BUY IN STORE -- Not online I truly hate writing this review because Rebel Cheese's products are excellent but the fulfillment and customer experience were a mess from start to finish. I ordered a holiday cheese box on December 3 as a Christmas gift. My card was charged immediately. The order never shipped, and I received no communication until I followed up myself, multiple times. After the holidays, I learned (only because I kept pushing) that my order had been internally canceled due to a system glitch, with no email, no refund, and no outreach. I was repeatedly told it would ship on specific dates that came and went. A replacement order was finally sent in January. It arrived late, wet, with melted and ruptured ice packs, and the cheese was very soft to the point my friends weren't sure it was safe to eat. The box also lacked the gift note that was supposed to be included. What bothers me most is that my card would have stayed charged indefinitely if I hadn't chased this down myself. That's not okay especially for perishable food. It's a real shame, because the product itself is great. But based on this experience, I can't recommend ordering gifts or anything time-sensitive unless the fulfillment and communication processes dramatically improve. read more

I have heard and read wonderful reviews about their products.That doesn't matter much if they don't ship your order on time. I was hosting several vegan family and friends for Thanksgiving, and planned to serve their cheeses as an appetizer for all 15 guests. I followed their shipping date cut off and ordered well before the cut off. I ordered 11 days before Thanksgiving. On the Monday before I still had not received any communication about my order and their website said it was being processed. I tried to call and got a message that they were too busy to answer the phone and to send an email instead. I sent the email and the reply was We are very busy but doing everything we can to fulfill orders. They promised to overnight any orders not shipped on Monday. On the day before Thanksgiving I found out they did not ship my order and essentially asked that I understand because they are so busy. They offered to ship my order later and they would throw something in for free for my inconvenience. This was a standard poorly written customer communication. I replied and explained how after their reassurances they had left me without my order or sufficient time to find a suitable replacement. This time a got a genuine reply from Luis, but same offer full refund, or some free item. It nice for them that they are so busy that they can't fulfill customer orders on time. Ordered for the first time from Rebel Cheese about a month ago after having them on my radar for a long time. Being a mail order customer isn't for the faint of wallet because it makes sense to order at least six cheeses at a time, and that's not a small amount of money. Trying to factor in the timing is also part of the experience. Some of their cheeses can be frozen, and some are recommended to not be, like the brie. They recommend consuming the cheeses within 7 days of opening. It's just my husband and me in the household, so finishing a whole package of cheese in a week's time could be daunting. Speaking of the brie, it wasn't my favorite of the selection I received, which was a curated collection of Lorie's from Shark Tank. When we first got the delivery Dear Hubby and I set up a charcuterie tray for ourselves as a late lunch / early dinner. So many wonderful tastes! It was a delightful experience to mix the cheeses with crackers, salamis, Mediterranean olives, and fruit / jam. The sweet chevre offering was divine. Might have been my favorite. We opened four of the cheeses to sample them and left two for later. It's been wonderful for me to have better vegan cheeses than what the local grocery stores tend to stock. Real flavor! Real creaminess! With the holidays approaching, I'm considering when to place another order to carry me through the time when having special cheese would add to the edible side of the season. read more

An update full of nostalgia and sadness. This location is closed now, but this seems like a great place to review their online shop too. Up until it's final day Rebel Cheese has been excellent in food, atmosphere, and service. The space was always clean and there were plenty of foodstuffs to peruse in their store. On more than one occasion I got myself a bit of snacky vegan deliciousness to go. It wasn't all cheese, there were sauces, spreads, and sugary treats too. Every single cashier has been kind and friendly. The food always came out fresh and hot. Online ordering is easy and my products arrived right on time. No complaints! This is a great place to at least try to make the switch to vegan cheese. There are plenty of options and everything is flavorful. read more

Probably a 5/5 experience for people who can't eat dairy, but for those who can eat dairy, it's more a novelty / interesting experience than anything else. We left craving "real" cheese. The presentation is great. We had a cheese and charcuterie board that was beautifully presented. They could not have been nicer, letting 4 of try basically every cheese there. When they accidentally gave us the wrong board, they let us keep it and brought out a whole new board. As regular cheese eaters, we probably would have been better off trying the cheese in a sandwich rather than on its own on a board, as it was just a lot of cheese and eating it on its own drew attention to how much it was not "real" cheese. read more

