I can only comment on the margaritas, but man, they are so good! My husband is usually particular about his margaritas and these didn't disappoint. We had them made with Dulce Vida tequila and they tasted just like the ones we make at home. The bartender was awesome and the vibe was relaxing and casual. The patio is a great place to sit when the weather is nice. We're so glad we stopped by here after dinner and now have a new go-to spot for good drinks!
I haven't been to Mi Madre's in years and I have no idea why. It's such a solid Austin staple. The food is good, the service is good, the vibes are good. They have a pretty extensive patio and it's typically easy to get a table even on a busy weekend. They have a good drink selection and it's a great location. Very limited parking but you can park in the surrounding neighborhood. Adding it back to the normal rotation for sure! Pro tip: stop by Techo Mezcaleria upstairs (through School House pub) for post-dinner cocktails.
The food was terrible for my daughter & I. The restaurant was a nice place, nice decor & our server was amicable. I ordered the 2 Barbacoa taco plate which included 2 corn tortillas which were hard, charro beans that were very spicy with chili powder and Mexican rice, which I had never heard of or eaten. Being from San Antonio, TX Spanish rice is always on the menu, but again I was not in San Antonio, TX. My daughter ordered a 2 taco plate that came with Carne Guisada & fajita tacos. There was no gravy on the carne Guisada taco & the fajita taco was very dry. She ordered queso with chips & the queso was good which included avacado, sour cream, hamburger meat & refried beans. This was not a good restaurant meal for us. My apology to the restaurant owner. RECOMMENDATION: I would never, ever return to MI Madre's Restaurant, the food was bland & terrible.
Can't believe this was my first time trying mi madres and I've been here for 6 years. I've heard they have some of the best breakfast tacos in Austin and I have to say, I can see it! The barbacoa and pico taco was my favorite because it was juicy and fatty, but also fresh. I can see these tacos being the best hangover tacos. Would I come here every day for tacos? Probably not because I'm not hungover every day, but would I stop by again sometime in the future? Yea I can would be back.
This is an interesting restaurant that looks as though it has been cobbled together from an old house. Inside this small space you'll find that the floor is not level, less than a dozen tables, five seats at the bar, low ceiling and barely functioning AC. Parking is fairly limited in this area, but at least there's no parking kiosks that I could see. Happy hour is from 4 to 7 T-F, but keep in mind they are closed on Monday. They do have some outside covered seating as well as patio seating in the sun. Chips and salsa are not complementary here ($3 and no refill for us) and the queso is another $11. Unfortunately, most of our chips were broken into small pieces, but they make a good salsa. I also ordered queso, but the Mexican music inside was so loud the waiter did not hear me, so it never arrived. The margaritas here are decent in quality and size, they also have a very good tequila selection at the bar. I enjoyed their take on the beef enchiladas, and their chicken nachos are individually made. Where they lose some points is that on the menu, the nachos are supposed to come with black beans, but instead were made with less healthy refried beans which my wife did not care for. They do make Charro beans in case you want to sub the refried beans. They do offer soppapillas and flan for dessert. It should be mentioned they have a Mezcal bar upstairs. Typically, I rate most Tex-Mex restaurants around three stars, but the food here is a little better than most. Despite some shortcomings on our visit, I'll still give them 4*. Service was attentive. Check out the bill and informative photos below.
It's been many years since I eat at Mi Madre's, but the best part is that they remain good in terms of service and food. We came here for breakfast and we both had carne guisada combos. Yummy!!! It was such a nice weather that we ate outside at the patio and that made the food taste even better. We didn't know that they now have a bar upstairs. We want to try some other time!
Little place that we found as we had a little hunger but didn't want anything too big. The breakfast tacos here are perfect. The food came fresh and quick and service was great. It took the edge off and we were able to head to our appointment. It has a take out building next door so if you need to do a pick up, it's rather convenient. Next time will come back and try lunch. See you soon!
If you're looking for down to earth classic Tex Mex cooking in Cherrywood this spot fits the bill. The carne guisada tacos were rich and tasty. The beef was oh so tender. Since this is cherrywood the prices are a tad more gentrified - my taco was about $5. The chips were ok and the salsa was more on the milder side so less chilies and more tomato. Queso was what you'd expect queso to be so it fit the standard. A great option if you want something more home style in the area.
Came here with a very large group and took up two large tables. We only had one server and he seemed very overwhelmed but displayed it poorly. We were started with chips and salsa. I got the veggie rito. It was a very large burrito. Definitely enough for two meals. However it was very lacking in flavor, nothing about it stood out and kind of just tasted like mush.
Tacos tacos! I finally made it Mi Madre for a quick bite to eat. This place has been open for decades and can't believe I haven't been. Well finally I got tacos! The staff was so friendly and Veronica, our server was helpful. My friend and I only ordered tacos but the 3 different kinds we tried filled us up! We ordered a migas, crispy beef, and chicken fajita. The came out overflowing with filling. They did not disappoint! Try the limonada. It's fresh and actually ended up making an Arnold Palmer out of it. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! Yum!
Was coming through Austin from Fredericksburg and my parents suggested this place, which was a great option to meet them as I headed back to dallas! It was en route and just a few exits away to keep me on track as I drove through! Got here and parking looked like would be street, so could seem limited, but there is a whole lot behind the building, so parking is plentiful. Walked in and was greeted timely by the host and manager! They say me immediately while I waited for my parents. Faith was great, came out smiling when she greeted me. As she brought my drink back, my parents had joined by this time and had remembered them from previous visits, by name!! Mind you, they don't live in Austin, lol, they live in dallas! She was a great server! Chips and salsa came out soon after and they were sooo good! I don't know if they make them in house, but those chips were freakin delish, and I just wanted them to keep coming! I ordered the beef enchiladas and my parents both got one breakfast taco, bacon egg and cheese. The tacos were a great size, and looked yummy, and then enchiladas were fantastic! I got it with the chili con carne and queso on top and it took was packed with me and delish! Throughout the meal, the manager came by to check on us, And there was someone always walking around refilling coffee. Definitely I can see why my parents are regulars here! Will be back here to try more next trip to Austin!

