A quick southern classic, Chuy's serves up casual Tex Mex vibes backed up by good quality eats. We were recently at the Mueller Farmer's Market and were a bit hungry so we stopped by. Parking was TOUGH to find but that's more because of the farmers market's popularity than anything. The restaurant is nice, eclectically decorated, and just overall fun. They have both indoor and outdoor options but we chose indoor since it was chilly. We arrived with a party of four and were promptly seated. One thing we absolutely love is that this is one of the few places we've been at in Austin that still serves chips for free ahead of the meal, and the chips are good too. Our server was nice and we quickly ordered their steak burrito and cheese quesadilla. The food came out relatively fast and was piping hot. The steak burrito was delicious, very spicy and savory. Their green sauce brings a good and tasty layer of spice to the dish. The cheese quesadillas were also good. The tortilla was warm and soft and the cheese was the perfect amount melted in-between it. Chuy's may be a chain restaurant but it's surprisingly good quality for one. We would definitely stop by this chain again and if you're looking for something quick to sit down and eat in Mueller then this spot may just be for you. read more

Everyone was excited that a Chuy opened in our neighborhood so I had to check it out. Came here on Friday night at 730 for a show and my group of five was able to be seated right away. We all got some drinks and I got the New Mexican martini. It was quite delicious and at a pretty decent price. I ended up on the steak burrito for food and it too was also quite delicious at a decent price. Overall, it would be a good place for casual food and drinks. Chuy's in Mueller is a good location to meet people as they have street parking and a garage with validation. The weather was nice last week so the 4 of us were able to sit on the patio. The service was a bit slow and hard to get attention but our food came out quickly once we ordered and we all enjoyed the options we ordered. I tried the chicken relleno and enchilada for the first time. Others had various enchilada dishes including the chicken with boom boom sauce. Love this chuys! It's a brand new location so usually a safe bet as far as clean and new equipment! Very cool and eclectic inside - plenty of fun decorations! We split the panchos with ground beef and the green chile chicken enchiladas - both incredible! The panchos are the best way to have nachos - everything on one big chip! The enchiladas are delicious too - so yummy and cheesy and full of chicken and chiles inside. I also got the watermelon tini - insane deal for $11.50 - it's so sweet and refreshing - I love it for summer! Service was great - always nice when they offer free chips and salsa too! read more

Well decorated and lively, Chuy's a must have staple in Austin! My friend, a UT grad, took charge in recommending me dishes to try. I thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary chips, and the green cream-based sauce paired very well with it. I liked its ranch-like taste! I got the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas. It was very flavorful and a good balance of spicy and savory. The rice was my favorite! Well seasoned and cooked, it was fluffy and a nice contrast to the wetness of the enchiladas. This is definitely a heavy meal, so be advised before eating here. Parking was not difficult at least after 7pm on a Monday. Whenever someone from out of town asks for a Tex-Mex recommendation, I always recommend Chuy's--it's a solid option that never disappoints. I came in on a slower day and was quickly seated on the patio. Our bartender/server was awesome--super chill, efficient, and made our experience feel relaxed. Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to my usual Chuy's standard. The food was lukewarm and lacked the seasoning I love. I always order the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo because I look forward to the leftovers, but this time, the meal was so underwhelming that I ended up throwing the leftovers out the next day. Here's a clearer and more polished version of your review: We went there on Saturday around 4:00 PM, and it was the worst experience I've ever had at this restaurant. Our waiter was missing for extended periods of time, making it nearly impossible to get any assistance. I ordered a chicken fajita enchilada à la carte with queso on top, and I found eggshell in my food. I hadn't even ordered anything with eggs. On top of that, when I unwrapped my silverware, it was dirty and had green lettuce stuck to it. I didn't complain at the time because I couldn't find the waiter, and by then I felt like there was no point. To make matters worse, I came down with food poisoning afterward, and I'm pretty sure it came from this meal. Once I found the eggshell, I stopped eating immediately. Chile Rellenos 2.0 are back on the menu, but they're not quite like 1999 or 2019 before Covid-19 iykyk being that they're breaded with panko or maybe Lay's potato chips and they're maybe pre-prepped with a chicken breast filling and frozen versus really fresh roasted chicken breast and Anaheim Chile peppers. I guess I'd say that they're good or okay, but not nearly as great as before. I was able to sub the Green Chile Rice from the special feature Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, so that was the best part and the saving grace to my meal. Overall, the Mueller Chuy's is developing it's own vibe and is good, but unlike the iconic Barton Springs, North Lamar, and Round Rock locations we still have a ways to go and maybe it's just that it's no longer possible to be like before whether it's Barton Springs, Round Rock or Mueller. Probably best just to enjoy Chuy's nowadays for what it's become and cherish the many precious beloved menu items that haven't changed, as Chuy's still is better than many ever were or those that lost their identity during the covid environment or from the challenges that have resulted the past few years. read more