I would love if we had something similar in Atlanta. This is seriously the BEST vegan cheese I've eaten. I really couldn't believe my eyes. The cheese looked so delicious in the chilled case, and everything I tasted was amazing. The service was fantastic! Cale was very helpful and recommended the happy hour special since I wanted something light and it was my first visit. I enjoyed a pinot with smoked cheddar, so yummy and I know why this is a best seller. It's smoky, bold, and good on its own. The balsamic fig and walnut fromage were my second cheese. It was soft, smooth, spreadable, and had a delicious flavor. My board also had pate, pickled veggies, jam, crackers, and crostini. It was the perfect charcuterie board, and I enjoyed each item. In addition to cheese, you can find sandwiches, salads, dessert, wine, and vegan items for a picnic. There is metered street parking, and you shouldn't have any problem finding a spot close to the cheese shop. You'll find tables in and outside. You can place a pickup order through their website. Nothing else I have ever tried or made (and I've attempted to recreate a traditional southern pimento cheese spread A LOT over the past decade) has ever compared. It's spicy, it's slightly sweet, it's flavorful, and it's a dream on an everything bagel (or off a spoon). I reorder it every time. + Buffalo Blue Cheese Dip: I eat an entire container of this every other week. It's made spicy with Frank's Red Hot, but it has globs of blue cheese throughout to cool things down, and honestly it tastes like being a kid again. I mix it with cooked lentils then top it with diced tomatoes, cucumber, and avocado and cut up vegan chicken nuggets, then use tortilla chips to dip it all. I reorder it every time. + Bacon Scallion Spread: I spread it on cherry tomatoes, and it tastes like a BLT. It's moreish, and so savory, so thick, so salty. I reorder it every time. Also... salt bagel. That's the way to go here. (Side note for Rebel Cheese themselves: ***PLEASE FILL YOUR CONTAINERS***. I love you, but the dips are never as full as they could be. My partner loves it, I'm a meh. +/- Brie: I know this is their award-winning, life-changing, business-altering cheese, but... I think it's just okay. "Cave-aged for at least two weeks.... this one-of-a-kind, plant-based cheese is creamy with a mild center and a bit of dunk from the healthy, bloomy, rind..." COLD with cranberry chutney is so good. But I found myself less drawn to it as it became room temp. I wonder if, unlike their competitors brie, this one would actually bake well in phyllo? - Tomato Herb Fromage: "this unique fromage features a Mediterranean herb coating and a delightful surprise - a sundried tomato center", it absolutely tastes like pizza. Best used directly with your favorite pasta, or paired with castelvetrano olives. The basil and oregano on the outside is a bit overwhelming, so expect an hours-long aftertaste. - Truffle Chevre: "blended with truffle powder for a hearty presence of umami flavor." I think 1) the flavor was way too overpowering, and 2) Treeline Cheese has the better vegan goat cheese options (which are also much more regularly available too). It's such a tiny detail, but I LOVE how the website lists the uses (eg, is it meltable or spreadable) and shelf life on each cheese! Okay let me start off my saying I LOVE cheese, and I am currently non-vegan. The flavors of their "cheeses" are insanely good. I bought a log of truffle chevre ($10 for 4 oz) and I am obsessed. They let you sample almost every cheese there, and all the ones I tried are wonderfully flavored. The cheeses are cashew based so they are a lot creamier than your "normal" cheese, and melt in your mouth. Yes, it's double-triple the price of your usual mass produced cheese but so worth it. So creative too! They have a cheese counter for ordering cheese, then lots of seats and a menu if you want to have a cheese board or sit down for a nice meal. A-mazing. Who knew vegan cheese could be so GOOD. I love being vegan but usually dislike vegan cheese, so I was super surprised at how good everything was here. I sampled several cheeses and my favorites were the hatch chili cheddar, sharp cheddar, and truffle brie. The tomato herb fromage and everything fromage were really tasty but had a mildly sweet aftertaste which I wasn't the biggest fan of, however they had fantastic texture and would be absolutely delicious to people who like a little sweetness in their food. I tried their sandwich special which was called "Save a Chicken, Ride a Pimento" which was a fried plant based chick'n patty, jalapeños, topped with creamy pimento, Mellody's hot honey and a bun. If you like spice, this is the sandwich for you. It was so tasty, perfectly cooked chick'n patty, loved the crispy texture in contrast with the soft bun. I also got the side of pesto pasta salad which delicious. For dessert I tried the carrot cake which is from Celeste's and it was really tasty, moist and soft, although a little sweeter than I typically like (subjective). However it was still one of the best carrot cakes I have had, and I've had a LOT, vegan and non-vegan. read more

