Truly unique and the menu is as interesting as it was delicious. The migas and the chiccarone offering caught my attention. It might be good idea to order ahead. Staff was nice, Google Maps takes me a little offs ways but its at the corner of the gas station. Chilaquiles Taco: soft corn chips, egg, a la mex, queso fresco was a fun taco, you can add meat to if if you want. I recommend this one! I also got a bacon and a chorizo egg and cheese taco and the bacon was crispy, chorizo was not too greasy. Its all well balanced. Not a must come back for me since I personally want something a little greasyer but with its name, Con Madre, its a great place! All the tacos were fresh and came out hot! This was bad. Like, really bad. Got a breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, bacon, potatoes. Eggs: dry Cheese: hardly any Bacon: soft, hardly could taste it Potatoes: old and stale (they're just old fries LOL) OH. And it was $17 SEVENTEEN DOLLARS. Shame! I've passed this place for years. With Curra's no longer being the breakfast spot it used to be, I finally gave it a go. I was really looking forward to it as I've had it recommended to me several times and the reviews are pretty great. Sadly, it was just OK. I ordered the chilaquiles and got a plate full of scrambled eggs (kind of bland) with only a few tortilla strips. Barely enough to call it migas, much less chilaquiles. There was no discernible sauce in there as is customary with chilaquiles - although it may have been soaked up by the scrambled eggs. It really was a lot of eggs - I can't understate that. Plain, scrambled eggs (I typically get ONE over easy on chilaquiles - this was easily at least 4 plain, slightly overcooked, scrambled eggs). My wife got a couple of breakfast tacos and they were fine. As good as several less expensive/less hyped places, not nearly as good as, say, Veracruz. Maybe I got the wrong order. Maybe it was an off day. I'm in no rush to get back. Too many good, sure-fire options on the south side to go out on a limb again. When I came I tried a few different items such as: - Pastor Tacos (3.5/5), Barbacoa Tacos (4/5), and Bistek Tacos (3.5/5). The barbacoa was my favorite because it was the most tender, rich, and flavorful of the three. What's also nice overall about these tacos is that they cost $2.89 each when you get them on corn. - Madre's Sautéed Shrimp Taco (4/5) & Madre's Chori-Queso Taco (4.25/5): in addition to traditional street style tacos, they have these two unique ones with one featuring grilled shrimp and the other featuring chorizo and melted cheese. These come on flour tortilla and cost $4.75 each. - Cheeseburger: wouldn't normally get a burger from a Mexican restaurant, but this was good as it had a bigger emphasis on the grilled onion. ($5.50) - 3.5/5 - Homemade Picadillo Nachos: they load the nachos up with beef, cheese, avocado, and jalapeños and this is not a bad appetizer to get if you're craving some nachos. ($13) - 3.25/5 - Madre's Frito Pie: their take on frito pie, but using Hispanic ingredients. ($8) - 3.25/5 - Agua Frescas: they have a great selection where you can get Horchata (sweet cinnamon & rice milk), Jamaica (sweet hibiscus punch), tamarindo (sweet & tangy tamarind juice) -, and limonada. You honestly can't go wrong with any of these! They all taste great. ($3.50/ea) - 4.25/5 With lots of food to choose from my suggestions would definitely be getting a barbacoa taco, a sautéed shrimp taco, and a chori-queso taco with any of the drinks! What a great find!!..Found this joint in route to The Hill of Life for a hike and it was just what we needed...Super friendly service and ample seating...Large menu with plenty to choose from...we both picked Chorizo, egg and Cheese and Bacon, egg and cheese..2 of each..at first we thought they were a bit pricey...but these are some fat tacos...piping hot...perfectly charred tortillas and some kickin good sauce...wife couldn't finish hers..so I sacrificed my beach bod and scarfed the last couple bite down...Lunch menu looks killer!!...Awesome visit!! read more

Now THIS is breakfast tacos. During our girls trip we were on a quest to find the best tacos and confirm that Austin was truly known for breakfast tacos. Con Madre Kitchen affirmed it to us. Holy moly (or should I say holy mole?) - it's been maybe two months since we've been there and we still talk about these tacos. Had we known about it sooner, we probably would've woken up and come here every day for breakfast lunch and dinner. First off, cheers to customization! I can't have physical onions, scallions, or cilantro (sad), but I was able to pick items that would best fit my tacos given this condition. Even for the chicharrones specialty taco, I easily avoided the items I'm allergic too and heavy loaded on that red madre sauce. It was all so good