TORTA BIRRIA cheese wrapped SPECIAL QUESABIRRIAS WITH CONSOME FLAUTA BIRRIAS Strawberry filled churros
    Samantha J.

Our experience of Birria Cabrera was at their Slaughter location inside the gas station parking lot. Now, don't let that fact deter you from visiting this UNDERRATED food truck. Even though they are situated in the parking lot, they do their best to ensure you can sit and enjoy your meal by having picnic tables out and even music to set the mood! We first saw them after examining their menu when we walked by when they were closed, but after checking them out on IG and reading some of their unique items knew we had to go back! We are glad to say they are TOTALLY WORTH IT! Our food came out hot and was so fresh and beautiful looking with cucumber slices and lime wedges! We had their NEW Birria flautas, cheese wrapped Birria torta, and the quesa birria tacos, along with some MASSIVE strawberry filled churros. We were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the consommé! The flavor, viscosity and chunks of meat within in it you could literally just do shots of it on its own, which we did... The crunch that remained on the tacos and the flautas was incredible, even when you dipped them into the consommé! The cinnamon seasoning (this is an assumption) that they put into their Birria shines through and adds a depth of flavor! While everything was absolutely fabulous, the torta might have taken the cake. We thought a cheese wrap might be messy to eat and a little excessive, but where do you see that? We can vouch it is TOTALLY worth it and NOT excessive NOR messy! The outer layer of cheese gave some little crunches of cheese and enhanced the cheese flavor. It wasn't greasy either! The torta itself was so fluffy and massive and generously filled with Birria. Dipping it into the also flavorful consommé was just heaven on earth inside your mouth. The churros were such a wonderful way to round out our meal and I loved the amount of cinnamon sugar they added to it, while also being a little denser and crisp on the outside so you could dip it in the milk sauce. Overall Birria Cabrera is a hidden gem and a MUST VISIT! Thank you for the passion and love you infuse into your foods!

Absolutely delicious!!! The food was super fresh and tasted awesome. The pizza was super cheese so different from the tacos, the medium was perfect size and the broth was amazing

I tried the birria ramen. The birria and consume were good, but it is not paired well with ramen. The birria was tender however had a lot of pieces with excess fat we had to pick through. The ramen noodles lacked quality and tasted similar to just a ramen packet, I was expecting better quality noodles. Also tried the churros loved the sauce to dip in. Parking is difficult as it is on a gas station parking lot. There is also minimal seating present, one picnic table. There is ability to order in advance which helps with finding somewhere to wait.

Birrieria Lopez Cabrera #1 may at first glance look like a humble food truck, but this trailer makes the best birria in Austin. I'll tell you why. We ordered three quesabirria tacos with consumé and the birria torta with consumé. Each taco and the torta were packed with meat and bursting with flavor. Our order also came with a good amount of limes and cucumber. The consumé was thick and meaty and came in a nice large cup. The corn tortillas are made from scratch and were perfectly crunchy, and the bread on the torta was soft and the inside and soaked up flavor from the birria. Every item was perfectly cheesy, especially the torta, which we ordered with a cheese wrap over the top. I think you can also tell a lot about a restaurant from their salsas. Birrieria Lopez Cabrera's red and green salsas both had great flavor. The red was definitely on the spicier side, but my favorite was their green salsa, which was very creamy and flavorful but not super spicy. Each meal was about $15, and the portions were good for the price. The torta is perfect for when you are feeling HUNGRY because it is massive. The service was really friendly and I was able to quickly place our order over the phone. Please note if you visit, when we ordered our meals this food truck was cash only.

The best taco places are always food trucks by gas stations haha, but for sure definitely some of the best birria tacos I've had in Austin. 5/5 food - We got the quesobirria tacos with consume, they were so crispy with good portion sizes!! 5/5 service - quick and yummy!

I was a little reluctant to come to the food truck considering location and all, but I wouldn't want it to stray the next customer. I got one taco to start and knew from the first bite I'd be getting the plate. The tacos are filled with meat and taste amazing!!! It's fresh, full of flavor and not salty or oily like other birria tacos I've tried. The conzume was really good as well, especially with lime. The staff are friendly, open to conversation and it meant more knowing it was family owned. Though there was no seating, there are plenty of trash cans and the kitchen looked very hygienic! I felt no shame chowing down in my car considering this Texas heat and humidity I recommend this to anyone willing to try something new, you won't be disappointed only surprised.