This is a gem in the Mueller district. We tried the *vegan* cheese in sandwiches and noted a familiar cheese-taste with a slightly different, softer, cheese-texture. Their pesto was especially phenomenal! Everything was tasty and we were pleasantly surprised. The lavender lemonade was sweet, so would maybe get it half or quarter sweet next time. Staff were friendly. Indoor was clean. Their vegan cheese is extensive and available for purchase; we can't wait to go back and try more! They *do* offer a military discount. I first learned about Rebel Cheese through a TV series we watched on plant-based eating, and then came across the brand again on social media. I've been dabbling in going more plant-based, primarily for animal welfare reasons, but for health reasons as well. My partner and I decided to order a variety of Rebel cheeses and give them a try. We ordered the following: -Brie -Truffled brie -Everything fromage -Smoked cheddar -Hatch chili cheddar OMG. These cheeses give the real thing a serious run for its money! The flavors and texture are on point. Very importantly, unlike some other vegan foods, they don't use a bunch of questionable chemicals. They use real ingredients including organic cashews, fava bean protein, assorted spices, and coconut oil (no nasty seed oils!). We will be ordering again, once we get through our sizeable stash. Used Rebel Cheese's mail order service. Well packaged and arrived quickly. Here's what I ordered and how I'd rank the items: Honey Pistachio Chevre: 10/10 one of the best cheeses I've ever had. Absolutely amazing blend of flavors. Love the added crunch from the pistachios. The cheese is so soft and delicious. Pimento Cheese Dip: 9/10 delicious. Great flavor. Only complaint is that it is a very small amount for the price. Ash Chevre: 9/10 very fun visually appealing. Very soft and creamy just like the Honey Pistachio but with a flavor of its own. Bacon Scallion Spread: 9/10 delicious but small like the other dip. Cave Aged Brie: 7/10 I heard from many people including the sharks on Shark Tank that this was their favorite. Located on a corner location in the Mueller shopping area with many other eateries and attractions, but it's a bit to the side. This place sells vegan cheeses - many their own - as well as amazing sounding deli sandwiches made from vegan cheese and meats. It's small but very friendly and a favorite, considering the other people there. I was terribly intrigued and stopped by during our trip to Austin. I'm not vegan but I'm vegetarian. I have forayed into vegan dairy substitutes and... I do like my regular cheese - but I must say... if all vegan cheeses were like the ones I tried here, then they'd get a better reputation. Before I continue, I must include that we also abstain from alliums (onions, garlic, leeks, chives, shallots). A large number of cheeses here contain alliums and all the fake meat does as well... so my eyes gravitated towards the cheese platters. My youngest is allergic to all nuts as well as wheat. The cheeses are all cashew based. So... the rest of my family were in the car while I went inside to treat my luck. Sadly, a number of the marinated/pickled items on the cheese platter also contain alliums. Luckily, they have a smaller platter as an option, so I got that. You get crackers, jam (I believe mine was strawberry habanero), and 2 2-oz cheeses. I actually ordered it first before I started exploring the store. It generally stocked what you could find at your cheese shop - antipasto, wine, crackers... and that amazing cheese spread. That's when someone came out and I got to try what I could have. I pretty much loved everything and because of my restrictions, I got to choose 2 for the platter... and I added on one more for kicks. So first off: the cheese isn't identical to the animal milk versions but they are very, VERY good renditions. The rind on the Brie? Perfection. Flavors are great! I ate half of it the day of and finished everything a few days later. There is a slight... aftertaste that lingers. Not unpleasant but something to note that hints at its plant based status. Great experience! Definitely recommend for vegans and non vegans alike. I wish I could eat more, but I guess it's good news for my wallet. Stopped by Rebel Cheese while in Austin. The shop is really cute. It sits on the corner. They have outside seating. They also have seating inside. They have an array of different snacks, beverages and sweet on display. They have numerous cheeses to choose from. You can sample as many as you would like. The servers were super sweet and helpful with great recommendations for us. I end up purchasing the strawberry basil 9.6/10, balsamic fig 8.9/10, and dill Havarti cheeses 9.2/10. The texture is amazing, the taste is mind blowing, and I miss nothing about regular cheese thanks to Rebel Cheese and no animals were harmed in the process. Since I was traveling a few hours to get back home, they made sure to put the cheese on ice. I also purchased cheeses that were freezable all of them are not. I served a couple of them a few weeks later when I had family in town, they all enjoyed the cheese and none of them realized that it was plant-based until I shared the information. I also had the barbecue sandwich with a side of potato salad and a drink. The portion size was extremely large, I'd really enjoyed the meat. I do wish the bread was a bit softer. Potato salad was OK. It was a mayonnaise, based potato salad. The drink was delicious. Overall, I would give the meal a 7.2 out of 10. read more