Service was horribly disappointing. The past two visits have both been unfriendly experiences. During this visit, we sat outside where only two other tables were occupied out of about 12 available tables. We waited 20 minutes without being greeted, offered chips, drinks, or any service at all before finally leaving. Meanwhile, the other tables were checked on multiple times, checked out, and one party even received their food while we were completely ignored. Went for a weekday lunch and enjoyed some great weather and service on their patio. Friendly and efficient service. I appreciated our server steering me in the direction of a sauce that wasn't too spicy for me. Chips and avocado-jalapeño dip is easy to fill up on so beware! I really enjoyed the build your own enchiladas, and I appreciate that option. I'm excited to go back and try more things, but I need to check to menu to see if they have shrimp fajitas. Tried to order some side appetizers a few weeks ago and couldn't and ended up refunded. Great restaurant, horrible delivery/service.

If you plan on coming here, the first thing you need to know is that they have no parking lot. It's all paid street parking which means you'll be plugging in some cash at the kiosk. There's no free parking anywhere in the area. The first thing you notice about this place, is that it is located at the base of a multi story apartment building, which means they have a captive audience. From a design perspective, they really nailed it in keeping with their iconic style. The second thing you notice is that they have a pretty limited food menu and they do not offer black or Barracho beans as a substitute (they do have french fries). They have a happy hour from 3 to 6 PM on weekdays, but I was surprised that they have absolutely no local craft beer whatsoever, just Shiner and Blue Moon. They do have some great thin chips and their salsa is definitely on the non offensive warm side. You do get a good sized portion on the plate, but the side of tortillas I got were like chewing on thin cardboard. Overall, our two dishes were good according to Chuy's texmex style and service was very attentive. When it's time to check out, they do not have a handheld device with predetermined tips at the ready. Basically a 3 1/2 Star experience, but half a star extra for exceptional service. I rarely leave reviews, but my recent experience off-put me to the idea of coming back. The food and the ambiance were good as usual so I left a well deserved tip ... as usual. But we were very disappointed with what happened after. Context: My wife put down her sunglasses on the table when our meal arrived. I payed the check once we finished our meal and I stepped into the restroom. Once I returned to the table we were ready to go so I signaled my wife for us to leave so we stepped out. We walked around the block, stopped by one shop, then headed to the car. Couldn't have been longer than 20 minutes. This is when she noticed that her glasses were missing. We both knew immediately that she left them at the table while we were eating. I didn't recall her leaving with them and we never put anything down while shopping. She didn't even step into a restroom .. we were just walking around essentially so we were very confident they are/were still on that table. My wife offered to rush back by herself in hopes of either finding the sunglasses or getting assistance from the staff. As she entered she noticed that there still wasn't that many guests seated, which was a sigh of relief for her because she was sure that a staff member would have noticed the glasses ...especially after attending to the table for the check, clean up, set up, etc. So she asked one of the staff members if a pair of sunglasses were found on our table. She also pointed out which table we were seated at. Unfortunately another party was seated at that table already, within the 20 minutes after we left and came back. The staff member offered to take my wife's phone number down in case her glasses were found. My wife came back to the car saddened and told me what had happened. So I decided I'd make a second attempt at asking around the staff with more detail of what may have happened. Before I could even do that ... I tried to speak to the gentleman standing behind the desk but was cut off after three words. I said "My wife just --" and was immediately interrupted with "You can go look for them yourself if you want." I was visibly confused and went from disappointed to upset immediately after that. A second worker followed up saying "Yeah we couldn't find them, sorry!" If I wasn't already suspicious about the situation before, by now I definitely was. I thought the situation was a bit strange hearing it from my wife but after I walked in myself I definitely understood what she was talking about. I dismissed myself to not escalate anything further with my current emotional state .. but now we've both decided to not share memories in this restaurant anymore. We're both saddened that we lost her favorite sunglasses that I bought her for our anniversary, but that was overwritten with our negative experience with the staff. I genuinely don't think we were being unreasonable and were not met with the same attitude. read more