I'm a recent convert to Birria Tacos, so when I spotted this food truck, I pulled over. I had just finished lunch, so I ordered one to go. The service was fast and friendly, and my taco was neatly packaged for the trip. There's a nice covered seating area for those who are eating there. The menu has plenty of options, from my single taco to full meal specials, burritos, Fortas, pambazos, and sopes. My taco was excellent when I reheated it many hours later. Can't wait to try one fresh!

Sope with birra, (requested no cheese, no sour cream and no lettuce)

Looking to stick close to home tonight but still wanted to try something new. We have had quite a few new taco trucks pop up close by so decided to try this one tonight and it was AWESOME!!!!! We tried the queso-birria tacos, chicken fajita tacos, and a Sope with birria. The birria was delicious and I didn't get a single one of thise bites where it's just a clump of fat. They Sope was piled high with meat. It was a very big Sope so it was a little thin in the middle, meaning I had to eat it first to make sure it didn't get too soggy and fall apart, but it was delicious. The chicken fajita tacos were a good size, very flavorful, and the tortillas were obviously home made, which unfortunately can sometimes be difficult to find in this city. I don't mix dairy and red meat so we got the queso-birria tacos sin queso, but they were still amazing. The consommé is soooo good, and they get the tortillas nice and crispy so they hold up nicely to dipping them into the consommé. The food was awesome and the prices were pretty reasonable as compared to other places. I also really like that they use a buzzer system so you can go back and sit in your vehicle while you wait on the order to be prepared. We really loved it and will definitely be back

The three quesobirra lunch special with consume.

The three quesobirra lunch special with consume was amazing. The homemade corn tortilla were dipped and then stuffed with meat and cheese and fried quesadilla style. Dipped into a deep, rich birra consume, they were devine. If you are looking for a non-sugary drink, bring your own water.

    Huarache Azteca and Birria Chilaquiles

Food so good I had to leave a review! In my opinion this food truck is better than most Mexican restaurants downtown, chilaquiles are spicy and Smokey, huarache steak tender and full of flavor 10 out of 10 all day.

This is my new fave food truck in Austin! We were looking for good birrieria tacos and they had an amazing menu with birrieria torras as well! I got one with a cheese-wrap and the portion was huge! The meat was so tasty and comforting, I could only finish half and took the rest home. The service was friendly, the cashier spoke both English and Spanish and they had nice tables for you to enjoy the weather and eat. Loved the overall vibe

The SPECIAL3 QUESABIRRIAS WITH CONSOME was delicious. I ordered an extra taco and really only needed 3.

Velvet Taco is pure counter-service: you walk right up, order at the register, and then grab a seat. There's plenty of seating, so even with a couple of kids in tow it was no problem finding a spot. The place leans hard into what can only be called white-people tacos--soft, sad flour tortillas that taste like they came straight out of a grocery-store package, loaded with every wild creation the kitchen can invent. Global mashups, brunch hybrids, burger impostors, the works. No one is pretending these are the real deal. I went for the chicken-and-waffles taco, which was actually built on a thin, real waffle instead of a tortilla. Surprisingly good--crispy, a little sweet, chicken holding its own. The burger taco tasted exactly like a cheeseburger that had wandered into a tortilla and decided to stay. We also tried the shrimp taco (fine), one daughter got the kids' chicken taco (perfectly kid-level), and the other ordered the chicken tikka (spicy, saucy, and very much in the "why is this on a tortilla?" category). Everything was okay. Comparable to Torchy's in that same creative-American-taco lane. If you're looking for a true Mexican taco, stay far away. But if you just want to play around with some decent flavors on a cheap flour store-bought tortilla while sitting in the middle of downtown Austin, this is your spot. Not my favorite. Glad I tried it. Won't be back.

I ordered 4 tacos: the migas, migas poblano, shrimp macha (!!), and the Dona Reyna tacos. All of these specific tacos were priced between $6 and $6.75 per taco, not bad in Austin, and not bad considering the quality of said tacos. As you can see from my order, I opted on the more "novel" choices and they did not disappoint; that said, I do HIGHLY recommend the two variations of the migas taco and the shrimp macha taco. Oh, the shrimp macha was so FIRE, the flavors were bold and smoky with a kiss of heat. The migas tacos were FULLY LOADED, and the scramble with the tortilla chips were flavorul.