I went back up to the truck to order two more tacos on top of the two I already ordered. They are ADDICTING but in the most wonderful way. Particularly loved my personal make your own of potato, egg, and ham. The ham was charred JUST right and made me want more. Another combo was beans, eggs, and chorizo. My mouth is watering all over again wow And if the tacos weren't enough, the drinks were on point too. Horchata and coffee? My friends called it absolutely perfect. For me I like fruity / juice like drinks so I had to go with the Jamaica which had the perfect taste to wash down these tacos. Go here. Maybe I just got the wrong thing, but I was definitely let down by their bistec nachos, despite the great reviews on here. First of all, the chips were burnt - probably fried too long. The bistec was bland and sparse. It came with lettuce on top, which by the time I sat down to eat them, the lettuce had gone soggy. Which was suuuuuper unappetizing. Everything was pretty sparse, which was a let down, too, since they charged for extras and more toppings. I don't know if I would give this place a second change or not. I used to be a regular (at least twice a week) back since 2014 when their breakfast burritos used to cost $6 but once the cost got over $10 I stopped going. Amazing food (don't skip their hot sauce) and staff but my low rating is more to protest the current rates. $10 would've been the limit for me to pay for breakfast burritos but $15 is overkill. I would rather dine in at a nice restaurant at that point. I understand it cost more now to run the business but the pricing is still insane. Con Madre Kitchen (Feb.25, 2023) This was an unintended destination. It was selected because the airbnb host suggested it, and I was buying her a meal and went with where she wanted to. The place was suggested the previous day as a good breakfast place. The first piece of advice is to avoid going to the place close to closing time in the evening. The place was definitely underlit, and walking around stairs in dim light poses challenges. While the taste of the food was decent, the meat hung around throughout the day was pretty dry and chewy. (I definitely would avoid the Chicharron that time of the night.) The 2 sauces that accompanied the meal were interesting. I still have not decided if I like them or otherwise. Pricing was on the high end despite it being a food truck environment. This rating was for an evening (7-8 p.m.) dining experience and will not likely reflect the full potential of the food. Delicious food truck with breakfast tacos and burritos! Con Madre is great spot to pick up food near South Congress. They have a few picnic tables outside to sit at, but parking isn't great (sometimes the gas station's parking lot is full and so is the street parking). Order ahead is convenient, especially on a weekend morning when they are a bit crowded and there can be a wait. We've had a few times where an order is wrong (usually we're given flour tortillas instead of corn, which doesn't work as I am allergic to gluten) but they are quick to fix it. I went to Con Madre for a Friday lunch. While I would like to try the tacos at some point, the enchiladas were calling my name. I ordered at the food truck and waited at the covered picnic tables for my order to be called. It was ready in about ten minutes. The enchiladas were delicious. I loved the fried pork skin toppings on the top. I should've asked for salsa or red sauce with them. That would've been icing on the cake. This place has a strong following and really quality food. Food truck close to my job, I've driven by here for two years and i don't know how I've never stopped but this morning I was happy I did. I just did two basic tacos one w bean, cheese, egg and one taco with potato, eggs and cheese. The green sauce they included had a kick to it which is always appreciated as I like the spicier side of things. I will definitely keep them on my radar as their menu has lots of options to choose from. Docked a star simply for location and ease of navigating to it and getting back out into traffic but not enough to detour me from trying them again. When I first started buying tacos from here it was great I could get three tacos with three ingredients for around $12-$13 but now that the prices have gone up, it's 3.50 per Taco with only two ingredient, that means: if I just got 3 egg and potato tacos for breakfast, that's $12 plus tax and that's pretty crazy to me because egg and potato tacos or egg and anything tacos should not be $3.50 each. That's just too much money for one taco, and there's other things on the menu that are way worse than that, like the avocado toast, how on earth can avocado toast be $12? it doesn't make any sense Seems like the lady who owns this truck got greedy and now jacked up on prices.
