here for lunch on a weekday. So the place was very quiet. Only a few other tables were occupied. Arriba Abajo as you walked in just gave me all the vibes of a happening place when you want to hang out with friends and have a great time. We ordered the braised ribs rolled tacos for appetizers. It was so fresh and kicking' with all kinds of flavors. I wish I had ordered another one. The avocado sauce layered on the bottom was just enough to keep wanting more. For lunch I ordered the Carneasada Fajitas with chimichurri and my husband ordered the Carneasada Taqueria. With my fajitas came a side of frijoles, green rice & flour tortillas. Corn flour was the other option. Both meals came in pipin' hot & the smell coming from both was very aromatic, zesty & spice. Amazing taste, flavors, just the right amount of marinade on the Carneasada with a hint of lime. It was so delicious while enjoying the ambiance. Our server was a delight and took very good care of us. We didn't order any of their alcoholic beverages since we were both working, but definitely we will be back to enjoy more food and try out their beverages. read more

Not my favorite, unfortunately. Anytime i brought this spot up as an option, it got shot down by friends but I wanted to give it an honest try! Service was strange with very rare eye contact and focuses on tablets (host stand and at the table), and we ended up finding a hair in our food. Food/drink that was okay: -prickly pear margarita -ahi tuna -Rock shrimp Food/drink I'd pass on: -mezcal margarita -queso with chorizo.. it tasted almost powdered? -chicken pibil quesadilla, this was filling but so confusing as a food option.. it's dry. it'd be safe for picky eaters as it doesn't taste like much read more

I decided to give this place another chance after the renovations and it still was just okay. The place is pretty, the staff were attentive, the noise level was a medium but the food just wasn't what I had hoped. The battered fried shrimp were mainly all battered. The portions are smaller but the price weren't matching. The drinks were good! More on the fruity end juice taste like :) read more

Amazing outside atmosphere with greenery and great music playing on speakers. Sat at the outdoor bar and food came out fast and hot. Bartender was very nice and attentive to our drink needs! read more
It's awesome!! Margs delicious, beers cold, food outstanding!!! Started w "taste of salsa" and it's spectacular- really just house made chips (fresh and crisp) and delicious salsas. Pulled carnitas fajitas for main course - they are wonderful. Fast at the bar, friendly fast service. I appreciated the NHL and MLB playoff games on - TVs nice when by yourself, but sound not on so if you were having dinner the atmosphere is fab. Wonderful night. read more

first thoughts "this place is a vibeeee" and boy was I right. We hadn't made reservations for this Friday night @ 6 pm but luckily it wasn't a big issue, now we didn't get a sit down service table but were able to sit at any of the tables or bar tops where we could go up for the bar to order food/drinks. & that was perfect & really all we needed. We settled for the outdoor bar since we had 2 other people joining us. We came at the perfect time as the restaurant started filling up 45 min after and would have been impossible to find a seat. Chips and salsa were delicious though only one salsa really was good the rest were subpar. The chips however were fantastic (not enough though and we had to order more). Now for the mezcal margs we ordered... they know how to make a mezcal marg probably one of, if not the best I've had. However I will note the bartenders that night weren't the friendliest, each time I went to order I waited patiently and often they met me with direct eye contact and just moved on to someone else and even just stood behind the bar. As a first time customer I was confused as I thought "maybe I was supposed to order somewhere else?" No- that's exactly where I was supposed to go so it was a tad uncomfortable and though I don't expect the bartenders to be conversationalist I do expect a warm and welcoming tone and unfortunately that just wasn't the case. Now, though the service wasn't the best the vibes, drinks, and company we had made it a great time! I'd love to come again with a reservation next time and hopefully change my opinion on the service they provide. read more
Ambiance: 5/5: Restaurant is located on the 4th floor I believe. Has a cute patio area next to the pool. Indoors is pretty spacious and has a great vibe. Service: 4/5: No complaints about the service. Our waitress checked in on us, and was nice. Food: 2/5: $8 For chips and salsa is a bit overpriced. Especially when there are several other restaurants that have those for free or for cheaper. We also ordered tacos, and while they good taste, eating them was a bit messy. The tortillas immediately got soggy and ripped so we had to eat everything with a fork. Drinks: 3/5: Ive been here a couple of times for their drinks. Unfortunately, this time the frozen drinks machine was broken so we couldn't order our usual drinks. Will probably come back for drinks. read more

This place is a solid 4! What makes it so great is the ambience, the outdoor space is just fantastic! Plus our service was outstanding. I was there with girlfriends celebrating a birthday and this place could not be more perfect. The food was really good. My fav dish of the night was the duck carnitas. The meat was so tender. And of course we enjoyed the margaritas. The location is in the heart of downtown. I highly recommend checking it out! read more
Such a vibe! My first time at Arriba Abajo did not disappoint - the atmosphere, food, and service were all 10/10! Especially our waiter, Statin, who was incredibly kind, friendly, and attentive. This was such a stunning, lively restaurant with a gorgeous outdoor patio immersed in the downtown skyline. Food was delicious and the drink menu had plenty of yummy cocktails and flavors to choose from. Whether a date night or cute brunch with the girls, this is a must visit! Adding to the top of my favorites list and can't wait to go back read more

