My Spanish skills are like a baby. So I can order. I always get confused when they call my number and then use my fingers and they nod. Service is friendly and quick. This spot is next to a gas station with a roof, with 8 picnic tables each with a roll of paper towels. The tacos are filled with meat that is so juicy and tender. Flavors are bursting. This is my favorite taco spot in Austin. They have only a couple locations and when you arrive it usually has a little covered picnic area with the different salsa jars, ready for you to sit. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying. One of the best quesadillas I've had in Austin! The quesadilla didn't come with rice or beans, but was relatively filling and cost ~$9. I can't believe I just found this place after living in Austin longer than most people reading this have been alive. This place is not just your average taco truck. It's an establishment that's going to be around forever. To begin with, it's open 20 hours a day You can literally have some late night tortas after being out and about all night, fall out of bed I'm the morning and grab some breakfast tacos. I had El chavo torta, it wasn't bad, it wasn't great. My wife ordered 3 tacos and only finished 2, I got the al pastor, which was good. The other two she had were tripas and bistec. She enjoyed them and said the flavor was better than most. When we went they didn't have drinks but since it's attached to a gas station you can grab whatever you want in there. FINALLY. I have been looking for a great Al Pastor spot with a proper trompo in South Austin for decades. Tacos Las Amazonas (TLA for the rest of this review) did not disappoint. Went with some Al Pastor on corn, bistec (tried on both corn & flour) and gringa (al pastor also). All were good but the Al Pastor is, rightfully, the star. The staff at TLA was friendly and attentive. I arrived before tables had been set out and they helped me get one placed immediately. I was expecting to get real tacos Al Pastor cooked on the trompo. Well at first that seems to be the case, but the reality is different. while they do have the meat on the trompo but they slice parts of it when it's still raw and cook on the flat top.