Customer service. Ordered $130 worth of cheese on 12/11. Expected delivery once showed 12/16. This was great since I didn't expect it until 12/21 (10 day shipping). On 12/20, I'm the order status had t changed and it still hasn't shipped on 12/22! I've tried contacting customer service several times. They were supposed to escalate it to someone else but they never provided a contact name or email address of that someone else. I keep trying to inquire with no response. THE BLACK AND WHITE: So glad this is here as I am lactose intolerant and generally either have to risk it all or have a lactaid pill on hand when ingesting anything dairy related. Cheese selection are based off of real cheeses but have none of the lactose or animal traces. My favorite are the truffle brie and the everything cheese (aka everything bagel seasoning). It doesn't mimic exactly the texture of real cheese but it is pretty darn close! There's also other things to grab in store if you're looking for a nice wine down night or food. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, damage done for 2 cheeses was around $12. Definitely want to come back to try some of their foods. read more

When something is a royal rip-off, there's no excuse that's acceptable. I haven't been in this place for a few years. It was always pricey, from its opening day, but now....... Get Outta Town!! I was jonesing for two slices of Swiss Cheese, to make a sandwich. I make great vegan Swiss cheese, but it takes a while, and I wasn't up for making it, today. So....I stopped at Rebel. It was noisy in there, with music playing, cement and glass all around, and no baffles to smooth things out. I was the only person there. I looked in the cheese case, no Swiss. I asked the person behind the counter about that, and she told me something, but I couldn't catch much, with the noise. She went to the order window, told the cook what I wanted, and he gave her two slices of Swiss. She wrapped them, and brought them to the checkout counter. When she turned the screen to me, with the price, I almost fell out, no lie! $11.22, for two slices of cheese! What the .....??!! I told her that wasn't happening, and left. There are suckers in this world, sure. I'm usually not one of them, though, and I certainly wasn't, in this case Want to get ripped off, for what you get? Writing a review here because whenever I try to review via the "How was everything" email from Rebel Cheese for my orders, it gives me a 404 error, and there's no where to review directly on the website. I've had the November 2024 cheeses and it wanted me to review the December, and there's nowhere else to review. Review below. I have been eating many vegan options since the early 2000s because I'm lactose intolerant and was full vegan for 5 years. I prefer to eat whole foods as vegan cheeses and meats usually wreak havoc on my digestive system from all the starches. That being said, here's a review for specific cheeses. Bacon Scallion Spread **** - nice flavor, digested well, good with crackers - not really standout, nice salty spread. neutral, nice snacking Thanksgiving Special Cheese ***** - I don't like cheeseballs generally. I loved this one. - Flavorful in ways that worked together and with varied textures from being rolled in nuts - great with bread or crackers Balsamic Fig and Walnut Fromage **** - Big hit at Christmas, not my favorite, but favorite of everyone (non-vegan, very much wine and cheese white people) at the party Brie and Truffle Brie ***** - best vegan cheeses I've ever had, nice funky rind, creamy inside Smoked Cheddar ***** - Miso forward, but that's a flavor I grew up with, somehow snacked on this one and finished it in two days - crumbly strange texture, but not too off-putting Turkey *** - Wanted to give the meat a chance since I liked the cheeses, and it was one of the better vegan meats from a western maker, but still not to my taste or good for my digestive system Tuscan Salami (n/a) - gave it as a gift and person didn't tell me how it was. Best cheese I've ever tasted! Cannot believe it's all vegan. They've figured out gourmet quality, taste and veganism perfectly! We take everyone we can convince to this place. They have the best brunch as well - biscuits and gravy and breakfast sandwiches are to die for. I also love their lavender lemonade - so fresh and delicious. My vegetarian friend invited me to lunch. She said they have a really good sandwich. We ordered the Vegan Turkey Sandwich. I don't really like garlic so I requested an avocado spread instead of the garlic aioli. It was buy one get one! For some unknown reason it took over 35 minutes for our order. There was only one other group in the restaurant when we arrived. It did not seem busy. The sandwich was served on toasted sourdough with ample amounts of vegan turkey, tomato, avocado and lettuce. I want to get a couple of disclaimers out of the way first. I am somewhat hard-core keto/carnivore type of guy and along with bacon and rib eye I love cheese. All kinds soft, hard and exotic. That said I think these plant based cheese are amazingly tasty. The Everything Fromage I could gourge myself on. No seriously,  I could just open up the wrapper on start munching, forget the knife and spreading on a cracker. The brie has a little bit of a nutty taste but still creamy and delicious. We just opened the smoked chedder and again amazing.  By the way, they are great with a nice cab or red blend or Zin. Still have truffle brie and something chilie chedder to try but I'm sure they will be awesome.  So as a keto kind of guy these do have a few net carbs but not many where as milk based cheese have zero. I know they have vegan meats also but I'm not quite ready for that. Also, no worries on keeping it cold during shipment. It was packed in a box incased in another insulated box with 3 huge frozen gel ice packs. It arrived very chilled. read more

