Super Burrito

TL;DR: I would come again if I was already in the area, but I would recommend other spots to friends visiting. I had the San Diego burrito ($12.98) and really enjoyed it! My food came out super fresh and hot. It was definitely filling, but I was hoping for more for the price (especially as past Yelp photos seemed to show lower prices). The fries inside the burrito felt a big soggy, but I thought the carne asada was good. Flavor-wise, I relied pretty heavily on the salsa verde. This food truck is located in a really convenient location: it's walking distance from Trader Joe's, APL, and is overall pretty central. I think I would come again if I was already in the area and craving something quick. Street parking was pretty much impossible to find, but my friend and I just parked at the public library and walked a couple of blocks. There is some tables for some outdoor eating, with a wall blocking outside noise. read more

Man... I really don't like leaving bad reviews and never do. But holy smokes. My roommate told me not to eat here because the food was bad. But being curious I still went. I told the guy making my food I heard bad things and I wanted to try for myself. I ordered a steak burrito and it tasted like ingredients that had been left out and cooked on a grill that hasn't been cleaned in 15 years. The salsa included couldn't even hide the poor quality and taste... ended up throwing half a burrito away! Never done that before lol.... read more

GLASS FOUND IN BURRITO!! I found a shard of GLASS in my burrito! I am absolutely appalled and very fortunate I didn't cut my mouth or tongue. My company placed a group order for lunch. Not only did they shortsighted our order, members of our team were left unfed and dissatisfied. It's shocking how little they seem to care about food safety or customer satisfaction. C'mon Austin!! Another total miss... We just welcomed the arrival of a new baby into the family and Grandma here ordered food for four through Uber Eats. Another rather spendy mistake!! $100 for three really LOUSY burritos, three street tacos (the one order for the 2yr old was WRONG and completely inedible) and two churros. Churros were the best part... the rest was overly spicy, each and every one a congealed mess!! I had the burrito w/enchillada filling and added ground beef. We love hot spice in our house BUT it was overbearing here. Couldn't detect any enchiladas in my burrito, mostly rice w/a shmere of ground beef and a few shreds of cheese. SMH. TRUST the naysayers, head over to Tacodeli and AVOID this place. (Sadly Cabo Bob's was closed on Sunday, 'cuz that's what we REALLY wanted.) read more

I genuinely love this place. I live around the neighbor hood and I come by for Taco Tuesdays. In fact, I want to go today. It's your local taco joint and I usually order the tejana and the breakfast tacos. It's great for something on the go as you're working. I know the workers, they know me, and I feel like we are family in this circulating economy. I enjoy the tacos and some are overstuffed and pretty crazy however I can't complain for the price, the efficiency, and wholesomeness. It deserves 5 stars. read more

This one was a Lunchdrop meal which might have impacted the food since it likely didn't travel well. Ordered three "tacos" on flour tortillas since I'm generally not a burrito fan (yeah - it's lunchdrop so my choices were limited). Let's just say the "taco" option is probably an afterthought to rope a dope those of us who don't like burritos. The end result was basically three mini burritos (I mean "tacos") for me (carne asada, sea monster and Street w/ carne asada. The delivery rendered the breading for the Sea Monster (shrimp taco with cabbage) pretty mushy and the consistency of the shrimp confused me for a split second (thought it was fried fish). Cabbage was limp and didn't have the nice fresh crisp. Both the carne asada's were stuffed full of meat (the Tejana had the addition of pico, potatoes and guac (didn't really notice the guac) and the street was just carne asada and pico. Both had cheese. They obviously tasted similar with the Tejana having an occasional burst of potato flavor. Overall, I didn't love the flavors or the experience - the flour tortillas were soggy, gummy and sticky and the food was just oily. These three tacos were filling - and I mean it just sat heavy in the belly for hours. Red sauce had a bigger kick than the green but had a funky sour note to it that I wasn't expecting. In retrospect - I should have Yelped the reviews before ordering. It would have clued me in on the fact that this was Cali-mex and not Tex-mex (facepalm - I'm sorry but I just can't get into Cali-mex). read more

Reviewing again because I just love this place! If you're craving a taste of home as a Southern Californian in Texas, get over here. Ultimate comfort food with the San Diegan and the carne asada fries. I've been to the food truck and had it delivered several times over the years. My more recent orders have been amazing. Please never close, we need you! I would still encourage Super Burrito to add pico de gallo as the norm to the carne asada fries but I digress. Also...their salsa...YUM! Such classic red and green salsa, I'm drooling just thinking about this place. Be a cool kid and try some fries in your burrito. read more

