I always love finding new Vietnamese restaurants in Austin. Being from Little Saigon, it's hard to go back to California every time I crave really good Việt food. We were heading to Alamo Drafthouse for an afternoon movie and decided to stop in and try this place. The restaurant is in an old house, which gives it a nice French-colonial feel. Fair warning, though: the inside is super loud. It's an open room with tile floors, so sound just bounces off the walls. Fine if you're with a group and want energy. On a date, you'll be raising your voice just to be heard--and the whole room will hear you too. Now the food. The spring rolls are the highlight. They're more refined than the plain ones you get at most traditional Vietnamese spots. We had the BBQ pork spring roll and it was excellent--really delightful. I ordered the Bún Bò Huế and rated it on three things: soup, toppings, and noodles. Soup -- The broth is tangy and spicy. Best version I've had in Austin. Solid 5 stars. Toppings -- Pork belly and a poached egg. The poached egg is unusual for Bún Bò Huế, but it worked. The pork belly was nicely fatty the way it should be. The meat itself didn't have a lot of flavor on its own--the broth kind of took over. Not sure if that's a knock or a compliment. There was a generous amount of meat, which meat lovers will appreciate. 3 stars. Noodles -- This is the weak point. The worst thing you can do to noodles for someone who eats with chopsticks is cut them. I get that short noodles are easier for people who don't use chopsticks, but this is Bún Bò Huế. Texture was fine; I just couldn't get past the short pieces. 1 star. Overall: 3.5 stars for the Bún Bò Huế. If they hadn't cut the noodles, this would easily be 4.5. I'll definitely come back for more spring rolls and to try other dishes--everything else looked good. read more

Came again and the service was wonderful. Our waitress was lovely and totally on top of it. We brought our toddler and had a great experience. He loves the grilled chicken and sticky rice and lemonade! The ginger marinated tofu spring rolls are one of my favorite things ever. So good, so fresh--and the peanut sauce!!! And it's just so relieving that they are great about allergies (I am celiac and dairy free). Takeout is always great too. Well packed and fresh. The chicken pho is delicious. I love Elizabeth St Cafe! I always recommend it to people because it's a solid spot. I love a spring roll but I'm not a big shrimp person, so I find it hard to find ones with chicken, pork or beef. Every spring roll I've ordered at Elizabeth st has been so good but I think the spicy chicken crunch & bbq pork are my favorites. I love mixing all of the sauces. I crave them all the time. Additionally their Banh Mi's also come in a ton of protein options. The bread is fresh, and the sandwich is light and tasty. The staff is great, the last time I was in my server Cayman was very nice. We went here for brunch recently and I am very much in love. It's literally perfect! Their flank steak rice paper rolls are so good. The portion was HUGE and the pork bahn mi was perfect. We loved the drink selection and tried a couple of their cocktails. All so good! We sat at the bar without a reservation and had great service. I'm obsessed with this place. Can't believe anyone would give it less than 5 stars. First off the spot is very charming and they have a cozy little inside area and a lovely shaded patio that was even great in the sun. If anyone complains about parking, that's bs, all businesses on S 1st suffer from lack of parking so miss me with that. To the food - holy heck I don't think I've ever had bread on a bahn mi as good as theirs. Like it's so elite that it makes the visit worth it just for that. And as I'll always recommend, add a fried egg to your bahn mi. That said, the spring rolls and fried rice are killer, you can't really go wrong with anything, and everyone who works there is so dang friendly. The food comes pretty fast and I've already been several times and find myself craving more. I don't know why reviews for this place aren't better because I had an amazing experience! from the outdoor seating (feels like Europe?) to the service to the food everything was amazing. I got a mocktail that honestly tasted like a cocktail with a nice bitter touch and our group got fresh and fried spring rolls, salad, and then a few bahn mi's and I got a rice noodle salad bowl with pork which was incredible. WOW!! This place was PERFECT!! I was a bit hesitant at first with the bakery-Vietnamese fusion but guys: this place is AWESOME!! The Singapore noodles were to die for and the chicken vermicelli bowl was generous and delicious! My little brother loved the nutella banana hazelnut crepe and we all enjoyed the summer rolls (shrimp and pork was our favorites)! We came at around 1 PM, and they were slammed with customers ( now I see why) and was a 20 minute wait time. As visitors to Austin, we took this opportunity to walk around the business area and it was lovely! If it's nice, make sure to sit outside because it's lovely!! Although it was busy, we were seated quickly. The stools we were placed at were uncomfortable and wobbly. Food came out quickly and tasted fine. It's pretty overpriced compared to going to the actual authentic Vietnamese restaurants in the area with larger portions and more flavor. During the day, it's really lively and at night it's very quaint and sweet, perfect for a date 2) food is 1 star. The spring rolls were mostly rice, the pork was extremely chewy and overcooked. The salad that I got was also very underwhelming, although the dressings were really good. Probably due to location, but I would say this place is overpriced / overrated. Brunch has some great options but again hit or messed with the protein, being overcooked or the portions being really small. 3) I would rate the service 1 star. We waited at least 15 minutes for water. And the server walked by at least three times without seeing if I needed anything. Drinksdelicious Vietnamese coffee and a coconut chai latte (a must have) Food#50 the Elizabeth fried rice w fried red fish was one of the most delicious plates I've had in Austin. The drunken beef noodles (#53) was recommended by our amazing server Gabby and was a fan favorite for the table! The pho (#32a) delicious and the Singapore noodles (#57) was tasty as well. These plates were HUGE! Can be served family style and shared with a group if you can't decide on what to get. This charming place had an amazing fusion of Vietnamese and French cuisines! It's pretty packed on the weekend, so arrive early if you can. I got the Red Curry Dan Dan Noodles with spice brined chicken and baby bok choy. The spicy, creamy broth was rich and clung to the noodles well. The addition of raw Thai basil, sprouts, and carrots made it super refreshing. I loved the fried garlic on top to give it extra crunch and flavor. So delicious, still thinking about it now! It came in a huge bowl that's shareable for 2. On the brunch menu, it is under the Specialties section. We were seated outside, which worked out well as the weather was great and it was loud inside. The outdoor patio had vibrant, colorful furniture and decor. The servers were very friendly and checked on us often.
