This chaotically busy little cafe served up some really good flavors on a Friday evening! There is some open seating at long tables and at the bar along with tables throughout the restaurant. Here's the best compliment I can give my beloved Bouldin Creek Cafe: I have visited many times with different omnivore friends, and they are always delighted with the their meals. Myself as a vegan, I can't get enough of their bolognese (why did I take so long to try it? Because it's usually served on Fridays only). I've tried to replicate their tofu scramble without success. The vegan queso with the soy chorizo is DELICIOUS. The Royal veggie burger is SO GOOD. My only dislike is how they season their pinto beans- they always taste like cinnamon to me, which is so odd. I am so grateful for Bouldin Creek, I gladly drive from far north Austin to enjoy it. It's one of the remaining Keep Austin Weird, non-private equity, distinctively Austin places for us to support. We had a nice time gathering with family friends at Bouldin Creek for dinner this past weekend. They don't take reservations so you have to hope you'll get seated in time. We had a large group of 10 people and one of the people put our name on the list when they arrived and were told it would be about 30 min...and hour or so later we were finally seated. The large group before us took extra time to finish and leave the table even after a few gentle nudges from the wait staff. The food was great and our waiter offered us a free guacamole for the long wait time hassle which was nice as we were pretty hungry by the time we sat down! They also offered to take our drink orders while we were waiting so they would be ready when we got seated, which was thoughtful. I came back to BCC not too long ago because I had wanted to try their blueberry lavender pie. I ordered one of their chai teas and a slice while waiting - this was around 5ish PM? The person who took my order told me he was on the way out but signed out my order to someone and he made my drink real fast. I waited about 20 mins or so after that, had finished my drink, and finally got someone's attention at the bar (where I was) to ask about the status of my order. Unfortunately it seems the sign out had slipped through the cracks and they didn't know I was waiting. They very quickly got the order ready (like in 4-5 mins) and they gave me a refund for what I had paid because I'd waited so long (which I appreciated, I hadn't asked for it but they just told me they were going to do it). Overall I thought that was a really kind way to rectify a mistake! I only gave 4 stars because I actually found the crust of the pie to be a little too dry for my liking, but the flavor of the filling was pretty good! Didn't detect much lavender specifically but it did seem like something else was there. My BFF and I went to Bouldin Creek for a catch up lunch. It's been years since I've been there, it usually has a waitlist, but as she is vegetarian it was the perfect decision. The food is always spot on. This is an all vegetarian restaurant but with that being said, their menu is so creative. I was craving greens so I had the Lady Bird Salad chock full of greens, pecans, avocados, cranberries and "chickn" (chickpea salad). It was very tasty and hit the spot! My girlfriend had the Ruby Reuben sandwich which she found very tasty. For drinks, we had some kombucha. Service here is always fast and friendly. If you go during peak times, be prepared for a wait, but it usually goes fast. Also note that there is not a lot of parking. I have been to this restaurant before but I never reviewed it until now. However, knowing that I already had a good experience in the past didn't sway my review of this place. My wife and I came in from SXSW and got some food from this restaurant, and I realized at some point that I have not stepped foot back in this restaurant for almost a decade. But it wasn't on purpose I promise! I ordered the Ube Latte, which wasn't too sweet and just right, and the fajitas, which consisted of mushrooms, onions and zucchini.