I finally went to Super Burrito on Taco Tuesday. I've always had a burrito when I've ordered from there, but half price tacos are hard to resist. Their tacos are definitely hard to resist. Food Safety Concern Regarding Recent Purchase: My friends and I recently had a disappointing experience with Super Burrito. We all got food poisoning after eating from here. The young male working at the time was very rude, did not wrap the food correctly, it wasn't cooked all the way, and there was expired sour cream on it, which was evident from the liquid consistency. I hope this issue gets addressed to prevent others from having a similar experience. read more

Good tacos - also breakfast tacos any time of the day. So the tacos are good. Not great, but not bad either - just good. You can find good tacos in a *lot* of places in Austin, but then again, there are also a lot of *bad* tacos to be had in Austin - so yeah, it's good to know that these are good. The key tho' is to not worry about the menu - order them the way _you_ want them ("carnitas, with avocado and no onions", or whatever) - and enjoy. Incidentally, you can get breakfast tacos any time of the day, and these are *good* ! Lastly, there is a pleasant outdoor area, where you can grab a drink from the nearby "smallest bar in texas", and chill to music. read more

This place came highly recommended by one of my buddies. Very cool location attached to the same lot as the Tiniest Bar in Texas, just a little hut that serves cocktails, beers, whatever you're feeling. Talk about Super Burrito, this place delivers when it comes to being filling as well as the quality of the burrito. Hands-down easily a top 10 burrito place in my books, I could see this place possibly starting a brick & mortar shop one day. We each got a different burrito, but all were great, I don't think you can go wrong at SB! read more

You simply can't get a decent burrito in Austin. It ain't a thing. I used to rely on this spot for the closest alternative to a Cali burrito, but what arrived today was sadness. I threw it out half way through. It was a Super Burrito, but the inside of the tortilla was just ground beef and refriend beans... that's it. Everything else that comes with the burrito was "on the side" in containers - wtf. It always was soft and sloppy and not that great, even when I parceled in the condiments and items missing from within. It was a waste of money and I regret it. I'll never order from here (or anywhere else in Austin) ever again. I guess I'm on my own to roll my own burrito or only enjoy one when I'm traveling. Bummer. read more

I was craving a burrito so I stopped by the smallest bar in Texas to give Super Burrito a try. I went with the asada super burrito and was excited to eat since I was so hungry. When I think of burritos I think of something firm I'm able to hold in my hand and eat without a problem. The burrito I got was a bit runny so it was hard for the burrito to stay together. The tortilla wasn't tightly wrapped. The burrito didn't have much flavor and I didn't get any sauces on the side to put over my burrito. read more

Cute food truck next to an Italian truck and the tiniest bar in Texas, so it does make for a nice stop to get food and drinks. I got a Tejana and their complementary sauces were good with a kick. The tacos were a good size and will definitely fill you up, but it didn't blow me away. I only had one taco, so maybe the other tacos were better. California claims without the California quality, and this critique is coming from a native Mexican-American Californian! The meat was dry, chewy, and the all around flavor of the burrito was bland. The size of the burrito was laughable, being that I've had larger frozen burritos from a grocery store. To receive such poor quality coming from a placed called "SUPER BURRITO" is embarrassing and lazy. I won't be trying them again. If you want a solid burrito with proper size, flavor, and texture akin to what you'd get from a taqueria in the SF Mission District, I recommend a truck called Taco Brother on Brodie Lane near William Cannon. It's kinda far south, but WOW do they do a burrito right! read more

As a visitor to Austin, I've found that the supply of Mexican food is saturated. This quick stop food truck has ample outdoor seating and was a solid mid week, middle of the day lunch option. This place was particularly quick in putting the order together probably less than five minutes. I ordered a breakfast burrito because it was one of the only options with Chorizo on the menu. The other burrito was al pastor because the savory pork worms with the sweet pineapple. Also got a side of hot sauce. Definitely great price and well worth it. Would go back if I could. read more

