Met a fried for a last minute Happy Hour here on Cinco de Mayo last week. It was supposed to have been 4 of us but 2 had to bail last minute. Frustrating but the folks at Verdad were so accommodating because the 2 of us who made it moved from a table to the bar so we could partake of their HH specials. They were also running Cinco de Mayo specials but only in the dining area and the HH items while sitting at the bar top made for sense for us. We really appreciated their flexibility on the changing number of people and our request to move to the bar! The place was really nicely decorated and very full that day. I'm sure I'll find myself back there again soon!

I came here for happy hour and sat at the bar. This restaurant is pretty spacious. There's the left side which is the bar and high tops and then the dining area up the stairs past the host stand. Parking in the garage behind the building was helpful, since it was pouring cats and dogs this day. We ordered everything on the happy hour menu for $9 and our drinks were $9? It was clever and cheap. HH went until 6:30! The apps and drinks were delicious, you can't go wrong with a margarita. Great place to catch up, friendly staff, yummy foods. Also, the bar surface area is very wide, so we sat in the corner and were able to have alot of space, like we were at our own table. The Grove is lucky to have this restaurant.

The Ambience - 10/10!!! The restaurant is VERY spacious, beautifully designed, and in a beautiful area (The Grove). I had my birthday dinner here and the table was HUGE. Perfect for a big party. One side was large booth seating (could fit about 4-5 people) and the other was chair seating (about 3-4). It was perfect for my dinner. The drinks: 11/10!!! Everyone LOVED their drinks. I got a margarita (fresa fantastica) and that was the best margarita, especially strawberry margarita, that I've had in a long time. I'm going back for the drinks alone! The food: 5/10. Decent, but nothing to rave about. Nevertheless, I would absolutely come back here. Not for the food, but the drinks & ambience. Also, shoutout to the staff! I thought I left something at the restaurant, so I called to check. The man who answered was so kind and looked for the item. It wasn't there (thank God I found it somewhere else) but I really appreciated him for taking the time to look! He seemed genuinely concerned and like he cared.

This would probably be 3.5 stars but rounding up. I have mixed feelings about this place. This was the first time I've come for happy hour (only been for dinner before) and so the 4 stars are for the happy hour which is M-F from 4-630 in the bar and patio area. Great drink options, some fun appetizers to try (altho not a huge selection) so worth it to come during this time. And the service is always great so I do appreciate that! Dinner/non-HH items however to me, are really overpriced. The bacon wrapped scallops were $24 - really? The "filet taco Friday" was a nice surprise and these were definitely delicious! The guac - amazinggg. Mole tasting - meh. Scallop ceviche - not my vibe. Nachos - fun take on them and very tasty. So all in all, I'd come back only for HH!

I love the atmosphere and the service for our private event was excellent. The food; however, wasn't five stars. Some at my table had the special fajita plate with lobster and ribs...it looked awesome! I had the calamari which was tasty (even though they don't serve it with marinara), the ceviche, and the salsa trio for apps. They were all good. I went wrong with my main entree, the seafood enchiladas. The sauce was extra heavy and rich but that was ok. The seafood inside the tortillas was minimal and was certainly over powered by all the corn and peppers and cumin .

Located off MoPac and 45th in the Grove, VERDAD has a spacious interior and some interesting dishes on a fairly large menu. Major ingredient types and allergens are clearly labeled on their menu next to each item, with a detailed legend located at the bottom of the menu. In place of chips and salsa, they offer both Mole and Salsa tastings on their menu, which come with a smattering of their white masa chips and with the mole or salsas in three cups. Their salsa has prominent flavors, but none of them are particularly spicy. For beverages, we went with NA options of Tamarind Ginger Ale and Prickly Pink Soda (their answer to the Pink Pamola). The mains are interesting. Pricing appears to be roughly double what you'd pay for standardized versions of each dish. Since it was our first time here, I was uncertain about exact portion sizes. I ended up confused by their drastically different portion sizes between entrees. The Vegan Relleno entree is filled with butternut squash, spinach, beans, corn, and a cashew crema. It utilizes a large poblano pepper. The flavors are varied, but it lacks something to tie them neatly all together. If they had prepared each of the pieces of butternut squash more consistently, the butternut squash would have formed the base. A starchier option, rather than watery, would have sufficed. The Seared Sea Scallops with Huitlacoche 'Caviar' are disappointingly small and unfilling as an entree. Surprisingly, this entree is served with nothing else. Flavorwise, the scallops aren't too bad, if not a tad bit salty with a slightly fishy aroma and a bit of sandy grit. The "colossal" scallop description on the menu is misleading. I did like the corn blinis... The radish slices with rolled cucumber are supposed to be a garnish. But they don't appear to be a garnish. They are located on the plate, rather than on either the scallop or the blini. Which leads to confusion about which to pair the radish and cucumber with. The small scallop entree size necessitated an additional appetizer order of Chargrilled Octopus with Guajillo Glaze. The octopus is drenched in much more than a glaze, and the appetizer is more filling than the scallop entree. It is also quite salty from the sauce. However, the preparation of octopus itself is fine. Smokey, and soft enough to not complain about chewiness. Parking is ample, either on the street or in one of the nearby garages. The kitchen is open, and it looks packed with stacks of items on stainless steel shelves and workspaces. Overall, it's clear you will be paying more for ambiance and real estate location rather than food quality. Some of the flavors here are respectable, but the flavors here aren't the wow factor; instead the VERDAD team has decided to emphasize the interior design of their dining area.