The cheeses are nothing short of excellent! This is my go to spot for a cheese board when I'm having peeps over. I recently surprised my in-laws in Arkansas w their cheeses and as non-vegans, they were very impressed! Any variety of their Brie is a dream and they routinely have a new cheese to sample. Sadly, I have noticed the service decline in the last couple of years. On at least 3 occasions my orders were lost or at least 30 minutes behind. This was after I called ahead due to increasing wait times when ordering in person. The staff has always been kind, but I think something is amiss operationally. Make sure you add in extra time for an order, especially on the weekends. read more

I haven't been to Rebel Cheese in several years. Brought my family here and my bf that doesn't really like vegan food-he loved it!!! We came in the mid-afternoon so there weren't that many people in the restaurant. Wait was pretty long for the food, that's my only complaint. It took about 30ish minutes to bring our sandwiches out but it makes sense because we ordered 5 sandwiches for our party. The quality was amazing and I would definitely come back. Love this place. It's a good drive for me but def worth. Natalie was amazing today helping me choose the right cheese for my event this weekend. She was so knowledgeable and patient with me trying so many and having so many questions. We decided on the right cheese for my avocado goat like bruschetta, and then a few more because I just needed them in my life lol. Stayed for lunch and had the tater salad and BbQ Brisket sammich. Several excellent options / I tried the pesto caprese on gluten-free bread this time. Friends tried the melts with different toppings. Even non-vegan friends acknowledged how delicious the food was. They are busy and orders take time to come out - ours took about 30 minutes for 3 sandwiches. They do have a wonderful selection of beverages to enjoy in the meantime. I don't understand their "sides" because they're so tiny and I'd rather pay $2 less to skip the insignificant addition. read more

I was visiting Austin and remembered this place was here so I stopped in. The staff was great and gave me great recommendations for vegan cheese and also let me sample some! The place is cute, they have a nice display of cheese and other goodies. They also serve sandwiches and small bites...I'll have to come back for that! read more

I was watching shark tank when a vegan cheese company came to pitch. I was thrilled when I heard they were based in Austin, TX and even more intrigued when all of the sharks raved about the cheese. Ever since, I have really been wanting to try it! I finally ordered some for a picnic during Blues on the Green and it did not disappoint! Although I can tell it is vegan (though I'm not sure if I would have realized - for some of the cheeses anyways - had I not known), it tastes really great in itself, irrespective of being vegan or not. I think the truffle chèvre and the Brie were my favorite. The crostini was toasted really well (there is also a different type of cracker underneath the crostini pictured) and the Bacon, Brie, and Me had a great chewy texture and flavor. There's a little bit of nuttiness to everything but it's not overpowering. I would probably skip the pepperoni and sharp cheddar - I can see what they were trying to accomplish but it didn't quite hit the mark as a replica (very obviously vegan). I thought everything was packaged very well although I think the fruit portions were a little sad. I also loved the jam and spread included with the board. A must for any vegan, and fun to try for everyone else. read more
