The margarita menu includes some really interesting flavors like cucumber (pictured) and watermelon. I liked that they weren't super sweet, and they came garnished with orchids. I was greeted and seated right away, I ordered the house drink which came out as soon as I blinked...very strong drinks. You definitely get your money's worth and will have you debating if you even need a 2nd go round. The food was average my tastebuds gave it a B+ and although I enjoyed the salsa I felt the chips to be a bit hard as if I would chip a tooth or it scratch the root of my mouth. It has a nicely dim feel on the inside and plenty of room to stretch, you don't feel like you can reach out and touch the person seated at the next table over. Vivo is a solid Tex-mex place. There's nothing fancy about it but the food is good. This was my second visit and we had a group of six. We started with some queso and guacamole both of which were good. I ordered the beef enchiladas which were good. Others got an assortment of tacos and enchiladas. Nothing was amazing but everyone was happy. The service was probably the high point...our server was very attentive and clearly had been there a while. When we ordered, she did a great job prompting for common additions and subtractions to each dish. If you are in the area and looking for decent Tex-Mex this is a solid option. read more

I used to come here all the time before 2020. Back for the first time since then and they are still ON IT with the Mexican martinis. Maria is wonderful, so friendly and helpful. As someone in the service industry I really appreciate when I see someone really take care of their customers like they are friends. Super affordable Tex-mex place with a massive menu. As a vegetarian I was amazed by how many options I had, when I'm typically faced with less than a handful. Even the margarita selection was the size of some smaller restaurants entire menu. To drink, I had La Boca Picosa, which was a jalepeño margarita. This captured the flavor of the jalepeño but without any of its spiciness, and I like that it had Black Sea salt on the rim. I do wish it had a bit more kick to it. To eat, I opted for their Chalupa and Enchilada combo (Cameron's Choice) with the Enchiladas de Hongos y Espinacas and the Chalupa Compuesta. The enchilada was perfect; it was packed with spinach and the vegetarian sauce that it came for was incredible. I wasn't as much of a fan of the chalupa. The beans on it were good but the base and toppings didn't really taste like much to me. Everything was super cheap to order, and the portion sizes were massive. This place gets pretty busy even on a weekday night, but the servers were very nice and the food was out relatively quick. Restaurant lighting was very dim. Parking was plentiful. read more

I keep forgetting to write my review. Well I enjoyed my meal here. I had the Pollo Vivo. It comes with Spanish rice and refried beans. All of it together made the meal complete. The sauces are a little spicy, but not ridiculously spicy. The meal comes with complimentary chips and salsa, both equally good as the meal itself. I ordered a frozen Margarita with blood orange puree. It was as tasty as it looked! The place was clean and organized, the staff was friendly and sincere. I did think my server was a little slow on getting to me, however she was waiting on several others at the same time. When I arrived a party was leaving. It seemed like there were about 20 people In the group so a little extra busy that day. Overall the food was excellent, the server was very nice and the cost was good. They were so accommodating and pleasant about everything - pulling tables together and rearranging when latecomers arrived. The nightmare of mostly separate checks was totally handled with a smile, the drinks flowed perfectly (try a tamarind margarita sometime) and food orders were spot on - no complaints from anyone! I had a shrimp relleno and WOW, it was delicious. And I brought some home - in fact the reheated relleno was what prompted this review. I love this dish!! This spot is located in the Linc next to AFS. I caught the tail end of happy hour: 4-6pm M-F. You get $2 off beers, margs, and select half price apps and 2 for $6 tacos. Seemed like the margs had changed a bit since my last visit (they had more of an artificial sweet n sour mix vibe), but the price is right and they're always strong. I think Vivo has some of the best salsa in town. It's spicy but tastes homemade and FLAVORFUL. I also love the cantina chips. I enjoyed the 1/2 macho nacho HH plate and HH spinach and mushroom quesadillas. They were great. The real star of the show was my puffy taco plate. There was so much shredded chicken and it was DELICIOUS and juicy. The corn tortilla was perfectly puffed and fried, and the rice and beans had great flavor as well. We wanted to try a new place, and our son wanted Mexican. This is new to us. Our waitress was very good. The margaritas were outstanding. They were flavorful, smooth, and the flavors were layered. They were NOT WATERED DOWN as they are in so many other restaurants. The rice was outstanding. In so many restaurants, we can't eat the rice because it is either too salty OR too crunchy. This was perfect! As well, my son and husband loved the beans. Oh, the chips were sort of "fluffy" and the salsa was hot! Both were great! The problem? I took the first bite of my beef fajita, and there was a LONG hair wrapped inside it. I unwrapped it from the bite I took. It was not mine. My hair isn't that long. I was done. Texas and Austin have a law about chefs/cooks wearing hair wraps or tying their hair up when preparing food. I could not see into the kitchen when I went to the restroom to see if this was the case, but I was done. My husband and so did not have this issue and continued with their meals. I ordered another margarita and finished my son's rice. I am giving this 3 stars because the food WAS good, the service was outstanding, and everyone was so nice. I was just really, well, grossed out by the hair. I worked in a restaurant in high school and college, and in NY. It happens.