The service was amazing. Our server explained the menu thoroughly and was very attentive. The ambiance during the day was calm and upbeat. The food was so good. The chips with queso was a little greasy but if you can get past that it's delicious. The tacos were great! It's rare to find well cooked fajita out here. I will 100% be back read more

We had a long day and were really hungry, Yelp brought us here! The patio seems to be a good touch on beautiful days or nights, huge, spaced out from other tables to still enjoy private dinners and beautiful decorations. The inside is nicely accented with decorations as well! Even though the place is pretty big we understood that of course they wouldn't seat where they didn't have staff to cover, I'm not sure what happened between communication but it seemed the host was a little annoyed we were there. He had a slight arrogance or attitude when communicating. We ignored and continued to enjoy our evening, after being seated our server was great! She gave awesome recommendations, provided honest feedback and even made sure to keep our drinks coming. We had so much good food at the table I don't think I can remember what was ordered but I do know the quesadilla was a hit! My fajitas were ok, I think im used to spice and savory so I wasn't a fan of their sweet salsas. The rice and bean is a must! Oh and they had some salad with beets that that was really good! read more

I found this place online and we were really excited to try it out. Overall, the food was good! I had the Lobster Quesadilla Pizza and absolutely loved it, super fresh and delicious. We also enjoyed the guacamole, chilaquiles, milanesa de pollo torta, ceviche, and the tuna crudo. Unfortunately, my friend ordered the Steak & Egg Fajitas, but the steak was burned (we actually asked medium cooked) and she couldn't eat it. We also didn't really enjoy the drinks (abajo blast and arriba carajillo), except for the Passion Fruit Tini, which was actually amazing. The place itself is beautiful and the terrace is good but Service was just okay. read more

I absolutely love coming to Arriba Abajo. My girlfriend and I come here often and have tried almost everything on the menu at this point, and we've never been disappointed. Some of our favorite dishes are the duck and the salmon -- both are amazing and full of flavor. The drinks are also incredible. Our favorite is the Arriba carajillo... wished more ppl ordered this since they don't make much of it , which has a horchata flavor and is honestly one of the best drinks we've ever had. The atmosphere makes it even better. Sitting outside on the rooftop patio with the view and great music makes the whole experience perfect. This is definitely one of our favorite spots to relax, eat good food, and enjoy a great night out. Highly recommend. read more

Nice little rooftop spot in Austin. The drinks were good and the food was decent. The guac was good. Tacos were ok but can probably do better in Austin. But hey, you come here for the vibe and view. I saw a table get the Fajitas and they looked really good. read more
We went at around 1PM on a Saturday! There is no parking attached to the building we parked across the street (Paid Street Parking) There is indoor and outdoor seating. We sat in The patio area that also has a pool and a bar. We ordered the Queso, Wagyu Barbacoa Taquitos, Carnitas Tacos, and the Horchata French Toast it was all delicious! The Service was great and the ambiance was so calm. Such a great experience I will be visiting again! :) read more

I absolutely loved my experience at Arriba Abajo. As soon as you enter, you can hear the music and feel the vibes. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor section filled with couches and tables. There's even a pool if you want to go for a swim and obtain a day pass. There's great ambience. For food, I'd recommend the Lobster Quesadilla Pizza, Carne Asada Fajitas and Chile Crusted Prawns. For drinks, I'd recommend the Margarita and Island Heat. I'll definitely be back here again! read more
My husband and I stopped at a restaurant located in the hotel we were staying at in Austin called Tommie Austin. For an appetizer, we ordered shrimp ceviche, which came with chicharrón. I had never tasted anything like it--it was so good that I didn't want to share with my husband! The service was excellent; our waitress, Jordan, was the best! She was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided us with great recommendations. We enjoyed mango mimosas with our meal. For our main course, we ordered a chicken torta with fries, and it was delicious! The next day, we ordered food by the pool, and we tried their version of bang bang shrimp. It was so good that we ended up ordering it every day. The decor of the restaurant was beautiful and gave off jungle vibes. You don't have to be a hotel guest to dine there. Whenever I'm in Austin again, we will definitely return! read more

My friend and I came to the Thompson Hotel for a Don't Tell Comedy show. Since the doors didn't open yet, we decided to grab a drink at Arriba Abajo while we waited. It happened to be prom night, so the staff let us know there weren't any available tables, but bar seating and open spots were first come, first served. We were fine with that and ordered mocktails at the bar. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. The bartender even gave my friend a heads-up not to lean on the counter because of sticky residue, which was thoughtful and appreciated. The drinks were great and the vibe was relaxed. It wasn't too loud so it's a nice spot for a casual date or a night out with friends. The space itself is also really cute. We used valet at the Thompson, which I believe was $16 for the first 1 to 3 hours. After that, it's a flat $30. Not $16 plus $30, just $30 total. It worked out for us since we were able to split the cost and didn't feel like dealing with parking. read more