I absolutely love the food and the rooftop patio that overlooks downtown/the park, and it will forever be somewhere I continue to go, especially during happy hour. I have tried every vegetarian item on their menu, and while everything is great, my personal favorites are: - cheese enchiladas with mole verde (I get this 99% of the time because they are my favorite enchilada in town) - the chile rellano (it's listed in the sides, but I promise you that it can be a meal in itself) - their rice (comes with many of their plates or inside of their enchiladas) is actually soooooo good and one of the things I look forward to - queso (nothing different about it, but it's just a really good standard queso) - flaquita (spicy watermelon margarita; I don't need to say more) - sangria blanca (super refreshing) Up until a few months ago, I would have given this place five stars, but I've noticed a decline in service that is making me knock it down to a four. For example, they used to give free chips and salsa the second you sat down, but the last three times, I've had to ask them for it (pro tip: ask for chips and salsa!!). I've also noticed slower and less attentive service. Overall, I still love El Alma, and when it comes to food and vibes, it has withstood the test of time. Everyone I introduce to El Alma falls in love (my sister visits me once a year, and El Alma is always on the agenda). Corn flour was the other option. Both meals came in pipin' hot & the smell coming from both was very aromatic, zesty & spice. So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! So we had to try... We were lucky to arrive at the right time (9 pm!) where we got their last table!! Make reservations or something because this is another one of those places that fills up! So- we were taken care of immediately: chips and some very hot salsas were set on the table while we chose. They menu is in QR code format, but we asked and got paper menus as well. Well I got the chicken sopecitos , my daughter got the pork ones and my partner got the meat tacos. Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites. Somehow I'd never been despite living so close, so I was excited to finally check it off my list. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, and their famous foyer is just as pretty in person as everyone says. I came with a friend, and we grabbed seats at the bar first while waiting, but I definitely recommend making reservations because this place is BUSY, even on a weeknight. Parking can also be a bit of a struggle since they have a pretty small lot. I had to make a few laps before I finally found a spot, so definitely give yourself a little extra time. They do offer valet, and I believe you may also be able to park in the lot next door after hours since it's their sister restaurant, but don't quote me on that haha. Their margaritas are also really good and definitely on the stronger side, so they were a great way to start the meal. The staff here was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the night. They even walked us to our table and later showed me where the bathroom was, which I thought was a really nice touch. As for the food, it definitely lives up to the hype. It's on the pricier side, but everything tasted incredibly fresh and was well worth it. We ordered the enchiladas, which were delicious, and the shrimp was probably my favorite part of the meal because it was so fresh and perfectly cooked. I can definitely see why this restaurant has been around for so long and has such a loyal following. It took me way too long to finally come here, but I'll definitely be back. One thing I'm noticing as we do these is that you often write reviews that are genuinely useful--not just "food good/bad." You include things like reservations, parking, what to order, or where to sit. I think we should keep leaning into that because it feels very authentic to your style and makes your reviews stand out.

I LOVE super burrito! Before I moved to Austin I visited some friends and we went to the Oltorf location. Super laid back place, some would say sketchy, but I didn't have a problem with it at all. I visited their 5th st. location and was sad because it had moved to a truck location but it doesn't matter, food is just as good and a great location to sit and eat. It felt like a waste of a meal. I thought I was losing my sense of taste or something when I tried all of the tacos, because I could barely taste anything. It wasn't me though, it was the tacos. The horchata was bursting with flavor. One of the most flavorful horchatas I've had, ironically. Something else, they put salsa on your tacos without asking. I personally don't like that, because I'm particular about my tacos, but I know some people appreciate it. Also, they gave me tiny, dry limes that wouldn't even be enough for one taco, let alone three. I was the only customer too, so it wouldn't have killed them to give me better/more limes. BUCHE TACO: It was in chopped pieces. I thought it'd be more chewy, but it was just barely chewy. A little fatty. Pretty mild flavor. It was alright. You're not missing out on anything if you skip this. SUADERO TACO: Not very moist. Honestly, a bit dry. Mild flavor too. Some fatty bits. There's nothing worse than a dry taco lacking flavor, with no lime to help. BIRRIA TACO: I thought this would be the only safe option I chose. Nope. Mild flavor and underwhelming too. Even when dipped in the consomé, which cost an extra $3.50 because I didn't get a combo. They also didn't even ask if I wanted to get any consomé. I had to go back and buy it when I saw the taco didn't come with any. HORCHATA: Best thing I had here. Super flavorful. It tasted like there was a lot of vanilla in it though, which I thought was weird. I've never had horchata with vanilla and it didn't mention it on the menu. But at least it was good and had flavor.