Great spot for Tex Mex! We left the place feeling so full, and I love the variety of food on the menus. The frozen margs are so good, and you can customize with a swirl of flavors if desired. The food was solid and portions are huge, although we would have preferred the tortillas for the fajitas to be softer (they were a little dry and tough). Service was great, they were a bit busy but we still felt taken care of. They have TVs if you're into sports, an outdoor patio, and overall just a fun vibe with colorful decor. Chuy's is one of my favorite spots to go with friends. The atmosphere is super chill and it's great spot if you're craving mexican food on the go. LOVE the ranch they bring out with the chips and salsa. When I went yesterday I got the chicken fajitas. They were so yummy and the portion size was huge so it ended up becoming three meals worth for me. It also tasted great as leftovers. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the side of toppings came in a huge dish. The tortillas tasted super fresh, however, I do wish I was given more than 3. The service was friendly even though the place was pretty busy. They did take a while for my boyfriends food to come out. Not the Chuy's I remember, menu was not what it used to be and the food was not much better.

I can't speak on the food because we didn't make it far enough to that point. Stopped in with my fiance to grab a drink and some dinner. We were seated in the main dining room where I first picked up the drink menu. The menu lamination was so dirty and it had a thick film all over it which made my stomach turn a little bit after touching it, but I didn't want to bring it up. Then, my fiance said "don't look at the ground whatever you do" so obviously I looked. And that's when I noticed the entire ground around us had smushed/ripped up gobs of food, trash/straw wrappers, and dirt EVERYWHERE. It wasn't just our table, it was everywhere on the ground. The walls near the bathroom hallway even had gray streaks of what looked to be dust and crumbs mixed together. I've never seen anything like it at an eating establishment. It's hard to have an appetite when you feel surrounded by filth, so we left after getting our drinks. Also as a disclaimer I'm not a germaphobe and have never left a restaurant for this reason before until tonight. We made sure to tip the waiter well because he was really nice and we felt bad leaving and not buying more, but yeah we had to go. Chuy's do better because we love your food and love the original location!! I understand more family friendly restaurants are going to have messy young children eating, but you can't just leave the mess there (especially since it was pretty slow and mostly empty in the dining area when we got there). When the dining area is filthy it makes you wonder what the kitchen is like...sucks because we've ordered Chuys a lot on Caviar and now I'm going to have a hard time ordering from there again because I feel so grossed out :( read more

The Chuy's in Mueller is a welcome addition! This is exactly the type of place Mueller was lacking, a great, reasonably priced, Tex mex place with a full bar, that's family friendly with both indoor and outdoor seating. The hostess, Serena and our server, John, were both so kind and welcoming, as was the rest of the staff. The chips and salsa hit the table at almost the same time we did, and they were eager to bring us more, which is always appreciated! The salsa is nice and spicy, and always fresh. The chips are warm and salted perfectly. We got there starving and nearly had to be rolled out, with leftovers in hand. The chuychanga with boom boom sauce is FIRE! Out of the 9 years I've been going to Chuys, it's still probably my favorite of all time! It's fried, but not overly oily like some, and not too doughy! My husband got the chicken burrito which, there was no way in heck he was going to pick it up, it's definitely a fork and knife style burrito, which he chose to have nestled amongst the green chile sauce. There's several house made sauces to choose from, and dare I say, choosing one is probably harder than deciding what to actually order. We're not usually dessert people because we're so full, but after seeing multiple desserts come out, I had to oblige when John asked if we'd like a tres leches cake. First of all, it was nearly a quarter of a sheet cake, it was massive. And probably one of the best I've had!! Honestly. The cream, caramel and strawberries were a unique touch I haven't had before and it was perfectly moist, without being soggy, and not sickeningly sweet like some others can be. The margaritas are perfect, I can't say a single ill word about them or even that they come too slow because the staff is always rapid fire to keep your marg glass full. I will say, next time I'm going to try the Mexican martini with jalapeños stuffed olives though for sure!