We went here in a larger group for a birthday. Our server was really friendly and quick. We split an order of fish tacos and they were okay. Not my personal favorite, to be honest. I felt like it lacked some seasoning/flavor. The queso was really good though and I loved my spiked Jarritos! Just a heads up parties of 6+ are automatically tipped 20%. I might have missed it on the menu, but we were not told that verbally. I saw it once receipt came out. read more
This was an okay Mexican spot. Not terrible but not the best fish tacos ive had. The beans and rice were also just average. Perhaps i ordered the wrong thing as the main. I do recommend the chips, salsa, & queso. Service was good. This place is still worth trying but it was just a mid spot for me. read more
This is pretty much an institution by now, we go Sundays after our row. Lots of tasty tacos, chips and salsa are good (were better when free and automatic though). Service is great, the outside seating is awesome when the weather's good. As a meat-eater my favorites are #18 (barbacoa) and #7 (carne guisada), but pretty much all the tacos are tasty. Special shoutout to #14, the crispy taco, just like the ones your mom made in the 79s and 80s. read more

Sunday night cinco de mayo and it's hopping! The food was great and service was speedy and nice. Everything looked so appetizing it was hard to choose, a great local spot for Tex-mex after landing in Austin a few hours ago. read more

Unassuming place with really good food. We went with the daily special (pork enchiladas) and chicken mole enchiladas. Those two were both damn good - the mole was a darker one and kinda sweet. The pork was soft (not mushy!) and flavorful. The salsa served with the chips was obviously home made, fresh, and mildly garlicky- YUM! (She let us take the table leftovers with us!). She also gave us some of their green salsa (maybe called "Diablo"?) and it's amazing as well. Citrusy and creamy and ... a decent bite to it. It's worth it to mention the tortilla chips- they're very distinctive. Hard to describe, but they have these craters (that pocket a bit more of that red salsa) and a really great taste. She mentioned they're made specifically for them. I don't think we've ever had chips like that! We happened to be there during happy hour so got margaritas with tajin on the rim. Wish we were gonna be around longer, we'd have come back to do happy hour right! Overall, great food, very attentive service, and a nice vibe. Seriously, can someone convince them to open a location in Los Angeles? read more
I love Mi Madres! The food is solid, the people working there are always so nice, the drinks are on point! They have a mezcal cocktail bar upstairs and then there's School House next to it so you can literally have dinner and bar hopping all without leaving that area. You can decide if you want to do queso first and then bar hop, or bar hop and then queso. You do you! read more
Upstairs bar!!!! Omg the upstairs bar!! Cute lil speakeasy, capacity is about 20 people. The drinks were incredible. Top notch vibes. Highly recommend. Giant margs!! Wow they are big and if you do the math it comes to like $4-5 a drink so it's a great deal! I thought my mole was too sweet and that would knock a star for me but the upstairs mezcal bar was honestly one of my favorite finds I've found in a while!! read more

First things first the service was outstanding. Sadly the food didn't excite me the way I'd hoped..I've been here a few times to pick up orders to be delivered and the smells were amazing combine that with the crowd and I expected pure delight. We ordered taco plates and the Saltillo dip and it just was not the taste I'd hoped for/expected. The dip was the best thing, the tacos were a little bland and flavorless. The day we went it was midday and on the slower side so there wasn't a crowd or crazy wait to be seated nor to be served but also increased my expectation to receive greatness in food form lol. Our waitress was a sweetheart, she was extremely polite and on top of her game. If her service wasn't so great this would've easily been a 1 star review. Personally I won't return because the food didn't do it for me but I want to be sure to stress that the service was amazing. read more
If you take away nothing else, order the horchata. I only got this and an order of guacamole and chips. Based on those two simple items, I'm coming back soon. The chips had amazing texture and seasoning. Seems like something they really take pride in rather than a throw away side. The horchata was amazing. It didn't feel too heavy and I had to pace myself so it wouldn't be gone before I made it the 5 minutes to work. read more

OMG! Mi Madres never disappoints! We are here for breakfast on Sunday morning and it's busy, but we get a table right away. They do have a cool patio area as well! Isaiah, the door hostess, always takes great care of us & gets us a table! Whether it's just me & my husband or a group. The manager, Donald, always comes by and greets us & talks to us!! Our favorite waitress, Faith, always remembers us by name and takes great care of us! Service is excellent!! We started off with some yummy mimosas!! The food is hot and fresh! Breakfast tacos are delicious, as are the chips and salsa and queso! They never disappoint!! We always come back, when we are in Austin!! Thank you! Mi Madres! An Austin staple for Mexican food!! read more

We visited Mi Madre's recently and had a great experience! Our server was super knowledgeable about the menu and very positive about the establishment and life in general. Love it when you get positive and happy servers! He recommended the Carne Guidsada Tacos (that stew meat was very flavorful!) which I had enough for breakfast the next day! My husband was all set to eat chicken mole enchiladas which were also terrific. This is a great spot for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. For a quick and simple meal stop or a big group. Will be back again. read more