I'm IN LOVE with this place. The enchiladas here are delicious. On Sundays, they have an enchiladas special, where you can order any enchilada entree with a side of soup or salad for $29. Such a steal! I ordered both their Chef's Chicken Enchiladas and the Pork Enchiladas with Salsa Verde. Both are fantastic, but I think the pork enchiladas take the cake. The salsa verde is tangy, while the enchilada sauce for the chicken is slightly richer (but not too heavy). I also recommend the Hamachi Ceviche as an appetizer. It's light and easy to share. The only dish I've tried that I wasn't the craziest about was the Seared Sea Scallops with Huitlacoche 'Caviar.' The scallops themselves were super yummy; however, I wasn't a fan of the Huitlacoche 'caviar.' The flavor was quite overwhelming in comparison to the scallops and the rest of the dish. That said, I will 100% be coming back. The service here is stellar, and there's so much on the money that I'll have to try next time.

Food, drinks, service, and atmosphere are excellent! This restaurant is beautiful on the inside. Love all the different lighting they have! They have a great drink selection and we all loved our drinks. Very unique selections too! Our waitress, Z, was the perfect amount of attentiveness and personable conversation. Must gets: mole tasting 10 out of 10 (who knew you could dip chips into mole like salsa), fajita board (chicken, steak, shrimp, lobster, pork rib, scallops, oh my!), and the duck (perfection! ). Appreciate their parking garage and validation as well. Run don't walk to this place! The Perry's group hits it out of the park!

atmosphere: 10/10, food: 10/10. if you want a elevated fancier classier mexican restaurant, verdad is your best friend. we got queso and guac to start and both were great, no complaints (but these are hard to mess up). Their menu is HUGE so i decided to go for something alittle more unique and got the steak relleno. My worry was that there wasnt gonna be enough food but boy was i wrong. It came with two relleno peppers STUFFED with steak, sausage, and all good things. Be aware tho, these peppers are pretty spicy sooo if you can't take spice, DO NOT get this!!! It was very flavorful and very filling. Lots and lots of meat stuffed in it! Service was quick, and he split our checks without us asking for it so that was very nice

I was so thoroughly pleased with my first experience at Verdad. I found this spot when I came across a last minute available reservation on OpenTable. The interior was beautifully decorated and there's a few different dining areas (inside and out). I loved everything I ordered: Salsa Tasting, Hamachi Ceviche, Fiesta Board (grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops, pork spare ribs and sides), Fresa Fantastica frozen margarita and a signature rocks margarita. The fiesta board is a great "bang for your buck" option and tasted fantastic. My only complaints would be about the pricing of the alcoholic beverages and how the hot chocolate tasted (threw it away). The bevs could definitely be a lot cheaper for the amount that you get or they could give you a bit more. $17 for a frozen margarita in a martini type glass is wild. Other than that, no notes. I will absolutely be back there to try other items.

We thoroughly enjoyed VERDAD. When we arrived our table wasn't ready so we headed to our favorite spot - THE BAR we actually prefer sitting at the bar but always book tables to ensure we get a seat. We loved the bartender and I need to find her name. She was friendly and very knowledgeable on both food and drink. I don't typically care for mezcal but she recommended her favorite drink which had both tequila and mezcal- I was skeptical but she did not steer me wrong. My spouse had the regular margarita which was well balanced and tasty despite that they pre batch their cocktails. Our table was ready right as we were deciding on what to eat and after our wonderful bartenders food recommendation decided to take it as it was extremely loud. Not slightly, but very loud so if you're on a first date ummmm this may not be the place. The table was definitely quieter and I didn't realize how large the restaurant was until heading in that direction. For food we settled on the shared board that was a smorgasbord of lots of yummy things. It was the perfect size for 2 with leftovers. I'd definitely return and want to make it for HH. Thanks VERDAD!

Verdad....great ambiance, it's sexy. Food equaled that. The plates exploded with flavor. All the different Mexican peppers used, were done perfectly. We had the ceviche, octopus, lobster quesadillas, the duck, rib eye and filet tacos. Oh oh and the corn soufflé.... Which by the way should be automatically serviced with everything it was so good. If you're looking for something different, exotics where flavors burst in your mouth this is it. The only complaint was the stuffing in the duck entree was cold but flavor still delivered. For the price it should be hot. Regardless....just get the margarita pie for dessert. We got an extra to go home.

Pretty good Mexican cuisine. We started off with the guacamole and it was tasty but the chips were just okay. I had the cherry mole duck and it was absolutely amazing and mouth watering. I will dream of that duck dish. My wife had the filet mignon tacos and said they were tasty. For a side we tried the corn soufflé cake and it was okay. We also had the HH drinks and they were fine. The service was fast and our waitress was friendly. We sat outside on the patio and it was a nice breezy day. I didn't quite see inside but it was packed for a Friday evening. There is parking nearby on street, valet or a garage. I will definitely be back to try the seafood portion of their menu which looked delicious.

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average
